My first, and only, experience with Sixt was an unmitigated disaster. Lets just say that the insane amount of time it took for me to get into a car that wasn't the one I was guaranteed was equal to the amount of time it took to get someone to acknowledge that there was a problem. Let's also say that they eventually apologized and agreed to a credit on my next rental from them. What I later found out was that the credit could only be applied to a rental that was not paid in advance. Why? Because they charge substantially more for rentals that are not paid in advance. Not much of a reason to give them a second chance. The nice person who had to explain this to me understood why I was unhappy, and promised a supervisor would get back to me shortly. When that didn't happen, I booked with a competitor and moved on. Several days later, with no phone call or contact of any sort, I received an emailed confirmation from Sixt for a free rental of an electric vehicle. I had no idea if this was real or not, but decided to keep my paid reservation with the other company rather than trust Sixt for free. It just wasn't worth the aggravation. read more

It's too bad I can't give a 0 star review to SIXT car rental at Dulles Airport. The sloth-like representative who grudgingly took ALL my information then said: "There's a problem.. It says there's a security problem. You need to call customer service." After staring at her in disbelief, I asked her if she could tell me the customer service number. As she walked away she tossed a pamphlet on the counter and said: "It's on that." After failing to reach any meaningful robotic phone menu I finally got to the point where I could wait for a human and was promptly disconnected. After being disconnected the third time by SIXT "customer service" I told them to cancel my reservation. I then walked, with all my luggage, a quarter mile to National car rental. I have been a decently happy customer of Sixt as a returning customer but I recently rented a vehicle and have a BOGUS claim of vechile odor and a $250 charge with no proof of odor. I returned the vechile and checked in with no issues from the service agent at the airport (ATL). The charge was levied 3 days after my return. Called customer service 3 times with no real resolution and only the offer of a partial refund. I now have to reach out to my financial institution for a fraud claim. SIXT please fix your customer issues. read more

When I arrived to pick up my car this morning, the agent notified me that I was not allowed to take it outside of my immediate area and suggested I cancel the reservation for a full refund. I told him to go ahead and proceed and he provided me with a ticket number. Later today I was notified via email that my refund was declined. I booked a reservation thru Priceline for a 3 day rental for $120 that was charged to my credit card immediately on Feb 1st. I picked up the car on the 8th and immediately they go and try to sell additional coverage insurance, I explained that the car was covered with under my current policy and also had it cover with the credit car company. After returning the car on Feb 11th like the rental agreement I received a invoice for $193 dollars so I immediately called and they refuse to help me. I explained that I was already charged for the rental thru Priceline and they said that I had to call Priceline. After Calling Priceline they told me that I had to call Sixt because they are the one who charged my credit card again. Am still trying to get the charges reverse because for an rental that I reserve for $120 I been charged over $300 so far with Zero empathy or willingness to get this resolve by either parties. If I could rate this company with zero stars, I would. There were so many issues with my car rental. So many!!! The biggest issue is that they are scammers. Just like every other review on here states, they will charge you with damages that you did not cause. I recommend taking pictures of your vehicle inside and out upon pick-up and drop-off. The first problem occurred upon arrival when they couldn't find one of our reservations (I reserved two cars). Therefore, I had to pay for an additional car in hopes that I could get reimbursed after contacting customer service. Contacting customer service is nearly impossible. You can't get in touch with a human on the phone and you're lucky to get an email returned within a couple weeks. On December 8th I received an email stating I'd get a refund and it should appear in 3-5 days. Well, it's 20 days later and I've had to reach back out. The second issue is that we are being charged with damages that were not there upon drop-off. They never looked over the car with us, yet claim there was damage to the bumper in the amount of $350. I would never and will never rent a vehicle from Sixt again and I strongly recommend you look elsewhere as well. Dee, I appreciate you wanted me to reach out via email to customer service. The cost of insurance was misrepresented to me and was alleged to justify an additional charge of over $1,300. I subsequently rented a car through Hertz out of the same Barcelona location, and that contract shows a charge of $66.14 for insurance covering the same number of days. read more

The car was a disaster when we picked it up and clearly not examined well. Then I noticed a gash in the tire and didn't want to drive on it but there were no tools in the car to replace with the donut. After spending the entire night on the phone they sent someone to put on the donut and told me to go to a specific location to replace the tire the next day and that I would not have to pay for it. They sent me to the WRONG place and had no deal with this tire shop so told me to pay and said they "guaranteed" I would get my money back once I talked to customer service. After 3 emails and calls that are never answered I have heard NOTHING. It is completely ABSURD that you cannot talk to a single human being and that emails are never answered. Because of their mistake I had to pay out of pocket and they are essentially stealing from me by not getting back to me. I will never use Sixt again and will file a formal complaint with the better business bureau read more

Beware the bate and switch! Rented a luxury sedan only to find out that they "didn't have any" of this vehicle type upon my arrival. They offered a larger vehicle at double the price. This is one of the worst car rental companies. I use car rental companies all the time for traveling. Suggesting to stay away from them!! Not only they don't have what they promise or advertise, they are advertising BMW and Mercedes, they don't even have one of them in the parking lot. They will offer you Volvo or Infinity, they don't even offer a close alternative. If you want to go towards west coast, they will charge you $1.00 per mile. Don't get fooled by them telling you it's unlimited miles. Horrible customer service, if you have an issue with your rental they pre-charge you and they will not refund your money even if you don't rent with them. read more

I made an online reservation for Sixt Rental Car at Union Station DC on August 13, 2024. Prepaid for the rental with no problem. I get to the Sixt rental car desk to pick up the car, and with no explanation whatsoever, I'm told by the attendant and the manager that they can not rent to me, and they have no explanation as to why. They claim, their system said that they would not allow me to rent a car from them. They call corporate, and still, no one can tell me why I was suddenly placed on a "blocked" list! I was then told someone from the Sixt Security Team will contact me within three days via email. After a week and a half, I contact Sixt to follow up as to why I was placed on a Blocked list, and still no answers...just given the same old run around from the rep stating I will be contacted by someone from the Security Team in three days. I was not contacted by anybody from Sixt until October 4, 2024!!...only for them to say it was a website glitch, and then give me seven days to use a 10% discount on then the next rental. In the mean time, I was over 3 hours late for work the day I made the reservation for. I had to immediately call around, hop on the subway to another rental car company to get a vehicle and to go to work, causing a huge set back in the things I needed to get done, not just that day, but for that week! This is not the first time I had an issue with Sixt Rental Car. Another issued occurred approximately a month prior, due to another website glitch verifying my driver's license! I will say the local staff at Union Station was kind an courteous, but Sixt Rental Car policies, corporate customer service, and "technical issues" are terrible! read more

We reserved a car online for use in Minneapolis. Sixt's rates were better than most other companies. The car was nice, very comfortable. Check-out and check-in went smoothly, and the staff were courteous and very helpful. We were charged the same amount as quoted in our reservation; there were no add-on charges. I'm glad I didn't read the Yelp reviews before I made the reservation, as they would have steered me away from using them. Don't know why other people had such bad experiences. We don't rent cars very often. One thing that was different with Sixt compared to other companies we've used is that other companies have you inspect the car and sign off on the condition of it, and when you return the car they inspect it for any defects. Sixt didn't do that, but we didn't have any issues (hopefully they won't do so later). I did take photos of the car before we turned it in, just in case. read more

Like others, I should have heeded the red flags at time of rental. Slow poor service with multiple customers having problems and complaints around me. At return they pulled the same scam with the phone signature and then only after getting the signature saying there was a problem with the car. They claim I bent the rim. Completely unethical company. extorted damage charges from me that I did not cause and could not address because they failed to give me a full pre rental damage report before leaving the property. charges for repair inflated, add-on's like value depreciation and admin fees added, but worst off they refused to give me a claims manager (in authority) name and direct contact to deal with. They are horrible! I booked a car with them for our travel in the Netherlands. I booked it through Kayak. At the time of check out I made sure to read their cancellation policy because I'm traveling on visa and I'm yet to receive it. So I wanted to make sure that I'll be able to cancel if I have to. It clearly said that if I cancel prior to the start date of contract, I'll be fully refunded. I made the reservation but On the same day within less than 30 mins of making the reservation, I decided that I wanted to change into a manual car which would be cheaper. So I reached out to request to change the car. They said that's not possible. Then I asked to cancel and rebook. That's when they said that I'll have to pay a penalty of €244. They cited a rental policy. When I clicked on it, even their own policy said $100 penalty for cancellation and the rest will be refunded. When I asked about the inconsistency, the sent me another cancellation policy saying the first one was for the US only and this one is for Netherlands. So they cited three different policies. A different one at the time of reservation. Then two different ones when I was trying to cancel. Today is July 13. My reservation is for August 2-9. I've kept my reservation for now but I'm so afraid now reading other reviews that they'll screw me even more! Do not do business with this company. Save yourselves and your money. They're horrible and Will scam you in every way possible citing different policies as it suits them. read more

We received a Nasty nasty car ( chocolate in both driver seat and passenger seat) they switched me to another car it was dirty also ( the gate agent went with me, found it to be dirty also) we where then switched to another car my husband switched out bags then. They decided it was already rented out. So we changed out to the 4th car in this mess one bag was left ( 3 dirty cars later) We discovered this after getting to the hotel. Tried to call... They will not ALLOW me to speak to anyone nor give out the SUPER secret phone number. Then everything was dependent on the contract number ( happened to be in the bag.. in the Car) ridiculous!!! What is the issue with helping out a customer that SIXT had so disappointed and taken advantage of!! Not a company to deal with!!! Finally after over 30 mins they sent us to Kimberley in the DC location she was most unpleasant as was everyone I spoke with in the phone.
