I was pleasantly surprised by this restaurant food. I've been wanting to try this for a while and decided to get takeout. I ordered jalapeño naan the spinach pakora, and tikka masala chicken. Everything was so incredibly flavorful the tikka masala chicken was a huge portion and it came with rice with really big pieces of chicken inside perfect for dipping the naan. Even dipped the spinach pakora in it. The nann was also great. It was hot and fresh and had a bunch of jalapeño pieces on it. You came in a bag that kept it nice and warm. The spinach pakora was also delicious and such a massive portion. Generally, everything was a huge portion. We definitely order from here again for Indian food. Not really sure how this place has such good rating. Went in on a Sunday around 1pm and some of the foods were all dried up. Maybe come in early to avoid that. All the foods I tried weren't really that great. The only edible things were the plain rice, naan and chicken tikka masala. Everything else was just whatever. I ordered food to go and everything was AMAZING! I ordered the Samosas, Garlic Naan, and Chicken Tikka. Samoas were large and filled with so much potato! They also came with two sauces: one green and one brown (not sure exactly what they were) but omg, SO TASTY. TIP: Put both sauces on the samosa and thank me later! Chicken tikka was perfect - good amount of tender chicken and so much sauce to dip the garlic naan in. This dish also came with white rice. The portion size is enough to feed two people with an appetizer! Food came quickly and was very fresh. Passing by the restaurant, it looks super clean and elegant. We returned after a long time for the weekend buffet. It wasn't that busy, got table right away. The buffet menu had all the show stopper dishes today, with biryani, korma, bhindi masala, chicken tikka masala, tandoori chicken, fish curry, chicken 65 all in the line up. Loved the chicken biryani. It tasted so good with fluffy rice, tamarind mix with such soft chicken. Bhindi (orka) masala is always my favorite. Tandoori chicken and chicken 65 were excellent too. The service was good. Our plates were taken out of the table regularly. They constantly kept an eye on all dishes to make sure they are not empty or stale. read more

Downtown Dhaba is the go to local Indian restaurant for us. We're always able to get in on weekends without a reservation but if you have a party over 4 people I suggest calling ahead. The restaurant has about twenty tables with plenty of space between each one. The employees are always friendly and always offer assistance if help is needed if your new to ordering indiain food. I've tried most of the curry's and haven't ordered one I didn't like. This time we ordered the chicken korma and lamb bhuna gosht with the must order garlic naan. As a plus it's a BYOB so bring your favorite wine to pair. read more

We had a great brunch buffet here a few years ago, but since that menu is limited we've been trying to come for dinner. Service here is fine. Definitely lax. It took a while for anyone to check on us towards the end of dinner, but they were diligent with refilling water throughout. Everyone is very nice and food comes out fast. Relatively spacious and the seats by the window have great natural lighting. We ordered the lamb korma, chicken saag, and garlic naan. I will say despite the lamb being a bit dry, it was still very tender and not chewy at all. Flavor was good, but not my favorite korma I've had. The chicken saag was so good. Very flavorful and fresh tasting with a slight kick. I also noticed yelp shows they have free WiFi, but confirmed they do not. This is one of the best Indian restaurants in Bergen county! The food is consistently delicious. My favorite is the appetizer tamarind eggplant. It is vegetarian with eggplant and chickpeas. It has a little bit of spicy and is so creamy. For entree I normally get the tikka with shrimp or lamb. I always ask for it spicy because I like the heat! Their naan is a must! Went here last night after a long discussion about where to go last minute with no reservation. My husband and I have been here countless times and this time deserves a review. We were sat immediately, and given their yummy papadam and sauce trio which was great because we were so hungry. They added some new things to the menu since we were there last which caught my husband's eye. He got the Lamb Pepper Fry and I got my go-to Chicken Korma, we also got an order of garlic naan. Our food came and it was one of the best experiences we've had there. My korma was creamy and delicious with the perfect amount of spice and my husband's lamb was 'dynamite'. The naan was a nice addition to the meal as well, some of the pieces were a little more burnt but still good. When we were done packing our leftovers we let the waiter know we had a gift card but it wouldn't cover the whole bill and to put the rest of the balance of a credit card. He returned rather quickly and informed us that they just updated their system, were having issues and could only use $30 from the gift card; which had a $50 balance on it. My husband very nicely explained that we got this same response the last time we ate here (over a month ago) and tried to use the same gift card. The waiter apologized and attempted to run it again, miraculously it worked. We left with a little bit of a bitter taste in our mouths because of the gift card situation which is why I am giving it 4 stars and not 5. Enjoyed a night out with the family this week and DD did another fabulous job. They are very accommodating and sensitive to their customers. We brought a BD cake with us which they supported whole heartedly. My new fav is the Mango Chicken (Aamwala), and the fried cauliflower (Gobi) appetizer is so good I almost changed my main to another one of these, a must try! Again, the Tamarind Eggplant app is outstanding and another must-try imo. Wife gets the Lamb Korma every time, a creamy cashew curry sauce that she tried to mimic at home, but to no avail. Lol. Everyone was extremely pleased in all regards, including the thought that they have a bit of leftover for the day after, you just don't want it to end! We ordered many things: fried okra, naan baskets, fried cauliflower (benhdi) I think it's called. We ordered a lot of chicken tikka masala of course, lamb vindaloo, Chana masala, and the lamb beriani and a lot of mango lassi. Everything was delicious. My only critique was that the three tandoori app was a bit dry and heavily spiced. But still tasted good, just needed some sauce on the side and maybe a few roasted veggies to make it less dry. Overall, whole family was pleased. My usual Indian restaurant was temporarily closed, so I tried Downtown Dhaba for the first time, ordering takeout. Bhuna Gosht lamb was tender and flavorful with spices as advertised. Chana masala was also very tasty and loaded with nice strips of fresh ginger. The chicken Tikka masala was a bit on the sweet side, but still good. My kids said it was great and that's the dish they eat from all Indian restaurants. I asked for these dishes to be prepared, spicy, medium and mild, respectively and the chef was spot on for each. Naan bread was standard and went well with them meal. I live almost 20 minutes away and by the time I arrived home, all the food was still quite hot as if it just came out of the kitchen. Portions were generous as well. We came here on a Sunday night for dinner. Visiting NJ for a few days - were the only ones in the restaurant (not sure if this is COVID-related) but is a popular take-out place for sure. The food was a bit meh (esp since NJ claims to have the best Indian food in the country). The bhindi had a "sweetish" taste to it and the rice was not fine grained basmati but more South Indian style clunky (would have gone better with sambar but there was no S. Indian on the menu). I've tried. We've eaten in at downtown Dhaba a bunch of times. Always great food and the service is very good. But expensive. Twice we've ordered delivery through grub hub and each time they have delivered a very different assortment of what we ordered. The first time our various chicken and shrimp dishes we swapped for various chick pea and other vegetarian options. Not that there's anything wrong with that. Except. It's not what we ordered, paid for and expected. More recently, we ordered a variety of Indian dishes. Mostly shrimp and chicken entrees and an order of jalapeño naan. We received all chicken entrees with different sauces than we ordered and no naan. My voicemail and email contacts when unanswered and my long 'contact us' on their website was ignored. The good news is we are dinners that were pretty good. Again. Just not what we expected. I've now crossed downtown Dhaba off my list of 'acceptable'. It's a shame. But in the end, $120 for dinner for two, I'd like it to be a much more special meal. read more

I bookmarked Downtown Dhaba a while ago and kept finding reasons to go somewhere else first, basically sleeping on Indian food. After finally trying it this evening, I truly regret waiting. It is an excellent restaurant. Modern, clean, and well lit. The staff is friendly and proud of their food, they are willing to work through recommendations and questions with patience. We selected two appetizers and two entrees to share in order to experience multiple dishes. The samosas were perfect pockets of flavor and a nice way to start the meal. The fried eggplant appetizer is mind boggling good, wonderfully crisp eggplant mixed with chickpea, a crunchy item, and two sauces, a real flavor bomb in a great way. We had the chicken tikka masala on their recommendation, I had considered trying something a bit more adventurous but decided to start with a classic. Glad we did because it's better than any tikka masala I've had. Also selected the Bhuna Gosht lamb dish, amazing texture and flavor a great lamb dish. We worked on the excess sauce with the garlic/onion naan, a fantastic bread item to accompany the dish. The portions were filling and came with tasty rice but we still found room for dessert. The pillows of cottage cheese in milky sweetness were remarkable but the roasted carrot pudding was a game changer. The roasting emphasized the sweetness and the butter richness added a nice element. Definitely planning a return. This is the type of restaurant that you realize part of the way through your meal, that you've only tried a small percentage of the great options. read more
