Best Indian culinary experience for my family in a long while. Since I cook Indian food at home, I am quite picky about Indian restaurants, and Mumbai Dreams blew our mind. What impressed us first was their friendly, efficient and thoughtful service. I believe the man who took our orders was the manager. When he learned that I was a dairy-intolerant vegetarian, he informed me that the two veggie dishes I ordered - Bhindi Masala and Smoked Baingan Bharta - both came with heavy cream but they could switch to coconut milk for an extra $2. Then he went down the list of our order to say that some other items also contained a bit of dairy. I figured that I could survive that much anyway. Although the restaurant sign says "creative Indian cuisine", we stayed mostly with the traditional and our favorites. Our order came very quickly. Arriving in a cute mini tricycle, the samosas were surprisingly plump and substantial. Two of those could easily make a meal for me. The Kure Kure Mushrooms were deep fried and coated with creamy seasonings, bus still retained the chewy bite and aroma of oyster mushrooms. The serving was so large, the spices so abundant that both husband and son said they'd resume this dish after our rice arrived. The meat-eaters were extremely happy with the Malvani lamb, while I was just as impressed with the two vegan dishes. Everything was cooked from scratch, retaining the fresh flavor and texture of the ingredients. There must have been a whole pound or more okra packed in the Bhindi masala, which was dryer yet tastier than what I'd experienced elsewhere, a truly honest value. Baingan Bharta is one of my comfort foods, and their version surely met my expectations :-) We loved their creative Rosemary naan, what a delicious fusion of east and west! I just returned home from a three-hour meal at Mumbai Dreams this evening. Going into the night I had high hopes for a great experience. We had a reservation for a party of six at 7:00 pm and were promptly seated and given water when we arrived. Unfortunately, that's where things started to fall apart. We didn't see another staff member for about 45 minutes. Eventually, I believe the manager came over and took our drink, appetizer, and entrée orders all at the same time. Our drinks arrived about 20 minutes later, and the appetizers started coming out intermittently after that. Our entrées didn't start arriving until around 9:00 pm, again coming out one at a time. Some people in our group were nearly finished eating by the time others received their food. We had also ordered naan for the table, but it was the very last thing brought out, at a point when some people had already finished eating and no longer wanted it. Throughout the evening, a young woman did keep our water glasses filled, but aside from taking our order, no one came to check on our table -- no one asked how things were going, whether we needed another drink, or acknowledged the long wait. The final frustration came when we received the bill and saw that a 20% gratuity had been automatically added. Considering the level of service -- at one point we were stacking empty cups on the windowsill just to make room for our food -- this felt pretty disappointing. The food itself was decent, but based on this experience I wouldn't return. One suggestion for management: if in-house service is running extremely slow, it may be worth pausing take-out orders so you can properly serve the customers already dining in the restaurant. read more

I had such an incredible experience at Mumbai Dreams in Nyack. You can genuinely feel the love and passion behind every dish here. It's a family-run restaurant that draws from deep North Indian and Maharashtrian roots, and the flavors are just next level. The chef grinds spices fresh and sources ingredients directly from farmers in India and you can taste that kind of care in every bite. This isn't just a night out, it's a full-on homestyle experience that feels both comforting and special. Some standouts: the butter chicken mac & cheese was such a fun, rich fusion dish; the pani puri was fresh and full of texture and flavor; and the Kolhapuri machli a seabass dish with a bold Maharashtrian spice blend completely wowed me. The Akbari kebab and lamb korma were both beautifully balanced and flavorful, and the kurkure mushrooms with truffle honey might be one of the best veggie starters I've ever had. Caught up with my cousin here as a halfway point and had an amazing meal. We both love trying new foods so don't judge that we ordered this for just 2 people (and yes there were plenty of leftovers to pack). Drinks: Mango Masti- def on the omg too sweet side but the mango was prominent. Would love to see this turned into a lighter martini style drink where the flavors pop with a lot less of the sugar. Apps: Kurkure Mushrooms- these were crispy, tossed in a garlic sauce and devoured. Chatpaty Elote - what a concoction! Love they took individual kernels, got them crispy with a chew and tossed them in a fusion of flavors. This was a special Father's Day weekend menu item but I hope it finds a permanent home. Mulligatawny Soup - Cuz ate this before I could sample (to be fair he offered but I was chomping on mushrooms). He cleaned the bowl so it must have been good! The texture of the milk had a weird slimy texture (almost a cheese pull) and the actual cottage cheese ball had an after taste. I don't know if it went bad but I'd never get that again. My friends and I walked into Mumbai Dreams around 1pm on a Friday. There was one party in there aside from us, and it did not pick up for the hour that we were there. The interior is going for a more elevated ambiance, and the pricing follows that as well. We ordered chicken tikka masala ($23), chana masala ($19), chana masala basmati bowl ($14), as well as a mango and blueberry lassi ($6/each) and a prosecco ($13). For lunch, I was not expecting entree prices to be more expensive than comparable NYC entrees. Both my friend and I who ordered the chana masala ordered it mild, but there was a substantial kick. I had to order the lassi because my mouth was burning. Be warned if you cannot handle spice in regards to heat! Overall, everyone thought the food was tasty, but nothing outstanding. Service was split. There was one person who explained the specials, who was friendly and accommodating. However, our main server was curt and seemed annoyed at our presence. My friend who has been here before mentioned having a similar experience with this person. One personal issue I had was that he told me I couldn't order the basmati bowl without rice because of the way it was constructed. When my friend's bowl came out, I did not understand why the barrier was, since they could just have skipped the rice while plating? Five stars! I would give more if possible. We came to celebrate my father's birthday and so glad we made an earlier reservation. They get packed and extremely busy. Service here was absolutely outstanding. Our server went above and beyond. Giving recommendations, checking on us periodically, bringing extra naan and dipping sauces throughout the meal. It is very dim light but it provides the perfect ambiance inside. Your eyes do adjust rather quickly. This officially is my new favorite spot. My lamb biryani had the perfect amount of punch to it, I went with medium and it was just spicy enough that it was still flavorful. My boyfriend who hates Indian food could not stop eating and trying everything! He ordered the lamb kebab which was delicious. My mother ordered a lamb shank and sea bass for the table. The lamb shank we were all fighting over because it was so tender and fresh. My brother ordered the tandoori chicken which was spicy but perfect. We ordered a few special appetizers for the table, there was a bbq chicken wing that was out of this world I sadly forgot to get a picture. The Kohan calamari(hoping I spelt that right) was the perfect amount of crunch to spice. Drinks here are also outstanding. I ordered the Mumbai dream, the colors were beautiful and it was sweet and really did hit the vodka well. It crept up later lol! My father was dying over his old fashioned coming out Smokey, as he had never seen that and absolutely loved it. The naan here was amazing freshly made and so fluffy! My sister was raving about Mumbai Dreams, and we were in the neighborhood so we went. We got there when they reopened for dinner on a Saturday. We ordered drinks, apps, and dinner. The Samosas were excellent, the chicken tikka masala fondue was terrific, and the butter chicken was good. I am pretty picky about chicken, and they cooked it to perfection. The food is seasoned well, and even the mild was spicy, but excellent regardless. The servers were attentive and friendly. It is a beautiful, clean restaurant. Overall Thoughts: This is an Indian fusion restaurant with some creative dishes. The interior is large, intimate, and dimly-lit (too dimly lit, in my opinion-- I had a hard time reading the menu). I thought the food was pretty good, but it fell a bit short of my expectations and was more mild in flavor than traditional Indian restaurants. It was also a bit pricey for the portion sizes. Our server recommend ordering 2 dishes per person, but you can get away with ordering 1-1.5 per person if you're not extremely hungry. The service was friendly and attentive. Overall, there are still some dishes like the Fried Chicken Tikka Masala (on their lunch menu), that I'd be interested in coming back to try. Food I tried: - Gobi Manchurian (3.9/5): This fried cauliflower appetizer was good, but the flavors were mild. I wished it were crispier and more flavorful. - Butter Chicken Mac & Cheese (3.8/5): This was pretty good, but fell short of my expectations, as it tasted pretty much just like standard mac and cheese with chicken. The butter chicken flavors and Indian spices / flair in this dish were not apparent. - Navratna Korma (4.3/5): This dish was good and flavorful with a distinct cashew / nutty taste, which was nice and umami. - Garlic Naan (4.5/5): The garlic naan was very good, flavorful, warm, and simultaneously crispy and pillowy. - Kheer (Indian Rice Pudding) (3.9/5): We got this for free for checking in on Yelp. To be fair, we tried out Mumbai when our usual Indian spot was closed for the day. We're long lovers of Southern Indian cuisine so we're a picky bunch. We travel to India so that also influences us. The menu was much more interesting than most and I was excited to try something completely different. 2 adults 2 "kids" age 21. I had heard a lot of good things about it so 4 of us headed over. Clever decor I had a Tikka taco (appetizer) for dinner (funky and delicious) , both kids had tikka masala and the spouse had saag. (3 mains and an appetizer) Kids enjoyed Tikka, only wished it was creamier. Honestly, I think it was a regional issue, and they stuffed themselves so they apparently did like it. We started off with samosas and mango lassi. Delicious. Well presented. Onto dinner, also delicious, with Nan. I had a martini, Meh. Too sweet, flavors didn't make sense. Ended up ordering a Diet Coke. Staff was attentive, but (former waitress here) I think they all share tables rather than are assigned a table. So we had a lot of "all good" when we were ready to order, we'd say we were ready and the waitstaff would politely walk away. Another waitstaff would approach or the same one, and take our order. Minor detail. The meal was relatively expressive, imho. $180 plus $30 tip. At the end of the meal we were really pushed by staff to leave a review right then and there. Not a fan of, too much pressure as the staff stands over me. I simply put the review clip board down and smiled each time they asked if I had given them a good review. Tried some of their "East meets West" menu. The fried butter chicken sandwich with purple cabbage slaw, hot and sweet aioli, pickles, and Gouda cheese. It is HUGE. I couldn't finish it or my masala fries. I also got the very popular chicken tikka Mac n cheese, which was creamy, spicy, and pretty darn good. I could barely handle a couple bites after my sandwich, so that's for tomorrow. They have a naan pizza that's getting good reviews, so I'll try that next (though that is only served during lunch). My mom and I came here and she loved everything. The mushroom appetizer was delicious, it was fried in this crispy batter and hot honey sauce was on it. So crispy and spicy and delicious. It was a new item. We got the butter chicken, lamb biriyani and garlic naan. You can really taste the layers of flavor behind each item. Seriously. I loved that each dish had a customizable spice level. Everything is creamy and spicy and sweet and delicious. 10/10. The servers were attentive as well. I can see this being a good spot for a date. After months of waiting I finally got here for a meal with a friend and it did not disappoint. Started off with a very refreshing tequila and lemongrass cocktail followed by Pani Puri and Samosa Chaat for apps then my friend got the Bahgani Bahar and I got the Mix Platter which had some of that chicken and shrimp plus another kind but unfortunately did not have the paneer which I was looking forward to but didn't notice until the next day when I went to have the leftovers. Do I dream of going to Mumbai? Probably not so much. I prefer New Delhi, Goa, Chennai, and Agra.... Do I love Mumbai Dreams? I do. We had an excellent experience. Every dish was tasty, and spiced to request, including my "spicy like if I lived in Delhi and asked for it spicy" spicy. I had the mulligatawny to start (not spicy). Then I kicked it up a notch with Lamb shank vindaloo. Other choices we had included Roti, a Puri appetizer (very creative and tasty), Daal makhani, and Raita. They also had a small, nice selection of whiskeys. I tried and enjoyed the Bhakta with an Armagnac cask finish. Service was incredibly attentive and accurate. Great appetizers and main dishes. The Gobi Manchurian and chicken 65 were excellent. the tandoori chicken was excellent and not dry or tough. The chicken biryani, chicken Tikka masala, Mumbai dreams chicken masala and the lamb were great. The pakora and cheese naan were good, but not on the same level as everything else. I had a really great time at Mumbai dreams recently! They are located in a small plaza with parking spots available. The restaurant is quite large with two different rooms for seating. The decor was really nice and the staff were friendly. The menu is quite extensive and they offered us 3 different food menus and 1 drink menu. Honestly it was a bit confusing because it was a specials, lunch, and normal menu and a ton of things repeated while some things you could only find on specific menus. For example chicken tikka samosa is on the regular menu, butter chicken Mac n cheese samosa is on the special menu, but there are no samosa options on the lunch menu. We ordered the lamb nihari tacos, chicken tikka masala samosa, fried chicken tikka masala sandwich with masala fries, the butter chicken Mac n cheese, and a mango lassi. We also got kheer as a free desert with a yelp check in! The tacos came with mozzarella cheese which I can't eat so we had to ask for it off. I would have been nice to be able to sub the cheese for another, but I guess it wasn't an option. The meat was good, very tender and flavorful. The chicken tikka samosa was beautiful in presentation but it was really dry. I'd love for it to have more sauce or some kind of dipping sauce with it. The chicken tikka sandwich and fries were fantastic. My biggest issue with this is that it comes on a brioche bun (fine for me but not for my bf bc of an egg allergy). I asked if we could sub the bun for a non-egg bun but this also wasn't an option. It's fine, just disappointing. The butter chicken Mac n cheese was also fantastic. The mango lassi was good and the Kheer was fine. It was good, it's just not my particular favorite but I really appreciated that we got to try it. We also weren't able to try the nan because they have eggs in them. This was a first we've had this issue with nan so I was surprised and disappointed on this as well. This was a very cute spot. Love the decor and the Indian feel when you walk in! I definitely saw this place on instagram and wanted to check it out. I have to say the service was also great! The staff were attentive and were very kind. Now on to the food. As an Indian, the flavors were there but not exactly catered to Indians. The desi tacos had amazing flavored goat meat on it and it was a good texture. The samosas were ok. They were the way too heavy and I wish the chicken tikka flavor was more pronounced. It was just a subtle taste which is forgettable. The chicken lollipops were good too. Slightly sweet but I could have done with a little more spice. First time visiting this restaurant, looks basic on the outside but the interior is beautiful. The food was delicious. The butter chicken lollipops had great flavor but was not tender enough. The lamb chops were moist, tender, fatty & flavorful, everything you could ask for in a lamb chop. The Kheer was great. Gulab Jamun was good except I didn't like the ice cream it was paired with. It tasted like lactaid ice cream. I wasn't a fan of the butter chicken Mac & cheese, something was off about the taste. It was very creamy & the macaroni was cooked well.
