Chicken Tikka Masala & Garlic Naan
    Theresa M.

I ordered food to go and everything was AMAZING! I ordered the Samosas, Garlic Naan, and Chicken Tikka. Samoas were large and filled with so much potato! They also came with two sauces: one green and one brown (not sure exactly what they were) but omg, SO TASTY. TIP: Put both sauces on the samosa and thank me later! Chicken tikka was perfect - good amount of tender chicken and so much sauce to dip the garlic naan in. This dish also came with white rice. The portion size is enough to feed two people with an appetizer! Food came quickly and was very fresh. Passing by the restaurant, it looks super clean and elegant. Will be ordering again and definitely will need to have the dine-in experience.

We returned after a long time for the weekend buffet. It wasn't that busy, got table right away. The buffet menu had all the show stopper dishes today, with biryani, korma, bhindi masala, chicken tikka masala, tandoori chicken, fish curry, chicken 65 all in the line up. Loved the chicken biryani. It tasted so good with fluffy rice, tamarind mix with such soft chicken. Bhindi (orka) masala is always my favorite. Tandoori chicken and chicken 65 were excellent too. The service was good. Our plates were taken out of the table regularly. They constantly kept an eye on all dishes to make sure they are not empty or stale.

Downtown Dhaba is the go to local Indian restaurant for us. We're always able to get in on weekends without a reservation but if you have a party over 4 people I suggest calling ahead. The restaurant has about twenty tables with plenty of space between each one. The employees are always friendly and always offer assistance if help is needed if your new to ordering indiain food. I've tried most of the curry's and haven't ordered one I didn't like. This time we ordered the chicken korma and lamb bhuna gosht with the must order garlic naan. As a plus it's a BYOB so bring your favorite wine to pair.

I came here today with the buddy who lives a few towns away and we were craving Indian food so we decided to come here because he has been here. Very clean atmosphere inside and friendly service. I got the chicken tikka masala with a side of garlic naan (and white rice) and it was a great portion. The chicken was very tender and delicious.

Weekend lunch is usually buffet style. Love the food options, chicken, fish, goat etc. They also have salad and dessert. It's not a big buffet options but it's good for me. Staff is very nice and quick service. Very nice set up inside. Many tables and spacious.

This is one of the best Indian restaurants in Bergen county! The food is consistently delicious. My favorite is the appetizer tamarind eggplant. It is vegetarian with eggplant and chickpeas. It has a little bit of spicy and is so creamy. For entree I normally get the tikka with shrimp or lamb. I always ask for it spicy because I like the heat! Their naan is a must! I love to dip it in the sauce. Portion sizes are large and I always have left overs. Service is good, they don't rush you. BYOB which is a plus!

Went here last night after a long discussion about where to go last minute with no reservation. My husband and I have been here countless times and this time deserves a review. We were sat immediately, and given their yummy papadam and sauce trio which was great because we were so hungry. They added some new things to the menu since we were there last which caught my husband's eye. He got the Lamb Pepper Fry and I got my go-to Chicken Korma, we also got an order of garlic naan. Our food came and it was one of the best experiences we've had there. My korma was creamy and delicious with the perfect amount of spice and my husband's lamb was 'dynamite'. The naan was a nice addition to the meal as well, some of the pieces were a little more burnt but still good. When we were done packing our leftovers we let the waiter know we had a gift card but it wouldn't cover the whole bill and to put the rest of the balance of a credit card. He returned rather quickly and informed us that they just updated their system, were having issues and could only use $30 from the gift card; which had a $50 balance on it. My husband very nicely explained that we got this same response the last time we ate here (over a month ago) and tried to use the same gift card. The waiter apologized and attempted to run it again, miraculously it worked. We left with a little bit of a bitter taste in our mouths because of the gift card situation which is why I am giving it 4 stars and not 5. Otherwise, it would definitely a 5-star, but we will definitely be coming back, not using a gift card though :) Great food and byo!!

Ordered takeout and service was so fast. The butter chicken I would've preferred larger chunks of chicken as there was so much sauce. Overall very good food.

Chicken Vindaloo is just like it looks, flavorful but wicked hot!

Warning: new ownership or chef. The food is very different from what we've enjoyed for years. Sadly, we don't plan to return.

Ask the Community - Downtown Dhaba

How much is their lunch buffet and is it everyday or only weekdays?

    Only weekends, $17+tax per adult

Are there gluten free and dairy free options?

    There are both.

    When is the buffet offered?

    Starts at noon every day.

Do you offer weekend buffet in your new location? If so, what is the cost and hours on Sunday?

Yes we do offer weekend grand lunch buffet. It’s $13.99 on Sundays from noon to 2:30 pm.

Where are you? I can't find your new address in Westwood. Looking to return - love your food. There doesn't seem to be any building at 266 Center Ave. What are you next to?

Hello!! We will open in 10 days from now. We will be located right opposite Starbucks.( we are taking over the right side of “kitchen” restaurant) Please Like our Facebook…

Is the lunch buffet dine in or take away?

I've done dine in twice, they have asked me if I want to take leftovers with me. I guess you could do take away but I don't think you would be able to take doubles, like you can when you done in.

    Is this place BYOB?

    Yes!

The weekend buffet, is the price the same for children, as well?

It will be half price for children under 12 years!

Is a buffet dinner offered during the week and if so, how much?

I believe the buffet is lunchtime but you should call!

Is there price really a lot of money or not?

It may be a dollar more per dish than some other Indian places, but you get what you pay for. IMO, Dhaba is noticeably higher quality food.

Is this place BYOB since there is no bar?

    It is byob!

Does anyone know when they have their lunch buffet?

Starts at noon every day. $11.99 during the week and $13.99 on the weekend. Food was excellent

Does this place serve halal food?

    Yes!

Most of the dishes had some sort of spice, very limited non spicy options. They pre make the base sauce so the spice level is not adjustable. We ordered a lot of the dishes from the menu starting with corn chaat and samosa. Corn chaat didn't really have corn, it was more like corn flakes with tomatoes and onions. The dish was blend, it needed some dressing sauce or yogurt on top to make it tastier. Samosa had good potato fillings, came with green and tamarind chutneys. For entree we got the chicken tikka masala, chicken korma with rice, naan and garlic naan with Amul cheese. Tikka masala was super delicious, thick spicy sauce. I was so glad to see chicken was moist not dry. Korma was a good too. The rice was cooked with jeera, had wonderful aroma. Both naan were excellent, loved the Amul one especially, it was so cheesy. We had the brownie ice cream for dessert, was a yummy one too. The mango lassi was also good, was on the thicker side. All our dishes came out so quickly, almost seemed like they had everything ready to go in the kitchen. It's semi self-served, plastic forks, spoon, knives and plates are next to the register. They serve the dishes in to go boxes, so very easy to pack any leftovers, just need the lids. Overall we loved the food and the atmosphere. Glad to see a good Indian restaurant establishing itself in the area.

The menu marked all the spicy level for each item, which was very helpful for me (I don't eat spicy food). I tried chicken korma with naan. It's creamy and flavorful. Naan was buttery and fluffy. Samosa was good, came in 2 pieces; little spicy for me. Mango lassi with strong mango flavor and good yogurt base. The only thing I didn't like was corn chaat. It's corn flakes (?) with chopped onions, tomatoes and chutneys sauce. The corn flakes really threw me off. Tables and seats inside for dine in. Spacious with history of the restaurant on the wall. Bathroom is clean. Overall a solid place for quick Indian food. Nice and attentive staff. Great customer service and interactions.

1 star -- Extremely disappointing and not worth the money…read more This place has completely gone downhill. The portion sizes have become a joke--tiny quantities for premium prices. You leave feeling like you barely got anything for what you paid. A restaurant that once seemed worth the price has now turned into a place where you pay more and get less. The quality has dropped significantly as well. The most disappointing part is that they are now serving store-bought items and passing them off as freshly made. We ordered kulcha, and it was obvious that it was not made in-house. This was not just one bad experience--it's the third time we've faced the same issues. We gave them multiple chances, hoping it was a one-time problem, but clearly this is the new standard. Overpriced, disappointing portions, declining quality, and no authenticity. Save your money and go somewhere that actually values its customers. We will never be returning.
