The last time I came here, it was still called 'Marine World Africa USA'. Times have changed. Seriously. Anyways, they still have animals, shows, and exhibits, but with the addition of roller coasters. You'll want to spend an entire day checking out everything. If you can, avoid days w/crowds. They have lots of corporate food stalls- Papa Johns, Gordon Biersch, Panda Express, etc ... 3 stars because I expected better roller coasters. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - :: Thrill Seekers Guide to the rides :: ROAR The token wooden coaster. This one has the best constant stomach dropping, zero gravity feeling. For the best umph, sit in the rear rows. TONY HAWK's BIG SPIN This one looked very promising with the curves and dips and spinning car you sit in. It turned out to be a real dud. It has some speed and quick turns, but the car won't spin unless you and your co-riders are at a certain weight level. For best umph, ride with the Klumps. V2: VERTICAL VELOCITY At first glance, it looks a bit boring, and it is, but being suspended in the air looking down for that amount of time [at the back part that is straight up] seriously gives you a KILLER 0 gravity, stomach dropping sensation. The corkscrew bit out front does nothing. For the best umph, sit in the rear rows for the longer suspension. MEDUSA As the coaster train is going up, you're thinking 'Wow, this is high up'. Then you reach the peak and think it'll drop, but dips then drops. EPIC FAIL! It should have just dropped. Quick speed and first 1/2 of ride is more thrilling. For the best umph, sit in the rear rows. KONG Worst. Line. Ever. Only one coaster train so it takes FOREVERS. Hit this one up as early as you can if you want to ride it. The ride has speed and quick thrills, but ZERO STOMACH SENSATION. For the best umph, sit in the rear rows. COBRA Nothing. Looked boring and was boring. No thrills at all. Probably more exciting for little children. The curves are sharp and you may end up sliding into the side or your co-rider. For the best umph, sit in the rear rows. HAMMERHEAD SHARK Beware of the thing that comes down over you (the harness thingie), it'll crunch your pelvic region TWICE. Slow, torturous revolutions. For the best umph, sit in the front/rear rows. Scat-A-Bout You'll want to sit inside-to-outside, smallest-to-biggest. The centrifrugal force of this ride will slam you into the side or your co-riders. Its pretty fun. read more

Me and Rachel got some time away from the 5 little ones and 3 big ones and headed straight from the kids rides to Medusa. Front row, outer seat. Holy crap. Totally worth the wait. And Rachel is my new East Bay Friend. We have more in common than I imagined. You act differently in the kindergarten pick-up line than you do in the front row, outer seats. I have very mixed feelings about this place. My family and I have annual passes and come here at least once a month. Our son always enjoys coming here with just us or with a gang of family or friends. We have always enjoyed the shows that they offer and rides. The part of the park that has huge flaws to me is in the area of food. We have food passes that go with our annual passes. We get to eat at numerous places throughout the park. The issue is there never seems to be enough employees in a food location for the number of people in line and the employees that are there never ever move with a purpose. They walk from point a to b very slowly. They never seem to think im heading to the other side of the room to get your food and the condiments are near the food so maybe I should asl you before I slowly walk over there if you need anything to go with your order. They will walk to get your food come back and then ask if you want ketchup(or another dip) and when you say yes they have to wall to the other side of the room again. Let's face it, when you are ordering burger and fries or chick strips and fries odds are you are going to need ketcht or a dip. There will be maybe 5-8 families or people in a line and it easily take 30-40 minutes to get through the line and then you have to wait for your food. You would think that since you wait so long gor your food to come out that it is becay of cook time and that it should be hot and freshly cooked but I rarely get hot food. It normal tastes.like it's been sitting under a heating lamp too long which doesn't make sense if you have to wait so long. My passes allow my family to eat lunch and dinner at the park. It take over an hour on average to get food and eat it. When the park is only open from 11am to 8pm we are wasting 2 plus hours a day just on getting food. I would give the shows/entertainment a 5 star rating, the rides a 4 star rating and the food experience a 1 star rating. I would also give their lack of communication with me a 1. I truly try and focus on the positive of everything. When it comes to a negative experience I always bring it to managements/the company's attention and give them a chance to fix it before "blasting" them on yelp or social media. After my first experience I went online to their site and reached out to them with their complaints procedure and heard nothing back. I also wrote to them with an inquiry about food options at the park since I am gluten, dairy and corn free and they never replied to that. In addition, after every visit( since they know exactly when I go) they email me a survey and encourage feedback and again have a complaint section. I filled out the survey and told them about the negar food experience and didnt hear anything from them. After my second trip I got another survey request email and once again took the time to tell them all of the pros and my one con and yet again no contact was made. Each time we go to the park we experience the same issue with food and every time they want me to take time out of my life to fill out a survey to help make them better. I stopped doing it. After reaching out once myself and doibg to surveys per their request and getting zero feed back I feel its ok for me to reve this negative part of my experience. What horrible customer service! I recently purchased 6 season passes for a group of my son's friends. I ordered online linking through the print-n-go link. 5 new passes and 1 renewal was purchased.... at checkout it did not give me a print option.... weird.... but I thought maybe it will send the link via email. Oh no it did not! When I called to ask about it the woman at tech support told me that renewals were not eligible for Print-n-go. I'd just have to wait to receive the passes in the mail. I explained to her that I was planning on going to Six Flags the following day and needed the passes. She said I could go pick them up at the park @customer service. This was reasonable. ...... but my purchase included a parking pass that also was coming via mail.... and I didn't want to pay for parking in the meantime. She told me that was to bad that I would have to pay for parking or wait for the passes in the mail. I then called the park directly and was told basically the same thing. When I explained to the customer service rep that it didn't state anywhere on the website or during the check out process that renewals weren't eligible for print-n-go he said to me, "we don't have to state it, it's obvious". When I asked him to expand on that statement he said that we reprint the previous years pass and send it to you. After going around in circles with this guy for 10 minutes.... basically all I wanted at this point was the parking pass so I didn't have to pay another $15 to park....... he says I can just email you the passes and you can print them at home!!! What??? All that and the solution was as easy as that? It's what I asked for initially and was told that it was absolutely not possible!! I expect a reasonable amount of effort from customer service when it comes to resolving issues. If there really cannot be anything done about a certain situation.... I am willing to accept that. There is no way not to love this place. It's not dirty. It's super reasonably priced, the food is not overpriced at all. And yes there is a ton of people but the good part is the lines are never super long so I can go in with my kids and we can go on every ride in one day. read more

I'm just going to go right out and say this. This amusement park is NOT period friendly. Yes. You read that correctly. They have a 24 hour locker service OUTSIDE OF THE PARK which you pay $11 to use. Please note again that it is outside of the park and so it sucks you in to paying for it by thinking that you can use this service for jackets, keys, and bulkier things that you might not need now but could use later on in the evening. I used this service but kept my backpack, which was carrying my pads (oh yes, I'm going there), thinking that I could leave it near the platform as I rode the thirty second rides. Oh no! Not that easy!! Please, continue. This park forced us to pay $1 every time we wanted to go on a ride to use a stupid 90 minute locker because you can not leave any personal items on or near the ride or ride platform. I just want to say thank you, Six Flags, for punishing me for the lack of control I have deciding when my body should bleed out. Thank you. Also, I appreciated your 60-80 minute waits in line for rides that blared teenage emo music about getting drunk on weekends and not remembering getting in trouble with police. The only thing I would have appreciated more than this would have been to have young children around who could learn such terrible behavior by idolizing the music you chose to blare park-wide with their accompanying music videos. Oh wait - there were! What a world!! The wait for Johnny Rockets was also very enjoyable. I eventually left line when a woman who had just received her hamburger pointed out, "I just waited an hour to actually get my food. Good luck." I will say though that the animals here were amazing even though they were clearly kept in enclosures that were too small and lacked anything entertaining for the animals themselves. We had the chance of seeing Shouka, the killer whale, play with the dolphin (don't remember the name) before the show started and we were the only ones there and that was the only thing that made this trip worth while. I feel that this place is super underrated. It's much better and funner than Great America. Although it is more expensive, it is definetly worth it. Better service, nicer employees, and a larger park with animals!! Pros: -Tram service from the parking lot to the park -Friendly greeters -Employees always stop and help when they see someone looking at a map -Touch pools for marine animals -Feeding spots for animals -Roller coasters are all near each other Cons: -Daredevil ride only allows the front two riders to decide how many loops to do (Does not ask everyone else) --For example, the front riders say 15 loops that's what you get... So sad that the day was less than expected. Please, please, Six Flags.....signs!!! From parking to entering the park, to refilling our drinks, there was no clear direction of where to go, what line to be in, etc! It was a disaster from the off-ramp all the way to the parking spot, trying to remember where to go, where we would be paying, etc. There was no clear direction anywhere. If there were two very long lines at a snack stand, you may get all the way to the front just to be rudely told that that was a refill only line, then you are directed to the back of the food line to start all over again. I prepaid for tickets, food and a drink bottle thinking that I was saving money and time, but there was no option for my 4-year-old granddaughter on the website, so I bought her an adult ticket and spent $6 more than I probably should have. Once inside the park, the drink bottle coupon was refused by four snack stands before I found the approved one and the food coupon was good at only a few places. We chose a bucket of chicken meal (waited in line for 45 minutes) and ended up with 1/2 a bucket of over-cooked, dried out chicken strips with soggy fries. The staff was so unhappy. Why? Also, the food staff was quite often rude, slow and many times only one or two windows were open to help a huge mass of summer-going consumers (hire up for your busy season, Six Flags!). Seeing as how we were only going to go on the kiddy rides with my granddaughter in tow, I was disappointed to see so many rides down (in the middle of the summer rush!!). I understand the water features/fountains being down (because of the drought?), but so many rides? I was also disappointed to see so many line jumpers, even in the kid rides and food lines. Line jumpers were everywhere and I even heard some people inform staff about them, but staff just said "oh, okay, thanks for telling me". I am so sad that the quality of this park has dropped so significantly since I was last here in 2013. What is going on? The animals need bigger pens and your staff need more training. I have never seen such shitty service in my life. Pardon my French. My boyfriend and I planned a day to swim with dolphins and our appointment was at 12pm. At 11:45am, we were stopped by Angelina who was holding a rope to prohibit anyone from coming through. I politely inquired if I could pass because I needed to be on time for my 12pm appointment. She just looked at me and started talking in her walkie-talkie. I thought she was having someone come greet us and bring us in. Then 11:55am rolls around. Okay? What the hell? I inquire with her again, "May I please pass? I really don't want to be late to swim with the dolphins." She ignores me. ARG! Then I had my boyfriend talk to her and again she ignores us. Finally, 12:03 she lets us and the other millions of people behind us in. We reached the class at 12:05 and rang the doorbell (that apparently didn't work). I rang it again. And again. I walked around to see if there was anyone there. No one came out. I walked to the pool. No one there. Finally, a lady with a few kids comes by. It was the dolphin trainer that was leading the class we were supposed to be in. Her name was Kaitlyn and she was super friendly. We explained to her the whole fiasco with Angelina and she told us Angelina wasn't supposed to do that. The dolphin class and swim was definitely fun. The trainers were all great. The actual swim was only 25-30 minutes which is not much for how much money we spent on the class. Since we had to buy a ticket to get into the park, we decided to make the most of the money we spent. We bought food that took WAAAAAAAY too long to come out and it wasn't even cooked all the way. Half cooked fries that were still cold inside. Gross. Then we went to get funnel cake. Again, took an absurdly long time for someone to even greet us. The guy that rang us up for the funnel cake rang us up for a $14.99 soda we didn't even purchase. The girl working the fudge counter was the only one that greeted us right away. The entire day was a giant disappointing mess and I left to drive 2 hours home. Was not worth the drive or the money. That was my first and last time ever at Six Flags- Discovery Kingdom. read more

If you are thinking of attending Six Flags Discovery Kingdom's Halloween Fright Fest, please save your money! I am a huge enthusiast of Halloween Haunts, and this isn't even a haunt, it's a scam. I should've clued into this scam when I couldn't find a price for the mazes anywhere on the website, just asterisks in a few places saying that some mazes "may" cost extra. Any business that isn't up front about its pricing is probably up to no good. My sister and I arrived at the park(ing lot) at about 4pm, but we didn't enter the park until about 4:30 because the parking lot was really full with no attendants directing traffic, and it was pretty much a free for all. For the $15 price for parking, you'd think they could provide more than one attendant. We wandered the park trying to get the lay of the land, and the only map available was the one for the fright fest, which was very unclear and pretty useless. Our wanderings kept ending in disappointment as we found most of the animal attractions already closed for the day. I would've appreciated knowing this schedule in advance so I could've arrived early enough to see them. Eventually, we got in line for the wristband to get into the "haunted houses" and we hemmed and hawed over whether to get the $15 regular one or the $20 VIP one. The attendant selling them told me "there are a lot more people buying the VIP than the regular today" which was my clue to get the cheaper one. I think he was actually hinting that I shouldn't waste the extra $5. The first "maze" we attended was the "Scrapyard of the Dead". The wait in line was about 45 minutes, and as we got to the front, the attendant let 4 groups of VIPs go in before my group got to. It was aggravating that $5 more bought people that much privilege, because we did still pay to get into these mazes, which wasn't even worth $15. Note to Six Flags administration who may read this: don't charge anything for the mazes. Most parks don't. Go ahead and charge suckers for the VIP experience if you want to make money off of the naive. The maze itself was pretty much a combination of black walls, fencing, an old car that one zombie teen banged on and a couple of metal buckets. I think there were 3 zombie teens working the whole maze, maybe 4. By the time we were ushered out by the zombie teen with a chainsaw, I was thinking wtf? Then we went to the maze that was in the Shark Experience. I figured that it ought to be cool because there are sharks. After another aggravating wait (during which time I talked up Knott's Scary Farm to a kid who just wanted a good scare and was already disappointed in his experience) we walked through the Shark Experience which was festooned with some ripped up strips of fabric, a couple of extra walls with holes to see the fish and I think I counted one or two teen zombies. By the time I exited the maze, I was really thinking WTF. REALLY? There was no atmosphere, very few characters, and nothing scary about this experience. There was also no line-management or proper signage. As the evening was progressing quickly due to the waits in line, we decided to cut our losses with the lame mazes and head for the coasters. We had one very satisfying ride on the Medusa before the park closed. Other highlights were the butterfly garden and the scary sea lion show, which was pretty cute and funny. It's embarrassing that this experience even has the Six Flags brand associated with it. Magic Mountain's haunt has been fantastic in the past, and they don't charge extra for the mazes. Great America's was great too. They are small but effective. Considering how much $$ the day added up to, I think I would've saved my money and put it towards a ticket to Knott's Scary Farm. Going local was my only option this year, so now I'll have to get the bad taste out of my mouth with a trip to Pirates of Emerson at the Pleasanton Fairgrounds and/or a trip to Great America. It's a shame, Six Flags, a real shame. read more

Ok so I know these are difficult times and people are working hard but this grand opening after being closed due to the pandemic is an epic failure. You might think that only letting 15% of capacity into the park would lead to an amusement park paradise but here is where it goes wrong. First of all, only about 15% of the park is open (4 rides + 3 little kid rides) so that immediately wipes out the benefit of only allowing 15% of people in (and also kinda wipes out the safety benefits of 15% capacity as well) so now we are at a wash with normal operations and that would not be too bad but on top of that, the 15% of the park that is open is only operating at like 15% efficiency, running only one train on coasters, only loading the front and back rows or leaving six empty seats for every one or two seats taken. I get why they have to this (with the exception of only running one train on coasters) but this leads to extremely long 100+ minute long lines. I am also not sure what good social distancing on a 2 minute outdoor ride does when you pack people like sardines in line for hours to ride in the first place. (They try to social distancing the line but with crowds this size it simply does not happen) on top of all of this, the number they use to determine 15% capacity is probably highly inflated and about 75% of the parking lot seemed to be full. All of this leads to a pretty bad customer experience with even 2 hour waits just to get food and drinks. Finally, I would not use the mobile pickup option for food that they are pushing as you must pay or use your pre paid food credits in advance and after 2 and a half hours when we were leaving the park that food still was not ready and there appears to be no way to cancle so you just kiss that money goodbye. I would like to think this is just a product of figuring out out to deal with these troubling times but it really seems that they are just trying to milk people out of money while running the park as cheaply as possible and that has kinda been their MO for decades. read more

I don't think I'll be back to this place. Ok where do I start? Hmm lets start with parking. ahh yes. Lets do. First off Its 20 dollars to park! What? How in the world do you expect people to arrive? I have a family of 5 do you expect us to take a cab? The bus? Walk?! I guess we should of walked since the parking lot is like a half mile away from the park. Thats a fun. I went on "Autism Awareness Day". When I arrived at the gate I asked if we could bring in gluten free food and the guy at the gate said no that you could eat at picnic benches in the parking lot.. wtf?? I would think since its autism awareness day they would have some kind of food option for gluten/casein free diet. Nope. Food prices AND wait times, for food, were RIDICULOUS! We ate at Johny Rockets and spend 42 dollars on 3 cheese burgers that came with french fries. We stood, at the window, waiting for food for 20 mins. I don't know who designed the park. Maybe some kind in a sand box drew up a map and they decided the design would work but it doesn't. You're constantly walking into a dead end having to turn around and walk either in circles or into another dead end. Most of the arenas or shows were closed off. 2 rides that we KNOW of stopped working while we were in line. Who knows how many other rides took a dump while we were there. Try to avoid the overflow lot across the street if you can help it or leave way before the park closes. On the 4th we left the park as it closed and due to the way they sectioned off the parking lot. Came here for some birthday debautory, and everybody had a blast! We were crackheads looking for an adrenaline rush at every twist and turn. The best part about this place is the short lines. The food sucks, the caged up animals make me sad, but the coasters/rides are decent enough to purchase a season pass for next year. Tony Hawk Ride - This ride got me so sick I almost passed out. Medusa - Short enough line to make this a decent coaster. Kong - Worst coaster. I was getting knocked around like Robin Givens during her marriage to Tyson. Velocity - Best ride ever. 0-60 in less than 6 seconds is a pure rush. I screamed the whole time during this ride. Shark Ride - Carnival ride at it's finest. read more

I'm an amusement park snob: not to say that I go to a lot of them and that's made me discerning. It's more like I think that most of them are cheesy and gross and i don't want to visit them. I was afraid that SFDK would be like that, too, so it was with trepidation that I decided to take my 2-year old and his bestie yesterday. Six Flags was great. It was really, really fun. It was clean. The employees were freindly--in fact, they seem to have been instructed to get riders psyched up before the ride and give them 5 after the ride--goofy, but it worked for me. I remember the old Marine World, too. This ain't it. And if it were, we'd all hate it, trust me. What we remember about Marine World is seen through the flattering blush of nostalgia. Here's what I liked about Six Flags: Nearby. Not overly-commercialized. You had to pay close attention to be aware of the Loony-Tunes connection. (Yes, there's a section called Loony Town or something, but it's nothing like the immersion you get at Disney.) It's an amusement park AND a zoo. Tired of rides? Look at animals. The animals are all up in your face. (Yes, that's because their pens are really small, but I'm apparently not an activist.) Employees are super-friendly and make the rides more fun. Tons of rides, and lots of great ones for 2-year olds. Like, endless rides for toddlers. The restaurants let you use your own cup for refills and there are recycling bins all over the place. Here's what I didn't like: The food is OUTRAGEOUSLY expensive. $6.50 for a scoop of "Cold Stone Limited", which is basically Cold Stone without any of the things that make Cold Stone Cold Stone. $11 for a huge pile of crap nachos or a rank-and-file cheeseburger. Super-confusing layout! We got lost frequently. On the fence about going? I say GO. There's a ton to do and it's not as cheesy or sketchy as you might be thinking. My toddler, and my super-picky husband and I liked it so much that we're going to get the kiddo a season pass for next year. (Oh, I think the lines probably get gnarly--though they weren't when we visited--so maybe there is some ideal day to go during the busy season.) read more

We saw the Shouka show - and this phrase just kept flooding my brain: "SIT, UBU SIT...GOOD DOG.". The Shouka show blew, and not because Shouka has a blowhole. The announcer's voice was just so fekkin' annoying - he was giving me a solid case of heartburn. ~ Free Shouka...better yet: drop her off in the delta: I'm sure those two wayward whales (Delta and Dawn) will find their way back to the Pacific mighty quick if a hungry Shouka was in hot pursuit of their humps. "My humps, my humps...my lovely lady humps." Shit! The white tiger took a liking to Janis and so it did as tigers do...he sprayed her pretty ass. Janis got owned! Tigers rock. The butterflies scared me...flying all around crazy-like and mating - something about midflight sperm-spraying just creeps me out. Funnel cakes ...HELLO. Nuff said! The raging water rapids were supposed to be a fun activity for all of us to do (as a few, including John T. and Ramo cannot stomach coasters) ~ well of course my gay ass went directly under Niagara falls. Phfft! Note to self and all other posterior-challenged folks: Leave the padded underwear at home. You see the pads expand and act like sponges when they get wet. While I was boootaylicious - my ass weighed in at a good 37 pounds AND was wet for the next 6 hours. Not fun! When we entered we were greeted by a small group of agros protesting over the Asian elephants at Marine World...saying they don't belong there, and that they're being mistreated. Well...what about the tiger that made Janis his bitch? What about the fucking butterflies? And what about Shouka? I wanted to bitch slap em' all. You can't pick and choose which animals are worth saving. And to the moron who strapped a laptop to his chest at the main gate: You're lucky that security didn't take you aside and detonate your silly ass. You looked like a bomb-wielding terrorist. Shame on you...but how did you manage your battery supply? The end of the day was insane: Mad-ass, Bad-ass roller coaster that catapults you and 30 other fools outta the station at the speed of light. Zero to 110 in half a heartbeat. Crazy-exhilarating. I have not been to this location since I was probably 12 years old. I have to say that I had an absolute blast, but I can't let my childhood get in front of my honest review. This park is a bit dated, but Six Flags has done it's best to come in and change things around a bit. New roller coasters (I don't think there were any when I was here last), new food (still not too great with the average pizza costing $6+ a slice), and the same old shows, with the exception of the ski show which was closed down years ago. That is unfortunate, especially when most people loved this show. It's too bad that the lake is wasted now, turning green with algae and moss taking over. The park is still a standard amusement park and what I think I realized more than anything, is that even though I may be a kid at heart, I'm not a kid in actuality. Those rides tear you up! Everything is closed litterly everything is closed large lines, very rude employees especially on the kids rides, prices are too high for this shit place, i payed $56 for cups and they literally had no drinks except Fanta, are you serious?? They are always out of everything. All roller coaster are very old and stop. half of the roller coaster are closed, What do they take money for? I hear people's frustration and disappointments. If I could give it no stars I would. I understand that places are understaffed; however, this has been the worse experience ever. I got into the park at 12:40p and by 4p I still have not been on any of the rides I stood in line for. All have broken down resulting in us leaving the line. We finally was able to score some flash passes for Jokers but the ride broke down. Plus they are only using one train knowing that most of the rides are closed resulting in the open rides being overly congested. I am an amusement park fanatic and this is the worse experience ever. Not buying a season pass or one day pass for this place again. Save your money. Go to Great America. read more

THIS IS FOR THE DOLPHIN DISCOVERY PROGRAM ONLY! My husband and I went to Dolphin Discovery for Valentine's day. It was AMAZING!!! I definitely recommend it!. It's a bit pricey, but it is a once in a lifetime opportunity. It was soooo much fun. I was pleasantly surprised at how much interaction we got to have with the dolphins. We got to tell them to do tricks, feed them, pet them, learn a lot about them and swim with them (including being towed across the pool on their dorsal fin). It was an incredible date!!!! If you have the opportunity, you want to do this! It starts with a 30-40 minute class to learn about the dolphins. Then you change into wet suits. You go out to the pools and get assigned to a trainer. There are pictures being taken constantly of your interaction. You learn more and get to do everything above that I mentioned. You get to pick a 6x8 picture per person and have the option of purchasing more...which we did! *Tip* Bring your bathing suit separately to wear under the wet suit, and being a plastic bag to put your wet clothes and swim suits in. read more

We've had passes ever since my children were little. Super fun place to take your family and quite a treat for our out of town guests. I think it's pretty cool that they merge together with Hurricane Harbor and can enjoy your season pass at both parks. read more

We have gold pass members since 2014. We understand the park is closed indefinitely. We are unable to attend and use the park which is closed indefinitely. They still are taking 50 dollars month from my account and would not let us cancel until July under their policy. So we are denied the ability to utilize the passes they are making us pay for regardless. read more

I really enjoy six flags and roller coasters, but today my experience sucked and i DO NOT plan on coming back ! my boyfriend and i get there at 5 because online the park says they close @ 10 so we were like okay cool just somewhere to go so we can get out the house. We get on the shuttle and a older guy was talking about the "promotional day" they were having today the driver says that there were actually closing @ 6 and i was like what the fuck why am i gonna waste my time standing around doing nothing cause it was busy as hell. I didn't want to ruin the evening so i just went with it but trust me i was pissed ! It's the fact that they have different hours than online like come on ! we had to have some passes to stay on the rides until 8:30 but we obviously didn't have that pass because i wouldn't be bitching and being a karen right now, but this was a waste of $106 and like i said before DONT PLAN ON COMING BACK. the communication was obviously lacking here today.. read more

There are so many things out there to do with your kids; please don't think this is a worthwhile experience. The park is clean, yes. The park is safe, yes. The park is somewhat wholesome, yes. However, there is a huge amount of character pushing, a whole bunch of animals are holed up in unnatural conditions, and the food is disgusting and outrageously priced. In fact, EVERYTHING is outrageously priced. Admission for a day is more than a season pass! $60 for admission for a day? Puh-lease, you are not Disneyland. However, if your kids are teenagers and they really hate all the other cool things there are to do in the Bay Area (which I find hard to believe), then please remember a few things: come early, the lines are short right after opening; bring a stroller for little kids because there are hills and lots of walking; and PLEASE bring your own food. Love love coming here!!! My kids loves and enjoy coming here too! There is so many rides for kids here the fun is endless! They have a Looney tune town and the jungle town for the kids. Also love the shows , so far I've seen 3 and I love all of them, but the dolphin is my favorite. As for the season pass, I had purchase the gold member with free parking. Totally worth it and I have 3 kids so they make it convenient for you by making monthly payments. As for the food oh my god please try the turkey leg it's to die for! It so moist and tender fall off the bonelicious! Yum! But sometime which is rare, you might end up getting the dry one. Also the funnel cake and crepes are the bomb! Also the refill bottles for drinks are so awesome that's the best idea they have came up with. Best part is that they have some days you can bring a friend in for free day. I have some family's that just can't afford it and they just need a break and have fun and relax. I know their kids totally appreciate it! I'll be back six flags! read more

This was my first time visiting Six Flags Discovery Kingdom. OK OK so I visited once before when it was called Six Flags Marine World. That was about a dozen years ago. I honestly don't remember everything about that trip (like did I even ride Roar?), but I do remember the crowd was pretty light and that was also at the same time of year during Fright Fest. Since my last visit, the park has made some excellent additions and the crowds sure seem to have swelled. Just pulling off the I-80 there was already a line of cars. We probably should have arrived earlier, but I underestimated the drive from Sunnyvale and the size of the crowd on this warm Saturday in September. By the way, $25 for parking? Good thing we have gold season passes. It's a little weird that I was able to get our 2017 gold passes from SFDK's web site for only $50 (gold includes parking). Something about that ratio seems off. Granted I purchased during their flash sale. Pro tip: The price you pay for season passes depends on your initial SF park. That's the park you have to visit first to process your pass. Since we already had this trip planned, we saved $22 per pass by renewing through SFDK instead of SFMM (gold passes are valid at all parks). I was tempted to splurge for the Flash Pass but it just didn't make sense for the rides I truly cared about. The catalyst for our trip was The Joker and to a lesser extent Superman Ultimate Flight. As the Flash Pass attendant explained (and this seems to conflict with their web site), the gold/platinum pass gets you a one-time use at Joker whereas SUF requires platinum and it's also one-time use. I didn't want to pay $90 for essentially two rides. Anyway, despite a fairly crowded day, we had a pretty good time highlighted by Joker and Superman. Sure I would have liked a lighter crowd in order to ride Joker more than once. But that's what happens when you practically give away your season passes. OK on to the rides. Medusa - This was the star attraction on my 2002-ish visit. It's still a fun ride and my favorite of the two floorless roller coasters in California. I love the straight drop. We were assigned to the second row but luckily ended up in the first row. SkyScreamer - As a coaster nut, I tend to ignore the flat rides, but we rode this since I've never been on a Star Flyer before. It was fun. Definitely worth it if the wait is decent. Dare Devil Chaos Coaster - Not really my cup of tea and we both walked away with a bit of nausea. I mostly rode it because, although these Larson Fire Ball rides are a long time staple at carnivals across the country, I don't think I've actually ever been on one. We found it interesting to watch the ride operator since she actually manually controls the ride for the most part. Dolphin Harbor - We grabbed a couple of frozen strawberry cups and caught the dolphin show that happened to be starting soon. It was a nice way to take a break in the shade and let the nausea dissipate. Pacific Rim 5D - This just happened to be near the Dolphin Harbor rear exit. Wow was this terrible. In stark contrast to Mass Effect New Earth at California's Great America, the picture quality was horrible. They basically took a battle scene from the movie and shoved it into a 4D type of experience. I'm glad it was only showing in 2D when we went. The Joker - Like I said, this was the reason for the visit and it did not disappoint. We lucked out and were assigned to the front row of the last car. From the top of the lift to the brake run, Joker is all kinds of awesome with airtime galore. It's only my second Rocky Mountain Construction creation and it reaffirms the fact that I must travel to ride them all. Do yourself a favor and seek out your closest RMC stat. The Joker alone is reason enough for me to come back here one day. Superman Ultimate Flight - This was my first time (finally) checking out a Sky Rocket II. It's a fun coaster and as a fan of Premier Rides, it was a great way to end our day at the park. read more

3 stars for the theme park, and an extra star for the animal shows. Came here last Sunday with some friends. We got there at about 12:30 pm and stayed until closing-- 7 pm. Craigslist is your friend, people. I only paid $20 each ticket and $5 for parking tickets. Pretty sweet... considering they were charging everyone else $15 for parking. MEDUSA- the BEST roller coaster of the day... nice drop-off in the beginning to give you that feeling of your stomach jumping into your throat. This ride WILL mess up your hair, so make sure you tie it before you board. KONG- This ride gave me a headache. I kept getting my head banged around. WHITEWATER RIDE- My poor BF and I were the unlucky ones to end up under that damn Niagra Falls, and even though we quickly stood up (in an attempt to escape the unwanted shower) we still got pretty soaked. And people stand around the ride waiting to blast you with these jets. WTF. We all came out looking like drowned rats, and I was walking around with water sloshing around in my shoes and my jeans were 10 lbs heavier after this ride. It was a nice sunny day today, but take my advice and don't ride this unless it's 100+ degrees, because you WILL be cold long afterwards. BOOMERANG- I personally think that going forward is more scary than the ride backwards. I ended up with another headache from bouncing around everywhere, though. SHOWS: Dolphin Show- I've always had a fascination with these intelligent animals. It breaks my heart to know that they are not where they belong and that they will live the rest of their lives performing tricks for Marine World. The show does try to educate the crowd a bit about dolphins, so I guess that's good for kids. My favorite part of the show was when the dolphins were "singing". Sooo cute. Shouka Show- I wanted to "Free Shouka". Again, I was captivated by its grace despite its size. Absolutely gorgeous animal and amazingly intelligent as well. Shouka did less leaps in the air than the dolphins did, but that was probably due to her size. Sucked for us, though, because we were in the splash zone and didn't get wet at all. Of course, expect food to be expensive. A chicken and fish strip combo w/ fries cost $9. Garlic fries were $5. Papa John's pizza was $10. Panda Express meals were going for $10 for a 2 combo meal. Bottled water and soda was $3.50, and a cup of beer was $8. They have a go-kart course that costs $7 a person, $3 for a passenger. We only had about 45 more minutes before the park closed, and the line was SUPER long... and was definitely going to take more than 45 minutes... so we opted against it, and just spent the rest of the day playing games and winning prizes. TIPS: - Check craigslist for cheap deals on tickets before paying full price. - RIDE THE TRAM. For some stupid reason we decided not to wait for the tram and walked the whole way back to the parking lot... which sucks when you're tired, soaking wet and cold. read more

I didn't get to finish this review during the time I had went-- Opening day for this season was on Saturday 03/16/13. We didn't go on that day simply to avoid the big crowds, which is why we came the Sunday of opening weekend. Parking and entrance was quick, and that is how I determined that that day was not crowded at all. Relieved about having less crowd to deal with, I soon realized that that wasn't my problem... Though I enjoyed being with my family, I was constantly annoyed at the ridiculously slow and inefficient service here! It took away the quality time I could have been enjoying with my family. Instead I was stuck in lines that even when standing there looking at the employees I could figure out how to make them more productive/efficient to make these line move faster! An example, was at one of their Refill Stations. We bought a souvenir cup and needed a refill and I fell in line for a refill assuming that it should be fast right, I just need a refill right? No... 2 employees at the station and 4 people ahead of me, this took 15-20 minutes!!! And when I got there they told me that their Sprite, the drink I wanted, was not carbonated at the moment. Completely unacceptable. I also dealt with long waits at the next food stand I went to during that day. Had to deal with slowing moving employees at the children's rides. Overall, I felt that majority of my day there was spent waiting in slow moving lines. And in the end not getting to ride all the rides we wanted to ride or see all the shows and attractions we would like to have seen. I am hoping by this time the employees there are faster at what they do. I don't think we'll be coming back this season. read more

I can not believe the people that complain of long line etc...they do have the Flash Pass to get to the front of the lines lol Your at a Theme park people.! We bought the season pass and it came with season pass parking. We did go later in the day around 12:30 no long lines to enter... Food is pricey but what Theme park isn't. We bring our food in our ice chest, saves $$$. We did also purchase the refill cup and its only 3.99 next visit to refill unlimited times that day. The park was clean and my kids enjoyed the shows...we look forward to returning soon. read more

We have season passes here and really enjoy the park. Our kids have finally gotten tall enough to ride most of the rides. We gave a great time! The lines aren't very long. We also got the food passes this year. Its well worth the money. While its a lot up front you don't pay again. Most of the animal exhibits aren't very spectacular. We did love the elephants and butterflies during our last visit. Fright fest was fun! And we are looking forward to holiday in the park. read more

Marine World? Discovery Kingdom? I don't care what people call this park because to me, I call it a dump. My first and only visit was on July 3rd and I can say that I was completely and totally underwhelmed. The park was filthy. The rides looked like they have had mechanical maintenance and cosmetic maintenance deferred for a long time. Even the animals looked like they would prefer to be anywhere than there. Yes, Discovery Kingdom has roller coasters that are pretty cool and for that they get an extra star. But, the $15 to park your car?!? To quote the parking lot cashier "Just wait, it gets worse, wait til you see the prices inside the park." High food prices are to be expected but when you charge more to park than Disneyland (arguably the gold standard of theme parks) you have to be on drugs. The amount of third party advertising was staggering. It was omnipresent as you walked through the park, stood in line for rides, exited rides, etc. And, we found it amusing, yet sad, that the gift shops not only sold items featuring the Looney Tunes characters but sold items with Mickey Mouse and the Disney gang of characters. Is Discovery Kingdom really that hard up for money that they have to sell merchandise you would expect to find at a competing theme park? The young park staffers were a mixed lot. Some were friendly while others were downright surly. Most shared the same expression as the animals...that "I'd rather be anywhere than here" look. Perhaps I should have taken my first clue after I saw the back of the blue employee polo shirts when it said "Please keep this park clean, MY FAMILY comes here too." (No emphasis added by me...this was exactly as it read) In short, we arrived at 10:30am, were back in the car by 2:00pm and thrilled to be going home. Next time, I'll just go back to Disneyland where they get it right. read more

By far the worst amusement park I've ever been to. There are only two decent rides here, Medusa and V2. Medusa would be a forgettable roller coaster at most parks, but here it's the star attraction. The initial drop is decent and the ride is way smoother than the other coasters in the park. V2 is pretty entertaining the first time you ride it but looses all of its appeal after that. The rest of the rides here are complete garbage. Kong and Roar shouldn't even be called roller coasters, they are about as thrilling as staying home on a Saturday night and watching Larry king. The food here is awful and overpriced and all of the lines are longer than they should be because the place is always understaffed. The crowd here is really shady, the most thrilling part of being here is trying not to get stabbed... they don't even make you wait in line for that attraction. I can't even go into the animal section of the park. I don't know what those animals did in their past lives to deserve such treatment but it must have been something truly awful. It breaks my heart just thinking about it. This place is an EPIC FAIL. read more

WOW....my Saturday there was a waste of my time! We decided to go to six flags since we went to Great America last year for Halloween so we wanted to go somewhere different! Boy...was that a mistake!!?!! The lines for roller coasts were 3hrs long.Their so-called "fright fest" was horrible. They only had ONE zombie "zone", which consisted of a 50 steps area with about 3 "monsters" within that zone. They had 3 "mazes" that you had to pay for. The line for aach maze was over an hour and the maze was SOOOO short. Literaly like a 2min walk. Oh....they do have "VIP" passes if you pay extra but the VIP passes line is just as long as the regular lines. And if the regular line is shorter, VIP ticket holder can't go into the regular line. Doesn't that make you feel like sucha Very Important Person? They should have called Line A and Line B. LIne B is more expensive but not necessarily shorter. So...gamble away. Great America is SO MUCH BETTER! Lines for roller coasters are a lot shorter. The whole park is a zombie zone. They have like 5-8 mazes. Line were about half an hour but much more worth it. Mazes are longer and more efforts are put in to scare you. Lines for roller coaster are bearable and shorter. I have to admit though...the ONE ride we were able to get on...Medusa was good. OHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!! Onel last note: The staff is so unprofessional. I went up to three different people to ask them about the mazes. Here are their responses: 1st guy - Oh...I'm not sure if we have mazes. I think so tho. 2nd guy - Yes. We have two mazes. It's ten dollars each. 3rd guy - No. we have no mazes Correct answer - they have three mazes. It's $10 for three. $15 for the so-called VIP. Buy your tickets online instead of buying them in the park . Online price is $47.99 (not including taxes) and in the park its $60.00. This Six Flags is more unique than others because they have animals mixed in with roller coasters so, that being said there's not that many roller coasters in this particular Six Flags. If you are a real roller coaster fan y'all should check out Six Flags Magic Mountain in Valencia, CA (Thrill Capital of the World ) **UPDATE 2016 SEASON** Roller Coasters Medusa - A pretty purple and green coaster with CRAZY loops, inversions, & twists ! This coaster is popular so, expect long lines. Kong - A orange and yellow coaster with crazy twists and loops and where your feet dangle in the air (This coaster isn't really popular because it makes your head hurt ) SkyScreamer - A 150 feet tall tower where you sit in chairs and a carousel swings you up 150 feet up in the air and feel the wind against your face and check out the incredible views ! Cobra - A snake themed kiddie coaster... That's basically it. THE JOKER - After Roar making memorable memories and putting a smile on people's faces for many years and its strong wooden structure standing strong in the Six Flags skyline it was time to say goodbye and say hello to a new generation... THE JOKER was announced which includes crazy chaotic inversions & elements that have never been thought of in this world with its purple & green track & it's crazy clown circus themed station this ride isn't a miss. Superman: Ultimate Flight - This coaster is very unique where you sit in carts and launches you up and then goes backwards and then launches forward again you go 150 feet up in the sky and go through steep crazy angled drops and twists. The Penguin Ride - Sit in little boats with a water gun and you squirt people next you,in front of you, & back of you. Be careful even bystanders can get wet! V2 - A purple launch coaster where you lunch up into the sky and go backwards (This ride is mostly closed throughout the year) Boomerang - A classic blue & yellow boomerang coaster Monsoon Falls - A classic water boat ride where you get wet. Pacific Rim 5D - A new addition to the theme park. It's an indoor 5D simulator ride based off the movie Pacific Rim with its huge theatre setting & it's comfortable 2 seater black leather seats your seat with jolt you around in all kind of motions. In my opinion this ride is more 4D than 5D because the only special effects they have are the tall massive screen in front of you,the simulated seats,& some water water effects throughout some scenes in the ride. read more
