We went skating about a week ago (Friday) at skateland Mesa. My partner ended up having a pretty bad fall while in the rink. The staff did an exceptional job helping him off the floor and escorting us out with a wheel chair. They not only offered to call an EMT, but they gave us water, ice, passes to return, and were as helpful as they could be under the circumstances. I really wish we would have gotten the young lady's name that was helping us. It turns out that my boyfriend ended up breaking his ankle and had a torn ligament that required surgery. We want to praise and thank the staff for their professional and great customer service under a very stressful situation. read more

We moved to Mesa from Tucson about a year ago, and this is the first place that popped up for fun things to do in Mesa! Over this past summer my husband and I took our three kids here I was the only one who knew how to skate at the time but yup you guessed it all four of them learned how to skate that night!!! We went every week during the summertime, and we had one birthday there already and we are planning on having another one in December!!! Saturday lessons are amazing! Such a great deal - with each lesson you get 2 free skate sessions to use later. The adult instructors are incredible - friendly, polite, helpful and great at teaching new techniques. I have learned so much in just 2 sessions while my kids are in the kids' class. Kids are split into different age and skill levels, both are learning new things each time. We love the lessons and the instructors are very impressive! read more

Would be 10x better if they stopped taking groups of people on and off the skate floor. I didn't pay almost $20 to sit on the sidelines. I get you are trying to give certain people an opportunity to skate without so many on the floor but I paid to skate not to sit on the sidelines for more than half the time. I think this is bull and should definitely be removed from the schedule. If you want to give special people time to skate then open a session specifically tailored to that group of people. And Tbh for Saturday nights you should NOT be allowing children even when accompanied by an adult if the floor is THAT crazy wild and fast with OLDER people and teens on the floor tripping left and right over the poor younger ones . Mesa Skateland I absolutely love you. I feel like the rules are a bit excessive, but I get that there to keep everyone safe, so I'm OK following them. I love the crowds this place draws in and the food is not bad. And I love the flooring. It's a great value, a fun time, but please fix your speakers. You can't ever hear anything that the kids are saying on the loudspeaker. Also I might recommend a pre-recorded message of all the rules because you seriously cannot understand any of the guys that speak. read more

This place was like walking back into the 80s Dirty and dingy. We got $40 worth of tokens and most of the machines were out of order or weren't dispensing tickets. Even the girl at the ticket counter was frustrated that the ticket eater machine wasn't working. Feel sorry for the employees who have to deal with this. My daughter is easy to please so it wasn't a total loss, but we will certainly not be returning. read more

All the games are broken. They don't look broken until you use credits and it tells you it has no tokens. So constantly going up to the front to get credits back. $6 for a hand guard rail for kids is an absolute scam when you have that many to give around. What's the reason? I can understand if it's super busy but you have over 50 and you're charging parents $6 so their kid can have a good time. Terrible thinking. I listened to multiple parents moan about having to pay that for their kids when you, like I said, have SO MANY TO GIVE OUT on slow nights. Feels very 80's , which can be a good or bad thing depending on what you like. Kinda pricey for just skating in circles for a couple of hours but it is what it is. Restrooms are so tiny and the stalls are ridiculously short, didnt help when they were also filled with kids messing around. ive been coming here since 2016 and as the time goes on this places really is going under the ground. the floor gaurds are more focused on skaters that know how to skate instead of the skaters that are playing tag running people over and the fact that this is a place that knows me as a regular skater. honestly don't waste your money especially if you want to enjoy yourself. i literally just wanted to come and skate wth my cousin while he was in town and couldnt even skate to decent skate music either. the disappointment is real for the united skates entertainment in arizona. read more

Took my tween on a Friday evening for glow skate night. We had a fun time but I was highly disappointed with their rental skate quality. The skates were so beat up I could feel the huge hole in sole padding where my foot hit bottom of skate! It as almost unbearable but with 10 min my skate broke and fell off my foot while skating! Second pair almost as bad. They need to maintain rentals better. We had fun but would have been more enjoyable if our feet where a bit more comfortable. read more

Pros: I haven't skated in years! Coming here brought back so many good memories of the local skating rink back home. We had a really inexpensive and convenient kids birthday party here. The girls had a great time! Plenty of parking. The attendants were super friendly and helpful. The birthday girl was glowing because they made her feel so special. They do retro and adult only nights. I will definately be back to check those out. Cons: It's an older facility, so it looks a bit dated. We each got a slice of pizza and it tasty because we were hungry. However, I'm pretty sure it was just heated up frozen pizza (which the kids and men love). read more

Back again and not by choice. So what's up with wearing the nasty wrist brands? We can skate at our own risk, have people sign waivers. Next they will have everyone wearing a full padded body suit. Went there tonight as my kids were invited by the schools, but was sad for my kids. They had a special event for kids in charter schools From 5:30 to 8, got there at 5:40 to be stuck outside until 6:50 when we finally got in! Honestly they had minimal staffing and it Showed. My kids patient ran thin and so did mine, this was ridiculous. My son doesn't even like skating but he was stoked to go tonight and now he may never want to go. When I was a kid I loved skating and wanted to share this with him and we've tried time and time again for him to come and have had just as bad waits on both the entry and then the line then the skates. I'd give this place zero stars if I could. Understaffed males for Looooong lines and longer waits for food. While waiting excessively for the food (think 45 min for 2 slices of pizza) we decided to play some games. The skeetball machine was out of tickets and the air hockey next to it didn't spit out the puck. What a joke this place is. Don't waste your time or money, even if it's for a school function. Never been to a skating rink that charges for everything ! I'm from Houston TX so the skating rinks don't charge the little ones for those skate plastic things that help little kids skate I had to pay (($6)) I was highly upset that after I took my purse out to get my cellphone from the locker I couldn't get my key back so now that's another .50 cents they want me to pay. They kept making the kids get off the floor to play games but it was a bunch of teenagers that were participating .. I wouldn't go back I think the only thing my nieces and nephews enjoyed was the pizza that came with their admission fee. read more

I haven't been rollerskating in years, but I really had a lot of fun here! From the pictures online I expected the place to be very childish, but there were a lot of teens and adults out skating on a Saturday night. They have different time slots and the later you go the more likely to have less young kids or birthday parties. The pricing isn't bad, it was $8 for the night I went. The rink itself is big and clean. They sell snacks, drinks, and pizza if you get hungry. They have lockers for you to keep your stuff in, and it costs 50 cents per locker. If I could give 0 stars I would. Completely disgusted by how the skates are cleaned.. only sprayed not wiped down. The cafe area is vile, it's unsanitary for 1 and the food is not well prepared and additionally something is always broken whether that be games or the slushy machine it's never a good experience. It was at Skateland, a dumpy rollerskating rink in a sketchy part of Mesa (with teenage hoodlums loitering outside), and she rented out the entire facility on a Saturday night. I highly recommend it, especially if you do it our way. * DJ spinning electro/indie/latin/new wave/punk * a Heineken keg * Grey Goose * your rockstar costume/wig of choice * Three dozen Central Phoenix/Tempe 20-somethings * Rollerskates * Decently stocked arcade games * Appropriately tacky airbrushed art on the walls What can I say, that's how we roll. Yeah, it's fun to skate and feel like you're 12 all over again, but it's even better when you're older, forgot how to skate, falling flat on your ass, spilling your Grey Goose all over yourself, becoming the Skeeball champion in all of 85210, working hip muscles you never knew you had, and live to tell about it. Weird that my first review is most likely for a 12 year old but I suppose that almost makes sense. A few days ago, I had the pleasure of joining some Yelpers at this little blast-from-the-past event at Skateland in Mesa. I took one whiff of the inside and was instantly taken back to my childhood as flashbacks of trying to pants the Skatasaurus and flipping off the skate guards when they told me to slow down suddenly rushed through me. Also that whiff was filled with the scent of used feet. Or maybe it was the line wrapped around the corner that reminded me of how cool it was to be sneaking drags of cigarettes or sipping grandma's scotch carefully poured into our Jolt cola. Man, that sounds gross now. I think the point is, shit hasn't changed in 20 years, and I'm sure longer, for that matter. Same ol kids running around all over the place, throwing up, crying, and falling on their faces left and right. Same "supercool" DJ playing the same ol games and making the same ol hilarious jokes about having hats. The only difference I noticed was the rental skates actually looked pretty cool. I remember them looking like the inside of a boot with an orange stripe on the back. Not cool. In conclusion, I think Stevey P has it right over there, this place and the time you have there would be ridiculously fun if you did it in adult fashion. I definitely plowed a child and it became real old real quick to be surrounded by other people's kids. Took my girlfriend out to rollerskate for "Ladies Night" it was a joke. During the entire night there were 3 songs for the ladies and 1 couples only song. The DJ spent most of the night kicking everyone off the rink so his friend's could go breakdance in the middle. For several songs I was forbidden from being on the rink simply because I was wearing rental skates, they didn't bother asking what my skill level was. In another moment of the DJ kicking everyone off, he told people to form a single file line then kicked us off for not keeping up because we were told to stay in line, not to pass people who weren't keeping up. Honestly came super close to kicking the DJ in the face, but unfortunately I have common sense. read more

I washed and washed.... but the dirt wont come off! I was an avid skater years ago so when I read about a Yelp event at Skateland I couldn't possibly resist. Plus, it was a Monday- I'm sure it wouldn't be busy! WRONG. I waited in line for almost 30 minutes carrying my heavy skates and standing between two sick children that their [teenage] mothers should have never taken out of the house, let alone skating. Once I paid my entry charge, I went right in since I had my own skates. It looked like the skate line was another hefty wait. The layout of the building is a bit odd in comparison to other places I've skated- there are a lot of drop offs and stairs that can be tricky to navigate in skates. The rink doesn't have a wall for the most part, so there's no safety blanket for those just starting out. There was little order or rule enforcement from employees leaving the floor jam packed with some less than desirable conditions going on. There were a few injuries while I was there, even one bad enough to clear the rink. At the end of the night, a kid barfed in the middle of the seating area, and it was an act of congress to get anyone to clean it up.... the DJ had to announce it over the PA system to get anyone's attention. Gross. That being said, I had a great time at the event, but it was likely because of the good company. I'll give this place another shot, maybe during the week... but I'll likely try the Chandler location first. read more

This place is the rink I go to most often. Their employees are very friendly and have good customer service. Most importantly, their floor is the best overall in AZ. It is a very grippy floor that is bigger than Chandler Skateland and a little bit smaller than Glendale Great Skate but unlike those 2 floors, Mesa Skateland's floor is smooth everywhere and your wheels never slip because it is so well maintained. One thing that I really do not like are Skate Mates. These triangle pvc pipe death traps that are supposed to help little kids and adults skate, (I mean make the rink more money with a $5 extra fee to use them) actually hurt their ability to learn skating and more importantly hurt the person using them. I have seen NUMEROUS times little kids falling right over forward and then trying to get up holding the skate mate which slips out forward from them and falling again and again and again. One time a little kid about 7/8 without any parents (just a skate mate to ''help'') at the rink fell on a turn using a skate mate and snapped his arm. We watched as the fire medical team arrived called his parents and hauled him out. The Skate Mates constantly cause accidents because when they fall with the Skate Mate, it gets pushed far away from them taking out another person or it takes up 3 times the space the kid would take on the floor from falling and then has another person trip on it. I have seen so many people get hurt because of these infernal things. Skate Mates are just a lawsuit waiting to happen (I cant wait until that one happens and the rinks stop using them) and a hazard to EVERYONE including the person using it... Keep in mind that this is not just Mesa Skateland using these things, it is pretty much used in all rinks just to make money. If rinks used common sense to ONLY rent these things out on like a tiny tots or learning to skate session it would be a lot safer and might do good instead of what they have chosen to do to make money. One other thing is that they play their music WAY too loud (probably not the safe legal limit of under 80 db.). If you come here with kids (or want to protect your hearing) please bring earplugs because your ears will be hurting immediately after you walk into the building. Other than those minor inconveniences, the arcade is a little bit better than Chandler Skateland as the machines that go out of order actually get fixed, but still if you come here for only the arcade you will be disappointed. This is (in my opinion) the best overall rink in AZ because of the floor. -1 star for the skate mates -1 star for the loud music (not safe) read more

I love coming here with my daughter; we have fun and it's a great workout! My main complaint is the "lights out" or "laser light" skating; I think when they do this, it should be for a certain age group (maybe 10 and up?) We went for a session yesterday, and right at the end, a child tripped and fell right in front of me. It was too late for me to move, so I had to go down with him. I landed flat on my chest, and if I had not stopped the fall with my hands, my head would have slammed right on the floor. I also had to make sure that I didn't land on the poor kid. The fall knocked the wind out of me, and I am super sore today. I think It goes without saying that many small kids are kind of wild and uncoordianted while skating; the last thing they need to be doing is skating on a dark rink. My suggestion is to clear the floor, and only allow certain ages to skate during those 10 or so minutes. then, allow the younger kids to have their turn for the same amount of time. I think it's a problem that needs to be addressed, epsecially if some of their own staff have been harmed as well (from what I was told). Yeah, we sign waivers, but the company should use a liittle common sense, and try to find ways to create a more safe, fun experience for everyone. read more

Super fun and affordable! The staff has always been super friendly. Me and my family come here once a week, and yes they don't have the best skates, but if you don't own any the cost to rent them is pretty cheap and you get free wrist guards. The DJ plays some chill songs and the crowd is always on the roll. If you can't keep up, that's what the middle is for. read more

What can I say except that the kids love this place and adults are crazy if they feel the same. I remember going when I was a kid, I didnt want to deprive my kids of the same memories. We had my daughter's 6th birthday party here on August 25th. Our host was Nick. I cannot say enough good things about the party and Nick. Everything was scheduled for me as far as time the food comes out, time for cake and singing, and time for a little fun in the DJ booth. A lot of the guests have never skated before, all the staff on the floor was so helpful with teaching them, and making sure they were ok. Nick often checked in with me to see if we needed anything and if we were ok. He was punctual, professional, and so much fun. When my youngest daughter was upset the skate time was over and it was time to dance, he even took her on the dance floor to dance to cheer her up. They did all the set up, the clean up, everything. And it was super affordable. We can't wait to go back. Thank you Skateland for a great birthday party!!! read more

Layout is awkward without a wall or ledge around the skating area for beginners or kids. Very little supervision from the "referees" and several serious injuries occurred, clearing the floor for several minutes when one child was knocked out cold. Skates are in really bad shape as well. One referee arrived to work his shift with an 6" knife strapped to his belt, which was concerning. We'll try the Chandler location next time if we return. read more
