I went in for takeout order a few weeks ago, and enjoyed a cocktail at the really nice bar. Comfortable seats - TV for news or short videos, and good service. The food eaten at home was excellent. Went with my wife to the restaurant Friday nite. We have been fans of Indian food for over 30 years. One of our favorites in the area closed recently. Now we have a new "go-to". For appetizer, we had the Malabar shrimp, spicy. Delicious along with the papadum and sauces. We ordered onion chutney ala carte - served elsewhere on the house with papadum. I love vegetable entrees and these two were excellent: vegetable madras*** and bhindi masala. *** for spicy and the bhindi/okra is now one of my favorites. My wife had her usual chicken tikka masala, very spicy. It measured up. Service was great, and staff from kitchen serves the entrees with pride. We got many dishes packed for leftovers to go. Secret is ... that is best part: yum Okra with deep tangy sauce, spicy at home. Oh yeah, all with lots of basmati rice and garlic naan. Recommended for all. Went here with my boyfriend on a Friday afternoon for their lunch buffet. I was very excited as I had been craving Indian food for a while. The ambiance left much to be desired but I was very willing to overlook that for delicious Indian food. Unfortunately, I was a little disappointed: Pros: cheap; naan is made fresh and buttery; attentive staff (the owner was quite nice and very pleasant!) Cons: NO CHICKEN TIKKA :( this was really disappointing as it is my favorite dish! Maybe they have it on other days but chicken tikka is one of those dishes Indian buffets typically have available. The food is also not at all spicy! I understand that they've adjusted their dishes to appeal to local clientele, but Indian food is typically spicy (as in "hot" spicy) and it just doesn't taste 100% when it isn't. We asked if there were any spicy sauces available, but alas, there was none. Perhaps I would have not been so turned off if I hadn't come down with a terrible 48-hour stomach ache after eating here. I'll probably try this place again when I can stomach it but I've certainly had better. Jersey City, NJ has a thriving Indian community and much better Indian cuisine! read more

Many times had food here and takeouts as well. One last time (I would like to call last time because I am not planning to go there again), I called there for a tray of biriyani and few other dishes for our friends get together in last April, and the person took the phone was had the worst attitude. He was not ready to give proper information about the pricing and he was very impatient to take my order. He talked like I called there and asked to give food for free. read more

Went here with my lovely fiancé and a mutual friend this past January. After my disappointing experience with Bombay Grill in New City, it was fantastic to find this place. I mean, this was spot-on for an indian buffet. Big thumbs up for getting great dishes across the spectrum of both meat and veggie dishes. The veggie cutlet was pretty fantastic. Food was actually properly spicy, and the table service was great. Four stars just because of a lack of the Tandoori Chicken; I'm so used to having the plate show up on the table, and even the stuff in the buffet line was pretty scarce. Definitely recommend. I came here on a whim for the cheap lunch buffet and didn't expect much from an Indian restaurant in the back corner of a suburban sprawl plaza. I came with a colleague and we both loved the mushroom dish, tandoori chicken and buffet selection...quite a few unusual dishes. My favorite Indian restaurant in the area! We live in Bergen County, but make the trip here whenever we crave Indian. My cousins lived in India for 10 years and said this is the most authentic restaurant! The garlic nan is AMAZING! Outstanding! I've been searching for a local Indian restaurant and I would drive well beyond local to eat their food. I had the meat samosas which were crunchy, juicy and completely delicious. The food at Sitar Palace is amazing. We came here for my dad's birthday celebration. Nevin, the waitstaff, and the co-owner, Anil were wonderful. Everyone was so helpful and all the food served was delicious. It is some of the best Indian food that I have had in a really long time. We discovered this charming little restaurant a few weeks ago and became instant fans. The authenticity of the cuisine is quite impressive, as well as offering creative dishes that I have not experienced in other Indian restaurants. The service is attentive without being intrusive. Allow Nithin to suggest an appropriate desert . He hasn't steered us wrong yet. If you prefer your meal to be a bit less spicey, emphasize "very mild". Even then, you may be surprised. Pros: - Fast delivery: placed an order for a meal for two and was delivered within an hour (pretty quick for Indian food). - Large menu: many choices to choose from. Most Indians restaurants around the area have a small limited amount of items on their menus. Cons: - Curry: we ordered the chicken tikka marsala which came out pretty watery and was too creamy for our tastes. We also asked for it to be spicy but could barely taste the heat. - Naan: the naan was too chewy and didn't have the garlic naan available in their online menu. Overall: - Even with the large selections of items, there are much better Indian restaurants in the area with better curry sauce. read more

Excellent I love Indian Food. It's like new tastes that have awaken my taste buds since I did not grow up eating it. So since I like it, I have tried all different places. All over the City, all over Rockland, Westchester, and Bergen Counties. The first place I ever got Indian Food was Twin's India Palace. Sitar Palace was Twin's India Palace for years. Now it is under new ownership and the name has changed. Well as much as I loved Twin's India Palace, the change is for the better. The food is great. Very authentic with excellent flavors. Plus the staff is fantastic. I order the Onion Kulcha which is Onion Nan. It is excellent. Stuffed with onions and cilantro. I also order the Chicken Tikka Masala, which comes loaded with chicken with a very rich creamy nicely spiced seasoned sauce. Chicken Biryani is also one of my favorites. Even the plain basmati rice is perfectly steamed, with long and fragrant rice pieces. Please start with an appetizer such as Vegetable or Meat Samosa. Both of the fillings are fantastic. It is perfectly fried and not too greasy. The Restaurant Staff is always great. Food comes out quickly. They also have a fully stocked bar. Lastly, their prices are fantastic. Many Indian restaurants are way too expensive. The prices here are on the mark, and the portions are huge. I wish them good luck in the future, and you have me as a repeat customer. read more

I have noticed the staff tend to be rude or are just overwhelmed with construction and parties (I have been refused service because they had a party to prepare for). I just hate going someplace I am seen as a burden. They give you generous, well-flavored portions for take-out or sit-in. The Tikki masala tends to be on the oily side but still great. read more

My family and I have been customers of this establishment since it was in Nanuet and called Twins Palace, We were friends with the original owners Mary and James. Sad to say this restaurant has gone downhill for some time now. Was there for lunch this week and couldn't believe it was the same place. Cheap paper tablecloths, no napkins on the table, a compressed eating area and a buffet squeezed into an area the size of a small apartment kitchen. No vegetables on the buffet except for cauliflower and some watery lentil soup. I can't imagine how this became what it has, compared to what it used to be. Count us out! read more

If there is another Indian restaurant in Rockland that's as good as Sitar Palace, I've never been. I recommend for take out and maybe to dine in as they are renovating the front of the restaurant right now and it will soon have windows. Went for Lunch today. The lunch buffet was good. I tried their Karela acchar which was good. Mint chutney and tamrind chutney were fresh and flavorful. Naan's are great. Tried their tandoori chicken, veg poriyal, paneer jalfrezi, rice, chicken tikka masala - all great. Gobi manchurian - could have been better but wasnt bad. Halwa - was not sweet at all. No flavor. They forgot to put sugar I guess. Although their websites states the price for weekday buffet is 7.99, seems like they have increased the rate and forgot to update the website. read more

Best Indian food, 5 minutes from where I work. If only I could sit for the buffet, I wouldn't pay as much to take out for lunch. The buffet is about $10 a person all you can eat and it comes with naan. Take out is about $5 a pound and if I don't convince them to give me complimentary naan, they will charge me for it. Order a side of rice so you're not paying per pound for a container of rice. I did that once and I think the container cost like $9 for rice! If you can wait about 40-60 mins, you can order off the menu to go, but if you don't have much time and arriving on a whim craving, picking up from the buffet is fast. Even so, still the best Indian food in south Rockland County. read more

We found this hidden GEM - had buffet and it was FANTASTIC. Every item we tried was great tasting food and we all thoroughly enjoyed. Living near Parsippany spoils me with lot of Indian food choices but this place makes its mark. Awesoms Biriyani, Great Goat curry, ok Ch Tandori, nice poriyal, very good paneer sabji. The place is quite large. When you enter the shopping center you may not immediately see it (we didn't), it's not in the main strip but off to the right all the way in the back in a smaller strip. We ordered naan with onion (good), a shrimp dish with onions that was also pretty good but I would never have thought of it as tasting like "Indian food," which may just reflect my ignorance. Husband had chicken madras (or madras chicken) was reportedly very very good, when he asked about a different chicken dish the waiter shook his head and said something about it being like Chinese food and recommended the madras - waiter was clearly more than willing to give his honest opinions which I like. They have a full bar with a few different Indian beers. We had the Godfather and it was pretty good, also recommended by the waiter. read more

Sitar is okay. I deal with it because it is the only decent Indian place around. The food isnt bad although I have had better. Sometimes I would order online and they would short me a side of basmati rice which would be really the whole reason I was ordering from them in the first place, plus it is one of the side dishes included in the tikka masala dinner entree. One time I ordered online and told them to not put raisins in my byriani as my daughter is allergic to raisins. The food arrived at my house (because yes they do deliver) and when I wen to open my food there was raisins all over the byriani, I had to throw it out and my family was quite disappointed, so that is why I give 3 star to Sitar. read more

I was a little concerned because of the Yelp ratings, but we went ahead and ordered from Sitar for catering our son's birthday party. I was very much impressed with the food and heard no complaints from any of my guests. The palak paneer was exceptional, unlike any version of it I've tasted before. The chicken tikka masala was great - usually this dish will have chicken pieces that are slightly overdone because of mass production, but not from this place and not this time. The fried okra was pretty good, my guests definitely liked it (I personally found it good but not mind-blowing). I don't know if my order would be any worse if got take out or dined in (based on other reviews), but for this occasion, I was happy with the service. The guy was 15 minutes late to deliver, but 15 minutes isn't bad at all. I'd definitely recommend this place! read more
