I have eaten at the lunch buffet 3 times and been there once for dinner. Three out of the four times, the food was wonderful. The last time we visited during the lunch buffet, there was something wrong with the chicken they had used in the chicken dishes. It was awful! I ended up picking all my chicken out and just eating rice with the sauce. I will definitely visit again and I am thrilled to finally have a local Indian restaurant. read more

Coming from England, where there's an Indian Restaurant in most towns of any size and a takeout place in most villages, I've eaten in literally dozens of such restaurants and experienced the styles and produce of a similar number of Indian chefs. I would rate Sitara as very good. Not spectacular, but good. The restaurant itself is pretty basic but they've done a reasonable job on the decor and it's absolutely spotless. No worries about cleanliness. My wife and I went yesterday (Saturday night) and the temperature was just right; the music not too loud. The lighting was good, not too bright or dark. Cosy in the booth we chose. In other words the atmosphere was really very good, very comfortable and relaxing. The staff were friendly and welcoming. They were also very attentive. The restaurant was virtually empty though as we were somewhat early, it being about 6 in the evening when we arrived. I don't know what service is like when they are busy. However, staff checked if we had everything we needed regularly and offered us refills of drinks. Service was very quick and friendly. When it came to the food itself the appetizers were a little disappointing. The start of every meal is a serving of Poppadoms (like a big chip) with two dipping sauces. The dips were very good but the poppadoms so unusually thin that they were almost translucent. Every other place I have been serves poppadoms that gave a satisfying crunch when deliberately broken. These were so wafer thin they snapped even on gentle dipping. But the taste was excellent. The appetizers we chose were a serving each of Pakora and Vegetable Samosas. These were well cooked but each had the same two dips as the poppadoms. We ended up with three pots of each. A greater variety would have been nice. The Pakora and Samosas were good but nothing special. Take a look at Google images of how Pakora are served in 99% of places. They are thick, with a good filling. These were very tasty but skimped on the filling. The same was true of the Samosas. They were good, well cooked and well presented but quite bland and lacked texture. As someone else said, the food is well cooked but lacks the heat. When it comes to main dishes you can choose from mild, medium or hot but there was no choice with our appetizers and they didn't have the heat one would expect from Indian food. The main component of the Samosa seemed to be fine ground lentil or chickpea with only one or two identifiable vegetables. Again something totally at odds with every other experience I have had of Indian food. Having given what might appear to be a rather tepid review so far, I have to say that the main course was amazingly good. We had the vegetable Korma and it was heaven on a plate. The rice it came with was cooked to perfection also. Served in traditional balti bowls, the portion size of the Korma was excellent. I'm a big guy with a healthy appetite and there was enough to satisfy without being overwhelming. The number of options is limited and there are a few concerns about the quality of the food but, overall, Sitara is a good alternative to the usual food outlets in Muncie. What dishes are available are very well cooked and presented. They do need spicing up where no range of heat is currently available, if they are to be authentic. But the price was reasonable, the staff good and friendly, the food averaged good and the atmosphere great. So, it was a good meal. read more

The service was mediocre, and the prices were rather high for the quantity of food & level of service we received. Service was the worst I've had in some time. The server was extremely condescending to my girlfriend whom was having here first experience with Indian cuisine. Our entree's came out about 5 minutes apart. She ordered butter naan and received garlic. For the quality of food the prices are very inflated. I had been hearing rumors that we were going to finally be getting an Indian restaurant here in Muncie and was very excited. Unfortunately the experience left me highly disappointed. I am SUCH fan of this place. The clearly a family owned place where the owners interact with customers often. The wait staff were trained well and answered all our questions about the menu and level of hotness. Delicious food. What a find in the middle of Muncie! This is a new restaurant with modern Indian decor. Very classy atmosphere but wearing a hoodie and jeans I felt comfortable and was not treated any differently - the staff and owners seem friendly. The restaurant is in the same plaza as the Marsh on the north side of McGalliard, near Wheeling. It is next door to a Verizon store. Lots of parking. Food again was great, although if you're not used to Indian food, it helps to either read the menu carefully or ask questions. There were multiple lamb, chicken, and vegetarian options. I hope they do well. That being said, the only thing I didn't like was the price. For one dinner dish, no drink, no appetizers or extras, I paid $17 after tax and tip. That is almost triple what I would have paid for the same meal in West Lafayette at Shaukin on River Road. I don't see how Ball State students would be able to afford to eat here often. Maybe lunch prices are different. The $17 did provide me with enough food to take 1/2 of the meal home for the next day. read more

I have been here 3 times now. Once for dinner and twice for the lunch buffet. Dinner was excellent-you are able to order your food at the heat level you prefer. I love hot spicy food. The lunch buffet was better the first time, as I remember. Yesterday I took my daughter there for lunch for her birthday, and was disappointed in the buffet. The choices were limited and the food was bland. The palak paneer I had the first visit was absent from the lineup yesterday. There were 2 dishes listed as "spicy" One of them was noodles with vegetables, which as far as I know is not eaten anywhere in India. It was noodles with a little bit of onion in them and some dry chili pepper flakes. The other was a vindaloo that was watery and not well spiced. I expected more. I will not be going there for the lunch buffet again. I cook Indian food at home, and it is WAY BETTER than the lunch buffet fare. read more

This place is just too good!! Me being Indian, love this place for the food it serves. my opinion - This is the best Indian restuarant in Muncie and also around Indy. I am not a big fan of their Buffet ( I have been there once but was not quite happy) but À la carte is good. Everyone must try their food sometime. I promise you won't be disappointed. I am only posting this as a former employee as a public service announcement. The servers DO NOT MAKE TIPS! They make hourly money and the owners keep any and ALL tips that are left. They also punish the staff for talking to tables or even taking orders sometimes. The "owner" demands to take the orders and I have personally been yelled at for recommending dishes to tables. AGAIN SERVERS DO NOT MAKE TIPS WE ONLY MAKE HOURLY MINIMUM WAGES. $7.25 an hour and we only get paid on the 1st and 15th of the month. read more

Sitara is easily my favorite restaurant in Muncie! I visit at least once every other week because the food is so rich and flavorful. There are tons of options for vegetarians and vegans, which is to be expected from an Indian Restaurant. Their lunch buffet has quite a few options and is less than $10. Service is great too, my cup of water never seems to empty. The couple who owns the restaurant is very kind! I suggest trying this place, it's all around a good experience. My favorites are the Aloo Gobi, Vegetable Samosas, Onion Naan, Chicken Tikka Masala, and Rice Kheer for dessert. read more

We went to Sitara's late on a Friday night. We were surprised that we had to wait for a table at almost 9:00 (the place was still packed), but it wasn't a big deal. Yes, the service was a little bit on the slow side, but this is a small, family-run restaurant that opened just recently. I don't know, to me it's worth it because that equals more charm and great food. The food was really great. I don't remember the names of the dishes, but I had chicken in a creamy tomato sauce and my boyfriend had a spicy lamb dish. The waiter asked how spicy he would like it, and it came out just spicy enough for him. We also shared a really good appetizer with samosas, chick peas, and some kind of sauce. I've never had anything like that before, and it was delicious. We also ordered a really great naan on the side that was perfect for soaking up all of the sauce from our dishes. We are definitely planning on going back. This is a great little restaurant with a nice, elegant atmosphere, and really good food. No, it's not perfect and the service might be a bit slower than what you are used to at the big chain restaurants. However, I wouldn't let that deter you if you are thinking of going because it is definitely worth the wait. :-) read more

I have been to this little jewel of an Indian Restaurant 5 times now. Every time I've been there I've enjoyed the food immensely. The paneer pakora is well spiced and breaded. It goes wonderfully with their homemade tamarind chutney. The chicken tikka is well spiced and juicy. I love the flavor their traditional tandoor gives the meats. The vegetable samosa was also quite tasty, but a bit on the spicy side. This is a great place to go for Indian food if you live in the area. read more

This place is an absolute gem for Muncie! I live in Oregon, but am originally from Indiana and since this place opened I make it a point to go there every time I go home. It really doesn't get better than this place. I eat a vegan diet so can't comment on meat dishes, but at this point I've had just about every vegan option and they have all been so rich in flavor and soooo yummy! I went to Sitara for the lunch buffet during the week and arrived around 11:30 to find the food hot, the buffet stocked with about 4 meat dishes, 3 vegetarian dishes as well as soup, naan and pakora. The service delivered by a kind, attentive staff. I likely avoided the crowd by arriving soon after the buffet opened. None of the food on the buffet was extremely spicy, as would be expected, but I'm looking forward to returning to order dinner off the menu and getting my kick of spicy in the p.m.! I've been to Sitara twice now, once for lunch, and once for dinner. This place has a real ambiance to it, which is somewhat of a rarity in Muncie dining institutions. A great date restaurant. As a vegan, I really appreciate the many clearly-marked vegan options listed on their dinner menu (and their respectful interaction with me during the busy lunch hour to identify vegan options on the buffet). The food includes a diverse array of Indian options and is well prepared and delicious. Yes, they are typically pretty busy, but I see this as a good thing! This was my first-ever taste of Indian food, although I've read a lot about the cuisine. Therefore, I asked several questions, both of the booker and the owner, who were quite cordial, hospitable and eager to share information. The booker said they served mainly northern Indian food, with a few dishes from the south, so I knew the dishes would be mildly spicy with a few exceptions. I was surprised that it was served buffet style. We didn't make a reservation for lunch, and the place was packed, but we waited only about 10 minutes before getting a comfortable booth. The restaurant is decorated in mainly light peach and light yellow, with dark wood accents, arched doorways and photos of Indian scenes. I would say that it's well done and fairly casual. There's a nice family atmosphere, and some tables seat maybe 12 people. There also are smaller tables for four. Our server was prompt and cheerful. Lunch for each of us came to around $11.00. Try the chai tea. The food was mildly spicy, but nothing extreme. There was plenty of everything. A lentil sauce over basmati rice was my favorite, although a bean dish, as well as the very tender chicken with vegetables was good too. A mint/cilantro sauce was delicious. A green vegetable in a sauce was flavorful, but I don't know what it was. All the food labels on the buffet were handwritten and didn't help me much, except for the dishes I'd read about. It would be good to have English translations. The buffet could have had more food choices, and I was disappointed that there were no Indian breads or desserts. I look forward to returning for dinner and perhaps learning more about the owners and the region they came from. Give it a try. New experiences are good! read more

Being a vegetarian in Muncie is no easy feat. Even if restaurants offer vegetarian options, 8 times out of 10 I find meat in my supposed veggie dish anyway. I am a huge fan of Indian food, not only because it tastes amazing, but because they take great care and consideration of dietary restrictions. Sitara is a good example of this! Their lunch buffet pretty much can't be beat. The menu is rotating and I can always find two or more different dishes to try. (And of course unlimited naan refills are a guilty pleasure.) They featured a cauliflower dish the other day that was to die for! One gripe I do have is that their dinner menu is a bit pricey, especially for vegetarian options. I am addicted to paneer masala, but little more comprises this dish than the cheese cubes and sauce and it makes me cringe at times to pay upwards of $14 for so little substance. The service has definitely improved since Sitara first opened, which is a relief. Muncie has been waiting a long time for an Indian restaurant, and Sitara has stepped up into that void. I tried most of Indian Places in East Coast. I moved here and wanted to try this place which seemed to opened new. Best way to tell the food in an Indian Restaurant is to taste their food on a Buffet. I tried on a friday lunch, ambience is ok none of the typical indian dining like. For god's sake the place is owned an managed by a NEPALI most american's dont even know where this country is nothing against a different national but you cant imitate the cuisine of a different country if you do not know how to cook it. The service not that great. The place we were offered was smelling so we had to change after out appetizer. The food sucked literally. I dont know where in the world he got the idea of serving bhelpuri on a kadai as appetizer and the coriander and raitha were in very big bowels which seemed like seperate dishes itself. the pakora were not tasty . There is no indian food if there is no spice is in it. all the curries were bland / sweet. The naans were not pluffy enough. The rice was ok , could have been better. I expected biryani or fried rice. Chicken tikka masala and chicken rogan were not tasty at all. An Indian restaurant is know by it's dessert --- Gajar Halwa --- the carrots were not appropriately boiled in milk and there were not condiments.My wife hated it.... I could have made it better. Kheer - was not placed in the right place to start , you know what it was not even boiled properly in the milk -- leave alone the taste... I did not even taste it... I could sense by looking at it...... And the mango lassi which I spent was worst more lassi no mango just of the refrigerator. Man i can go on .... It was one of my worst nightmare at an Indian (nepali) restaurant. first thing they have to do is to arrange the dishes in a orderly fashion , please do not mix the dessert and appetizer with the main course. I think he should just make some nepali mamo --- you can make an indian restaurant by just hiring some indian cooks and hanging the Taj mahal posters. Bottom line .. This restaurant is a shame or sham of Indian Cuisine.... Those people who have reviewed this place as good - my guess is you guys did not taste any real authentic food. read more

First off this was my thrid different indian restaurant I have ate at in the surrounding area and I would rank it third. Sorry but the Kheer was just very very soupy and had almost no rice in it, and the flavor of the curry chicken as well as most of the other dishes on the buffet I would say were abit bland. Taste of India in New Castle would be my chocie for the surrounding area. Not just because of the buffet but at dinner its about 2 to 3 dollars cheaper on all the menu items. Now I would try Sitara again but its gonna take awhile!!!! read more

I was there for a lunch buffet and the food was undoubtedly one of the best Indian food I have ever had in recent times. Our server was very friendly and the atmosphere was great with excellent interior designing. it is definately worth the price.
