It took them that long plus to get people situated. Should have been my first red flag. Finally met with an agent and he was only interested in selling me an upgrade on my rental choice. He NEVER went over my agreement and I blindly signed it only to later find out the dates had been tampered with. When I returned the vehicle, they charged me an additional day (because the dates had been tampered with, as I mentioned.) Upon returning the car, I signed a black phone screen with no explanation. This is the worst rental car company I have ever encountered. I rented a car from them which I picked up at Dulles airport. When I returned the car, the rental agent, whose name on his tag was "THE ASIF" bent down toward the front bumper, ran something across the bumper, stood up and then claimed the bumper had a scratch. I looked at where the claimed the scratch was. There was no scratch. He aggressively said "What do you have to say about this?" I replied "I didn't hit anything." A day later I get an email that said there was a 10 cm scratch "down to the primer" on the bumper. The picture showed what looked like a pen mark, perfectly horizontal in a recessed area of the bumper. The only way that could happen was if someone scratched the car intentionally. I filled out their form. I stated I did not hit anything and didn't even park in a lot that had curbs. I did not damage this car. Their response was the car was in your possession so you are responsible. I believe the agent either scratched it or used his pen to put a mark on it to make it look damaged. They then billed me over $764.00. This company is running scam. Do NOT rent from SIXT. read more

INCOMPETENT AT BEST. Be sure to carefully inspect your and photograph EVERY bit of damage on it. Got gouged 800 for a day for a rental which had previous damage. I told the check out service attendant who said don't worry about it. I took pictures anyway. The employee moral is horrible. Paid for extra insurance and had no incidents during the rental. Next day we get an email saying damages were found on the car and they opened an investigation. The email says to fill out a web form which gives NO option for previous damages. All the options are incriminating. Called an agent, who forwarded me to a supervisor who kept shoving their policy in my face. She made it sound like it was my job to force the attendant to walk around the car and not damages, and then reissue a re tal agreement. I said, how is that my job? You should have marked the damages whenever they were made. They will do nothing but wave agreements in your face and send self incriminating form to you. TAKE PICTURES OF ALL DAMAGE TONYOUR RENTAL BEFORE LEAVING. Apparently everything is the renters job no matter how much the gouge you or fail to fulfill their own responsibilities. Within 50 miles of driving my rental, the maintenance required light appeared. The windshield sticker said the last oil change was at 15,000 miles...the car had 25,000 miles at pick up. I wondering if the car has had an oil change within the 10,000 mile gap. Also what was the actual maintenance required on the vehicle. This company is a scam. Do not rent form them. I rented a car online and then went to pick it up. They asked for an additional $500 deposit, which was not indicated online at the time of reservation. However, I agreed and offered my debit card for the deposit and then the representative - Ryan and his Manager Todd, said thay they can't take Debit Cards for deposits. Since there was no other option, they said they would cancel and do a full refund. However, Todd - the manager, lied and charged me for 3 days. I was only renting for 4 days. So I checked the Terms and conditions online, which clearly state they can take debit cards for deposits. This company should fire their employees that scam people out of ther money, because they don't know the terms and conditions of the company and try to cheat people. Yep, please believe all of the horrible reviews they are 100% true. Here's my horror story- picked up a car from Dulles Airport location on 12/22/21. As soon as I started the vehicle it signaled "Oil Change Needed." I immediately returned to the front desk and spoke with the lady who initially assisted me with the rental. She claimed the car was like new with only 4k miles and the vehicle did not require an oil change as it was just a 5k warning. It was clear She did not want to exchange the vehicle in order resolve the issue. Stupid me..believed her dumb excuse and decided to leave with the vehicle knowing I had an 1,100 miles one-way trip ahead of me for the holidays. As I arrived in Atlanta the vehicle indicator switched from "Oil change Needed " to Oil Change REQUIRED!! I called Sixth 1-800 number explained the situation and was advised to return the car to the nearest location in Atlanta and pick up a another rental. I diverted from my trip 2hrs to Atlanta Airport and swapped vehicles. This time the vehicle was "newer" GMC with 28k miles- ONE problem is reaked of cigarette smoke!!! Horrible smell... with my 2 kids, ages 11 and 2 years old.. I was so pissed I continued my drive to my destination another 300 miles away. Now, on the way back to Virginia approximately 300 miles out from my residence GUESS what.... You're right! "Oil Change REQUIRED." I noted the standard oil change sticker in the windshield stated oil change due on 12/31/21 @ 16k miles!!!! They knowingly rented me a vehicle that required an oil change over 12k miles OVERDUE!!!! We had the worst experience renting from Sixt at IAD (Washington Dulles Airport). We reserved our car using Expedia on the 21st of Nov for pick up on the 25th of Dec. We arrived in to the Sixt only to realize they did not have our car (Chrysler Pacifica) available. They offered to give us a different car (Chevy Tahoe) which we took. They said the Chevy Tahoe would cost us less than the Pacifica so we had a credit. However, since we reserved the car using a 3rd party (Expedia), they could not issue us any credit. Instead they offered us a full tank of prepaid gas - fair enough. We still had some credit left which we just let go of. We returned the car on the 29th of Dec. expecting with were all done. However, a day later we see they charged my credit card $116.20. Which was not a valid charge given the car had been paid in full at time of rental and there were no outstanding charges. I called their customer service line where I had to hold for almost 35 min before a live person came online. He created a complaint tkt and now asked me to call back again tomorrow to see what the outcome of my claim is. Which means another 30 to 45 min gone. Nice vehicles in good condition. However, it is hard to find words for how difficult and frustrating this company is to deal with. The phone agents seldom seem to understand issues. They repeatedly try to find ways not to honor booked rates (with confirmation numbers). They will tell you there are no vehicles, then a supervisor will tell you they have plenty vehicles. Nearly every phone interaction (have rented 15+ times from Dulles, VA) takes 40+ minutes and seldom fully resolves even simple issues in one call, or without involving an elusive supervisor. Regularly you are told one thing by an agent, then on the next call they tell you what you were previously told is inaccurate. Started as a great experience for personal and business rentals out of Dulles airport--now we are moving both back to another company based solely on the customer service and business practices of this company. read more

I would cautioned anyone using Sixt as a car rental company to be VERY careful of their rental policies, especially internationally. I rented a car from Sixt in June on 2023 in Lisbon Portugal and during my rental I experienced a flat tire and as with most cars nowadays there was no spare so I had to engage their roadside assistance for help,. Long story short, two months later (August 2023) I received a charge on my card that they still had on file for 700.00 for damages. I know i didn't have any damages when i returned the car so i called the company to inquire . (Side note, Sixt in the USA will not help you, you have to call internationally in the region where you rented the car) but when i finally got in contact with someone who could help, i was told that the charge was for the replacement of a tire that roadside assistance complete. This was an extra 700$ on top of a 2600eu coverage policy I purchased to cover such incidents during my rental. I would never rent or recommend this company to anyone. read more

Last week was my first time renting with SIXT. I've never had a bad experience with renting a car until I rented with SIXT. I WILL NEVER RENT FROM THEM AGAIN. When I arrived to rent the car, the customer service was nice and I inspected the car no issues(few scratches). I drove off the lot and the tire pressure light signaled low. I thought it was due to the cold air so I put air in the tire and drove home. Got up in the morning to go to work air pressure light still on. Went to work and got in the car now it's saying the tire pressure was extremely low. I drove the rental back to SIXT to exchange the car. I immediately walked inside and the same person that help me was Absolutely rude, fill up the car, until then there is nothing we can do. Went to fill it up and brought the car back. I walked around the car with the return salesman and he said everything was fine please sign. I go in to exchange the car and the man did the exchange and was very rude. He told me that I could file with customer service but never gave me a number to call. I got my new rental everything was fine and drop the car off. Now two days after dropping off the first car I got an email saying there was damage to the car. This was surprising when the car literally sat in my garage and sat in a parking lot clear away from cars. Then was driven straight back to the rental place. In addition I walked around the car with the sales man when I returned it and he said everything was fine. Filled in a survey explaining what happened to the car which was basically nothing I didn't do any damage I didn't do anything to the car. Then I get an email today saying they're going to file a claim. I tried to reach out to this company several times got no response, no response an email trying to reach out and when I call now the phone just rings and rings. This is the absolute worst experience I've ever had renting a car and for my first time this will be my last. I still have yet to have anyone reached out to me. read more

We picked up at closing time so we were told when we returned use night drop & so long as vehicle was in lot b4 opening no fees would incur........note to the wise--If u return using after hours key drop word of caution take pic w date/time stamp of car in lot and pic of keys in actual night drop (both before drop in & after). They tried to charge me fees for extra an day & late return, but Bc I was able to prove I returned vehicle on time they waived all extra fees promptly. Smh! Not fully explaining the fees and saying its only $13 more but failing to say $13 a day. Promising discounts and us not receiving them. Admitting their fault and STILL not giving the discount to the customer that they were promised. Making people upgrade to a different car than what they reserved and ripping them off saying there is no other car they can rent to you. Shuttle drivers not even waiting until the person is sitting down to drive off taking off fast making customers almost fall. Never again. Very disappointed. Do not rent from here, there are plenty of other car rental places, go with someone else. They will totally take advantage of you and promise you discounts that they will not give. We went to the Virginia/DC are for 10 days and used this rental car service. The car was clean and the check in and check out to retrieve and return the vehicle was easy and uneventful. However, when we returned the car, the driver of the vehicle was completely unwilling to help even when my husband asked him. He was dismissive and only decided to come off the shuttle when my husband said he would report him and went inside the office. Other than that, my husband had to lift 5 huge and heavy luggage by himself and my daughter's and I handled our heavy duffle bags. My husband is not an older man or anything like that. But, the disregard for customer service and the dismissive and uncaring behavior of the driver was less than appropriate. not sure if we will use this rental car service again. read more

I booked on Booking.com website. I just don't understand how companies like Sixt stay in business and are allowed to promote themselves on Booking.com. I looked at the deal for the price of the car and jumped on it, versus doing my research on the company. After my issue with them that's when I decided to look them up on Tripadvisor.com and yelp. They have an Average 1.5 star rating! I flew 16 hours from Rome, Italy to Washington, DC with plans to drive from there to Virginia Beach. I just wanted to get my car and go. I didn't know that I couldn't use my Debit card. When I explained to the Sixt Rep that I didn't have my credit card with me but I booked with my debit card he said I couldn't use it. I asked to please let me speak to a manager, he got very rude and unprofessional. He flat out told me "no". As I walked away desperate and stuck in Washington, DC, not knowing how I was going to make it to Virginia Beach; I looked back inside their office and the Rep and his female coworker were laughing!!! For me to be charged for the whole 2 weeks is ridiculous. If I was charged for a minimum 4 days would still be frustrating, but acceptable. How can I be charged 2 weeks for a vehicle that I was never in possession of and Sixt have the opportunity to still rent that vehicle out? They have found a way to swindle people, in my opinion. Won't be using Sixt again in the US. I have used them in Australia and they were good but in the US it's a different story. Deceptive practices like a $13 a day toll charge. Why not just add it to the per day vehicle quote so I know it'll cost me $55 a day instead of $42 a day and can choose a different company within my budget? The following were my results: One, Dulles airport is in DC, Second, at the call center there is no way to contact an individual store, Third per the call center there is no 2nd line supervisor to assist with calls regarding locating the phone number for the store. Do not rent from here because it is one of the cheaper rentals. It won't end up being cheaper because they will find an excuse to scam you out of your $$ so you end up paying extra. Got charged $75 for excessive pet hair. I should've taken pictures of the inside of the car. I thought about stopping at the gas station before to vacuum a few hairs but decided against it since they should be vacuuming between renters anyway. The pet hair wasn't excessive, we put a blanket down all over the car. I could've vacuumed it myself in 15 minutes. Such regret, because instead of paying $1 to vacuum myself at gas station they charge me $75 for a frivolous claim of excessive hair that would've been cleaned up with a regular vacuuming session. read more

I rented the car after a 6 hour flight, it was 11pm and raining. no one walked around the car or checked it before it was given to me. when i returned it 1 week later they decided to go over the car with a fine tooth comb, literally taking 15 minutes to finish inspecting my car and another car (who's renter was just as surprised as i was at this ridiculousness). they found a door ding, a very small scratch on the bumper, and tiny scratches on a tire rim. i cannot even imagine that i was responsible for these tiny imperfections, nor would i have noticed them before getting into the car, however 2 weeks later I get an email claiming i owe them $1,200.00 for these damages. i contacted the insurance company i had used for this trip and they are hammering this out. i will not use this company again -- i rent at Washington area airports at least 12 times per year and this is the very first incident i have had like this - and the first time i had tried this company. read more

I rented a car from this company out of the BWI airport. The front desk customer service was very good. However, after that it was not a positive experience. First I pre-paid for gas and I did not realize until I had already left the airport that the tank was only filled 3/4. I tried to reach customer service, but of course it is almost impossible to reach someone without going through a ridiculous merry-go-round of phone trees. in addition, what they consider to be a midsize car is not a midsize car. When I return the vehicle I saw that I was charged for an extra day because I was late, but I was told when I check the vehicle out that I had a 30 minute grace period which I had return the vehicle within a 30 minutes. Of course again trying to work out the billing issue and the billing problem just doesn't work out because of the poor telephone customer service. This was first and will be last time I rent from Sixt. Horrible service on return. Facility only open 5:30am to 12:30am. Found that out upon return of vehicle. Would've been nice to be informed of that when the car was rented. Place was locked up tighter than a drum at 5:30am. Nobody to be found. Add to that the vehicle return lot was blocked and locked so unable to return the vehicle. No after hours return. Dulles International is major airport. It is the US capital international airport. If you can't support 24hr operation, don't play in the big leagues. Finally at 5:45 an employee arrived who rode the 3 customers waiting to the airport. Still no shuttle driver. Even she could not get on the lot. Another customer left keys in vehicle and called an uber to get to terminal to catch their flight. Do not rent from Sixt aft IAD. Worst customer service ever, I've been renting cars for 14 yrs and never have a problem; after a I've rented from them I'd reported a bumper damage at return, they come up with a bumper damaged and an unrelated door damage a year later, and then after we agree on a payment plan for the deductible they sent my bill to a collection agency, I would never ever rent from them, there's no seriousness whatsoever. To the sixt guys that try to contact me: you dropped the ball again with me and for the last time, I got a better deal from the collection company, I wouldn't be renting ever from you nor I refer you to anyone, even if you're the only company in town, this should have ended one year and a half ago, but your incompetence make this a painful process, the one that had finally ended, but not because you fix it when you have a chance, you won't see me renting from you, ever. read more

I told my husband that this is the first time in my life that I feel compelled to write a positive review for a rental car company online. Who in the world EVER writes a positive review for a car rental agency!? All I can say is WOW, can Sixt PLEASE open a branch at Boston Logan airport??? That rental situation is a SH** SHOW! I assumed it would be worse at Washington Dulles because it is an even larger airport, but instead my experience with Sixt was as smooth and seamless as it could possibly be. The shuttle location at the airport was easy to find and a pick up was there within about 2 minutes. A short trip to to Sixt and then there was only one person in line ahead of me and two customer service agents so I was actually helped very, very quickly (a MIRACLE at a car rental counter!!!!) The woman who helped me was extremely friendly and competent, explained my toll options very clearly, and then handed me my keys and I walked out and easily found my car right outside ready to go -- no hassle! The return after my 5 day rental was as easy as the pick up, again almost instant shuttle service with great friendly staff and I was actually charged the exact amount that I pre-paid with my reservation. I have never heard of this company before this experience and I NEVER want to rent a car from another company again ever! I reserved a car weeks in advance of our trip. Upon landing at the airport, I noticed a voice mail. I listened to it to learn Sixt was completely out of cars and had no other options for me. No assistance was given in helping book elsewhere. I stood in the rental car area with my 7 year old daughter and all our belongings, stranded by Sixt's abysmal customer service. If I could give this place a negative star I really would. I usually don't write reviews but this one just needed to be written. So I booked a car here through Priceline which took my debt card not credit card. I come to pick my car up and they tell me they can't accept my debt card and I need to get my money back from price line( later learn this is a dam lie). Also they left out the $200 deposit funny how that just randomly pops up. Anyways this is where it gets good they double charge me and think I'm just going to forget about my $170 ive already paid for the car that is on my card in there name. I also get told there is no late fee charge upon returning the vehicle. Well guess what I bring the car back Priceline told me my fight is with sixth rental.... funny how they tried to send me the wrong way to just steal my money. Anyways I come back and basically call them out on it and all the sudden they say oh yea we need to return you money but it will take 7-10 business days and the GM has no power to refund that charge. That's total BS in my opinion and I had to fight with them 4 days calling the customer service that never answered to get my money back. They also tried to charge me a late free that I called them out on! This place is a total scam and you really have to watch them!
