We were lucky to have Brenden as our project manager. He scheduled and coordinated all the work, ensured every little detail was taken care of, communicated with us clearly and effectively, and immediately rectified any minor issues that came up. He was also incredibly patient with us. We were so happy with how the work was progressing that we added additional work to the scope, and he accommodated it without hesitation and without it affecting our promised timeline. Our carpenters, Corey and Miguel, worked on various framing repairs including trims, painting, removing old carpet, installing new light fixtures, and more, all done efficiently and always with a positive attitude. I would come by intermittently to grab things from the house and always saw them buzzing away, while also being super attentive to our needs and any little details I brought up. Their work was outstanding quality. The vendor PCRS worked with for the laminate installation also did an incredible job. We are beyond thrilled with how everything turned out! The icing on the cake was that they finished right on schedule, and we were able to move back in smoothly just a few days before hosting out-of-town guests in what felt like a brand new home. Woodland Construction Group exceeded our expectations from start to finish. The space originally had an open niche next to the oven and microwave, and we wanted a floor to ceiling pantry that looked like it had been installed with the original kitchen. Woodland Construction Group custom built and installed a beautiful pantry cabinet, and the match to our existing cabinetry is absolutely perfect. The color, style, trim work, and finish blend seamlessly with the rest of the kitchen. You truly cannot tell it was added after the home was built. What makes this cabinet even better is the functionality. They incorporated custom pull out drawers and installed electrical outlets inside the cabinet, allowing us to create a hidden coffee bar. We can keep our coffee maker, blender, and other small appliances tucked away behind closed doors while still having easy access to everything. I had to refinish the stain on the cedar siding on my house and was having difficulty finding a…read morepainter / stainer to do the job. I decided I would have to do it myself. But I did not want to work from ladders up to about 35 feet in the air. I contacted Scaffold Erectors to have scaffolding installed. It was the best decision that I made during the project. Manager Steve is a good man, who was patient in helping me decide among the options. He and his crew of about six strong hardworking men arrived with a lot of metal and planks on trucks. It was amazing to watch them put all of those pieces together up the sides of the house. At first Steve thought that he would have to drill holes into the sides of the house to hold the scaffolding. But he avoided that by creating buttresses of scaffolding to hold it upright. It is really an artistic skill to be able to create the scaffolding. I had not used scaffolding before, but it was fairly easy to learn how to do it safely. It makes the work so much easier, and better, to be able to safely climb up to work on any area of the house from a few feet away. After a couple of weeks I began to feel stronger from going up and down the scaffolding so often. When Steve and his crew returned to take down the scaffolding they were all wearing masks in this time of the Covid virus pandemic. Scaffold Erectors did a great job for me. We hired Dan for a complete remodel of an old farmhouse. The house only had a few walls and a lot…read moreof problems - it was a big project. We found Dan through word of mouth within Portland's old home community (my husband managed the antiques and vintage department at Rejuvenation). He was easy going and likable during the bidding process. We were quickly disappointed with his performance as a general contractor, a carpenter, his subcontractors and his communication. Of note, this is our third complete home remodel but our first time using a general contractor. We are very aware of the challenges of old home remodels. We used a bank construction loan, which requires a little bit of computer savvy. Dan definitely struggled with the process at each step. Dan gave a completion date of three months. We fired him at the seven months with many large projects not even scheduled. We repeatedly expressed our frustration but he acted surprised with each conversation. Ron, the main person working at our house, rarely came to work before 10am and was always gone before 5pm. There were many days no one was working. Dan and Ron took multiple days off to go skiing, even after the completion date. Dan took 3 extended vacations during our time together with little or no notice to us. Dan and Ron's carpentry skills look good from a distance, but... Most of the trim work dose not sit flush to the drywall. There are visible gaps between most of the spindles and railing. They used a grey filler for the nail holes so now it looks like nail heads. We used the original doors, but a couple don't close after install - to which Dan says is our fault for using the old doors. This is the opposite of his slogan "in with the old, out with the new". He did not communicate a problem with the doors until we asked why the doors were not functional. Dan and Ron installed the finish trim before it was stained, which the painter was very frustrated about. This resulted in horrible overspray and repainting of all the rooms. The painter later told us that it was the third time he'd seen Dan fired. The drywall did not get close enough to the lighting fixtures. There are still holes around the ceiling fixtures. Again, he said it was the antique lighting even though we were clear that the old lights needed smaller openings. There were four new windows included in our contract that was signed in October. Dan did not order the windows until January and wanted to charge us the new years pricing even though it was his delay. The window he personally installed does not operate correctly and he cut through and damaged the exterior trim. He removed the downspout for install and would not reassemble it. The bedroom window was ordered to match the existing old windows - it's the wrong size and he doesn't understand the problem and refused to reorder the correct size. His siding subcontractor installed the other two windows. When I expressed surprise that they were done in a single day, they joked that it would have taken Dan and Ron a month to do it. His plumber didn't cap the sewer line so we ended up with raw sewage in our basement. He said this was not his doing but was unable to provide proof that a test had ever been completed. During CCB mediation he finally agreed to pay for the hazardous clean up. Construction debris/trash rarely made it into the dumpster. Dan was rarely on site to check the work of his subs. He never did walk throughs with us as projects were completed. We even asked for this at the end, but he still was unable to identify any problems with the work. We had a contentious parting and even though we've asked to never speak again after we initiated a formal complaint, Dan continues to communicate with us. He refuses to take ownership for any of these errors - either for his own work/communication or that of his subs. Obviously, we can not recommend Dan for any project, small or large.
