The food was good, we ordered the 6 chicks casserole and it went perfectly with the side of gravy! Definitely would like to try more on the menu!! One of the waitresses was really rude. I believe her name was Linda, I heard the hostess call her that. She was standing at the register and completely ignored the group who walked up to the register and she got tired of them staring at her a few minutes later and yelled in the back for someone else to "come deal with them". A few minutes later when it was time for me to pay for my to go order and the host asked her to help out and she huffed and said it will be a bit. The host was nice and all the other servers were as far as I could tell but she was very off putting. I was hesitant to give Six Chicks a try after reading a few of the Yelp reviews but my friend and I (we like to call ourselves "The Brunch Babes") are always looking for a new place to chit chat and overeat at! The verdict is- we loved it! Haters gonna hate. Our server was very busy- but very sweet and attentive! We weren't in a hurry so it didn't bother us that she was running around like a chicken with her head cut off (ba dum tss- get it? Six Chicks- chickens? Lol anyways). If a place is busy and there's only one or two servers you just have to sit back and relax and cut them some slack. The coffee was DELICIOUS! I also had scrambled eggs, hash browns, bacon, and a pumpkin walnut pancake! Everything was delicious. My friend had a breakfast burrito and a cinnamon roll pancake and loved them both! Went today for a late lunch. The wait was not bad for a large group. The foot was well worth it. The blazing omelette was one of the best i have had. Good morning! I woke up hungry this morning, so I yelped breakfast places in South Haven. I knew there'd be a nice array of options because this is a resort/tourist town, flanked on the west edge by the fine white sand beaches of Lake Michigan! After a very impatient review of the options, I noticed that I was just a quarter block from Six Chicks. This would've been my choice anyway, based on the name, and it was close, and I was hungry! I found the menu to be large, and in charge, but I ordered off the specials board. I always prefer the specials, as I am a lazy menu reader. Not to mention, I never want the same old. Yes, I have my favorites, but a special is, well, special. So, country fried steak, eggs, and toast. I asked if any of the toasts were house specialties and was directed toward the cranberry nut toast (do this!) and opted for the house hash potatoes, which were both sweet and white potatoes grilled [nearly] to perfection! Everything was good! The coffee (though I am SO tired of cream packets! Come on guys! Can we please do real cream for dine in! We can do this!!!) was refilled regularly, eggs were perfectly over medium, and the steak and gravy was good, enough. Could've been a little more peppery, but I know this is America‍. All in all, it was an enjoyable and successful visit. The waitresses even gave me some info about dipping my kayak into the Black River next. Let me preface this review that, pre-covid, this would be a five star review, the food was excellent and fast service. The reason this is a one star review is this restaurant is skirting the edges of social distance way too close. My wife and I were sat at on one side of a booth within six feet of two other parties. We asked to move to a clear table that was a safe distance away, and another couple was placed within six feet of us again! (After we ordered or we would have left). Yet another table opened up, but in order to keep distance, once again my wife and I had to sit on the same side to keep distance. My husband, friends, and I loved our breakfast six chicks. it was super busy but they had a little buzzers that would go off on our table was ready which is nice. I had the Baja omelette, a pancake and hash browns. Hashbrowns were super crispy and a pancake with sweet and delicious. My husband and one of our friends had the breakfast casserole which they both got with a side of biscuit gravy. They both said it was amazing. My gluten-free friend got the zucchini waffle. Spending as much time as we do in South Haven, we found ourselves awake enough on a Thursday morning to try this new restaurant out. The building is located several blocks away from the crowded downtown area. The interior is bright and outfitted with wall hangings in every direction of chickens. Upon entering we read the sign at the register which said, "Please wait to be seated." A server said, "Sit wherever you like." We choose a booth. Coffee was hot and brown and plentiful. My girl ordered the Classic Breakfast, which consisted of two poached eggs, bacon, home fries, and white toast. I order the Corned Beef Hash, which came with two poached eggs and wheat toast. Maybe ten minutes elapsed before we got our plates from the kitchen. My girl thought the bacon were cooked appropriately, but believed the cubes of potato that made up the home fries had been boiled just short of becoming mush, and the toast was unbuttered. She appreciated that her eggs, though of small to medium size, were poached very nicely. She thought the home fries were unseasoned and though some sort of sweet potato had also been used, the entire dish was absent the nice crispiness on the outside. She also found two cubes of potato that had started to turn black; cubes apparently missed being detected by the cook. My corned beef hash consisted essentially of corned beef that looked like it had gone through a grinder along with the same white cubes of boiled potatoes that were used with my girl's home fries. It was an undersized serving, which under the circumstances was fine since there was nothing memorable or enjoyable about eating it. The poached eggs were undersized but poached well, and the wheat toast was wheaty and toasty. The phrase "scratch kitchen" describes a quality driven restaurant with a focus on regional and local farm ingredients. That's not what this is. This is a diner. And not a particularly creative one. There is no excuse for the cook not knowing how to create the crust that comes with putting a layer of sliced or cubed potatoes on the flat top. Similarly, onions and green peppers would have improved the corned beef hash considerably, along with not grinding the protein. As we left, my girl quipped that perhaps the word "scratch" did not apply to the word "kitchen" but instead was modifying the phrase "six chickens." read more

The coffee was good and I was over the moon that they have Truvia packets on the table for a sweetener option. However, my coffee was never refilled once. The food came out lightning fast and hot. I got a Belgium waffle with a side of bacon. The waffle was kind of bland and tasted like a box mix and the bacon was a little rubbery and looked as though it was the precooked kind that comes in a box. My husband got the croissant French toast and two eggs over medium. The eggs were cooked perfectly although definitely needed salt and pepper. The French toast was a little underwhelming and a little bland, but perhaps my expectations were too high. As far as pricing, I feel it was a little overpriced for the quantity and quality of food. Overall it was mediocre and I'd probably just go to the other breakfast place in town that I'll not name in this review. read more

This place was lovely! We were traveling through town on our way home from a wedding, and the name sounded cute. It turns out the restaurant is, indeed, cute as well! Prepare for lots of chicken decor and country charm. We visited on a Sunday, and it was very busy. There was a longish wait, but staff knew the drill and found ways to keep everyone calm and happy as they waited. My kids got the pancakes, which came decorated as chicks--with a candy corn beak and m&m eyes. My own brunch was less exciting--a breakfast casserole that sounded amazing on the menu but was just okay in execution. The kids also got coloring pages with chickens on them, and various completed chicken coloring pages adorned parts of the restaurant. Overall we had a lovely experience. One of my favorite breakfast places to eat in south haven! Typical American style diner food but every time we have gone it's been extremely good. I love their omelets are huge, and they make an awesome bbq pulled pork sandwich. You have to also get their homemade cinnamon roll, it's delicious! The only negative thing is you may have to wait a while to be seated or to get your food if they are full. The kitchen isn't big enough for the size of the restaurant so be prepared and be patient. read more

After a long Sunday morning bike ride on the Kal-Haven Trail, we decided to try Six Chicks for breakfast/brunch. When we arrived around 11:30 AM, there were multiple small groups of people waiting. This was a good sign that it was at least popular. We had a 25-30 minute wait which was acceptable to us. Once seated, we were greeted promptly, beverage order taken, and we reviewed the extensive menu. My spouse ordered the California omelette (scramble) and I ordered one of the breakfast specials, a vegetable quiche. We were thrilled with both dishes because they were both fresh and had a rich, creamy texture and flavor. Bottom line: forget those other reviews that ding this place for one unpopular employee or spotty service. Six Chicks has a solid menu, reasonable prices, and they know what they are doing. Sure, the service wasn't perfect, but everyone was working hard to please us. It was well worth the wait and we look forward to returning for another meal. read more
