Wow what a find. Skeeters sits on top of a hill in shamokin dam PA. . I had the baby back ribs and beef brisket. Brisket is melt in your mouth. The ribs have a dry rub on them that I find I enjoy more, no mess. The smoke flavor really comes out with the dry rub. The platters come with beans which were really good. I ordered a side of their chilli which has brisket in it. Fantastic. Less then $20..for my meal. Hunt this place down and enjoy. read more

It's located on a hill so it can be easily overlooked. I didn't know if this place was a restaurant or BBQ site for camping. It's not like a restaurant, it's more like a fast food place. As soon as you enter, you order your food and the waitress brings your food to your table. So, the price was surprisingly reasonable. I ordered baby rib combo. It comes with ribs, corn bread, cole slaw and a drink cup.That cost me around $8.99. I think it's a bargain for this quantity and quality. I left this place very happy. Can I give 0 stars? The (so called) pitmaster has no idea how to smoke a brisket. It was as tough as shoe leather. When I asked why I was told it was cooked to 165!!! Really! Brisket must be takes to 200 at a minimum to be tender! The pork was super dry and the robes were an embarrassment to barbecue! This isn't bbq it's garbage! read more

After having Rudy's in San Antonio, this place was a disappointment. Dry brisket, overcooked ribs with what appeared to be both a dry rub and a barbecue sauce on them. Not very good. Not horrible, but not great. During the day the view is probably pretty nice as it sits on a bluff over looking the Susquehanna river. I would not go out of my way to go back. This was the coldest bbq I have ever had. Brisket seemed like it sat out for hours at room temperature. I don't even think it was properly cooked. The pork same deal. I called in and ordered food for pick up. That process was seamless. However, when I went to pick up my order, the woman at the counter was curt. She demanded I wear a mask, yet I observed a staff member in the kitchen that was mask-less. The woman at the counter lacked customer service skills. This is one of my favorite places for barbecue. I absolutely love it there! The food is delicious and the staff are always very cordial. My husband and I like to look down at the water below and quite often we would see boats and various people enjoying the water. The atmosphere is delightful. I can't wait to go back. I love the coleslaw and the ribs too. The service is pretty good. We got our food and enjoyed everything. When we have business up in that area, we try to go and enjoy Skeeters. read more

Last visit I ordered a pulled pork sandwich. I didnot get any smoke flavor what so ever. I honestly doubt this place smokes most of their meat. Sides were decent but the visit could have been made better with a variety of BBQ sauces. For example spicy BBQ, Alabama white sauce, or even a good mustard. They had signs to request distancing and mask use, offered hand sanitizer, and fixed plexiglass between booths, which I appreciated. However, every server and staff member I could see had their mask covering only their mouth and not their nose. They also didn't enforce mask wearing for customers and people were walking around, getting drinks and condiments without masks. I was blown away by the carelessness. To me, it negates every other change the restaurant made. I couldn't eat, but my friends liked their soup and wraps so 2 stars for that. read more

The ambiance is beautiful rustic with a country vibe. The scenery is worth the trip up the mountain to see the Susquehanna. The smoked meats are good and the cornbread will amaze you with the sweetness and buttery flavor. The chili is vegetable soup, not chili at all and the price is high for the entrees. Been here three times now and I started out liking it and every time I've come back it seems to gradually slide further down my list.Location is spectacular...high up on a hill with gorgeous view of the Susquehanna River....5 stars for the view alone. But the BBQ? Meh.....I've had way better. Lets start with what they charmingly refer to as "Baked Beans"....there is no baking involved. Open a can of white beans scoop out said beans with juice into a dish and squirt some BBQ sauce on top and you have made Skeeters beans....yuck. The cornbread muffins are....ok. Honey glaze on top but want my muffin relatively soft, not hard as a brick on top. Had the combo platter on the last visit....they serve the pulled chicken and pork on two huge slabs of Texas toast which gets progressively soggier and soggier as you eat. Wish they had a bigger variety of BBQ sauces to offer ( spicy, kc style, or Carolina style maybe?) the one they serve is not very memorable....... Pork and chicken were average in terms pf flavor, brisket was ok but a little overdone and dry. My one pet peeve is that I asked to substitute the grilled veggies for the coleslaw since I'm not a coleslaw fan......and was told no can do. Can only substitute French fries, or more beans.......seriously? even if I'm willing to pay extra? I cannot have something relatively healthy as a substitute....Wow. This place is at the top of my list when it comes to a last minute dinner decision. Consistently good food and friendly service. I'm with Noah. The chicken fingers/tenders here are absolutely fantastic. I know it's not the first thing one might think to order at a BBQ joint, but they are absolutely house-made and very tasty. The chicken and corn soup is another favorite. Fries are good. Honestly, I'm not a huge fan of their BBQ sauce, but it's quality and you can't please everyone. Pulled pork, ribs and brisket were fine--not the most succulent I have ever had, but pretty good restaurant fare. The corn bread was sweet and the beans were actually cooked there, not poured from a can. I know there are a number of reviews here which blast this place, but I will eat here again. It is so strange because if you do not know what Skeeter's is, you would think it to be a fancy BBQ restaurant up on the hill overlooking the Susquehanna River. In actuality, it is a order at the counter, get a number, have your food delivered to your table restaurant. I was assured some of their food is gluten free and nothing has ever made me ill there, so, Yay! The food is pretty good. I usually get a salad with meat on it, but I haven't been liking it because the meat comes out cold on the cold salad, and I don't like cold BBQ meat. Maybe I hit a bad night... I had been on the road for 5 hrs. with 6 more to go so this looked like a great place to stop for supper on a Tuesday night at 6:30 p.m. I wish I had been there during the day because the view would probably have been tremendous. Driveway entrance in the dark a bit tricky coming from the south. Not sure how it would be from the north since you would also have to cross traffic while on a downgrade. Clean interior, not fancy, a lot of wood. Pretty typical BBQ joint but well kept. Took a table and not a booth and although I'm 5' 11" I found the table very high. A shorter person should get a booth for sure. There must be a lot of regulars because the staff clearly expected me to know that it was the kind of place where you place an order at a counter and they then serve it to you at your table of choice when the order is ready. Once you get the food you don't see them again. I ordered the most expensive item- a combo platter with pulled pork and brisket ($1.00 extra) for $16.99. There is a good selection of beverages. The place was not busy and food came after about 7 minutes. Boy was I disappointed. Here's the rundown. At first I thought, "Wow, a good helping of meat," Then I discovered that each meat lay on top of a thick slice of very burnt toast so that was two disappointments in one. The brisket was moist but had no flavour and there wasn't much of it. The bark seemed to have no seasonings at all. Not even smoke taste evident. It came without sauce. The pulled pork came with some sauce on top. It was a bit dry and it too had little taste.Portion size for this was middle range. The only BBQ sauce at table was a tomato base, thin, with a great deal of vinegar. For sides I had the corn bread and the cole slaw. The corn bread was a a small mini-muffin. Unfortunately, it was extremely dry but had fairly standard flavor. The cole slaw was creamy, decent taste but very soupy. After I had eaten the slaw there was almost 1/2 inch of liquid left in the bottom of the small bowl. I would say come for the view if you're there in the daytime and maybe try some other items on the menu. The BBQ was tasteless, covered in wet sauce; at least the sauce had some flavor to it. The cole slaw was cabbage with some mayo, no vinegar, no salt, no flavor. The baked beans were the best part of the meal, but they reminded me of a can of Bush's baked beans. The view of the river is fantastic and the people were very nice and helpful. But, even with the view and people, I went there for BBQ. I like to give a place a couple of tries before I give up, but I am going to make an exception this time. read more

The worst bbq I've had in a very long time. The brisket tasted like corned beef. I have a feeling they parboiled it first, or dunked it and let it sit after smoking (assuming it was smoked first). The 'smoked wings' have NO smoke flavor. The pulled pork isn't smoky or good at all. The best part was the pickle served on the side. im not sure how this place manages to get high marks from so many people. I guess when you are on a long road trip anything is good. I really have nothing good to say about the food they actually make here, you get to little and you pay to much. The little you do get is usually bland and tough. The only good things i have to say about this place is that the service is very good, the building is great and the view is stellar..... i really think the location is the only thing keeping this place in business since the "chef" or "pit master" sure isnt. read more
