One of my best friends was getting married in Anaheim, and I thought to myself, I should probably get a haircut to look presentable for his pictures. The night before the wedding, I walked into The Plaza Salon because it was right next door to the venue, and there, I met Fawzeya. I asked her a million questions because I had no idea what type of cut I needed. She told me she could fit me into her schedule 2 hours before pictures. Nervously, I confirmed. When I arrived 15 minutes late (my fault), Fawzeya was nothing but super friendly and professional. She asked me how I wanted my cut, and I said "you're the pro, just make me look good please". I'm not sure of the exact number of years of experience she told me she has, but I think she told me 42 years, she must've started when she was an infant. I'm so glad that she was able to fit me into her schedule because the wedding photos were beautiful, my hair feels great, and everyone is still telling me how amazing it looks! One time, I over booked appointments and I texted her if we could change the noon to 2? She texted back and stated, "I can't do it. Let's do it next week?" WOW, I waited a whole week to get my haircut. I dealt with her changing times and the one time I do it, she can't do it. Recently, I had an appointment for 5:30pm on a Tuesday. Special shout out to the receptionist for calming me down because I was in tears when I called to see if Cartel had an opening! I had gone to 3 other salons that day for consults to see what they recommended to fix my hair, but they didn't give me a good feeling, or they had weird solutions to fix the hair dye job. Unfortunately I realized this after it was too late. If I could give this place one star I would. So many red flags!!! I called and booked an appointment for 3pm. The stylist on the phone sounded as though he were too busy to be on the phone and handed it off with out telling the other person why I was calling. I arrived to my appointment 5 mins early. One stylist had someone in their chair, while the other just sat someone down. Don't understand why a salon would book an appointment if they're not going to honor it? I decided to wait anyway. When I sat in the chair the stylist asked what I wanted and I showed him a picture. He asked why I didn't get a Brazilian Blowout. I told him it's because I like my hair. It's naturally curly. He pointed out that it's frizzy. I explained it was frizzy because I took a shower right before my appointment and I didn't wash my hair because I thought they would. The mist from the shower caused it to frizz. The barbacide jar was less than half full and the combs inside were only partially immersed. Also the stylist didn't appear to know how to cut hair properly. He just pulled my hair all the way down and cut it straight across. I wanted some layers in my hair and he didn't put them in. Instead he said I still had layers. Those were layers that were outgrown from a haircut I got 4 months ago. I had to ask him to do a little more because it was still thick at the bottom. I should have listened to my instinct and just paid $80 like I normally do at a higher end salon. I'm going to have to go get my hair fixed now because the stylist messed it up and it looks nothing like The picture I asked for. See attached photos.

I am now facing significant additional expenses to have my hair professionally corrected after a color service performed by one of the salon's assistants during a model appointment. While I understand the salon's position that the appointment was arranged privately, the services were still performed inside the salon by someone working there. I believe there should have been appropriate supervision or limitations on the services being performed, especially for a complex color correction. I also reached out to ask whether there was any professional liability insurance available so I could pursue a claim for the cost of repairing my hair. I never received a response to that question. My goal was never to seek another refund I had already received one. I simply wanted help covering the cost of correcting the damage. I hope the salon continues improving its supervision and policies so future clients don't have the same experience I did.
