But then they told us that testing out the poles was ruining their same carpet the dogs had just pissed on. always very arrogant, condescending. Been to Henrietta and Bloomfield locations. First salesperson who helped me pick skis was pleasant and personable. Not what I would've settled on had I done my research but fine. Fitted into an oversized pair of boots by a teenager who was very pleasant and tried but not knowledgeable enough. Made it right on a future visit by an excellent experienced fitter and paid a reasonable restocking fee when I explained the issue. Satisfied and happy customer but recommend coming in with a good understanding of what you need and making sure you speak to someone knowledgeable. read more

I had a pair of skis waxed and sharpened. Upon pick up one of my skis had a gash in it that I had never seen before. Staff rushed me to sign papers for pick up. Upon further review I asked to speak to a manager, the manager stated it was common and didn't offer to make this right. For the price of services you would think they would take their time to not damage customers items. I likely will not be returning. read more

Now the 2nd year in a row with missed promises. Said at drop off they would repair a couple small spots , those spots of damage were still there at pickup with all shrugged shoulders. Way too busy. In way over their head. Not happy at this time after inquiring about a simple drop off and estimated pickup time for maint but will change review if everything's perfect once skis are returned. Just not enough computer track-ability or system capabilities. Very annoying and is a lack of rudimentary service procedures. Received boots as a gift. Buyer beware that new unused items can only be returned for store credit for some reason I spoke with Dawn on the phone and she curtly dismissed my request to return boots for anything but store credit. The call ended with her hanging up after a dismissive 'have a good day' I called back to try to get more information and was told by another employee that they could be returned to the card they were purchased on so I made the trip to the store. When I got to the counter, I asked the cashier the request and Dawn signaled for her to take over the transaction where she was quickly aggressive and dismissive. I can only imagine they get a lot of requests for refunds and for whatever reason their policy doesn't allow and she went off to the management. It felt like the frustration from past refund requests just gets passed on to the next customer and just became downright rude. I have worked in customer service for years and was calm with my requests but was treated rudely for what felt like other customers transgressions. she stormed off and who I assume was management, David, took over. While he was kind he did not offer any real answers other describing their policy. The 'vouchers' or whatever prohibited the refund could be returned, they haven't been used, but I don't want store credit that expires in a year or to patronize a company with anti-consumer policy again. All I know is that I won't be returning to this store. read more

I purchased all new equipment from the ski company just over two years ago. The ski boots were perfect once I added an orthopedic insert. The skis however were totally wrong for my ability and the kinds of terrain I ski . After demoing some other skis that were so much better, I contacted ski company and they let me trade in the skis towards another ski that I had demoed that is perfect for me. I was here yesterday looking for ski boots. It did take a while to get some help, but David (the guy with the long brown hair in a ponytail) was knowledgable and helpful. I tried on 3 manufacturers (Head, Lange, Nordica). I did not like the Nordica, it hurt too much to squeeze me feet in. So I went with the Head, they were $50 cheaper than the Lange. Full disclosure, I know very little about skiing or ski equipment. Recently popped in here on a whim in search of a ski outfit for my oldest nephew. Firstly, the store is larger than it appears from the outside and it is wonderfully decorated in a ski theme throughout. We were greeted promptly and were able to browse their inventory at our leisure. They had a large selection of ski outfits and gear within the store. Plenty of jackets, hats, gloves and ski pants. We explained what we needed to the saleswoman and she did her best to assist us. She was very attentive and direct when we explained what our needs were. Despite their advertised sale, their prices were still high and there wasn't much of a sale to be found anywhere in the store. Overall, if you're in need of something specific, this may be a great place to begin your search. read more

The guy who helped me fit my boots was amazing, he was super friendly and went wayyy yyyy out of his way to help me find a pair that fit my wide feet. "The customer is always right" ... uh, not here. Starting with the ridiculously user-un-friendly return policy... SEVEN days to get your money back in full. Shelled out over $200 for new boots, but time constraints (work/life/etc.) kept me from getting them properly fitted, (note that I spent over 90 minutes wearing them IN the store) or, having the chance to try them on the slopes in the time allotted. Long story short, they don't fit, and they never will - wrong shape for my foot. Doesn't matter, they got their money, and the party line is "we can give you 50% off on a trade-in". Seriously? You think I'm coming back to be scammed again? Properly fitted ski boots are essential, and if they hurt, or have 'hot spots', you are going to be miserable, and it doesn't matter if you're just an occasional recreational skier or more likely to be on the slopes two and three times a week - but that doesn't seem to be a priority with these folks. Try them on, then go find another source with a guaranteed fit program and buy them there, with a YEAR to return if there's a problem, WHAT a difference! read more

My boys got their ski, boots, n poles there last year. This year, the boots no longer fit. Went in for a trade in, (those r still brand new, got 50% of the value) long story short. Peter helped us. He was very friendly n patience. We spent an hour there trying to find the right fit. My boys r not easy, very wide feet. Told him we need them like....today. Instead of waiting for 2 days to pick them up. He got them ready in 30 mins. Didn't get the same friendly service last year we were there. Thanks again Peter! read more

There was not enough staff to help everyone during a busy shopping day. We were shopping for cross country ski's for Jill M, the first sales associate was trying to fit her for the boots. He asked to see the shoe she was already wearing and then told her that her street shoe was too big for her (?) and that is why he was sizing her down in a ski boot. What? The second sales associate tried to fit her for poles and was entirely wrong about fitting them. I don't know too much about cross country skiing, but I was pretty sure she was incorrect based on what I read when I bought my poles last year. (keep reading) Then they ran out of her size ski that was part of their advertised promotion. Not too big of a deal because we were going to Buffalo and could pick up a pair that was set aside at that location. When we went to the Buffalo location to get the skiis, we brought the ski poles inside and the sales associate confirmed that the poles were way too short for her. Yikes. read more

I've been skiing for 30 something years and my son is just getting into snowboarding now, so for his birthday present I decided to get him a new set up, the employees helped him get exactly what he needed and understood that it's an expensive sport (not to mention how good their prices really are) While my son was talking to an employee about his snowboard stuff I wanted to try on some new ski boots, and had another employee help me, between their exceptional customer service and their prices this has been one of the best shopping experiences I've had when it comes to winter sports. I called and they picked the phone up and hung up the first time then left me on hold so long that it hung up again when I called to speak to the manger about this incident as another customer and I both felt this employee was being very bizzare that was clearly high as a kite on some stimulant and my daughter and girlfriend where completely freaked out by it like seriously how did you guys let this kid come to work today and not realize what's going on in your store . You have lost a whole family of customers and to be costumers Shame on you. After I pick my daughters skis up this will be the last time I ever give my money to any of your stores. I'm completely disappointed and disgusted that you guys let this store come this low . Okay, this is an update on an earlier Ski Company rant; better rating than before but only for the Bloomfield Store on the way to Bristol Mtn. Even if you purchase elsewhere, the technicians will mount your touring ski bindings for a paltry $25 vice the $125-150 that they tried to charge me at the Rochester location. Still think the Rochester store is bad all-around - poor selection, bad customer service and crap management. read more

They wanted $30 to mount xc ski bindings. Other places including Park Ave Bike and RV&E will do it for 40-50% less. It's a pretty straight forward job that should take no more than 20 minutes not warranting $30. read more

Even though there is a HUGE variety of good quality equipment here I would never shop at this store if there were other options in the area. Perhaps coming from Vermont, I am spoiled. 2 seasons ago I bought a pair of race boots from a shop in Stowe and had some custom work done on them... then back in august of this year I brought them in to the Ski Company for replacement toe and heel lifts. I explained to them when I dropped them off that there was a good chance the boots would need some custom work again and they said all's good. After multiple calls to see when they would be ready I was told that when they finally got around to it the new lifts on the toe and heel were about a millimeter shy... Now its past the middle of November and the snow is falling, and my boots are still not ready. read more

I love shopping at this ski shop! They have the largest selection of any ski shop i have ever seen (east to west coast). Their staff is very knowledgeable and they did not pressure me into unneeded equipment. They also offer 2 amazing programs. 1) Two year guaranteed 50% trade in on NEW and USED equipment. 2) They gave me a LIFETIME wax card when i purchased new equipment. RIP OFF ALERT !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! What a joke this place is.. Nothing is ever covered under warranty. So we paid to have the board fixed, they took the payment. Then said that we tracked mud onto thier rug. They told us to rent a steam cleaner to clean THEIR carpets. Are you seroius!!! Who asks a customer to clean thier catpets... We told them we were NOT going to clean thier carpets.. So they refused to fix our defective board....and refused to issue a refund for the board repair. Guess we will see them in court.. read more

A bunch of low life scammers. My wife took my skis in for a $25 tune up from a email coupon. They told her I needed new skis and they would not do the $25 tune up. I worked in a ski shop for 10 years and the ski bottoms are in decent shape - they just need a tune up and I'm tied of doing it myself. The tune up didn't touch the bindings, so there are no liability issues - it is just a scam from a low life shop that is now the only game in town. What a bunch of dirtbags. A manager happened to be going to the Rochester store, and drove my skis and boots there so that I could still pick them up the same day. First-rate friendly service. If you get lucky, some of the sales people here are very knowledgeable about the ski equipment. As far as tune ups go, I always, without fail, walk out of that place upset. They never offer anything off the cost of a tune up even after buying $1200 worth of skis and boots from them. When I pick up my equipment from a tune up they can never find the work ticket and on more than one occasion my skis were not ready on the pick up date. On one occasion when I went to pick up my skis they brought them out from the shop gave them to me and told me I was all set. My skis had not even been touched. They were obviously not tuned up. I told they guy and he agreed after I said something about it. They tuned them while I waited after I had been waiting for 2 weeks. The employees generally seem to have poor attitudes. I think I'm done with the Ski Company. It seems their shop is always behind. The Ski Company has monopolized Western NY and has not expanded their tune up shop in Rochester NY enough to take on the load. Also, 'Snow' in Pittsford plaza is owned by the same owner so I would not expect any better service there. The employees are weird about it too. Its almost like they don't want people to know that 'Snow' is 'The Ski Company'. Like they think they're tricking the public into believing they will take their business elsewhere if they are not happy at The Ski Company. read more
