Hit or miss. Sometimes they don't dim the lights very much because the senior citizens that often go to it feel unsafe. It's always annoying when they do that because the screen is washed out and you can see everything in the cinema. If a few people complain they will lower the lights to a normal level but then 20 minutes of the movie have gone by. Has happened to me multiple times. read more

Between this theater and the one in Mission Valley, I can't imagine seeing a first run movie anywhere else. I can save a two to three dollars a ticket, a buck or two on concessions, and, if I'm inclined, have a beer or a glass of wine. Six Forks is clean, well maintained for an older theater, and the seating, while not stadium style, is still comfortable. I've yet to see a movie here where the theater has been full, so maybe that's why I haven't missed the stadium seating. The employees have all been polite and quick, so there's been no "a-ha" moment from that perspective. They also do a pretty good job of cleaning up the theater in-between movie showings and keeping the garbage cans empty so there isn't any over-spill onto the floor. It's behind a shopping center, off the beaten path, but that makes getting in and out of the lot a little easier than the nightmare of say **north hills** parking which is pretty good for making my head spin. Six Forks is a good alternate. If you're feeling adventurous, and are burned out on the megaplex madness, you might find respite here. read more

Recently checked out a flick at 6 Forks Theater based on location and Cinematic offerings. First time seeing a movie at the aforementioned so I did not know what to expect. It is definitely an older Theater and lacks in the modern perks like comfortable seats but it has its own charm. We went to a 945 show, Atomic Blonde, and there was only 4 people in attendance. The entire place including the RR's were immaculately clean and the Staff of 2 was friendly. It is kind of off the beaten path, rather antiquated, but not a bad choice to see a movie. read more

This hidden gem off of Six Forks Road and Forum Drive is now on many peoples radar as we witnessed on Saturday afternoon when we went to a matinee. An additional cashier had to be added because the line got to be very long. But happily they added another cashier and we got into the theater quickly. Let me say this is my favorite movie theater. The prices for movies, candies, beer and wine are all very reasonable, actually downright cheap. The theaters (they have five) are all very comfortable and clean, they are not stadium seating, but I've never had a problem seeing the screen or having a giant sit in front of me. The restrooms are also clean. The selection of beers on tap and wines are also plentiful, and the popcorn does not break the bank. If you get a chance to go to this theater, give it a try. It still remains a gem for me, although not as hidden as it used to be. read more

This is my absolute favorite movie theater in the Triangle. Yes, it's small and old school- that's what I like about it! It's never overly crowded and there are only 6 theaters in the building so showtimes are more select. No stadium seating but tickets and concessions are a few bucks cheaper than the newer theaters. On to the popcorn... oh the popcorn! Hot, delicious and buttered to perfection! I hate that all of the newer theaters have the DIY butter stations- makes for bad distribution. Six Forks still butters your popcorn bucket for you... in layers... with love. Another fabulous thing about this theater is that they sell beer and wine (cheaper than popcorn might I add)! If I remember correctly a 16oz draft is $4 (24oz $6???). There are a few cocktail tables to stand at in the small lobby area as well as some benches. I don't need all the fancy bells & whistles that most movie theaters are amped up with today so Six Forks is a definite 5 stars for me! Its affordable, convenient & the staff is always friendly. It's my go-to place to catch a flick plus there's no worrying about running into any of the "cool kids" from school years past (they're all over at North Hills buttering their own popcorn). I feel like this is one of the best kept secrets in town and this is where I like to go to the movies. It doesn't have stadium seating or show movies in 3-D, but the prices are cheaper for both admission and concessions. It's hardly crowded there. Great for when you want to watch a certain teenage vampire-werewolf love triangle movie without being seen by anyone you know and you want to see it with some room to breath. It's a great place to bring the kids to see a movie. They have fairly priced kids popcorn deals. They even serve wine if you need a little alcohol to get through that 3rd movie with singing rodents. read more

Only drawback is no stadium seating, which is not a problem unless rude people wait until the movie has started to sit right in front of you (I'm vertically challenged, so it can be a problem for me and of course it happened to me today). But it's like the old days...you can always move, and it's not the theater's fault that rude people exist. read more

We decided to go to this cinema to see The Great Gatsby. Parking was a breeze, there is a huge lot and we found a spot right away. Ticket prices were reasonable and audio and visual quality were good. I was surprised that the climate control was not set to be cooler for a full house for a mid-spring showing, my cousin and I were both very warm by the end of the movie. There is no stadium seating and my back started to hurt 3/4 of the way through the movie, but I had a great view the entire time. Not the best or the worst theater in Raleigh. Most of the theaters here are "intimate," and they're of the traditional, non-stadium style. So you have to choose your seats carefully and be conscious of other patrons near you. But it's one of my favorite theaters in the area. Ticket prices are below the average price paid in other theaters, and the concessions are $1-$3 less per item than other theaters. They sell beer in the lobby, and $6 will get you a 24oz. beer -- darn good for any place, let alone the cinema. What I love about this place is that it is cared for. The sound system and seats appear new, and I've never seen it dirty. The staff has always been friendly. It's tucked away just enough that it doesn't get as much business as some of the larger theaters, which is also a huge plus in my book. It's a perfect place to catch a flick on an opening weekend. There are many theaters. However, despite having stadium seating and state-of-the-art digital projections, they don't have Icee machines. This one has an Icee machine. They also have refills for $0.75. Aside from the the Icee machine the best thing about this theater is what it isn't. It is not a national chain- it is locally owned. Yeah- no stadium seating. It does have a Dobly sound system and the best concession prices of any theater around. Parking is at the front door and you never have to hunt for a space. It is a neighborhood theatre. read more

This used to be a great place to go but the use of Batman The Lego Movie as a babysitting facility for a toddler and it's family proved to be disrespectfully distracting. Parents actually let their toddler scream and run up and down the aisles. Lack of handicap parking (I am in a cast & had to park 12 cars deep, not fun), 5 spaces total for the whole lot was not convenient at all. I'll be calling the management and the DOT to verify if either of these are acceptable practices. Cinemark Raleigh Grande will be our go-to theater from now on. read more

One of my favorite things about this theater is that it does NOT have stadium seating. Walking is difficult so it's nice to have somewhere I can see a movie without being 5 feet from the screen. It's also close to home. Truly a neighborhood theater. Charlotte (the older lady) is a gem! Most of the employees are wonderful also. Popcorn is the best in town as are the prices. By far my favorite theater. Next favorite is one their sister cinemas, Colony which shows independent movies (2 theaters). If I could change one thing about Six Forks, it would be dedicating one even two theaters to independents. This theater is the definition of "hidden gem." Tucked away behind a strip mall, reasonably priced, friendly staff, with good crowds - this has become my "go-to" movie theater. It doesn't have the stadium seating of the large cineplexes, but those tend lack the local feel this offers. Concessions are cheap for a movie theater, though the cups only go up to a 32oz. That's about the size of a medium at one of the national chains, for reference. I'm not complaining, but I thought I'd point it out. If you're looking for an alternative to the big boys, I highly recommend Six Forks Cinema. It's a welcome throwback to the good old days. read more

I was so happy to find these theater and have it be so close to where we live...it truly is a hidden gem. They serve alcohol and while I have yet to partake, it will be a nice addition to a movie date night when I get the chance to do that with the husband. The prices are so much more doable than a big chain theater. A matinee for myself and two kids with popcorn and drinks for all was 35$. You can not beat that price. Service is always friendly, theaters and bathrooms are always clean. They always have something recent in rotation and while there is not stadium seating, I have never had issues. Summertime they do offer older kid friendly movies, which is a nice alternative when the weather gets unbearable. read more

We had plans with another couple and went to a bigger, 'fancier' theater on Saturday night. We were at the box office at 6: 40 for a 7:15 movie and it was sold out. 5 other movies we would have seen were either sold out, only 1st row or scattered seats. We went to this theater and we got in right when The Post was starting. Since the lights were out we couldn't see well and went to the side. To our surprise there were only 3 seats - not a big deal but shows that the theatre was fairly small. The sound was great, the screen clear and the temperature was perfect. I was worried because it was very cold out I even brought a blanket. I went to the bathroom in between and the bathrooms were extremely clean and there were several stalls. The place was well decorated like an old fashioned theatre but modernized. I noticed they had wine and the popcorn was so much cheaper than the other theatre. I will most definitely go to this theatre next time instead of fighting huge crowds. I guess because it is not a big chain they didn't have the usual 15 minutes of shorts before the movie. We love going here and do so about once a week. They have first run movies including new releases, along with a few "older" movies. Love the popcorn and the Coke Icy is a MUST!!!!!!!!! The staff is great and really helpful. Thank God not a hangout for the unruly teens you see at other theaters. Mostly family-oriented clientele. This place is a hidden gem! The prices rock, it's has old school style seating, and the place is never elbow to elbow. This is my favorite theater in town! It's convenient and the staff is always super great. Once I made the mistake of buying tickets for the wrong night online, I called the cinema and spoke with someone and he pulled the tickets from my online order, made a note and the tickets were there behind the counter on the correct night for me to see the movie. Great customer service! This place is great! The popcorn is yummy, they sell alcohol, and there is always a parking place. It's convenient to all of North Raleigh. The place doesn't look like much, so don't expect stadium seating or a posh interior, but it is always clean and the refreshments are always fresh. The management absolutely refuses to walk thru the theater and tell people to turn off their cellphones; I have complained numerous time to the manager on call and he does Nothing to nix cell phone texting or loud talking. Another minus for this theater is that the owner Refuses to put in 3D projection. This theater will cater to an older crowd since there is a retirement community within walking distance. They will also cater to the younger crowd with numerous G movies and will leave them on forever. They won't show many R pictures unfortunately. If you are a movie goer, go elsewhere. read more

The best popcorn! We love this little local theater. It's kind of old style, no stadium type seating, but who cares when the popcorn is that good, LOL. You can also order beer or wine if you want to. The staff is always happy so someone must treat them right. It's also one of the cleaner theaters in the area. They have all the current movie selections and even though the theaters are not state of the art, the sound is good and (and this is important to us) it's not overrun with noisy teens and preteens. This theater has become my go-to place to see a movie. Personally, I don't really care about having stadium seating if I can save a few dollars on the price of a normally expensive movie ticket by going here. This theater is significantly cheaper than any of my previous movie watching spots like North Hills, Crossroads and Brier Creek. It is also a locally-owned theater and it is never really too crowded, which is really nice. It's tucked away in the back of a shopping center in North Raleigh, but it's not too difficult to find. Even going here on for a late afternoon matinee of the Hunger Games last Friday, the theater was only about half-full. I'm not sure how crowded their midnight premieres are since I've never been there for one. The price of a matinee ticket is $6 and I believe the most expensive adult ticket is $8 at night and just $6.50 for a student ticket. The concessions are considerably cheaper here too as far as sodas and popcorn, and they also serve beer at $5 for a small and $6 for a large (with some good choices at this price as well, including Sierra Nevada and Sweetwater). The theater only has six screens, so the selection of movies is slightly smaller than some of the bigger theatres in Raleigh, but this is a great spot to see a movie if you want to save money and avoid crowds! read more
