Had a great experience AT FIRST..they upgraded me for free and customer service was very nice. About a month after my trip I received a damage bill for $650 for a scrape on the rim. I know for sure I was not the one to cause the damage, but had no way to prove it. Either way $650 is ridiculous to fix a rim. I sent it through insurance and still had to pay $225 out of pocket for their admin fees. On a Friday, around 11 am, the Sixt counter had no queue. No complaint as a couple of the other rental counters had long lines. I reserved a Mercedes C class (or similar as stated). it was "similar" this time as they didn't have a Mercedes. BMW 3 series was available with only one choice for colors. I would've loved anything but white. I usually get a free upgrade offer but this time all the upgrades were paid only-I took a pass and stuck with the Bimmer. Service was friendly and quick. Car was in good condition with lower miles. Pick up of the car was seamless and fast with easy exit from the garage. Never again! I had a horrible experience with this company. (a negative experience for the 2nd time) I had parked the car, and it wouldn't lock. After 2 hours on the phone with three different "costumer service" agents, and an additional fee of $70, I was told to return the car to the rental company at the airport. When I got to the airport, I was told that the car was unlocking because the key was in my hand, close to the door. I do NOT recommend using Sixt, and we will never use them again. There were issues from the start--when picking our car up, we were aware we could get either the car we selected or a 'similar' one. They didn't have the car we selected, and the 'similar' car was actually not similar and and was a downgrade from what we paid. After returning the car, they sent an email claiming there was damage to the wheel rim. The majority of our trip was in the country with no curbs, and we know we did not cause the damage. If you are misguided enough to rent from Sixt, our advice is to take video and/or pictures of the rental when you pick the car up and when you drop it off so you don't get scammed. read more

This was after I received a confirmation receipt that says "NO NEW DAMAGE" was found. They have not returned emails or calls. Upon our arrival we were treated as though we were a walking customer (without reservation). Instead of a Celica sized car they provided a midget sized car. I accepted the downgrade to a but I did not notice that they slipped in a $$250.00 upgrade fee. Upon our return home I reached out to SixT. Their customer service representative feels they do not owe an explanation because I signed the rental papers. Note: this was the off season. We needed a car. I have a flight this afternoon to Minnesota and I had booked a 7 passenger car to accommodate my family about a month ago. Yesterday, I called to find out what the cancellation policy was, as I had a family issue came-up. The customer service rep I spoke to yesterday advised that there was a cancellation fee, though that fee wasn't disclosed. I asked that my reservation be held until I worked out the family situation. The call ended with my understanding that the reservation was held, and that I could call back if I needed to change anything. Thankfully, I was able to maintain our trip today, but when I went to check-in this morning, the booking showed a Compact Opel Astra, which would be totally insufficient for the needs of my family on this trip. When I called customer service, I was advised that a "colleague" of the customer service team cancelled my reservation yesterday and I was being charged a cancellation fee. When asked if they could restore the reservation, I was told it could be done, but I would now have to pay over $1,000.00. I have never done business with Sixt before, and I cannot understand how they canceled my reservation on a inquiry call, then tried to charge me double to fix their mistake. Further, I understand that not only is my reservation cancelled, but that I am going to be charged $200.00 for their error in managing my reservation. Thankfully, I've been able to reserve another vehicle with another carrier. I was told by their customer service that if I want a refund, I need to send them and e-mail and they will consider waiving the fee. Anyhow, since they made me write the situation up in an e-mail, I'm posting the issue here so other consumers can be aware of how my situation was handled and make a choice to do business with them. This is for the downtown Minneapolis location. While the base prices are lower than other companies, it's a similar situation as budget airlines = fees, fees, fees that add up to inconvenience. Reservation change fees (the worst), extra driver fees even if a domestic partner, no 1-2 hour grace period for returns. Return it a day early? - pay the same price as if you still had the car. Lastly, they show a screen with your costs which was very unclear & left us untrusting & wondering if we were being cheated somehow. Our customer agent was unfortunately stiff, bored, & unfriendly. We will not be returning. Enterprise experience is worth a few dollars more on "base" price. Car was fine & new. read more

I think this company gets a lot of hate because it's young but from my personal experience the customer service has been great and the cars have been some of the nicest options available. Almost always exactly what you booked online or better. 10/10 would recommend because for price and what you get it's a very good experience. I hear a lot of people complaining about booking issues but I don't know I feel like it's a You problem because everytime I've booked I've double checked and made sure I got a booking confirmation and it was fine. I'm currently in a BMW x3 and it does spell a bit like cigarettes but that's also not their fault because you're not supposed to smoke in these cars and people are ruining them by doing so. I returned the vehicle full of gas and with no damage whatsoever and walked with the attendant who also said everything is good please sign here and Thank You. An hour later I received a text from them stating "new damages" please cooperate in this matter. Called them and spoke to the claims department and they said minor scratches do not worry about it. I was one of the thousands of airline passengers impacted by the Crowd Strike software update that triggered a global IT outage, beginning July 19, 2024. My July 21st flight was cancelled three hours before departure and re-booking options through the airline were not able to get me home in time for work on Monday. Greyhound buses were sold out so my only option was to rent a car. As expected, rental car options were limited. What was not expected was the price gouging by the rental car companies, including SIXT, with outrageous One Way-Fees. SIXT charged (and taxed) a $700 One-Way Fee! I had my rental car for approximately 12 hours and paid $1601. You really know how to take advantage of desperate travelers. Shame on you. I contacted SIXT customer service and they basically said "too bad". I submitted a PRICE GOUGING complaint to the Minnesota Attorney General. read more

I reserved a car at the airport and paid for it in advance. When I arrived at the airport, Sixt said they would not accept a security deposit from my debit card. I argued there was nothing on the website that gave me notice of that. The check in process requires that you complete an online check in which I did and it did not work. I was supposed to receive a code that would allow me to get the keys to the car efficiently, huge failure here. I never received any code and had to wait in line 30 minutes to complete an all out check in at the rental counter something I have never had to to at National or Budget. Then I did not get thecar I reserved, I received an "upgrade" that was cramped and uncomfortable. Their response to my complaint about the car is that it is in the same size class as the Camry that I wanted. That may be but the interior room certainly is not in the same size. They asked for a review so I gave them one which was not a good one and they followed up with an email that I caused damage to the front of the car even though the agent that checked the car back in stated "everything looks good" and then they wanted me to complete a damage report for something I had no idea about and I had paid extra to cover any "damage" with a $0 deductible. Not sure what the letters "SIXT" stands for, but the "S" must stand for Scam-Artists. 1st car reeked of marijuana - but was promptly given a new one. At the check-in counter, I was told that because I flew United Airlines that I could upgrade for a TOTAL cost that would be less than what I ALREADY PAID for the car. Turned out, it was an ADDITIONAL $100. I was blatantly lied to, and I am very angry! Finally, at the car rental return, I realized I had forgotten to fill up the tank with gas and told the attendant that I would leave and fill up the tank so I wouldn't get overcharged. He told me that I didn't have to because I was only a little under full. He even showed me on his handheld console that my check-in was finalized and they would be $0 of additional charges. I told him it worked fine everywhere else including TSA security, and he had the balls to say "well TSA doesn't care about security, but we do". REALLY. Do not rent from this company, they are scammers. We flew in on Tuesday and had a week rental. The night before, our sister in law passed unexpectedly. When we picked up the car, we told the agent what happened and were told if we needed to extend, just call. Car was supposed to go back tomorrow and my hubby called this morning to extend and told them we are listed in the obit and needed to extend till this Sunday. This morning it was an extra 160.00 to extend till Sunday plus daily rate. Just called now and it's 199.00 extra plus daily rate. I will never rent from a dishonest company like this again. Last I left you, I had received an email that I hadn't returned the car and would be charged for late days. Since there is absolutely no way to reach the office you rent from, the best you can do is email customer service. I did that, explaining that I had returned the car a half hour early with a full tank of gas as required. The standard reply, from an email box to which you can not reply was "This message is to confirm that we have received your email and one of our dedicated Sixt agents will be getting back to you very quickly - just like our speedy cars!" It is now four days later and, amazingly, I have not received a reply. I did receive another email that said I still haven't returned the car. Next, I received an "invoice" saying I had returned the car two days late, charging me $130 more than my rental agreement. The email with the invoice said it was returned two days later at the exact time of day I had returned the car, that it was full of gas, but the odometer showed an additional 85 miles we're driven. I sent another email to customer service. This time I attached my photo of the dash showing the gas gauge and the odometer. The photo was time and date stamped. I also attached a photo of my airline boarding pass and suggested to them it would not be possible for me to keep their car two extra days as I was on an airplane to Phoenix. The next communication I got was a CORRECT invoice with the correct return date and time as well as the correct mileage. Case closed!!! But, I still haven't heard from SIXT. At first I was impressed. Check-in was easy. Our car had a recall, so the agent gave us a free upgrade. And check-out was so smooth. BUT. One month later I checked my credit card statement and saw an additional charge from SIXT for $121. When I inquired about it, I was told it was for tolls. SIXT sent me an itemized invoice. I looked up the bridges and freeways indicated on the invoice, and noted they were all in New York City. The problem? We were in Minnesota. Obviously, fraudulent charges. They issued an immediate refund, but we receive no apology, no explanation, and no offers to accommodate us for the time required to fix this. read more

I rented a car at MSP to visit my family. Upon getting into the car, totally smells like someone spent a week smoking pot in it with the windows closed. This is NOT the first time this has happened at Sixt. However, that isn't even the bad part. I don't really care about it, so I go about my way. Keep in mind, I'm with my 8 year old son on this trip- meaning I am definitely not smoking pot in this car. We go to Mom's 3 hours away. Car sits for a week. Like, I literally didn't drive it once. I take it back to MSP, and to my surprise, they charge ME with a smoke cleaning fee. You have to be kidding me. Obviously, I went right to my credit card company and will NOT be paying for their mistake. But its a bunch of BS. Clean your #%*&ing car before you accuse me of smoking in it. It cost $400.00! Never again will I rent at Sixt. EDIT: Since I disputed to my credit card company and posted here, Sixt refunded my smoking fee which is MUCH appreciated. I'm glad that I will be able to return to Sixt now because even though this mistake occurred, they rectified it and DO have the coolest rental car options in the market. I reserved and paid for a car a few weeks before my trip from Minneapolis to Fort Worth/Dallas. My connecting flight was delayed 3 hours. It was midnight when I got to the Sixt counter, at which point I was told there were no vehicles available. Reminder, I had already reserved and PAID IN FULL for a car. The agent at the counter said the only hope to get a car was to wait for someone else to return a vehicle. (Keep in mind it was midnight.) Then he asked if I was staying close by. My hotel was 20 miles away and I needed to be at a conference first thing the next morning. So obviously waiting until someone returned a vehicle the next morning was not an option for me. I had to cancel my reservation and Sixt refused to give a refund. read more

So you will need a shuttle to get you to the airport and back. They have their shuttle drivers picking you up so you dont have to worry about calling a taxi. Their vehicles are clean and to your specifications. Recommend you dropping off the vehicle at least 2 hours before your departure flight. Upon returning vehicle, it will take between 2 business days to get your receipt. No additional charges were made to the vehicle. However, please note they do have a fixed fee if you return the car with smoking odor. Otherwise, this rental car service is good if you are visiting the MSP area. read more
