Stopped by Carrera's Bakery while they were offering samples and ended up completely blown away. The triple chocolate cake was outstanding, and the FRITTELLE--a classic Italian fried dough pastry--was unlike any I've ever had. I've been to Italy multiple times and grew up around Italian baking, and this is hands down the best frittelle I've ever tasted. Light, golden, and filled with vanilla custard, then finished with a dusting of powdered sugar, it was truly unforgettable. This is a real Italian bakery, and once you step inside, the space completely opens up--high ceilings, a beautiful interior, and a hidden, speakeasy feel you'd never expect from the street. The young man with blonde hair who helped me was so kind, knowledgeable, and clearly proud of the bakery. It made the whole experience even better. The latte was perfectly done as well. Carrara's Pastries in Moorpark never disappoints. The atmosphere is warm and inviting, and the attention to detail here is genuinely impressive. Within ten seconds of walking in, I was greeted by Ama, who set the tone for the whole visit. She was warm, welcoming, and attentive throughout. She even let me sample different gelato flavors and suggested some great dishes to try on my next visit. That kind of thoughtfulness goes a long way. The affogato here is on another level. Most places serve it in a paper cup where the espresso and gelato just blend into a mushy mess. Not here. Carrara's presents it beautifully on a stone tray, with a proper espresso cup and a transparent glass so you can actually see the layers of gelato and espresso. And Ama personally poured the espresso tableside, which really topped off the whole experience. Great food, great service, great atmosphere. Will definitely be back. read more

I started off my meal with a delicious cappuccino and Velina, a dark chocolate and hazelnut version of their famous Golosa dessert. 5/5 Tuscan Vegetable Campanelle - It's one of their most popular pasta dishes, and I can see why. First time here. What a nice Italian eatery. We came randomly on a Sunday afternoon and it wasn't full at all nor was the shopping center it's located in. It's in a quiet area of Moorpark. There's plenty of parking especially because doesn't look like it gets crowded here. It's a pretty big restaurant that serves lunch and dinner. Lunch ends at 3pm and Dinner starts at 5pm so we actually missed lunch but the service let us know what they were still serving including the pastries, gelato and croissant sandwiches. Sandro the guy behind the counter was really nice enough to serve us a complimentary bite of their popular items because it was our first time. He gave us two fritelles and I also got a sugar free hazelnut latte and my fiance got a cannoli. They had a variety of syrups for lattes. My latte tasted just right because I didn't want anything sweet. The fritelle was good but had too much crème filling for me. If you liked really filled donuts then you'd like these. I thought personally it was too rich. The cannoli was a small size but a nice sweet treat. It was a nice experience with great service. We look forward to coming back. read more

Carrara's pastries are absolutely delicious. I really enjoy the strawberry cheesecake, the Nutella Crostatine di Cereali, and the Shortbread Sandwiches ( they offer them in apricot, raspberry, or Nutella). Everything tastes fresh. Their packaging is also beautiful, which makes their pastries really nice for gifts or bringing to gatherings. I prefer ordering pastries ahead of time and picking them up rather than dining in, and overall I've had mostly good experiences doing that. I did place a pickup order today that was supposed to be ready at 9:45am, but when arrived shortly after that they hadn't started putting it together yet. To be fair, they seemed very short staffed and they gave us some freebies for the wait, which was appreciated. One thing I don't love is the tipping setup. I completely understand tipping when dining in and being served, but it feels uncomfortable being prompted so aggressively for a tip even when you're just grabbing a box of pastries to go. Tip culture everywhere is starting to feel a little out of hand. I'll also be honest that I ordered their Thanksgiving meal a couple years ago and unfortunately it was pretty inedible and not good at all. That said, I haven't tried their lunch sandwiches or dined there for lunch before, so I can't speak on that side of the menu. Whenever I come back home for the holidays, I make visiting Carrara's a MUST. The interior and various pastry, gelato, and wine offerings are always displayed so beautifully and adds to the Italian vibe they set. My all time favorite dish is the salmon fettuccine! So flavorful, tasty and balanced with a large and generous amount of salmon and well cooked zucchini and cherry tomatoes that balance the dish wonderfully. We also ordered small gelato in the flavors Carrara and Giandiu which was a sweet way to end the meal. Mason, our server, was very kind, attentive and helpful! We had a wonderful experience last night at Carrara's. Our friend group had enjoyed the holiday show at the High Street Arts Center and were planning to have a meal afterward. We don't always join the group as they have season tickets and we pick and choose performances. They have visited various places on their theater days, but none of them were familiar with Carrara's, so I had suggested it. One of our friends made a reservation ahead of time, so the restaurant had a table set up for us in advance. They were ready for us, even though the show let out early and we arrived about 20 minutes before our reservation. Michelle took excellent care of us. Most of the group shared entrees, as they are generously sized, especially the chicken dishes. Dear Hubby and I shared some samples of our respective orders with each other. I was quite hungry and finished my entree of gnocchi. It was supposed to come with pesto sauce, but I thought that would be too rich, so I asked for marinara with a side of pesto. That allowed me to drizzle the pesto sauce on top and enjoy both signature Italian flavors. It was delicious! The gnocchi itself was among the lightest texture I'd ever had, which made it the opposite of heavy. I thoroughly enjoyed it. DH's Chicken Milanese was prepared in a wonderful style, as well. His came with a side salad. It would be nice to have a small potion of pasta with it, I would say. I saw a lot of plates cleaned down to the porcelain with just a smidge of sauce left. One couple especially enjoyed the shrimp pasta dish after having the caprese appetizer. DH and I encouraged the group to check out the dessert options. We followed our own advice. He went for the rum baba pastry, and I tried the Trilogia chocolate masterpiece. I also had a smooth decaf mocha cappuccino with oat milk. I thought it was great. The seating inside and outside were comfortable. Lots of space and greenery. The pastries looked and tasted good. The coffee was great. So many good options for vegetarian food on the menu. Tasty. Very kind, quick, and helpful staff. I didn't have any, but there are also multiple kinds of interesting gelato to choose from. The bathrooms were very clean and minimal. And it was a clean and relaxed environment. It has high ceilings but it's comfy. I was surprised that it was so expansive. I think it's a good place. We have come several times for dinner. The wait staff is always helpful and attentive. We came on a Saturday evening and they had a signer who was very good. Another time, they had a couple of musicians. They played/sang at a comfortable level. As for the food, it was outstanding. The beef short ribs are my favorite. Went in for dinner on a Friday night. There was live music and we were seated on the other side of the restaurant, so it was a good background noise and we could still talk. Ordered fried calamari and it seems they've returned to the generous portion of veggies added to the calamari (yum). Dinner was the meatball sandwich, which was always good, but if you've come back in the day, it no longer comes with the broccolini. Casual eatery with an upscale vibe. This was my first time and the experience was 5 star. For dinner I had the white fish with shrimp in vodka sauce and loved it. We enjoyed the live music on this Saturday evening. Service was exceptional! Our waiter, the host, and the gentleman behind the gelato counter treated me like a VIP. Have been coming here for years (since they were at their original location down the street). Came to pick up some pastries was surprised to see it has converted into Italian restaurant experience. Looks nice, but didn't try the food. Only had the gelato and a coffee. The gelato was good, but the choices seemed to be fewer than I remember and more streamlined toward American tastes and palettes. The coffee was also very good! Rumor has it that there have been a couple of ownership changes in recent years, so perhaps this explains the changes. But one thing I was disappointed with was that they no longer honor Clover discounts or rewards. I actually started using Clover because of this establishment - and rarely use it at other places. And usually it's not a hassle to check in here and get a discount on my purchase. But when I tried tonight, I got a blank look from the cashier and they just told me to punch in my number for their rewards program (which was not the same thing). This seemed a bit confusing. Adding to my confusion is that there is apparently a *different* Carrara's Pastries in Roseville CA that *is* on the Clover app - and when I clicked on the website information for that place, it directs to *this* Carrara's website. ‍ Apparently, I had checked in at that Carrara's and not this one. So... overall, the coffee and desserts were good, but not honoring my Clover check-in was disappointing. read more

We popped in for dessert and were warmly greeted by the owner. The Frittelle is a decadent fluffy pastry filled with pastry cream and oh so delicious. The Sfogliatelle, a pastry with crispy layers and filled with ricotta cheese and orange zest, is unique and satisfying. We also enjoyed a rum baba dripping with rum. A guitarist was playing live music which really added to the ambience. You can order pastries to go in beautiful gift packaging. It would bring a smile to anyone. read more

I've been here a few times for the bakery items and they are all soooo yummy!! They have a great selection. This time we went for lunch and ordered the meatball sandwich which was very tasty! They split it for us and put it on two different boards which was appreciated. The truffle fries hardly tasted like truffle and they were cold. The side Caesar salad was disappointing and didn't taste like a Caesar. The service was accommodating to our large group and brought out waters for us which is normally a self service. We also ordered a cake and they sliced it up for us and brought it out after we finished our meal. The ambiance inside is nice as well and there is plenty of seating. read more

I came in today to buy a cake as I turned around to see if I could get some help and Medina was right there, he asked me if I had any questions, he helped me through my huge order, he was so thoughtful which I really appreciated. We came here for lunch with a large group (10 people), and they were kind enough to reserve the whole patio for us. It was a nice day so it was nice to sit outside, though the inside dining also looked great; they have beautiful slab tables to eat at. All the staff members were very friendly and eager to assist us, and the food was ready pretty quick. It was all delicious as well. We have bought their yogurt cake many times before, and we absolutely love it, but we don't eat here that often. But we should eat here more because it's so good. My wife and I each got pasta dishes. I got the gnocchi pesto (be sure to order a side of bread so you can eat up all the extra sauce!) and she got the vegetable pasta dish. Lots of others got various pastas, salads, and sandwiches, and no one was disappointed. We also got some pastries for desserts. They were all quite tasty. My favorite item was actually the pistachio gelato. The cheesecakes really caught my eye so I got an individual piece of the blueberry one; it was good but the jello-like blueberry topping was one thing I'd change. I'd rather have it be a drizzle over the top. But all in all, fantastic lunch experience, and I would highly recommend. read more

The quality of the pastries has declined over the years. The price keeps going up but the quality is not there anymore. Overpriced for what it is. For example, I purchased a blueberry muffin that lacked flavor and it was overpowered by a metallic flavor which is due to too much baking soda added. The torta de nonna is smaller in size and the dough is not buttery soft. It's just a disappointment for being an Italian bakery. My advice is go back to basics...simplicity and good quality. read more
