I have taken my kids twice for skate lessons and myself once. It was great. The establishment appears updated and the skates are definitely updated. Food and service nice, no complaints. Poorly managed, unsafe for young children and dingy. Bathrooms are dirty and the place smelled like a locker room. Layout is awkward without a wall or ledge around the skating area for beginners or kids. Very little supervision from the "referees" and several serious injuries occurred, clearing the floor for several minutes when one child was knocked out cold. Skates are in really bad shape as well. One referee arrived to work his shift with an 6" knife strapped to his belt, which was concerning. We'll try the Chandler location next time if we return. read more

For a bit of a throwback Skateland is still a lot of fun. The price is fairly reasonable with admission and skate rental being at most 13 dollars. The rink is laid out well and there are lockers to put your stuff in. The biggest issue here is slow service and the ac. It is extremely hot regardless of how many people are actually there. Came for a weekend skate with my girlfriend and her little sister. Employees were all very nice, and courteous. Interior design was a bit lacking, as building is pretty dated and little to no effort was made to cover up the cinderblock construction. Seemed very 80s or 90s but not really in a good way. Food prices were good, but food itself was lackluster. I wanted a slice of pizza that was advertised on the menu and was told slices were not available and I'd have to buy a whole pizza that would take about 30 minutes to bake. Settled for a hot dog and watched as the stale bun crumbled apart after the first bite, but I guess I shouldn't expect a whole lot when it was $2. read more

Went for a school function. Had a great time. The place is out dated, dingy, with an odor, and skate were for sure just old. I did like that they had skate walkers/helpers for the beginners for a cost of $6, kind fell like it should be less or no charge, just so you can build a little confidence, at a school function for little ones. Most of the kids just need them for a little bit then they got the hang of it. Also you get wrist protectors with the skate rental. Staff was barely noticeable after you get in you wait for skates and walkers. Lots of video games to play and a little snack bar. read more

Skateland, they keep telling us in their ads that they are the world's best place for birthday parties! In August, they had a special where you get 15 guests for the price of 10 for every birthday reserved that month, so we paid the deposit that day for my daughter and her friend who share September birthdays. By the way, it's not 15 guests, they include the birthday child as a guest, so we could only invite 13 kids between the 2 of us. They say that each party has a minimum of 10 guests, it's really only 9 plus the birthday child. They told us that we could request the character for the hooky pokey, since we were the only party reserved for that date at that point, we booked over a month in advance. They called and said they probably wouldn't be able to do olaf as we had requested, I said, okay, what other options are there? Do you know who they have chosen for this date? They said they would call back. They didn't. The character the day of the party was spongebob, who they said would dance with the birthday children, he was there, but on the other side of the rink, so i couldnt get a good picture and then he walked off and didnt even stop for pictures after. we had to run after him so i could get pictures of the birthday girls with spongebob. The first thing they said to me when I walked in was to give me the balance I owed for those 5 extra kids and ask where my coupon was for that...all that info was stapled to the receipt. She said she would have to talk to the manager, she okayed that part and then they said I would have to pay extra for the 16th child. What 16th child? Well, it turns out that one of the moms brought the sibling of the guest. She explained that she would pay for the extra child. The hostess put him on my guest list anyway. Each party comes with a private host. Our host showed up at the beginning to get the money, that was the only time I saw her. Her co workers eventually stood in for her, but when i asked them to refill our 'bottomless' pitcher (we also purchased 2 more 'bottomless' pitchers for the adults, when we asked for refills they said that was extra) they paged her to do it and she never showed up. She was apparently busy with the several other parties that were there. We never did get them refilled with soda, and i didnt even get to pick the soda because i was trying to figure out the finances with the manager for the majority of the party. When I finally figured out what had occurred, we asked them to take the extra child off the guest list and gave them the $6 for the admission and rental for this child, which is what they had told me it would be for extra guests who just wanted admission and rental. They said that I would have to pay the full $10.99 for this child since they already put him on the guest list, and everything was already out for the party. {it wasn't. they didnt give the tokens until they brought the cake out, then they took the cake to slice it and i was chasing after the kids, because of course they went off to spend their tokens and were gone by the time the cake came back, and because of this we never got a chance to open presents until the party was over, which was what my child wanted to do first but the hostess was MIA.} I gave them the money, and they said 'no, pay for it at the end, we have wasted a lot of time with this already.' no kidding. I didn't get to even skate with my child at all, because in the middle of the party they brought us our bill, they said we now owed them $20 because they forgot to charge us for the extra birthday child. They explained to me when I purchased the package that it is an additional $10 because each child gets a souvenir cup, and a trip to the air machine. Well, neither one of the girls got either of those things. There is no air machine, even. but hey, it could have been worse, the day we booked the party a roach was crawling across the table...at least that didnt happen again today. My daughter had a blast but the one thing she wanted was to skate with her parents and this was robbed from us, because at skateland, all they care about is the money. If you havent been to skateland in the last couple decades, the only thing new is a fresh coat of lime green paint. You aren't missing anything. It's not worth $120, thats for sure. read more

Absolutely terrible! I've loved roller skating my entire life and thought it would be fun to introduce my 3 year old to it. However, this experience has changed my mind completely! The skates were broken and wouldn't latch shut, they didn't have the correct size skates and wrist guards for my son. The place was dirty and the workers didn't care to help my concerns. The only positive thing I can say is they gave us our money back when we chose to leave. read more

Been here twice in the past couple of weeks now- one for a friend's 31st birthday party and also for my daughter's school fundraiser. The fundraisers are always popular and fun- the kids love to see each other outside of school. It's a cheap way to kill a couple of hours. The birthday party was a private one. Adults only with alcohol. It was a blast- having the rink to yourself and no kids was probably the best time I've ever had at a skating rink. Yeah, it's not the cleanest place, and yeah the food is a step below movie food, but you can overlook that and still have a good time. It's one of the cheaper entertainments in the valley, and it won't be my last time there. It's like a dive-bar skating rink! read more

It has not changed much in the past 20 years! But after visiting the Chandler location I realize how much I like the Mesa location better!!! The layout is great and the floor is so smooth which makes skating so much more fun and a breeze! I love the benches that you can sit on along the north side of the rink-- genius!! Called ahead to make sure I did not waste gas for nothing since my 3yr old and 8yr old wanted to try out skating. Was told public skate 6-9 I thought beautiful! So we go we arrive at 6:20 to be told they are closing in 10 minutes and reopening at 7:30. I asked why I was informed differently and the guy could not provide a good explanation on why the hours of operation were all of a sudden different. So needless to say there was no skating which disappointed the young ones as we were not going to sit around for an hour for them to reopen. read more

They won't let you wear a hat (even a tightly fitted one) and skate. Their pizza is gross and their people suck. (Two left skate rentals requires going back to the back of the line to remedy). Ridiculous. read more

Very fun outing for our family. We visited as part of a school trip and it was our kids first time skating--so it was a bit of an adventure. For new skaters they rent skate mates (a pvc pipe contraption with wheels) to help new skaters learn how to skate and they rent them for $5 (which is a bit steep but useful). read more

Great place to skate. Employees are friendly and responsive. Skating referees and instructors help keep it safe on the skating floor. Birthday parties are a terrific deal, the birthday child gets free entry passes for future visits. Good mix of musical styles. Keep in mind that some ordered food can take time due to staff attending to multiple duties, so if you want it fast, you can order what's already out and kept hot. I recommend the big fresh baked cookies! Rent skates or bring your own. Wrist guards are required but are provided free of charge. Free guest WiFi. Check the website for deals and special sessions. Every Monday is either a dollar or a penny plus skate rental, so I spend my Monday nights here with my husband and best friend. The people that work here are friendly and so are the skaters that have more skill in one toe than my entire body. ;) Holidays kinda suck because there is always a million people, but I love it here!! read more

3.5 stars, and this is simply a review of the surface, the price, and the crowds. for starters: i remember a wooden floor back in the 80's, i believe it was called Rollerland, over on McDowell? and 23rd avenue. i guess Skateland, et al, all you can find is epoxy-coated concrete. so, after growing up skating and giving it up for other hobbies around 16, i finally have a Wiff and Chiddrens. we went on a saturday and got some rental skates, had the birthday pizza and snacks, got back into the groove. immediately got better skates for the four of us. so sunday, evening... not a big crowd. lots of kids to be sure, but easily maneuverable. music is modern top forties, i guess. kid stuff. sunday, btw, is 1 dollar skating. you just cannot beat that. they do a backwards skate, a couples skate, a couple of games like Red Light/Green Light (for free tickets, etc.) and the Hokey Pokey w/ Spongebob or the Frozen guy Olaf. somehow my son of 8 seemed to be hitting a lucky streak as he had zero tokens for the games, found one on the floor and turned it into 64 tickets. my daughter of 6 stayed out on the floor for about 3 hours, learning her moves. the walker/skate mate is a thing of the past. overall, it's a skating rink. if you come here for the food, you have poor taste. the bathrooms are small but were clean, there is a drinking fountain, the rental skates are true to size as far as i can tell. i'd like to return for Adult night, maybe they play some modern rock, and let you get up to speed. if that happens soon, i'll update this review. read more

The floor guards here are terrible. Very unprofessional and not looking to entertain anyone but themselves or the regulars. The Pizza is no good. (But what do you expect it's a roller rink). And they have you sign waivers and skate at your own risk but you can't do anything but skate forward VERY slowly. You also have to wear wrist guards, they rent them. (Wouldn't recommend renting them, there was human poop on the wrist guards they handed out to me. Probably from some child wiping their butt) The Ice Skating rinks in Phoenix have proven to be more fun. I highly recommend checking one of them out read more

I come from working at a rink in SLC for 20 years. My wife and I came to skateland in Mesa for their dollar skate night on Mondays. This information is known online and as we approached the business front doors. We noticed a line out the door and figured it was because of the dollar skate night. We waited in line for a good 25 minutes, I filled out the waiver form for myself and my wife decided she wasn't going to skate but simply be a spectator. We get to the window to pay and tell the cashier one for skating and one spectator, I have my own skates and didn't need to rent any. The girl clicks a few buttons on the register and then says..."That'll be $12.88." I told her we came for the dollar night posted on the building and the web and she politely tells me that they are doing an all you can eat pizza buffet tonight and the price is $5.95 per person including spectators. So I asked for a manager and the manager told us the same thing. They wouldn't honor the dollar skate price that was clearly visible. They also didn't have a single flier advertising this event. We ended up leaving and going home. Rinks are meant to be a fun and exciting time, you go and skate with friends and family and leave with a smile on your face, we left feeling very angry. Not to mention all the rules listed on the waiver form. No skating backwards regardless of skating level experience. This made me so angry all I want to do now is get the funding to open my own rink nearby and show these morons how to run a successful and most important FUN skating rink. Do not waste your time and money with this place, if you need a skating rink go up to SLC and check out Classic Fun Center in Sandy. read more

If a four year old notices the poor organizational effectiveness and management, cleanliness, wait times, nasty wrist guards... it's time to make a change. Overall, the kids had a great time and I love roller skating. They played games and the Dj let it appropriate for the kiddos. The employees were mostly great but severely understaffed and poorly managed. I felt bad for them, it was hard for them to Lee up with the demand being so understaffed and poorly managed. It was unacceptable to say the least. I'll probably go again because it's the closest one to me but I will look for my own skates (at least for the kids) and DEFINITELY bring your own wrist guards. We (my husband and I) have been coming to this skateland for more than 20 years. We started when we were in junior high school. This facility has certainly improved over the years. The interior has been updates and the place is a lot cleaner than it used to be. Our 5 year ols just started going there. First for a school fundraiser and then for a birthday party. She has loved skating so much, we bought her a pair for Christmas. We plan on being here a lot in the coming years. Please keep up the good work. Oh! And I would just like to say the skate assistors would have been very useful back in the early 90's! :) read more

Ive been a return customer of Skateland Mesa for many years. I have skated at all of the skating rinks in the valley and all are great but my favorite by far is the Mesa location. The employees are always cheerful and helping. Management is very quick to address issues and very knowledgeable. Ive meet many friends there over the years that will be friends of mine for life. Ive become a big fan of the Monday night adult skate session. I am always inviting my friends that dont skate to join me and have made skaters out of many. Skateland Mesa is a safe, clean, and fun place to go. read more

We go here every summer while we are in Mesa on vacation and this summer has been the best. The staff has definitely improved. Nicolas the DJ made our day here great! He is the main reason we had a good time. Lots of energy and super helpful and fun. Lots of fun things to do for a dollar like pop a balloon for a prize or spin the wheel for tickets at the DJ booth. Also noticed lots of good looking posters advertising all sort of fun events for the summer. The place was clean and not too crowded. We usually go only once a summer but we are definitely going back before we head home. read more

Had my son's birthday party here and it totally rocked! Clean, fun, bright facility with friendly, energetic and helpful staff. Pizza was from frozen and added to, but hey, it's a roller rink, not a restaurant. We will come back for regular skating, and definitely recommend the parties! read more
