Shaun J the Barber. The owner of Shave Bar.
    D.L. S.

Updated: The owner pulled me to the side after seeing my review and apologized for the rare moment of where he may have been double booked. This is exactly what excellent business owners do. I appreciate this and am very happy that he approached me to correct the issue. All of the barbers are competent in their skill. They make the experience going to get a haircut an enjoyable experience. Everyone is very charismatic and does the absolute best to bring the vision of your unique cut into reality. I don't think I've seen anyone ever leave upset getting out of the chair. I've been going to Shaun J for almost 10 years now, and I've only seen him improve over the years. This is the only place to get you hair cut in the DFW for all races and ages.

I stopped in on a Tuesday evening after my son's received horrible haircuts at a different barbershop in Dallas. Didn't bother me much, but the music was dance club loud and dance club genre. There were at least 8 barbers lining the shop, all who seem to work off of appointments. Most of the barbers had customers in their chairs and in the waiting area. There were quite a few modern and original cuts, big plus. In typical barbershop fashion, I walked in and spoke to the guys and heard mum, but got a few confused glances (typically happens when a woman walks into a barbershop with kids). Two barbers, who were actually off duty, assisted me and fixed my boy's hair - free of charge. I insisted on some payment and tipped them for their time and effort, and I will definitely return.

That's side view is my faux fro hawk!

My first haircut at a barber shop and I was nervous but it went well! Rell Mitchell was my barber and he did a great job ! For a first timer I wasn't sure they cut women and I didn't know what to tell him but he made it easy ! I didn't feel weird sitting in there and we chatted , I was relaxed and I was done ! I loved my hair cut and I sent my girlfriends with short hair to him ! He was able to slide me in because his appointment never showed ! I was a walk in , I found them on yelp ! I normally would have made an appointment but he didn't stress me out ! The environment was professional and looking around all the other guys waiting to get their hair cut were calm , no stress , no arguments !i will be coming back here for sure ! I took a million selfies , hehehe ! Anyways ask for Rell if you are a short hair barber shop newbie !

Very unprofessional, don't trust the yelp hours they open and close whenever they want.

DEEPLY DISAPPOINTING EXPERIENCE: Unprofessional Management at Hammer & Nails Frisco…read more Rarely does one encounter an establishment so fervently devoted to undermining its own brand reputation as Hammer & Nails Frisco. As a commercial real estate professional with substantial experience in customer service expectations, I found the management's approach here nothing short of shocking, confirming many of the worst negative reviews that populate Google and employee feedback forums (feel free to research yourself...). Further, and from a long-time franchisee myself, let this stand as a wake-up call to the franchise owner--if you care at all about the longevity and credibility of this business, immediate intervention is mandatory. --The Core Problem: Emotion-Driven Management-- I visited in June '25 with a gift card. The haircuts are subpar, but acceptable for the price. I got a membership to save $20/month but decided to cancel after a particularly poor cut (the last one...). Timeline: 10/21/25 - Submitted cancellation online; received "request received" message but no confirmation email 10/23/25 - No response after 2 business days. Called repeatedly--no answer, just an unhelpful bot 10/25/25 (AM) - Still no response after 5 business days, so I went in-person. Receptionist couldn't cancel and texted "the manager," promising to call that day 10/25/25 (7pm) - Never received the promised call. After 8 attempts and 10 minutes on hold, receptionist groaned that her manager was "in the hospital" and froze my account, promising the manager would call Monday 10/27/25 (8:30am) - Manager (April??) called irate, stating "your account is canceled and you're on a 'not to reinstate' list because you were rude to my receptionist." When I attempted to respond, she spoke over me saying "I just lost my baby this weekend and was in the hospital!" WHAAAAT!?!? This was deeply unprofessional--using personal circumstances as justification for poor customer treatment and weaponizing tragedy to guilt clients. At no point is this acceptable management behavior. FURTHER, what type of management asks a store manager to come to work Monday, after she lost a child a day before???? Makes no sense... --A Pattern, Not an Anomaly-- Research reveals my experience isn't isolated: Employee Reviews: On Indeed, Hammer & Nails scores 1.9/5 overall with management rated 1.0/5. Frisco employees cite "abuse this company puts on their employees" and management that's "very rude and condescending." One reviewer: "could have had a barber for life, but I'll never go back." Systemic Failures: Multiple locations report "overly micromanaging, lack of support," with managers who "aren't clear of their expectations," causing talented professionals to leave. Toxic Culture: Multiple sources describe management who "talk about employees badly." One reviewer noted owners with "zero experience" were hired as friends--"basically they hire bartenders and dancers to manage a luxury place." Billing Issues: While I haven't experienced this personally, multiple customers report being charged after canceling, with management refusing refunds. Reddit documents cases where managers admitted to "intentionally stealing" through continued billing. --The Bottom Line-- No franchise selling itself as "luxury" can survive when managed by the whims and insecurities of its leadership. The lack of customer-first mindset is palpable, with explosive responses replacing routine service inquiries. If owners have any interest in salvaging this brand, they must overhaul management training, customer relations, and complaint resolution--replacing emotionally volatile managers with professionals committed to serving customers with dignity. Until these failures are addressed, Hammer & Nails Frisco serves as an example of exactly how NOT to treat customers.

Taking a trip down the proverbial destination known as Memory Lane can be a perilous journey. You…read moreremember the good times, obviously, but then you start to question some of your more, let's say "creative" moments as you look back on your life. Jumping off the roof of the slide in fifth grade was pretty cool until you realized there were rocks under you, and jumping into a relationship with a woman who owns a bookshelf and no books was pretty cool until you realized there was a crazy person in front of you. And I think we can all agree getting out of college before camera phones existed is proof that timing truly is everything. But then sometimes you look back on your life and ask the hard-hitting questions like, "Why did I not name names in my Yelp review of the barbershop I've been going to for more than 10 years?" By now the more astute Yelp readers have noticed a former five-star review and this new five-star review. Essentially this is an update that dares to improve upon perfection, where "perfection" is the Razor's Edge experience and not my former five-star review. (While not as bad as some of my Yelp reviews from "back in the day," it's not my favorite piece of work I've ever shared with the Internet in a desperate plea for attention.) The reason for this update is simple: following the emergence of "normalcy" as the COVID-19 pandemic continues, haircuts and barbershops are like sacred grounds in a world where we could all pass for ZZ Top stunt-doubles. That Razor's Edge has been doing what they do for years while weathering the coronarvirus storm to continue providing marvelous haircuts is a testament to the talents of everyone under this roof. A visit to Razor's Edge is akin to a social gathering. Customers are laughing and making conversation with their barbers, the woman at the desk has never met a stranger, and the team of stylists are as welcoming as they are knowledgable about cutting, trimming and other verbs related to the act of bringing sharp metal objects near clients' heads to make them look ravishing. The brightly lit interior is relaxed yet professional, with TVs periodically perched around the room and a radio tuned to a diverse mix of tunes. (I heard Def Leppard's "Animal" here one Saturday morning, and sometimes that's all you need to ensure your weekend is going to be okay.) Round it off with some awesome shoe shine services and (new!) reserved parking spots out front, and Razor's Edge certainly makes you feel special whether you're a walk-in or a regular. And speaking of regularity, I consider myself fortunate to have been blessed with the ability to visit the same barber for all this time. Brian is an excellent barber, for not only does he do an exceptional job at cutting hair, but he also manages to make me look good. My typical "style" can best be described as "struggling artist," and yet Brian makes me look awesome. My friends and family are routinely amazed at my transformation into something resembling a functioning member of society, and it's thanks to Brian's skills. I've recommended plenty of others to his chair in the corner of the barbershop, and will continue to do so. The same goes for Jerry, another skillful master who has cut my nephew's hair now for... I'd rather not say, because that's going to make me feel "ancient," and I'm just now okay with feeling "old." Suffice it to say, my nephew will be nine-years-old in a couple weeks at the time of this writing, and Jerry has never failed to make him look like a very charming and stylish young man. I begrudgingly abandoned any hope of still being "the cute one" in our family after my nephew started getting his haircut from Jerry. Such is life. Such is Razor's Edge, now that I think about it. I've only managed to talk about two of the fine stylists under this roof, but I guarantee there are hundreds of customers with equally impressive stories to share about their visits here. Be it a visit to Brian or Jerry or whomever else is available, you're in great hands as soon as you walk through the door. There will be those who feel this review is hyperbolic and exaggerated, though they probably didn't read far enough to get to this sentence. And there will be those who scoff at the pricing, to which I would offer the timeless reminder of "you get what you pay for," and whatever I've paid for here has always left me looking sharp. When all is said and done and you're going down Memory Lane, you'll have nothing but fondness for the time you spent here.
