When booking the appointment, no one asked whether I'd prefer a "lead stylist" or a regular one, so we were automatically booked with a regular one. Appointments were back to back at 3 and 3:30. My 7 year old went first. She has thick straight hair - I asked them to even it out and take off 2 inches. The haircut was very obviously uneven upon "completion"; it was alarming that the stylist hadn't noticed it herself. She started to fix it and made it lopsided, then had to fix it again. Both times she tried to blame my daughter for being too "fidgety" or "hunched over" when she never gave her instructions on how to sit and turn her head, etc. We finally got to an okay place 45 minutes later. I asked the lead stylist to do my younger one's haircut and she was pretty fast and efficient. She was also a bit nicer. Much better than the other one. Glad I figured this out, as my 3 year old has curly hair which is a lot more complicated to cut. Most kids hair salons will style and tie the girls hair up at the end with a bow, or something cute. Here, despite the hefty price tag, they do nothing. Needless to say I will not be coming back. Think twice before going here.

When my wife explicitly requested - multiple times - to wait for my arrival before beginning our son's cut, Shelly persistently ignored these wishes, badgering our son for styling decisions and starting the cut anyway. This complete disregard for client preferences seems to be their new standard operating procedure. The resulting haircut was nothing short of technical malpractice. The fade was uneven, the lines were messy, and the sideburns had an amateur's abrupt transition instead of a professional blend. While Sharkey's may continue to attract first-time kids' haircuts with their videos games / TV shows, they're clearly banking on parents being too distracted or inexperienced to notice their technical incompetence. What was once a convenient, quality option for families has devolved into an expensive lesson in the importance of skilled stylists. Save yourself the disappointment and find a real professional who respects both their craft and their clients. We'll be making the longer drive downtown to a proper stylist - the extra travel time is worth avoiding this kind of sloppy workmanship and customer service. For those considering Sharkey's: unless you're only interested in the video games and don't care about the actual haircut, take your business elsewhere. Your children deserve better than rushed, poorly executed cuts from a establishment that has clearly prioritized turnover over technique.
