Based on the positive reviews posted, we decided to try Sizzling Spices. We arrived early and for a while were the only ones there, we were served by Babita, in a very pleasant manner. My wife ordered a mild Vindaloo Lamb curry which she found very tasty, she also ordered a Chai Tea which she says was delicious. I on the other hand, besides some Garlic Naan, thought I had ordered Vindaloo Lamb as well, but mistakenly ordered Tikka Kebab, which I did not enjoy. First time checking this place out since we moved to downtown Woodstock and it was excellent! I got the lamb vindaloo and butter chicken all to myself with some garlic naan and I ate every last bite. The flavors were wonderful in both, but I think the vindaloo might have been my pick out of the two. The potato's in the vindaloo were also excellent. Great, classic garlic naan. What a snug little gem hiding off the square in Woodstock. I was in love with every bite I had. The service was gold star, too. From filling water glasses to clearing used plates to checking in us- various employees interacted with us with grace and professionalism. My two dear friends and I arrived at 12:30 and we were one of two tables occupied and the , 15 minutes later, the restaurant began to fill. The menu is tidy and to the point. Most dishes can be made with tofu, chicken, beef, shrimp or lamb. We jumped on some appetizers to start and they were all winners. Of the three-Chicken 65, garlic naan with roti sauce, and Paneer Pakora- I don't know that I could pick a favorite. They were tasty, freshly prepared and wonderfully presented. I chose chicken tikki masala as my entree and it was a home run. The boneless chicken was floating in a spicy tomato based sauce with a slight swirl of cream. I wanted a straw for every last drop. There were a couple of times during the meal when I got wonderful whiffs of the meat and other items being cooked. The charred, fired smell was enchanting. The place is located on the end a small strip of stores. There was plenty of parking. (I don't think I noticed what the other store fronts did next door). Have been wanting to get this place as not a huge option for Indian food in the area and heard this place was great. It did not disappoint. It has a small family Feel and they are very attentive. Vegetable pakora x 2 was good starter for 5 of us. For main we had chicken tikka kebab, chicken korma, lamb biryani, Dahl makni, and Palak paneer with two garlic naan. Plenty of rice was provided. We have made Sizzling Spices a regular meal stop for us in recent weeks. Their menu offers a variety of HALAL dishes that are all very tasty. At this evenings dinner, we started by sharing the Butter Chicken Samosa (2 per order) and Mango Lassi. Both were delicious. For meal, we shared a variety of dishes including the butter chicken, lamb korma, lamb vindaloo, lamb biryani, and tandoori chicken. The family rated their meals as follows: Butter chicken- 3.5/4 ~ the taste of the sauce reminded us more of a tikka masala and didn't match the flavor of the sauce that was presented with the samosa for appetizer. Lamb Korma- 4.5/5 Lamb Vindaloo- 4/5 ~ asked for very spicy and didn't come out as spicy as expected; taste was still there Lamb Biryani- 4/5 Tandoori Chicken- 4/5 ~ came out sizzling hot and filled the entire restaurant with its spice smell! It tasted just as good as it looks. We all enjoyed our meals and trying each others food as well. The garlic naan was paired well and was needed to soak up the extra sauce. I love sizzling spices! The owners are very sweet and the ambiance of the restaurant is really nice. Very cozy and relaxed, but nicely decorated and very clean. I usually get take out and I try something different every time. I've never been disappointed! My favorites are the palak paneer, Chana masala, and the chicken korma. I'm not normally a fan of Indian food from previous experiences, so I was not exactly confident coming here the first time, but enough friends and Yelp reviews were singing its praises that it was on my radar. Then, after listening to James Acaster yell "Papadoms or bread" at guests on Off Menu for months and wondering if I would ever be able to try a papadom I saw it on their menu and realized I had to try it, and I'm glad I did! I've come to learn that I do in fact like many Indian dishes, but especially chicken 65, paneer biryani, and chickpea curry. The mango lassi is also fantastic here. Food was the best Asian food I have had since moving to Georgia. Highly recommend! Service was polite and unobtrusive, and the manager/ owner was a delight to talk to. Everything is freshly cooked and came out hot and very tasty! I had the Sizzling Chicken Tikka Kebab and I loved it with an Aloo Gobi and Basmati Rice. My husband had the ChicKen Tikka Masala and he was very happy with the aromatic sauce and quality of the tender chicken. Sizzling Spices is a great addition to the Woodstock restaurant scene, owned and operated by a lovely, hardworking family. The restaurant fills up fast, particularly at dinnertime Friday and Saturdays, with a number of repeat customers. Reservations accepted. With a policy change since our last visit, you're now able to bring your own wine. As I don't think many people do, to be on the safe side, I brought a corkscrew from home. (Hey! You never know.) Starting with vegetable samosas -- they also offer meat-filled -- we ordered garlic nan and two entrees. T stuck with his usual, lamb vindaloo. Good to the last drop! I ordered chicken korma. My first impression was an inordinate amount of sauce. But as I dug into my dinner, I was glad. The sauce is so good I poured a liberal amount over rice. (Our server -- the family's mom -- graciously offered additional rice with the chicken I was bringing home.) A number of friends won't try Indian food with the unsubstantiated claim that it's too spicy. Au contraire! I describe "Americanized" as full of cream and weak on spice and flavor. I like the more authentic food. The staff were very friendly and the restaurant is clean. I am all about the flavor, if you REALLY care a lot about service and interior design, you'll love this place. I ordered the lentil soup and Paneer Tikka Masala spice level 5/6. I should have ordered spice level 6/6. The lentil soup and Paneer Tikka Masala were okay, edible but not memorable at all. Add the price point of $6 Lentil soup (Should be $4-$5 tops) and $16 for Paneer Tikka Masala that should be around the $14 price point and I had a large bill. Want some awesome naan bread this is your place. We walked right in and were greeted with a welcome. They were extremely attentive. Our water glasses stayed full the entire time. Service was good, they came by to refill drinks often and were friendly The restaurant is small but the food came out pretty quickly We had a group of 6 and everyone ordered their own dish but they serve it family style. Unfortunately, the portions on most dishes are small that 1 person should easily finish it unless you're just not very hungry or a small eater. The mixed grill $25 was big enough for 2. It came out with the thickest cloud of smoke like a sizzling fajita plate except the smoke HURT everyone in the restaurant. It's not a big place so most of the tables ended up coughing for several minutes and I actually felt guilty my husband and I ordered this to split because it was so hard to breathe for a few mins. The flavor itself is ok. We ordered hot but maybe she thought I said mild? Zero spice but the sauce is thick like a paste. It comes with a variety of meat but they all kinda look the same in the sauce except the chicken legs and the 1 maybe 2 shrimps which at $25 why are there only 2 small shrimps? Majority of it was chicken and I didn't want to eat the legs because the sauce did not look like it belonged on my hands so my husband ate those and I tried the lamb which was very dry and I didn't care for it. Butter chicken ($17 I think) is smaller than you'd get at viceroy or most of the places I've seen in Alpharetta/sandy springs so not a sharing plate in my opinion. I didn't love the mixed grill so actually ended up mainly eating the white rice they serve with a little sauce and the garlic naan we ordered ($5 for I think 4 small cut pieces which is super pricey!) You get 8 momos for $12 so we ordered that as an appetizer for the table. That was actually my favorite thing of what we ordered. We got them medium but I don't think they actually have anything spicy in the store since these also were served mild or zero spice Least spicy Indian restaurant I have literally ever been to One of the others at the table got the chicken biryani and it came in a slightly bigger portion than the butter chicken so someone probably could eat this alone if they were hungry or you could have it on the side and order a more protein focused entree since it didn't have a lot of chicken in it. The rice was dryer on this than the regular rice too Overall, the food was ok, just expensive for what you got. I probably wouldn't come back unless someone else really wanted to. My husband has eaten a lot of Indian food throughout his life, but this was my first time - so the staff spent time answering all my questions, explaining the menu and making recommendations for me. My husband said this was some of the best Indian food he's had and for me - it was a great introduction! It's a small restaurant, very clean and cozy and located right outside the Main Street area of Woodstock, so we didn't have to deal with the parking nightmare of the Main Street area. I've seen people rave about Sizzling Spices on FB and as a fan of Indian food - this place was on my short list. For a little belated birthday date night, I had an itch that only a tandoori could scratch, so we decided to see what the fuss is all about. I'll cut to the chase: we cannot WAIT to go back! It's very conveniently located right down from Downtown Woodstock but it's also slightly tucked away enough to feel quaint, at least in the dark. It's at the end of a little strip but it is so cozy inside! They actually had a couple of tables on the sidewalk and if it hadn't been raining, I would've loved to sit there and enjoy the fall air. The inside is a lot smaller than I had envisioned, but in the best way. There was a nice crowd already but we were seated immediately. A quick inspection of the menu had me excited to see some favorites and interested in some things I'd never heard of. Quick tip: momos are basically Nepalese/Indian potstickers and the chicken momos, fried, are awesome! We opted for an order of vegetable (onion) pakoras, a mixed tandoori grill, garlic naan, fried chicken (not "fried chicken") momos and mango chutney. The pakoras were probably my favorite. They're like tiny Indian Bloomin' Onions and they were served with a yummy tamarind sauce. They were crispy and also soft, kind of like a funnel cake, but full of spice and onion. 10/10! The mixed tandoori is not advertised as shareable but we split it and it was PLENTY! I think it was like, three pieces of tandoori chicken, three or four pieces of chicken tikka, two tandoori shrimp and three pieces of lamb tikka. I was a fan of everything except the shrimp. They weren't bad and my husband loved his, but I just didn't think that flavor or preparation worked with shrimp. I've already talked about the little momos, which were served with a sauce. I have no idea what it's made of, but it was a nice hit of moisture for the fried exterior and it complemented them very well. The naan was not my favorite, but then my husband loved it. It was garlic naan, and there was garlic but I don't know if it was the raw garlic or the other herbs, it tasted more Italian than Indian. So it wasn't bad, it was just like taking a sip of tea when you're expecting a Coke. Lastly, the mango chutney was so yummy. I wouldn't have guessed it was mango if I didn't know, but paired with the chicken tikka - it was like Indian chicken nuggets with sweet & sour sauce (the McDonald's variety) but I mean that in the best way. I'd order that pairing again happily! So why did I only give four stars? Well, let me say it pains me to have done that. I'm guessing it's family-owned and everyone was so sweet and you can tell that they're working very, very hard. But this is not somewhere to go for a quick meal. Luckily, this was our only plan for the evening, but if this is your stop before something, go earlier than you think you should. It's all for good reason, I think everything aside from condiments is cooked to order and that is obviously a good thing. But with a packed house on a Friday night, it means a long wait for your food. We ordered everything at once, and I generally think of naan as an appetizer - I dunno, blame Red Lobster or Provino's, but it comes before the meal. We didn't get it until our meal came out. This is all fine, and we are still so excited to go back, we just didn't know and due to something unforeseen, became anxious by the time our food arrived. Before requesting the check, I ordered a mango lassi for my husband and he LOVED it. I'm not a yogurt fan at all, but he is so go by him! I love Indian food and was delighted when this place opened, as it brought some much-needed variety to downtown Woodstock. I got the half Tandoori chicken and it was delicious (my only wish was that it was a little spicier, but I'm a pepper head.) The garlic naan was the best I have had in a long time.
