The iced teas were not refilled for free. The cups used were styrofoam and were not reused for tea refill. So four straws, two teas and two styrofoam cups were $10.20. My husband and I were driving back to Baltimore from the Finger Lakes about a week ago and decided it was the perfect time to check out the Fence Drive In! The Fence Drive In looks charmingly old, and it does have a long history in Milton! It was once a tent restaurant (called "the Breezy Tent") which opened in the 1930s. The owners then built a permanent structure on the site in 1951. After several floods that almost destroyed the building, the owners sold it in 1975. Since then it's been owned by the Rabb family (now run by the second generation), and they've maintained the historical charm of the restaurant. Today, it's still a drive in with car hop service. The restaurant is right on the Susquehanna River, and they have several comfortable picnic tables facing the water with some twinkly lights over them, too. While this looked incredibly charming, we wanted the classic car hop experience for our first visit. So we drove up, parked, and waited just a minute or two for a waitress to come out to our car with a menu. Later, she brought our food out to us on the tray that clips on on to the driver-side window. It's an incredible bit of Americana that is almost gone now, but you can have that vintage experience at the Fence Drive In! Their menu has the classics you expect (burgers, hot dogs, milkshakes) with lots of seafood options as well (fish sandwich, shrimp). We shared a cheeseburger with everything (ketchup, mustard, onion, relish) and their scallop basket (lightly breaded and fried scallops) on top of French fries, with a side of coleslaw. The food was great. The burger was a classic. The scallops were really well fried - the breading was light the scallops got a crisp on the outside but weren't overcooked. The service was friendly and fast. They are a cash only establishment, but that just adds to the retro charm. It's a gem. It's not a just a quick restaurant to grab a bite at; they're preserving an American classic. So stop by the ATM inside if you need to, but definitely stop by The Fence In for a great meal and some nostalgia if you're anywhere near Milton PA. read more

Great nostalgic little spot! Pull in or go inside their little "hut" of a dining area. Please know they're cash only but they do have an atm. Super cute and clean inside. Sit at the table and someone will come take your order. Not a huge selection but perfect for a lunch with friends or family. It was raining so we couldn't sit at the picnic table to enjoy the river but a great spot. My parents went there on their second date 50 years ago and hadn't been back since, so my wife and I took them there for lunch before our drive home. When we saw it was a lot of fried foods, honestly we were disappointed, but when we ate we were pleasantly surprised. Aside from my son who got the fried chicken, the rest of us got some form of seafood platters which were delicious. The dining room was clean, service was excellent with the waitress stoping by twice to make sure we were good. Next time we go, and there will absolutely be a next time, we'll get more shrimp (which were large) and some burgers. This place has the best fish sandwiches and chocolate milkshakes. The fries are good too. It's like the old time drive in - sorta. You can pull up in you car to the fence they have and turn your headlights on. They will come to you and out a number on your car. They will take your order. When the food comes out they bring it with a tray that hooks onto your window. Service is excellent here. You get a great view on the River depending on where you park. If you don't want to sit in you car, you can park elsewhere and they have picnic tables you can sit at. Keep in mind if you come here. They only take cash. No cards. This spot is doing everything they can to keep the customer safe from Covid. My family and I have been coming here since the early 2000s. Considering I was born in 1996. I have never had a problem, service is amazing. The food is always great. It's an awesome place to take your family for the view on the river. This place has been around for a long time (despite being washed away due to the flooding of the Susquehanna river a few times). My grandparents went on dates here when they were teenagers! The Food: The fish sandwiches are classis. Please don't expect anything healthy, though. The menu says it's fried in cholesterol-free peanut oil... but it's all fried. The scallops are good too... though they're fried. Take my word for it and go for the fish sandwich basket. You won't regret getting the fries, and you may get an extra sandwich on your way out. I enjoy the milkshakes, and others love the fresh-berwed ice tea or lemon blend. The Atmosphere: You can eat in your car if it's raining (turn your lights on to show you want service). You can canoe down the Susquehanna river, pull up along the shore, and sit at a picnic table for lunch (my mother has done this - sit anywhere you like). You can even go inside with a large group and enjoy the air conditioning. But only during the "season" - this place closes in the winter. You pay right after they bring the food.
