A very disappointing first (and likely only) experience at Discovery Kingdom. Despite a promising first couple of hours, at least half of our park visit was wasted in line waiting for the Joker (one of the main draws for visiting the park), only for the ride to experience maintenance problems right as we were about to board the train, and were told to vacate the station. The park later re-opened the ride. Assuming the problem was resolved (and again, wanting to ride one of the marquee rides in the park), we get in line, only to wait another long while for the ride to break down, and be told to vacate the line. I understand that maintenance issues happen, but if they cannot confidently re-open a ride after an issue, they should just keep it closed so visitors know not to waste their time. Customer relations weren't able to do anything satisfactory to improve our experience. I'm visiting from out of state and won't likely be back for years, so the free day ticket they offered would be useless. Updated review is really a separate review for their Halloween event. I love this park and feeding the giraffe is my favorite!!! Fright Fest: Fright Fest Discovery Kingdom is a fun event. You can still ride the rides after dark but beware the roaming monsters. There are several haunted attractions that you can also upgrade to experience. The live shows on the front stage are open to everyone at the event. I thought the stage shows were really well done and entertaining. The haunted mazes had interesting themes and some really great moments. The creative mirror scare and seeing live sharks inside of a haunt were moments that stood out to me most. Overall it was a fun event that seemed to be geared slightly younger and a bit more family friendly than the other Six Flags Fright Fests I've attended in the past. Six flags in Vallejo opens at 11? Nope it's a lie. They let you in an hour early and then don't let you in to the rides until a little over an hour. Then we get to the rides and they forget to test the rides so now we wait another 30 min. Did someone sleep in? Did someone need to go to the bathroom and take a giant dooky? Not sure. Wish they would test the rides before not after the park opens. At least every single ride ended up needing fixing because something was broken. What happened? Not sure. One of the most underrate theme parks I ever been. This place is amazing because they combined my two favorite nostalgic area that I enjoyed when I was growing up. It is part zoo and part amusement park.. how awesome is that! The amusement park part is great despite for not being as big as the Magic Mountain. They have excellent rides like Superman, the Joker, and Medusa. Those are the 3 rides that I recommend! The Superman roller coaster is fast and vertical loops from side to side gets your blood pumping. The Joker roller coaster on the other hand is like a better version of Twisted Colossus in my opinion, since it is smoother ride in comparison. The Medusa is I think the biggest roller coaster I ever ride if I'm not mistaken. Anyway, all these coasters have a smooth acceleration without it jerking. The one roller coaster that we hate in here is the Kong. That coaster gave us a headache and we joked around saying it supposed to be called "Kong-Cussion." The loops are so tight together that it doesn't have time to recoil its acceleration making it prone to head injuries. Overall, the rides are awesome :) The zoo part of the park is the best! We saw bunch of animals from Giraffes to Tigers, and even a Walrus. Granted the shows are not as interactive, however most kids that I saw loves it. The dolphin show needs quite a work since its pretty much a snooze fest. Overall, they did a great job combining the two together. I'm excited to go here again in the future :) read more

Absolutely nothing accessible on the website stating you have to have any form of ID if you're 15+. Only place I found it was on a news app off of the website. Busiest day of the year, half the rides are closed, they take forever to load a ride, lines move at a snails pace. Don't even bother.

I always have a great time here! This year we decided to get the season passes and although their system was down when we went on Memorial Day, I thought they handled everything quite well. We were given a day pass while the system came back up and was told next time we shouldn't have an issue. I like to get there super early and beat the crowds even for just a little while. They had so much staff working, and as a customer I can appreciate this. the food that we ordered(although technically fast food) was all fresh, nice and hot and drinks were nice and cold. Both the concession stands and ride lines seem to run quick and smoothly. So many new rides since the last time I was out, and although some of my favorite things had been removed/moved I'm excited for our next trip out and see what else is new! read more

First thing is I came for my 15th birthday to have fun, and it was terrible! The waiting time for lines were ridiculous, they would let a big amount of people that had the flash pass on at a time to go on rides but wouldn't allow the people who were in line for one ride on for HOURS. The price for food was ridiculous and just for a bottle of water it was more than 4 dollars. All of the main attractions kept breaking down. In the time span from being there 1 hour after opened to the time it closed me and my party of 4 went on only 1 ride that was a main attraction, "The Wonder Woman ", and the second and third ones were just the "Sky Screamer" and the mini version of it. Also, when me and 2 friends got a cheeseburger meal from, "Big Belly Burger" and the cost of that was $17.99, excluding a drink. The meat was still pink. AND while waiting for our food we waited almost 10 minutes while they had patties that were cooked and ready to be put on buns just sitting on the counter with 3 employees standing in-front (trainees or not they could've had out food ready). Another thing, the app would give wait times that were inaccurate and for rides that weren't even operating. My mom bought 4 season passes and we don't have a desire to come back! read more

Don't waste your time!!! Especially for Fright Fest! The haunted houses are only open for 3 hours Sat and Sundays and the line for ONE haunted house is THREE HOURS long! My family and I were there for 7 hours and were able to ride ONE coaster. Line for Superman was 3.5 hours long. The worst part you ask? Is standing at the front of the line for an hour while watching Fast Pass holders walk through the line with zero wait. It's all about money for this place. Update. It has now been over a week since they said they would fix the additional $60 bucks in charges on the back end to my account and nothing. Well I thought this place could not get any worse, boy was I wrong. Purchased tickets for Oct 8 ( reservation made) imprinted on paper ticket as it says digital passes are not accepted. Arrived and security argued with us we did not have reservations and they wanted the digital copy. This took over 1 hour. During our purchase we bought the food and drink package which includes unlimited drinks and two meals. So we arrived for food. Only one employee for ringing up food 45 min wait to pay. By the time we could use the second food voucher (mind you you can only use it Every 1.5 hours.). Trying to speak to a manager do t bother. This is our family's alternative to Disneyland. Not only is it way closer and WAY less expensive, but you can actually get on the rides most days, and some days, if timed right, there are very little lines. This truly is a great place for families that live anywhere near vallejo. We live in Sonoma, about a 40 min drive away. Two years ago, we took a trip to Disneyland, spent about $3500 for a total of 3 days in the park. It was a holiday weekend and so the KIDS rides were about a 30-40 min wait, and the adult rides were totally impossible to get on, and the entire park was jammed, and you could barely navigate the park by foot. In addition, we caught a flu bug there and spent the last day throwing up. Granted, the sickness wasn't on Disneyland, but almost the entire experience was crowded and unpleasant. By comparison, at six flags discovery kingdom we bought season passes, with meals and snacks on every visit included, and with parking included, and it only cost $500 FOR A FAMILY OF 5! And we can go everyday the park is open if we so desired! SO MUCH BETTER! We go whenever we have a free day, and we can go every day the park is open, and it never costs anything extra, unless we buy something else. Six flags discovery kingdom has REALLY stepped up the park on the last few years too, they keep adding coasters and attractions. The difference between now and ten years ago is gigantic. They probably have 6 or more new major rides since then. There are LOTS of rides for toddlers, which is great because my kids a are so young still. And my now seven year old is tall enough for all but about 5 of their very largest rides! She loves it! There is so much to do! You have to get in the food lines early though, cuz they can get long, and they do need more soda filling stations for the season long refillable sodas that we purchased, but for the most part these guys have made a truly fun and safe place for families to spend time together. We went there on Saturday afternoon and the disorganization was evident before we even parked. Their main lot was full and they were redirecting traffic to the alternate lot by the fairgrounds. Instead of having signs directing cars to the alternate lots on the main road, the let the cars into the main gate, then had it blocked off, and then from there were directing them to the alternate lot across the street. Very messy and generated a ton of unnecessary traffic. When we finally got there, we waited over 40 minutes just to get into the park. They were incredibly inefficient with how they were letting people into the venue. Some people had forgotten to bring their reservations, so the staff ended holding up the line repeatedly for that. Very disorganized. (Ok, so reservations are required, but can't they link them to your pass, so people don't have to show a separate document? And if you can't find your reservation, go over there so someone else can help you with it, instead of blocking the entire line for that!!) Oh, and for new members/pass holders, it looked like the people managing the line were taking pictures of the guests to put on their badges, again slowing down everything. (Couldn't that be done somewhere else? ) Their 'Customer (No) Service' is exceptionally awful. We observed an interaction with a guest where the guest had gone to the outside customer service station only to be redirected to the station inside the park. She was the last person in line (they had closed the station), and then she was told that they could not help her because they were already closed. (She had been waiting in line and got in before they closed the building to visitor access) The insisted that she had to go back to the other station. We saw some other interactions which were just as amazingly poor. I'm not even going to mention my personal interactions with them, both over email and in person. Their staff is fairly friendly, but useless and incompetent. (It might be due to bad company policies?) They should take their cues from Disneyland, where the customer service there is usually exceptional. We did not order any food, but if we had wanted to, the lines for pretty much anything there were extremely long. They definitely do not know how to process transactions quickly. Their app is useful to see what the status of the rides are, and what shows there are, but it is not always accurate, and it's a bit of a mess. The park is just ok. Be prepared for a lot of the rides/exhibits to be closed. It can be a fun experience once you are able to actually get into the park. read more

It's been a long minute since I've been to Discovery Kingdom...I mean, last time I went, it was still called Marine World! Parking: Lot seemed to fill up a lot faster than I recall. Many patrons were being re-directed to the fairground parking across the street. We were lucky to snag one of the last spots in the main lot...so get there early! They do offer a shuttle, but it you miss it, you'll beat the next one for sure just by walking....and if you make it, you'll soon find out that it doesn't really get you THAT much closer. Rides: It was great to see that the park still had the classic thrill rides in Kong & Medusa. But it was also cool that they had created a new section with superhero themed coasters. I highly recommend Batman and Superman Ultimate Flight for the major thrill seekers! In terms of closed rides, we luckily didn't run into many - the major one was The Flash (formerly V2) and the white water rafting one (it opened later in the day though). Our longest wait was for Joker (1 hour 10 minutes) because they decided to only run 1 car, otherwise most of the waits were between 10 minutes and 40 minutes - not bad. Definitely bring a cap and extra sunscreen with you though...shade is a HUGE premium. Food: There are definitely some hidden gems in the park now. I had totally come to terms with being ripped off for the day, but ended up finding myself pleasantly surprised with my lunch choice. Philly steak fries for $9 yielded a tray of fries topped generously with thin sliced steak, caramelized onions, and a provo cheese sauce. I honestly recommend this. Dinner wasn't quite as lucky though. We settled for Chop Six after realizing their entree was the best value in the main eating concourse (1 scoop of noodles, 1 scoop rice, AND 1 entree was the SAME PRICE as 1 SLICE of pizza - RIDICULOUS). For drinks, I highly recommend the all day refill bottle - just share it among your group instead of buying multiple bottles. Sure, you'll have to refill it more, but at the end of the day, it'll more than pay for itself! Shows: We didn't make it for any shows, which I was a little bummed about. Customer Service: Overall, it was good. Staff tried to clean off common eating areas as frequently as they could and I didn't see much trash around the park. Service for food was definitely on the slower side but nothing worth kicking, crying, and screaming about. Honestly, the one lady at I watched berating 7 teenagers at the funnel cake shop ought to be ashamed of herself. She was just letting the kids have it just to flex her ego...but it was embarrassing. The worst part was that you could tell that these kids were just working a summer job...probably their first jobs...and they were just defeated by this lady yelling at them for being "slow" and "giving poor customer service". Price/Tickets: If I had to pay, I would probably have balked at the invite...but luckily we were invited as season ticket holder +1's. Awful awful time here today. Just awful business practice. Just straight scamming people right now, maybe to make up for lost money during covid? We were there today for 5 hours and we able to ride TWO RIDES!!! And stand in one very slow food line where we paid $80 FOR 4 CORNDOGS AND 2 SODAS!!!!!! Not kidding. A SINGLE corn dog comes with a bag of chips (big woop) is FIFTEEN DOLLARS! But very hungry and irritated, we just just took the spanking and bought them. Many food places are closed so we just took the shortest line out of like the only 3 or 4 open places in the food court and still waited sooooo long. Many shops, food places and attractions were closed. The park was just insanely packed today, there was zero crowd/population control. So they're just raking in the money while people wait around 1.5 to 2 hours for a rollercoasters and long waits for the minimal food offered. They don't even have fresh cotton candy (sad face) just the old stuff in tubs. Not the same. The second ride we waited in line for was an older one, the Twix boomerang rollercoaster. We hoped since it's an old one we'd have better luck on wait time. And of course it broke down when we had only one more ride duration to go. Sorry to say but this theme park is terrible. I spent and entire day here and only had the opportunity to try 4 rides. Why? Because the entire park was beyond crowded and it was nearly impossible to do anything without waiting an excessive amount of time. 30 minutes to park, 30 minutes to walk to the entrance, 30 minutes to go through security and enter the park, 30 minutes to buy a bottle of water, 1 hour to order food and worst of all 1+ hours to ride anything at all. The whole park was just jam packed. There were humans in every direction. I was so shocked at the number of visitors -- it was surprising especially because you have to make a reservation in order to enter. Six flags should really put a cap on the number of people they allow. My visit really sucked even though I tried to make the best of it. It was really hard to stay patient. So many rides were closed or shut down while we waiting in line. The lines were atrociously long. Many people got away with cutting and their was no one stopping them. In addition, every single dining establishment in the entire park had never ending lines the ENTIRE day. It would have taken a long time to leave the park and eat elsewhere, so we finally decided to pick a place and just wait. We waited and waited and waited along with everyone else. Don't wait until you are famished to eat or else you will become grumpy like me. The whole time I was watching the employees with disdain. I was truly disappointed. The workers moved like turtles. Six Flags has gone downhill. Do NOT waste your time or money here. Limited number of rides open which caused long lines for everything. 85 minutes as the average wait time. They had less than half of the thrill rides operating during the first half of the day Towards the end of the day, KONG and the Big swings finally opened. I was in line for the JOKER once in the early afternoon and evening. After waiting in line for approximately half an hour, the ride broke down. The ride broke down twice on me. We were given the option to wait in line or leave and try another ride. What a joke, there were no other rides running! Note that water rides are not running. Those would have been fun as we are in the middle of summer. If you want to see for yourself, just download the app and you can see what rides are closed. Food lines were ridiculously long as well. Even if you pre-order online, wait times for food were just as long as waiting in line. Wait times are anywhere from half an hour to 1 and a half hours for food. This was pretty much throughout the entire day. Quality of food is sub par and Overpriced! The employees need better training and the whole ordering system needs to be overhauled. One thing I really did like was the shaded parking structures with solar panels! This gets 5 STARS! We used to have season passes in the past and it was great. Rides were open and wait times were reasonable - 40 minutes for all thrill rides. Food was actually decent back in the day. I get the ecomonics of amusement parks, but this one is less attractive than, say, Great America, which is more sprawling and where at least you can sit comfortably and avoid the sun. L-A-M-E. Most of the coasters were closed except for Medusa so we rode that twice. Unfortunately, on the 2nd attempt there was a 30 minute mechanical delay so that kinda sucked too. At least we weren't among the poor saps stranded on the tracks for most of that time. The food options were severely limited and super-expensive ($38 for 2 corn dogs & a coke...I kid you not). Also, the overall layout of the park doesn't make any sense at all. The various attractions are just kind of scattered around, difficult to navigate, lots of dead ends (the paper map was useless), and everything is kind of tired and drab. Speaking of tired and drab, the poor-ass penguins languishing in the heat of their nasty little enclosure were totally tragic and heartbreaking. They should be released to some kind of sanctuary immediately. Not sure if the park is still recovering from the impact of COVID, so this review might be too harsh in light of all that, but if they're going to charge $116 for 2 people (including parking but before the $38 corn dogs) the park should actually be open and functioning. We got there shortly after opening at 10:45am and left at 1:30pm because there was just nothing else to do. read more

My son visited on a Saturday night in October. Some of the lines for rides were 1-2 hours! They got to do 3 rides before closing. The lines for food exceeded 1 hour because they only had 1 cashier at each restaurant. A hamburger and drink cost $38. Clearly 6 flags does not care about the customer experience. When I asked an employee an estimate of when The Joker would open, he simply shook his head and that was it. Excuse me? There was also an issue with Medusa where my boyfriend and I were told to get into car 4 even though the car had signs saying "do not enter." I had to chase down an employee before he realized there was a mistake. We ended up being placed in the fast pass area so we could get on the ride when the next car arrived. Yet another employee completely forgot we were there and we had to wait TWO more turns before we could get onto the ride. Absolutely ridiculous. - There should be mics in the booths so that visitors can actually here the employees speak because it was basically impossible to understand anything they were saying. - The parking situation is incredibly confusing. There is only 1 person further down answering questions to people looking for the preferred parking because there is no signage. The employees at the ticket booth were acting like they were on break or something when I pulled up and didn't even tell me in what direction I should go. I'm a member and will be coming again but only because of the rides and fun shows. The service definitely knocks the experience down a bit. read more

The line to get in (even after buying a ticket online) took at least an hour. The food at the sports bar was less than mediocre; you get a half cold burger, and soggy fries for $15. Not to mention it took about 20 minutes to get the food, after spending 30 in line. It seemed like a large number of rides were closed (at least three). At least I didn't throw up! However! The animal keepers were super knowledgeable about the animals, and definitely made good conversation. Every single one that we talked to seemed to at least have a genuine interest in the critters. Avoid this place at all costs. Poorly understaffed. Insane wait times for rides. 1hr plus wait times for food. Animal shows were ok, even the animals don't want to be there. Huge disappointment of a park. No crowd control whatsoever, wear a mask even if your vaxxed. read more

DONT GO!! It's not worth the $20+parking. They could have done so much more even with COVID, The animals are bored and minimal. I may have paid $10 but probably wouldn't have driven 2 hours. If they added more, I would be willing to pay more. For now, skip it!! read more
