I have been getting botox for 20 years with excellent results. I have always gone to a skilled cosmetic physician to have my botox. However, I recently moved to Boston and after reading good reviews about SkinDeep Med Spa I decided to give it a try. I went to see Michelle Cory (a nurse injector) I explained that I wanted to reduce forehead wrinkles and crows feet but wanted to look natural. While getting my injection, I noticed that Michelle was not as careful as my previous providers while injecting. She also gave me more units of botox than I usually get. Several days later I noticed my left eye had started to droop. Droopy eyelids (called ptosis) are a known but rare complication of botox. It can happen if the toxin (botox) inadvertently spreads to the muscles that are responsible for lifting the eyebrow or the eyelid. This subsequently weakens or paralyzes the lid and gives the droopy eye. This (droopy eye) occurs if the injection is too deep, too close to the muscles, or the dose is too high, all of which are due to clinician error. This complication will likely last eight weeks. It appears Michelle injected the botox too close to my eyebrows and also likely gave me too much botox both of which led to my droopy eye. I went back to see Michelle with my complication and she admitted that this had happened before to her clients. She prescribed some drops which unfortunately, are not very effective. Other than that, she was no help managing the complication she caused to my eye and has not checked in with me since the incident occurred to see how I was doing. I am now out $600 for this procedure, and look quite disfigured. I read online that it is very important to choose a medically qualified, skilled and experienced injector who understands the risks of the botox procedure and will approach new patients with caution to decrease risk. Michelle (at SkinDeep Med Spa on Newbury Street) was not careful and likely lacked the clinical experience/training to avoid my complication. As I said, I have had botox for 20 years without complications. I will be reporting this complication to the FDA but wanted to share my experience so that others may avoid this issue. Think twice before booking an appointment at SKINDEEP MED SPA for botox as complications can be serious, disfiguring and even life threatening. I will be going to a board certified plastic surgeon or dermatologist for all my future botox. read more

I've attached photos of the results I've received at Skin Deep. First is a Before and After of lip filler. This lump of product took 5-6 return visits to dissolve with hyalurondaise. It finally went away. I asked for a refund for the huge hassle. I was denied. Instead. I was offered a complimentary service. It was suggested I treat the tear trough. I agreed. Next you will see the results of that. The tear trough was injected too superficially. Rather than dissolve this mistake, the solution was to again- do more-- for free. Then, an entire syringe of product was injected to "correct" and fill in the areas around the bag under my eye. This is the result weeks after swelling. You will also see an incorrectly placed Botox injection to mentalis (the chin) my mouth was approximately 40% paralyzed for 6 weeks. I wasn't able to speak and laugh at the same time. My mouth was distorted and embarrassing. When I showed Skin Deep my result in person, the reply was "it looks fine" "I don't see anything" At that point, I refused any more "complimentary corrections" and asked for a refund. I got one for $600 My under eye is still lumpy and uneven but I am working with a new highly-skilled, caring Doctor to correct the issue. The next photo you will see is 1 of 4 attempts that have been made by my doctor to get my medical records released from Skin Deep so we can know exactly WHAT substance was injected into my eye so that we can fix this. OBSESSED with this place after only one visit!! Okay first of all, the staff responds so quickly and professionally to online & phone inquiries. They get back to you with any questions or about appointments and make everything so simple! Second, from the moment you walk in the door, you feel relaxed and surrounded by beauty! The location is gorgeous as are the people (inside & out!). Everyone there is quick to make you feel at home and eager to answer any questions you may have. The receptionist (Nicole, I believe? Forgive me if I'm wrong!) was incredibly sweet and knowledgeable and made me feel so so much better about the procedure. By the time the injectionist came out from her previous appointment I was ready to go! She got my lips numbed up while she cleaned the room and readied the supplies, which took only a few minutes. The procedure itself (1 syringe Juvaderm injected into my lips) was SO unbelievably quick and easy! I've had shots, piercings, tattoos, bee stings, etc. And I can say this is the easiest of them all! The injectionist made me feel so so relaxed, she was so sweet and talented and gentle. I couldn't have asked for a better experience!! Went to her for botox (this isn't my real name, before you come at me) and her prices are INSANE. Also, rude/annoying office staff that told me 20% tips for services are basically expected- on top of her crazy prices. What a waste of $$ for a simple forehead injection. The only reason I went here was that my regular guy (a plastic surgeon) was fully booked this month. His prices are better, he's much more knowledgeable, and he would never expect or even accept a tip for a procedure. I will never go to this place (or to any other NURSE, for that matter) for botox. My experience at the spa was exceptional. My friendly greeter was Kat, and she was very professional and kind. The service I received was a "deep tissue" massage. The facility appearance was prestige, everything was neat, sleek and in order. Now let's get to my massage therapist "Steven", he is truly a God sent Angel. I just returned from a 13 month deployment and he had me feeling better than I do when I leave the Army's Physical Therapist clinic. updated review as promised. I've had my lips done 2 weeks ago now and had my first hydra-facial with Anna yesterday. I'm super happy with both results! My lips look very natural but have just that little bit of extra 'oomph'. Michelle knows exactly what she's doing. She took plenty of time to let the lidocaine cream numb my lips. I find the treatment quite painful (and I normally have a high tolerance) so this is very much appreciated. She then works quick and efficient but still very meticulous and precise so there's minimal pain with maximum results. Afterwards my lips were swollen for a few days naturally but no bruising at all. In short: I have the exact result I wanted and would highly recommend Michelle for lip fillers! Besides being a pro she's also super personable and fun :) As for Michelle, I can't say enough praise for Anna! She's so knowledgable about skin and tailors your facial exactly to your needs. No cookie cutter treatments here! I had a hydra-facial but she added in a few other techniques to maximize the affects of my treatment. My skin is glowing and feels so soft! Okay, I have to update my review again now that I have had laser facials and a regular facial, as well as Botox! The Botox is going great and very much worth it. I don't get a frozen face, my eyebrows are just lifted and I can;t scowl. Perfect! I have also tried having filler injected in the furrows around my mouth. I really like that. It makes me look much younger and more cheerful. The laser facial got rid of brown spots and broken capillaries. Last but not least, they are now doing "regular" facials where they steam your pores, do extractions, and give you a nice masque. Michelle did a wonderful job with the extractions. This is the first time my nose has looked so clear since I was probably fourteen years old. read more

I came here for Botox in my forehead in November '18 and have had it plenty times before at another spa. After 2 weeks I saw no changes. So I waited another 2 weeks because it was a new place. Honestly, before reading the reviews, I thought I was just being paranoid. As it turned out, there are so many people felt the same way about the Botox here just like me! I received a Botox injection last year at Skin Deep Med Spa and it only lasted a month or so before my masseter started "growing" back. I've had several injections elsewhere before so I can speak from my experience that the effect of Botox here was a lot shorter than my previous ones. I thought it was just me being paranoid because the clinic looked professional, and staff were very nice. I didn't even call them because I am not used to do touch-ups. Anyway, this is my experience with the Botox injection here. I don't even know how it would be possible. Maybe the units injected were less than purchased or maybe the way it was injected was wrong. Looked through a bunch of reviews and was nervous as hell to pick a place. Sitting in the waiting room on Newbury with 2 young girls with lips as big as fish dressed as stirppers, I thought...maybe this isn't for me. I HATE needles! Nichole talked me through it and I actually left with sweaty palms but returned an hour later. She promised she had a special trick so that I wouldn't notice it, and it worked! I won't tell you or I'll spoil the fun but Nichole's personality really makes you feel at ease. It took about 3 weeks for it to fully take affect and the results with the Botox was wonderful. I got my "11's" done (between the eyebrows) and the Botox stopped me from frowning which just deepens the creases. Honestly, the prices are way too inflated for the quality of work here. I got my lips done here in October, immediately didn't like the results and went back and war charged almost half of what I initially paid. They were very bulky & placed too deep inside my lips. Had to go back again as a huge lump formed on my lip in which part of the filler had to be removed. She didn't bother putting back the filler that was dissolved so now I'm stuck with the uneven look. It's been only only 4 months and my lips practically look the same as they did before. Spent over $1,000. Staff is nice but I'm honestly disappointed I chose this place. Keep looking. read more

My friend told me about this place, but I wasn't happy with the result at all. First of all, I had Botox injections before and many times so I can say that I'm expert on telling who does a good job and who doesn't, Med spa Botox doesn't stay even for 3 months. Second of all, very expensive you could find cheaper places on group on with the same quality or even better. Third, I called them to ask if I could have a free touch up for my forehead and this is how Botox works, they said yes I can come and have free touch up, however, when I went there Nicole told me SORRY WE DON't do touch up for this area, but I can make discount for the Second round if you agree. Nichole was recommended to me by a friend for lip injections after I had been researching different places to go for over six months. I was very impressed by the great reviews Skin Deep had online and I used their site to book an appointment online, which was super easy. The office is beautiful, private and welcoming. The staff is friendly and helpful. I arrived early and Nichole was able to take me a little earlier than I was booked for, which I appreciated. We talked about what my desired outcome was and both agreed on 1ml of Restalyne in my upper lip. After my lips had been numbed, Nichole injected the filler like an artist - methodically and effortlessly, which really had me at ease. She is kind, warm and funny and I cannot even tell you how happy I am to have found her. One word of caution for women looking to get botox in their jaw's masseter muscles (for minimizing their jawline and/or bruxism): the skin that is loosened from shrinking your masseter muscles might end up causing more prominent nasolabial folds, especially if you are Asian like me and have a flatter Asian face shape with larger cheeks and less volume in the nasolabial area to begin with. I'm unsure of how to address this--I tried derma rolling but without any visible improvement. Second, for some reason my jawline has been getting bigger again even though it's been only a short period of time since I had my last injection. Huge bummer. read more

I can truthfully say I've never received better treatments and care than I have at Skin Deep on Newbury Street. The staff here is highly educated on the products they are using and take time to explain and tailor to each individual. They keep up to date with the times and trends. Each time I visit, although they are now friendly faces, I feel like a brand new customer for each treatment. I cannot recommend skin deep enough. Great location, easy booking, and amazing staff. I am so envious that people in Boston have access to Michele on a regular basis. She moved from Walnut Creek CA to Boston and I cannot find anyone who can do the art that she does with injectables. I have been to 2 different Med spas with Nurse Practitioners who can do as good a job as Michelle. My first appointment was back in February and I was extremely pleased with the outcome of the procedure and the friendliness of the staff. I really didn't want to write this review, but after feeling disappointed for several months, I feel obligated to post. I went in for lip injections, Restylane, at the end of April. I've had lip injections done before and had no issues in what I had asked for. I asked for a fuller upper lip, particularly the outer thirds of the upper lip, where there is significantly less volume. I was looking for this added volume in the body of the lip to raise the outer thirds of my upper lip, make them bigger. However, Nichole put the product right along the vermillion borders of my upper lip, along the borders of the outer thirds on the left and right sides of my upper lip...but deposited most of the product ABOVE the red part of my lip. I could feel during the injections, that she went almost completely along the lip border, which is not what I thought she'd do given what I'd asked, but I trusted she was the expert. Immediately after Nichole was done with the injections, I said that it didn't look like there was enough filler. I couldn't tell my lips had changed. She said that she thought it was "really pretty" and had done a full syringe. Little did I know, the needle was angled up, and the product went above my lip border. I felt confused when I left because she said it looked good...but it looked to me like nothing happened. I thought I'd let the swelling happen over the next few days and then re-evaluate the outcome. I waited, evaluated, and was correct - that the injections were done poorly. I was left with a puffy upper lip border with obvious filler sitting above my lip. Essentially the borders of my upper lip protruded and were rounded out, like a ledge. It created a shadow above my lip, looking like a mustache, I kid you not. The size of the red part of my lip did not change, and in fact, the product sitting above my lips made things worse - pushing down onto the outer thirds of my lips and making them look smaller. Because of the odd placement of the filler above my lip border, my upper lip was left with an obvious vertical crease in the right side of my upper lip, because the weight of the filler folded down the right side of the upper lip. So, I called to try to get an appointment to fix, and Nichole was on maternity leave. Although my lips looked bad (other people could tell, and commented) I waited patiently for Nichole to return. When she did, she had very limited availability and made no effort to accommodate an appointment on a different day than those she had pre-set to be scheduled. Where is the customer service? If you have a customer that needs a fix, you MAKE TIME. I paid a lot for this - would hope to see better service. Looking back, if this was due to her maternity, I would have liked a recommendation for another provider, because scheduling was so difficult. I ended up with an appointment for a fix in late June, and I had to book that over a month in advance. Because of work obligations that I could not predict in advance, I was not able to have the fix on that day - I did have a consult - and then I was pushed to an appointment for a fix, yet again a month later, at the end of July. During the consult, Nichole's first reaction was not ownership of her work, but telling me, in not so many words, that these results could possibly be my fault - that my face is asymmetrical and the facial expressions I make, could have contributed to why the filler could have "migrated" and made that vertical crease on the right side of my upper lip. She also suggested I try using lip liner (if I wanted to use lip-liner, I would not have sought out lip injections). My thoughts which I should have expressed on the spot, but alas: 1 - I look at my face every day. I've seen pictures and videos of myself, and NO, I have not observed an asymmetry of mouth or facial expressions 2 - When it comes to the migration of filler - not likely, because I noticed problems shortly after the injections were complete After the third, and final visit, in which the free fix was done, Nichole did dissolve some of the product that was sitting above my lip, and put in some more Restylane to push out the crease, and try to even things out. I am ok with the fix, given that it just took my lips back to how they were before, still with some product left sitting above my lip (but less obvious). I don't want to mess with my lips for a while, so I'm just waiting for it to fade away. I regret wasting ~$600 on lip injections here, a lot of my time and frustration, with the end result being my lips looked bad and then the same. read more

Very disappointed. Got Botox here a few times and the second to last time I did Nicole punctured a blood vessel at the top of my nose, leaving a scar. I pointed it out to her at the next visit and she denied having anything to do with the scar, which still shows over a year later. It's a much better idea to actually see a doctor who won't break blood vessels on your face. Also, Nicole's face is way overdone and looks very unnatural and a bit alarming. When I think Newbury Street...I think chic & luxurious. Skin Deep Med Spa did NOT disappoint. Nichole, the owner was knowledgeable, efficient, and kept a beautifully clean enviroment. While I was there she got busy (i think my appointment took longer than originally planned), my 18 month old son didn't help the matter because he was having a temper tantrum in the waiting room. I felt like she treated everyone with respect and was understanding of my son's behavior. I want to respond to Nicole's response, but I don't think I can, so I'm updating. Yes, it's true that Botox is not permanent. But that is not the case with jaw botox. If you're diligently getting the procedure once the muscles start showing again 3-6months later, with continued use, the duration of the interval will increase each time. Eventually, even if botox wears off the muscles would still be numb. And yes, I know about the chewing of hard foods - I haven't chewed gum or hard foods, like apples, for 5 years now. I think you need to research more about this procedure before offering it to patients. And try not to bleed them when you inject. Of the numerous times I've gotten this procedure, your clinic was the only one that made me bleed when injecting it. I'm downgrading my original review of 3 stars to 2 as it seems they don't have much experience with this procedure. If so, don't offer it. read more
