If I could give this place 0 stars I would. Sad thing is it's not even because of the facility or the things they offer, it's because the attitude of all the employees here. Guard dog lady at the very front of the entrance is for lack of a better word a see you next Tuesday if you catch my drift. Yelled at me because I had a coffee and said to throw it away, then proceeded to say she couldn't take debit and yelled at me to take money out of the ATM. Also party room is not great, hot and lowkey smelly. My daughter and I have been skating at Skateland West along with our friends ever since the start of the year. We have always had a very positive experience. The staff is super friendly, attentive and add a lot of fun to every skate session. The location is truly ideal to those living in Medina County -it's a straight shot down Hwy 90. Admission pricing is very affordable and they also offer Saturday morning lessons for anyone just starting out. I have skated here since I was in elementary school. My family has never had a bad experience here. The skates are good enough (bring your own insoles). I like the music. When I was a kid, I liked the games. I've even seen a proposal happen where the staff are in on it. read more

Skating lessons with Casey (KC?) on Saturday mornings from noon to 1pm for $7 then you can stay until 5 and skate. Casey is amazingly patient with the kids and so good with them. I can see him breaking so many little girls hearts. The floor is a little uneven but it's an old rink and I love to skate there. read more

They would not allow me to come in with my attire, and did not inform me of this until after they took my money. Why don't the two ladies restrooms stalls have doors? In a day and time where anyone can go into the restroom of the sex of their choice, I don't want my young daughter in a doorless restroom, nor do i as the adult chaperone care to use the restroom without any privacy. Gave them another chance. They put doors on the restroom. It was about time. We need privacy. They fixed the restroom floor. Prices for entry okay. Prices on food to high. Music is still inappropriate for children and i even came in a Thursday family night, But no change on music. Children are the reason they are open. Why not make it more kid friendly??? They don't have credit card purchase, But they have an ATM that charges to be used. The carpet still smells muggy. Customer service is horrible. This is by far the worst skating rink I've ever been to the staff does not make you feel welcome at all every 15 mins they cut off the music to play some games like people even with your skates pay full price then I've never heard of you can't skate fast might as well just walk on the floor in actual skating rinks the faster more experienced skaters are on the outside and less experienced on the inside and signs that say skate at your own risk your going to fall it's OKAY it's a part of learning how to skate then the staff is so lazy they gonna shut down the rink early so they can start packing up and kick everybody out on the dot unacceptable like I payed full price to practice to some early 2001 music straight garbage but they won't say nothing to local skaters flying past you or cutting you off the floor was FILTHY also definitely will never skate here ever again. read more

I Love, Love, Love to skate and this is the only place in San Antonio that I will skate at. I have been skating all my life and I am now 44 and I'm still loving every minute at this skating rink. They have newer skates so if you get an old pair just tell them you want a newer pair and they will get them for you! They also sell new skates. Don't come here often but seems the same every time. There is an area on the floor that was patched work all the way back when I was a teen. I'm 34 now, it's bumpy every time you go over it. Kids come to hang out and instigated fights, talk bad to the police that are present. Floor staff is young and never correct kids going in reverse direction, hanging out on the skate rink bars. This establishment has very scrumptious rugs. They reek of cheese. Creepy old men spectating when the rink is mainly children. Food and refreshments ade SEVERELY over priced. Pretty jenky place in a pretty jenky neighborhood, but a good time with the kids if you accept it for what it is. It's cheap...9 dollars a person which includes skate rentals. The floor is mostly ok...couple of rough patches. They don't seem to do a good job of keeping it clean. The skates are old and gross and weigh about 15 lbs a piece, but they work. Another person suggested bringing your own insoles, and I think that's probably a great idea. Music is decent...not always appropriate for kids, but not complete trash. They claim a dress code, but saw some absurdly scantily clad females that drew no attention from the staff...meanwhile a toddler wearing a cap caused repeated loudspeaker reminders that hats are not allowed. The middle of skating, clear the floor stupid games they play are also somewhat annoying and unnecessary. Staff was friendly enough. They have a leave and can't come back in policy which is just stupid and could be solved with something as simple as a cheap hand stamp. And they seem to be all over the place and quite selective with their "everyone must pay to come in" policy. You can use a credit card for entry but everything else is cash only...a bit of a pain. And really, get with the times. And finally...bathrooms are awful. No locks on the doors and the toilets are so low and the doors so high you're liable to see someone's bits with the simple act of checking to see if a stall is occupied. Just...try to go before you get there and don't drink too much. Will I go again, for sure...tons of active fun for school aged children. But it could be improved in so many ways. read more

Wasn't impressed at all. First of all, this place is CASH ONLY. Don't see a lot of places like that anymore. They do have an ATM but now you are paying extra fees you weren't planning on. One of the kids in our group decided not to skate after all and no refunds policy. Understandable, but still left us upset. One of the skates were torn on the inside. The staff wasn't very friendly. I don't think I saw them smile any of the time we were there. The only staff member I saw smile was the DJ, he got to go out on the floor and skate. They also do NOT have the little push helpers made of the pvc pipes for the younger kids. This isn't there fault, but we did see a child pulling money out of the gum all machine. We did let the employee know and he did catch him but the kid kept the quarters. He actually gave them to his mom to put in her purse. read more

The rink itself is nice inside and we'll kept, however, I am a new skater with a roller derby league and the establishment will not allow protective gear to be worn I.e. knee and elbow pads and wrist guards for fear of ruining their floor. I went on Sunday with my child for lessons for both of us (I wanted to learn how to skate backwards). The lessons were really geared towards first-time skaters. Much more affordable than lessons at Rollercade and you get to stay for open skating for free. From the outside, the place looks a little run-down, and the bathrooms are very bare-bones, but what I really liked about this rink is that, although it was busy enough, the rink wasn't overly crowded. Basically, it was just like Rollercade, but a little bit more bare-bones, and less crowded. The less-crowded-ness is a huge bonus. Also, cheaper lessons and cheaper skates if you want to buy your own. Whatever amount you pay to buy your skates, you get as a credit for admission! They call it "Free Skates." They also mentioned speed skating lessons on Fridays 6-7, which is not advertised on their website. Pretty cool. read more

WAS VERY DISAPPOINTED!!! I had my daughter's party there this weekend lets just say i will never return for a party there again. First they lost one of my daughters gifts from her uncle and aunt. When we asked them about it they said they wouldnt ask other parties because no one will return it. All i can say is at least they gave my aunt money for the missing gift but still come on she took time to go get thia gift for her niece. Then when i had 1 kid not want to skate after all from my party they said they couldnt refund me my money because they already had the ticket. My party was there eating hotdogs with no drinks we had to wait a while for our drinks. Then after all my kids for the party left they brought out the ice cream late. They never mention her party i had to go get all the kids myself from the skate floor to join us. This was our third time visiting as part of a school group. I have four kids, 10, 8, 7, and 3. Their skates here are super slick, making it very easy to fall because your legs fly out from under you. My youngest wasn't a big fan of not even being able to even stand up, but at least for our first two visits, they let me walk out there with him and try to help him. Before our third visit, I bought him the kind that go over his shoes so he could just scoot along. I thought it would give him some confidence and he was so excited! We had just walked in the door, however, when the woman at the front desk told me that he wasn't allowed to wear them (she didn't give a reason). When I told her that he tried their skates and couldn't even stand up because they were way too slick, she didn't care. In fact, she made me pay for him to just walk in the door even though I told her he wouldn't be skating! Since I already paid, I decided to let him try their skates one more time. But this time, not only was he not able to wear his own skates that he was so excited to wear, but they wouldn't even let me walk out there and help him try to stand up on their super slick skates of death! They said I couldn't go out there because I wasn't skating. I'm pregnant and I can't skate to begin with so there was no way I was taking that risk. So now, I'm stuck paying for a toddler that I have to somehow entertain for the next couple of hours while my big kids skate. First of all, if they are going to make rules, they need to at least be consistent! The first two times we came here, there were kids with the same type of skates that they refused to let my child skate with this time. And I was allowed to walk out there with shoes to help my son the first two times, no problem! Also, there are people out there pushing strollers around! Strollers are OK, but my son can't wear his skates? Seriously?! Lastly, as soon as I told her my toddler wouldn't be skating, she shouldn't have made me pay. Having to pay for my toddler to walk around bored and disappointed is unbelievable! Needless to say, we won't be coming back. Figure your stuff out, Skateland West! read more

Good neighborhood skating rink. Plenty of parking and discounted coupons from the local schools have encouraged us to be recurring customers here for five years. As a parent, I appreciate the entry rules: paying customers only. Recent renovations, such as lighter paint, brighter lights, and updated snack bar, were nice improvements to the establishment. Regarding music warnings from other yelpers, what is being referred as inappropriate is in fact American top 40 music. If you are uncomfortable with your children listening to FM radio, then this might not be the venue for your family. read more

This place that caters to children and entertainment is beyond disgusting. My 14 yr old son stepped into the quite entrance way to make a call to me to ensure I was on the way to get him. Unfortunately the door shut behind him and he was told that he could not go back in and to get out before security was called. Sad to say this is no longer the place we went to as children. I had a lot of very fond memories there from my youth and trusted that I would feel secure dropping my son there to spend time with his friends. I called to inquire about this policy and speak to the coward that kicked my child out. All she had to say was that there is no in n out and that they were not concerned for his safety. If he wanted to go back in he would have to pay another entrance fee. Apparently money is more important than the safety of a minor child. I am truly disgusted at the moment.
