I am enjoying the resurgence of arcade bars here in the Valley. Since moving to Mesa, I have been making stops here at Level One Arcade Bar. I love the chill vibe and their selection of classic arcade games. Games use tokens or quarters that you can get from the token machine. Level One Arcade Bar is a two-story venue and has a wide array of pinball machines and arcade games. They opened in 2019 in Downtown Mesa and have a Valley Metro light rail stop nearby. Each floor features its own bar with each of them having around 30 beers on tap. The second level has majority of the pinball machines. You will find me playing classics like 1943, Galaga, Mortal Combat, Tekken 3, Area 51, Mario Bros and Street Fighter. I am also a big pinball junkie. They have darts here at Level One and we have had fun playing them when I have come here with groups of friends. Check out the speakeasy behind the building if you want to hang out in a cool 20s vibe atmosphere with a cocktail. It is called Alchemy 48. Under 21 is permitted with a parent or guardian until 7pm and must by supervised. Happy Hour is 3pm - 7pm Monday to Friday.

I also made sure that this was the fast version Ms Pac Man as there is a regular version Ms Pac Man and I don't like that one. I scoped out the machine first before deciding to get a beer. The place was pretty empty when I came in and I was able to play two games of Ms Pac Man and enjoy my beer at the same time. They also put little side tables by the arcade, so you have a place to set down your drink as you play. Lots of old school video games here including Tetris and Dr Mario! We ordered burgers and chicken sandwich with the $35 game card which then cost us $39 for the meal and the pay card. The human crane was $20 extra to do and it had blow up pool like toys in it. Understandably they're there to keep everyone within their designated ~42 inch square but realistically there's no way to aim here, you will absolutely smack your mouse into the bumper if your normal sens exceeds 15cm/180. That math might sound kinda funky but they have a full 100% keyboard with a numpad, so you lose all that space in practice unless you curl up in a wildly unnatural position and rest the keyboard on the plastic bumpers but nothing I did even remotely made this place comfortable. It's as if they've never had anyone play a shooter here, or everyone who ever has had an eDPi of 12000 or higher. They aren't really equipped for MMOs either, every mouse in sight was a Razer Deathadder Essential, no Nagas or Scimitars or even a knockoff 12 button, so unless you're clicking your buttons or reaching to the = key naturally on a full sized keyboard you're crippled. I picked up a 5 hour session off the rip because my buddies in town and I only have one PC in my place, I couldn't even survive 30 minutes here before just giving up and deciding to watch him play, but even a guy who never gets to play, who really wants to play, couldn't survive more than an hour and a half of his five hours. Side note, we pushed in our chair to make space to walk through the aisle and the light rattle of the desk sent a PC for a whole bootloop back to BIOS. If you aren't desperate it's something, but don't come here for Overwatch or Valorant or CSGO or really any shooter.

We originally found them through Groupon, but when we visited their website, we noticed they were offering a 25% off promotion from July 3rd through July 5th, so we decided to take advantage of that deal. They offer both a 9-hole and an 18-hole mini golf course. The 18-hole option costs a little more, but with the promotion, it was a great value. We opted for the 9-hole course and had a wonderful time. The staff was very friendly, explained everything clearly, and made the check-in process easy. Since we purchased our tickets online in advance, we were able to pre-check in for our reserved time slot. It was fairly busy because of the holiday weekend, but the course flowed well. Guests simply waited for the group ahead to finish each hole before moving on, which kept things organized. They also have a restaurant and bar inside, making it easy to grab food and drinks before or after your game. We noticed they offer happy hour specials from 3:00 PM to 6:00 PM, although I'm not certain if those specials are available on weekends. Overall, we had a great experience and would definitely visit again if we're in the area. It's a bit of a drive for us, but it was well worth the trip for a fun family outing.

And the main difference is automatic scoring via ball sensors (which means I couldn't cheat, lol). I actually never keep score when I play mini golf. But I do like getting extra tries. The place was pretty busy, so it probably wouldn't be a good idea anyway. The holes are playful and creative, but more flashy than challenging. I'm no pro though so I'm fine with that. After getting a hole-in-one on the first two holes, I was feeling pretty confident. I know it was partly luck, lol. Not surprisingly, it didn't last. I had fun, that's what matters.
