My wife and I went through Skiffs for our wedding cake and it was fantastic! They gave us exactly what we wanted! We had layers of chocolate, vanilla and red velvet cakes and they replicated our design to perfection. They have a ton of different flavors of cake and icing and do a great sampler for anybody thats thinking about going with them. We also ordered a package of their mini desserts and they were also a huge hit. We had cream puffs, cheesecake bites (Oreo & Pumpkin), mini brownies and mini apple strusel tarts. The only mistake we made was not buying more because they were wiped out fast! All together great desserts and even better service. Support this local business! read more

I search to always use small business as to always support them. I needed a graduation cake for my daughter and decided to try skiffs. When ordering my cake the young girl was kind and made great suggestions. All was going well until I picked up the cake. They brought it out to my car and when I got home I went to put it in my fridge but the cake box tilted forward which caused me to hold the box tight which caused damage to the edge of the cake. I was mortified and went back hoping they could save the day for me. When the cake decorator opened the box he looked at me with such distain. He asked how it happened I explained and he responded in my 20 plus years of working here I've never heard of this happening. Then said I'm not calling you a liar but I don't believe how this happened. Mind you this was said with customers in the shop. I felt like a scolded child. He then said I can't do it tonight it will have to be tomorrow and it's not going to look the same. I was at his mercy since the party was the next day. When employees at two other bake shops recommended Skiff's to me I was surprised. But I gathered they've been an institution in the Simi baking scene for years. Since then they've become my go-to bakery for everything. Their bakers can beat the cute but barely edible, dried to a husk grocery store cakes by a mile. This place is awesome for a constantly rotating collection of seasonal and thematic treats and keeps the glass cases full of fun. I'll often order what I need on their website then let the kids pick out a little something fun when we get there. The fruity pebbles macarons are a favorite with my kids. And their seasonal sugar cookies get inhaled by kids and parents alike at every event. Plus the staff is friendly and happy to do fun custom orders, though those are easier to order in person than online. I am a big cake lover, and I love Skiff's. I had them make my bridal shower, wedding and groom's cake and I loved all three. The taste of the cakes and frosting is delicious, and aesthetically they are always beautiful. For my wedding, we provided the last of our flowers for Steve to decorate the cake with. He did a beautiful job. I couldn't believe how gorgeous it was when I first saw it. Wendy also did an awesome job on the chemistry themed groom's cake. The only teeny tiny complaint that I have is that the bottom layer of the wedding cake, which was white cake with lemon and raspberry filling, was a bit dry and there was very little filling. Which is weird because I had the same exact cake for my bridal shower and it had been much more moist and generous on filling. Putting that small criticism aside, I was very happy with all of our cakes. Their cupcakes are delicious too. My favorite flavors (so far) are the Bavarian chocolate, lemon raspberry and champagne strawberry. The owners Steve and Wendy were lovely to work with as well. I will definitely be back for future special occasion cakes, and probably for a cupcake or two. :) read more

I had ordered TWO cakes from here back in March one was for a 3 year old and the other was for a Raider fan. I had asked for a groovy themed for the 3 year old and that one was ok, but the raider one OMG I was DISAPPOINTED to say the least, because When I went to order the cakes I was told they would be making an edible fondant raider logo (which btw was $15 extra ). On day of party when I went to pick up the cakes I was super disappointed to find out they had hand drawn the logo and they had done this without them even telling me first. I get it it's hard work and it takes time to bake a cake and do all the decorations and all that but why not communicate with the buyer and let them know what you're doing instead of just taking it upon yourself to make changes when those changes weren't even approved. I was more disappointed that they charged me $15 extra for something they didn't even do. I've ordered cakes here for my kiddo since she was born to her baptism to her 1st birthday to her 3rd also another thing. They didn't even refund me the $15. I heard when that girl that works there had asked Steve I think his name is if they were gunna refund the $15 and I heard him loud and clear "NO". I won't ever buy from this bakery again. read more

Love their chocolate chip cookies!! Love their cupcakes too! Great variety! They also make gluten free cupcakes (haven't mastered them yet) but they're pretty good. This store front, with only pictures of wedding cakes to show for, is unique in its pitch to dazzle you with their goods. You can't really SEE the cakes....just the pictures.....and that's all you get. The way they get the sales is this.......people have tried their cakes at parties, weddings, etc....that's it. They come in, they order. Me? I just looked them up on Yelp, and it intrigued me. So when I walked in, I wasn't really quite sure what to do. I wasn't even sure I had walked into the right place. I did expect the cakes to be on display.....up close. Okay, so I was wrong. However, I am a huge advocate of photos. Then, a bright, cheerful young lady appears and asks if I can be helped. (I seriously doubt it. I'm beyond help.) (smile) I told her I wanted to know about her cupcakes, but quite honestly, questioning in my mind if they even have cupcakes. I didn't see any. Jackpot. She brings out this huge tray of about 20+ cupcakes (although she said they make over 30 flavors). She rattled off every single flavor that was on the tray......(let's see how many I can remember) chocolate, vanilla, lemon cake & lemon frosting, citrus (lemon cake with orange creme frosting), boston creme, black forest, strawberry cheesecake, apple pie, carrot cake, 1/2 vanilla 1/2 chocolate, champagne, vanilla cake w/raspberry filling, red velvet, peanut butter fudge, vanilla with coconut, cookies 'n cream, something with toasted coconut........okay, that's all my brain remembers, You'll just have to go find out for yourself the rest of them. EACH of these cupcakes had a very generous mound of frosting, and EACH of these cupcakes had a filling, also representative of its flavor. I was hard-pressed to keep my selection only to EIGHT. So many to choose from, but I didn't want to be a pig about it. Okay, so getting 8 is being a pig, but I didn't eat them all. I ended up choosing apple pie, strawberry cheesecake, carrot cake, peanut butter fudge, cookies 'n cream, chocolate, lemon, and champage. Everything I tried was bursting with the flavor chosen (although I'm not sure about the champagne.......what it was....or what was in it.....rather flat on flavor). Everything else was terrific. Icings/frostings were excellent ; cakes were light and moist. If I had any complaint, I'd say the frosting was SUPER sweet (but it definitely had the requisite salt added, so it was fine), and when eaten with a bite of the cake, it didn't matter, honestly. The flavors were really excellent. They will be moving their store in the same strip center, but right on and facing Cochran Street, over the next 2-3 months. So I decided to go back to Skiff's and give it another shot and I'm really glad I did. On my most recent visit I was fortunate enough to try the Banana Huber cupcake. Although the cupcake is still on the smaller side in comparison to other cupcake shops this particular flavor was excellent! The Huber was filled with banana cream/icing which really put the cupcake over the top. Definitely one of my favorites at Skiff's. On this visit I noticed in the display case there was a small selection of macarones. I decided to try 2 of the 3 flavors. What was really cool was that the owner/employee gave me the 3rd flavor on the house! He said he wanted me to try them all and provide feedback because they were something new they were trying out. Well, it's safe to say all 3 macarones were delicious (and fairly priced!) and worth going back for. Skiff's Cakes picks up a extra star from this Yelper for having a tasty banana flavored cupcake and for being so cool to me with the macarone freebie. The absolute cutest cake shop! There are a couple vegan options. I was blown away. One of the best cupcakes I've ever had. And trust me, I've tried a lot of cupcakes lol. I got the vegan chocolate cupcake with whipped topping and rainbow sprinkles. My favorite frosting in the world is whipped topping and this place actually has a vegan option! I've missed whipped topping for 10 years. The staff was so sweet (pun intended) and helpful. The inside is so cute. I really wish they had more vegan options. I'm crossing my fingers for more in the future! They don't keep them up front so you have to ask. The prices aren't listed. My one cupcake came out to a little over $4. This would be our 6-star review if we could. Skiff's was awesome. We found them on Yelp, made an appointment for a tasting and ordered our wedding cake. We loved working with them as we planned (and seriously? the tasting? probably our favorite part of the planning - anything they created would have been awesome!). The day of the wedding, the cake was there and was gorgeous - it was a design right from their online portfolio of cakes. The flavors were a lemony layer or two and a chocolate/raspberry layer. We loved it - it was so moist - and we got lots of compliments on it from our guests. A year from now, when we eat the top layer on our 1st anniversary, I will still think year old cake from Skiffs is probably better than a freshly baked cake from anywhere else. read more

I call, the gentleman, I think his name is Omar answers the phone and proceeds to tell me they have cakes and goes over the flavors. They will write a message on the cake.
