This is the worst rental company I have ever experienced in my life. I reserved a pick up truck. I flew across the country. While I was in the air the pick up truck somehow he came unavailable and they canceled my reservation. They did not tell me this or send me an email or a notification of any kind, I arrived to Dulles airport to find out that my truck was canceled, and my reservation was canceled right along with it. so when I said that's OK, I'm happy to take a small SUV or something, they reiterated your reservation was canceled so if you would like to rent a car, it will be at full price right now. There was no offer of compensation. There was no offer of substituting a vehicle of any kind for the same, hundred dollar per day rate, they screwed me and they screwed me hard. I am a physician and national speaker and rent cars regularly every week. I rented a car from them in early 2025. They "upgraded" me to a black volvo with numerous scratches. When I returned the car the next day, Sixt charged me $880 for a scratch to the back bumper that I did not cause. I suspect they are running a damage scam where they upgrade you to a car with a lot of scratches, then charge you for damage to repair that car with a $500 dimunition of value surcharge and make significant profits by falsely accusing their customers of damage. I would strongly STAY AWAY from this rental company. I have appealed this false damage claim numerous times and they sent my claim to collections. I then researched this and SIXT recently settled a lawsuit for 11 million dollars alleging improper damage claims and not repairing their cars after charging customers for repair costs. Enterprise has the least amount of damage claims and a reasonable wear and tear policy. Avoid this SIXT rental agency and SIXT in general at all costs. read more

This is absolutely the worst car rental company I have ever used. I was charged $45 for a toll that I paid in cash, after I asked not to have the toll package when I rented the car. The "customer service" representative said I needed documentation and/or a receipt but he says there is no documentation made by the rental agent when you decline a service. I did not get a receipt for the cash I paid at the toll booth because I was never told I needed to get receipts because they would later try to rip you off later.They also charged me a cleaning fee even though cleaning was included in the rental and I had it vacuumed at a car wash prior to returning it. When I returned it the agent said there were no problems, 3 weeks later they charged me $150. They also sent a damage report 3 weeks later saying there was a scratch to the door, which I did not do. She never mentioned this when I returned the vehicle after inspecting it. You also conveniently cannot see the copy of the damage report that is given to you prior to taking the rental after 1 hour. Therefore I have no documentation of the damages that were already there. I have emailed this company 5 times and called more that 5 times and not received any assistance. I will NEVER rent from this company again. They have really pretty check in offices, but the trouble that I have had since then is not worth it. This is the worst car rental company that I've ever experienced. My flight got delayed and then my baggage got delayed. I called the Sixt customer service number and waited about 30 minutes before someone picked up. I told the representative about my issue and she was no help at all. Her attitude was "oh well, you are sh!t out of luck." As I was walking from the airport to the bus shuttle at 10 PM, I saw a Sixt shuttle bus passing by, and I tried to wave her down to get on the bus. The a-hole driver looked at me like I was stupid and kept driving. Sixt closed at 10:30pm that day, so I figured there will be another shuttle in 10 minutes and I would still make it before they closed for the day. I stood there for 30 minutes and not another bus came. I had to Lyft to my destination. The next day I went to Enterprise and they were so much more helpful in every way. read more

FRAUDULENT DAMAGE CLAIMS! Sixt in San Antonio fraudulently is claiming I damaged their car. I personally handed the keys to the attendant and there was no damage. Because they have no proof of damages, they just sent an invoice stating damages that was not from a true insurance adjuster. Do not rent from any of their locations because if you do a deep dive you will discover this is their modus operandi.I have contacted an attorney and will be filing fraud charges with the Attorney General of Texas. My father was previously the Assistant District Attorney for consumer fraud so I have no problem going after Sixt. There is a class action suit you can also join again Sixt. They also bait and switched on the car forcing me into an SUV instead of an economy car. read more

If I could give them a negative 5 star rating I would. This company is crooked!! Do not rent a car here!! I rented a car here in February 2025. Went from National airport to my hotel to my business meeting location for 2 days. Nothing else. Never had an incident with another car, did not scrape against a curb or anything. Had 3 other occupants in the car that will attest to that. All professional business people. Returned the car, flew home to California and a couple of weeks later Sixt sends me a letter with a claim for an infinitesimally small scuff mark half way up on a rim. I never hit a curb - NOTHING!! They want to replace the entire rim for $1,100 and are trying to shake me down for the costs. To boot, I bought their insurance coverage at the time of rental and they say it doesn't apply. Tried to call Sixt to try and resolve the issue, but there's no corporate number! Only the local rental location and they say I have to talk to corporate. So I sent a letter to Sixt and they totally ignored it. Blew me off. Now I've received a letter from a place called "Fleet Response" (basically a collection agency) threatening to turn me in to my state DMV to have my license revoked. For a 1/4" long faint scuff mark on a rim THAT I DIDN'T CAUSE!!?!?!! Run away as fast as you can from Sixt!! They are Fu**ing crooks, no better than a mob boss shaking down an 80 year old grandma on the street. I am a recurring customer of Sixt and I have had great experience with Sixt team but in this occasion, renting a car was a breeze I walked into the rental office feeling stressed, but the representative greets me with a warm smile and a welcoming attitude, instantly putting me at ease. The Representative that handled my reservation at Sixt his name was Kal-El. After we had a wonderful ice breaker as he shares same exact spelling and name of "Superman" (Man of Steel) "Kal-El, my absolute favorite character. Kal-El was very friendly and extremely welcoming. He made the entire check-in process so easy and enjoyable. I was disappointed with the reservation that I already pre-paid for as it was not the exact vehicle that I wanted or even used to renting from them previously. So, Kal-El took it upon himself to adjust my reservation without it costing me a cent more. Kal-El even upgraded me to the vehicle of my choice and even accommodated the "state of the license plate" I wanted (VA tags) and Kal-El confirmed that is exactly what I would receive. Kal-El was knowledgeable and shared with me for my next reservation if I wanted to hold on to this vehicle to inform the return team "not to check in the vehicle" because I would be utilizing the same car for my next reservation. For as long as I have been renting from Sixt no one shared that information with me, making my upcoming reservations easier. I do not fault the others, but it just showed that Kal-El was truly transparent, excellent communication & problem-solving abilities, with knowledge of their products and services. Kal-El had attention to detail, was extremely patient with me and had empathy as he not only acknowledged my concerns but worked diligently to resolve them, which he did. It was truly impressive, to say the least. The entire process was seamless because of Kal-El. I will be returning for my future rentals and hope to either get the same service as Kal-El provided from other team members of Sixt or better yet run into Kal-El to take care of my reservation again. Thank you, Kal-El I appreciate your wonderful exceptional service. This gentelman certainly needs to be recognized, praised, and awarded by management of Sixt immediately. read more

If I could put negative stars, I would. This company put me in a vehicle(upgraded) with no AC, then refused to refund me any money after several calls, 30 days of runaround. I even went so far as to go to Pep Boys as roadside assistance suggested. They AC could not be fixed and I was warned that the vehicle may overheat. I also discovered that the driver before me had the same issue with the vehicle. IN addition, I opted out of the EZPass and the transponder was left in the vehicle(working sproadically), this led to future charges at $14.99 per day plus tolls! Some tolls that I paid out of pocket. When I called to ask them to remove the administrative fees on a service I did not elect to have, they refused...all the way from the Phillipines. It was a nightmare and even though it looks like you may be saving money with SIXT, I assure you, you will not. I will never use them again and will go back to a reputable company like Enterprise. I have no issue with the rental or the service. Very efficient. Professional. Good vehicle. As expected. What I did not expect is that a rental advertised for $270.26 for five days use would cost $721.15 with the additional charges they tack on. Five days times "damage waiver", 5 days "vehicle license", 5 days "additional driver", 5 days "rental facility charge", "Voucher differenz", "AP concession recovery fee". Unbelievable! Is the price ever the price in this country anymore? Corporations lure in buyers with low prices before racking on the add-ons. What a scam. If Congress actually represented us, perhaps they would pass a law prohibiting businesses from adding any fees to advertised prices which are not optional. Sixth is no different than other rental agencies. Airlines the same. Even restaurant owners refuse to put service costs into pricing so that their staff can be paid fairly. Instead I am expected to tip 15%, 18%, 20%, 25% in addition to my meal costs. A tip used to be a gesture of kindness for good service. Now restaurant owners have wait staff so squeezed that they cannot live without your additional and expected 20%! Shame on what we are and have become. read more

I had a favorable view of this company based on previous experiences, but my last rental epitomizes poor customer experience and echoes the experience that many others are sharing in their reviews. As stated in other reviews, I also believe they are using preexisting and very minor damage to claim excessive and unreasonable payment from their customers. A SiXT attendant accepted my vehicle at return and then nearly 24 hours later I received two emails with photos of minor scratches claiming it was damage incurred while I had the vehicle. After making a statement that I was not responsible for the damage and provided a pre-rental photo of a scratch at the same height and near the location of the photo they sent to me, they sent me an invoice to pay a laughable amount for the damages. In my view, this is unethical and harassing behavior. I'm sharing so others are aware of this predatory behavior. read more

However, I will just list few reasons for negative review: - very long wait to get to talk to customer service. Pick up was okay, the car was fine. Customer Service at the point of drop off is where the problem began. We arrived at the parking garage at Regan Airport in DC on Saturday morning 8/3, and two different employees ask if I have left the keys in the car. I say yes and work on unloading the bags and people from the car. They both tell me I will get a final receipt in my email in the next 24/48 hours. One is kind enough to give us directions on how to get to the main terminal, we go on our way. It's around 8:00 am we get to the terminal, check in, buy a snack, wait, board our plane. We land in Dallas and I have an email asking if I wanted to extend the rental since I had not turned it in yet. WTF! I call, 3 times trying to get a person from the Regan desk on the phone . But no luck. I am assured that I'll get my close out email soon. Sunday rolls around and I get another email about extending my rental. I call again, they assured me I'll get the close out email soon. Monday, I call just for fun, now that have it, and say I'll get that close out email soon. No email Monday or Tuesday. Wednesday I call and they still have it, still checking it in, I'll get that email soon. I call back they have the close out info and need an extra ~$150.00 dollars for the extra two days? WTF! I argue with the person about the phone records I have made with them, I have to scan and send a copy of my boarding passes to them so they believe I was on a plane. I have asked for a call from a district manager but no one has called. They reversed the charges but this was my first experience with them and my last. I made a reservation over a month ago, which was paid in full at the time. When I arrived to DCA (2/16/2024 at 12:30 pm) i was asked for a credit card, which had been stolen, so I did not have one. The manager (red hair), told me he would have to cancel my reservation, and that I would be charged a cancellation fee. I insisted that they could use my debit card, but he refused. In the mean time, I asked whether or not there was another company from which I could rent using my debit card. He lied, and said "no". He also seemed to be terrorizing the other employees, who are not white. I am not white either, and felt discriminated by this man. He also asked where I live (none of his business) because I did not have a flight. He seemed distrustful, which I attribute to his obvious racism. I later learned that Avis or Budget could rent me a car, using my debit car. Thank goodness for them, as I was able to complet my grip. Sixt seems to hire racist managers that mistreat their employees and non-white customers. This company has lost my business forever, as well as my families' business. The car also smelled really strongly of smoke and my kids complained about it the whole vacation. I tried to plead my case to Sixt Customer Service to no avail. I've been a customer of Sixt for years. They're the number one in Germany for a reason. The service is phenomenal, the personnel is always trying to offer the best service to their customers, and the cars are usually very new, well serviced and high trimmed. I rented GFAR and they had a massive selection of new, high trim cars. Nariah, the representative, offered to let take a look at the cars before I decide which one I want to take and even unlocked it for me to sit inside. She offered but didn't pressure (!) me to buy any additional insurances, which isn't the case with many other rental companies. The 2020 GMC Yukon XL I chose was immaculate with 0 damages, 10,000 miles, SLT (second highest) trim and additional options. Giving it a sticker price of almost $70,000. The return of the car was as easy as can be. Get out, sign ,and hop on the shuttle that was waiting for me. I can confidently give Sixt IAD 5/5 stars. The only criticism I have is that the station is so far out of DC. I hope Sixt opens another branch in the city. read more

Credit cards (not debit or cash cards) are being issued with various logos. From United Airlines, to Delta, Amazon and yes even PayPal. The card is a true credit card. Yet, the fact that it had the word PayPal on it, they treated it as a cash card and refused to take it. The car was paid for online using the very same card. The payment is not refundable. So, not only did I need to go to hertz down the road, I lost my money for a 6 day rental in the process from SIXT. Very bad business. Run away. Very poor service. My husband and I rented a full-size sedan, and there were several problems with our entire experience: 1. Very few options available - when we were went to check in for our rental, they could only offer us either a Nissan or Toyota. This is ridiculous as compared to the wide variety of choices we generally receive at Avis or Hertz, for instance. 2. After settling for the Toyota, we reach our car only to be taken aback by the number of dents and scratches on the car. When we started the car, the maintenance required light started blinking. We went back in and tried switching the vehicle, and the customer service guy was extremely rude and dismissive. He refused to switch out our cars, was dismissive of the maintenance issue by blaming Toyota itself, and threw us a lot of unwanted attitude. He finally offered to check the car with his maintenance team. We saw him smirking and laughing with the maintenance guy, all while pointing to us, before our car was towed away for a "check". 3. The car models they own are very sub-standard. Our car looked ancient, and the rude customer guy told us it was a 2021 model, which we found hard to believe. We later realized the model was the lowest end Toyota model available on the market. read more

Came into Bwi for a rental and flight was delayed 30 minutes. Turns out the 24/7 rental car facility has hours that end at 11:30 pm. So I called and they indicated to wait until the next morning at 7 am to rent the vehicle. Never never never rent here. Avoid and rent with a national company that is actually open 24/7. Update-since I booked through a third party (Expedia) Sixt declined to refund my rental even though it was out of my control; money down the drain for no rental. Have I mentioned to avoid avoid avoid? Save yourself time and frustration and book somewhere else. I wish I could give negative stars. Terrible customer service! Rented a vehicle online, got to Sixt Rental at BWI Airport and the car I paid for online was unavailable, they tried to upgrade to a more expensive car, I said I would wait for the cheaper one that I already paid $300 for. They asked for my Visa card that I used to pay online, they said they couldn't accept it because it was a Visa debit card (but they already took the $300 out of my bank account. They said they couldn't rent me a car and they would issue a refund for the $300, and that would go back to my bank account in 10 business days. So, I was stuck with no car and out $300. TLDR; Vehicles were clean, but they're trying to charge us ~$800 to REPLACE their rim for a couple small scratches... Look. I get that we refused their insurance (we had our own), and they do not cover normal wear and use in their rental agreement (Hertz and other big names do, this is worth going to them just for that reason). I get that we are legally liable to pay to repair even small scratches made to the rim. My issue is that they are charging us ~$800 to REPLACE THE ENTIRE RIM, as opposed to charging to REPAIR the small scratches, which would cost no more than $200 to buff and paint... WTF. If someone accidently scratches the bumper, would they charge to replace the entire bumper instead of a simple repair!? How absolutely absurd. I tried to dispute this claim by simply asking to lower the cost to something more reasonable, a quick buff and paint would easily fix the small scratches. But they refused, and are pushing for the full amount, threatening to "report non-payment to credit scoring agencies." Not to mention their claims department takes over 5 weeks to respond to emails. I made a reservation and paid at the time of reservation. Then we had a death in the family, and I had to change my plans from a two-week rental down to a one-week rental. They were very accommodating and said that the pre-paid money would be credited back to me when the rental was returned after only one week. The agent confirmed this when I picked up the car. Now, they are refusing to return the extra $900 for the week in which I did not have the car (yes, I turned in the car after exactly one week.) I parked the vehicle on your return line, took the keys to your garage service counter and turned them in to the lady managing the kiosk. My first, and only, experience with Sixt was an unmitigated disaster. Lets just say that the insane amount of time it took for me to get into a car that wasn't the one I was guaranteed was equal to the amount of time it took to get someone to acknowledge that there was a problem. Let's also say that they eventually apologized and agreed to a credit on my next rental from them. What I later found out was that the credit could only be applied to a rental that was not paid in advance. Why? Because they charge substantially more for rentals that are not paid in advance. Not much of a reason to give them a second chance. The nice person who had to explain this to me understood why I was unhappy, and promised a supervisor would get back to me shortly. When that didn't happen, I booked with a competitor and moved on. Several days later, with no phone call or contact of any sort, I received an emailed confirmation from Sixt for a free rental of an electric vehicle. I had no idea if this was real or not, but decided to keep my paid reservation with the other company rather than trust Sixt for free. It just wasn't worth the aggravation. read more
