I have been all over this town and have had my eyebrows butchered, not to mention paying an arm and leg for shotty service. SOOOOOO Happy I found Six Sense Spa. It is a small nail, hair, skin, massage spa in Downtown Evanston owned by Mika. I walked in and she introduced herself, took me in back, and asked me what I wanted. She showed me what she suggested before doing anything with wax. And the whole way through she was asking me what I thought, if she needed to anything different, etc. Mika is Fabulous! I was given a gift by my daughter and her boyfriend for a manicure and pedicure. I am 68 yrs old and it was the best I have ever received. The atmosphere is cozy, quiet and comfortable. I am very sensitive to chemicals and have to stay away from beauty shops as much as possible. I had no reaction whatsoever to the Spa or to the materials that were used on me. She really worked on my feet and hands so that it wasn't all superficial and she is such a great person, it was like I had known her forever. Best experience, ever, hands down. Being new to the neighborhood, I was a bit apprehensive about looking for a spa that was close to home and work. Fortunately I hit the jackpot the first time . I visited Sixth Sense two weeks ago for a facial and combination deep-tissue/ sports massage. Both were amazing. The staff members were knowledgeable and struck the perfect balance between keeping me informed and not disturbing my relaxation. Taking a cue from my positive experience, I decided to come back today for waxing. I wish I could give ten stars, really. Most pleasant experience I've ever had in the same room with wax and that's no understatement. Not only was it executed quickly and systematically (no-doubling back or do-overs) it was as pain-free as waxing gets. I'm home now, approximately 4 hours later and no so much as a tingle, still! This place is a GEM. I have been a loyal waxing client for over 5 years and refuse to go anywhere else! In fact, I no longer live in Evanston and still commute 30+ mins to Sixth Sense Spa about once a month. I even commuted from Madison, WI!!! Mika (the Owner) and Heather are both INCREDIBLE and make any wax as painless as possible. They are extremely welcoming, talkative, thorough and efficient! The prices are very fair for the high quality that is offered. I've tried other services (facial, pedicure) and found them to be on par with the waxing. I'd like to bring up that I've tried a larger salon in Evanston (Sixth Sense was closed on a Sunday, and I was desperate). I had a HORRIBLE experience with an inexperienced esthetician for nearly double the price. After that, I've been on a strict Sixth Sense Spa regimen. AGAIN, I LOVE THIS PLACE, and I KNOW that you will not regret going! I've referred many friends to this place, and everyone has been a huge fan (and is now a recurring client). I had a great massage and pedicure with Mika. She was very attentive to my needs, and she did deep tissue that was very effective on my knots without being too deep for me. The massage was somewhat more vigorous than I expected, but that was a good thing as I left energized! I live in Chicago but I make the trek to Evanston whenever I need a wax because Mika is worth it. I have very sensitive skin and Mika is constantly asking if I am okay, if anything hurts, etc. She is so nice and when somebody is working on my hoo-ha, well, I want them to be as caring, gentle, discreet and of course careful! Plus, Mika is very funny and has many amusing anecdotes. Maybe that is why the wax doesn't hurt that much. I am laughing too hard. read more

This is my go-to place for manicures, pedicures, massages and facials (I have yet to try their waxing). No matter when or what I am having done, it is always done to perfection. I love the manicures, they may take a little longer and cost a little bit more, but they last for at least two weeks if not longer (and I abuse my nails, I cook, garden, do crafts and many other hand abusing things). The spa may not look as modern as some other spas in the area, but who cares. The ladies who work at this spa go above and beyond the call of duty and everybody makes sure that you feel pampered, happy and satisfied. Did I mention that the products that they use at the spa are some of the best around? This is the first spa that I had gone to where I didn't have an allergic reaction to the products that they use. Lastly, they use some of the best sanitizing and hygienic practices. For their pedicures they use bowls instead of the pedicure spas so they can disinfect the bowls with bleach between clients. Mika (the owner) besides being one of the friendliest business owners I have ever met is a eyebrow waxer/eyebrow tinter MASTER! I literally got the best eyebrow wax I have ever gotten, I have been getting them waxed for more than 20 years. She also suggested that I tint my eyebrows and I love that she suggested this to me. I had an amazing experience there! I got an hour massage, hour facial, and manicure. The lady who administered both the massage and facial really knows her stuff and made sure I was comfortable at all times. She gave me some good tips about cleansers and serums to use. My manicure was very professionally done and they had a good variety of colors to choose from. I don't know if their services are any good or not, but when I called to make an appointment to use my groupon, the woman sighed and gave me the option of taking a 1pm slot on 3 different weekdays, then yelled at me for asking if they had any other availability. Considering that I went into (and exited) this phone call completely innocently and politiely, I could not believe the bitchy attitude I got from this woman. She must be overwhelmed by groupon appointments, but that's no reason to sling around the verbal abuse. I guess I would advise everyone not to use groupons here, and not to reward their nasty customer service with your business. read more

Went to get an eyebrow wax today and it was wonderful! I used to get waxes every month or so but have been lazy for the past 6 months. My eyebrows needed a lot of work and she did a wonderful job getting both eyebrows clean and even. The spa has a nice, relaxing setting and is very inviting. Since recently moving to Evanston I have been looking for a waxing place and I am so glad I found 6th sense. They were able to fit me in for a same day appointment and did a wonderful job. I have been going to this salon for the past year and a half for waxing, eyelash and eyebrow tint. They are hands down the best I have been to. When it comes to your face you don't want just anyone touching it. They are extremely meticulous, professional, friendly, and use high quality products. I have been coming to Mika for 6 years, mostly for manicures and pedicures, and have always had an excellent experience. Mika is so knowable about nail and skin care. Occasionally, I will visit another salon for a quick pedicure and inevitably will notice a couple of weeks later that I have an in-grown toenail on each foot. When I return to Mika, she magically fixes the in-grown toenail issues caused by the other salon and makes me wonder why I ever went to the other salon in the first place! We were both received with great warmth, attention to detail, and got terrific service in every way. This spa is lovingly tended by the owner, and you can tell that she takes great pride in making sure that everyone walks away refreshed and feeling like they got good value. We did. Our massages and facials were excellent, and the owner did the manis and pedis herself. The spa is clean and serene, while not being stuffy.
