Got a Groupon for a detox facial. Here are the highlights: The Zero gravity chair you sit in is dope. The first mask has paprika in it and felt incredible. My esthetician, Emily, had the most delicate angel hands. Seriously, it's the softest touch I've ever had for a facial. I felt like an orchid. They gave me samples of products they recommended so I could try before I buy. Downside: Slightly hard to get to. I emphasized that I wanted extractions, and while Emily did do extractions that were completely painless and super lovely, I left with a lot more blackheads than I'd like. That's it. I originally got a Groupon for a 39 dollar detox facial. It was well worth it. First - Skin Zen Spa is located in front of Babies R' Us. The parking lot is huge and easy to find a space to park. The facial process was splendid. I had the cosmetologist named Emily and she was very gentle and good at facial massages. I would highly recommend Skin Zen Spa. WARNING to potential customers! I would not recommend signing up for the monthly membership if you work a lot or travel regularly. I signed up for premium membership which is $69 a month. I changed work hours and had a hard time getting an appointment during the week while they were still open and they were almost always booked on the weekends. I tried for 6 months to get an appointment. So I paid $69 a month and got absolutely nothing for 6 months. After finally being able to go in an cancel (which I was asked to do because they won't do it over the phone and didn't offer it online), I was told that it takes 30 days to cancel. So I canceled in November. I was charged $69 for November and also $69 for December! They were aware that I was unable to come in during their hours, they said it was 30 days after the month I canceled, and so basically it cost me $138 just to cancel. I spent a lot of money with them and got no product, no appointments or service, and no consideration. In an era where businesses are more customer focused than ever, I don't see how this business model of robbing your customers and trapping them into unfair contracts can last. If anyone on the street would have taken this much money from me, they could be locked up in jail for robbery. Be warned! read more

I have to admit, I did get a great deal on the price via Morgan's Deals, although I would expect the service to be the same as if I had paid the full price because the whole point is to get repeat business off of intro deals. As I was waiting for my therapist to come out and greet me, the receptionist had 3/3 different conversations with staff where they were negatively taking about customers. Here I am, my first time here, feeling very comfortable now! The massage therapist greeted me, I had checked both of the boxes "firm" and "deep" for general preference of the pressure during massage. She looked at me like I was crazy and seemed annoyed that I was "not more specific". Kind of funny to me actually. I mean, I'm sure pressure is relative and not summed up by (3) check boxes. I told her that it depended on how I was feeling but I'd settle for the firm today- that satisfied her. One of the nice parts about the massage was she used a hot towel on my back from the beginning to loosen my back up and then cleaned my feet with hot wet towels at the end so my feet wouldn't be slippery. Tipped my 20% on full value and left much more relaxed. That was the whole point. Nothing special- other than the price (and I've had about 50-60 massages). The walls were very thin and you have to walk through a hall of people getting facials to get to your massage room. read more

I've never tried this place, but I doubt I ever will. I bought a couple of coupons from Morgan's Deals a few months ago for me and my mom and forgot that I had never used them. I called them to ask if I could still use them, and they flat out said no. I accept responsibility for the fact that I didn't stay on top of the expiration date, but it's not as if I asked them if I could redeem a free coupon. I figure 3-stars based on customer service is fair. I'm partly to blame for not using them before the expiration date, but I think they should have honored the deal still since I actually paid for it. My favorite facial in Austin! I had tried lots of places using Groupons, some good, some terrible. After my first facial at Skin Zen I stopped shopping around. The space is warm, friendly, and very relaxing. The Essential facial (their basic facial) is more than most places offer with upgrades - and there's a full arm/shoulder/neck/scalp massage as well. I felt the most comfortable there and their products make my skin really glow! Normally I get the big hormonal acne once a month, but that has since stopped once I started going to Skin Zen. These ladies aren't afraid to get in there and do extractions, which with my problematic skin is what I need the most, and where aestheticians often skimp, in my experience. I was getting myself prepared for a reschedule, but Vanessa told me to sit and she would sort it out. She did. Amazing! I've become use to Austin's lack of customer service and was pleasantly surprised. Facial (C. Solomon) and massage (Anita) was amazing. I really love the products they use for the facial and would love to buy them; however, quite pricey, pricey! I'm sure it is worth it, b-u-t, instead I opted for received a facial each month for $49. Personally, I think that is a steal. With moving from Houston to Austin, my skin has yet to adjust. With that membership, you get discount on other services, including waxing! Conveniently located across from the Arboretum, near World Market. The Cons: It is group facials. What this means, is there are several women in chairs down a corridor with dividers. I did not mind this, because when they have the humidifier over you face, you can't hear anything and everyone is super sensitive to sound and whispers. However, there is a chair right in front of the main door and I would hate that seat. Especially, since that door continually opens and probably shines light in. After being extremely relaxed and calm, the check out area can become cramped and crowded. It put a slight buzz-kill to my zen-like vibe. But, at cheap rates, who can truly complain? My sister gave me a gift certificate to this place for my birthday, so I was kind of forced into my first facial, I guess. The staff was very friendly and attentive. The manager was great, and I watched her handle a dissatisfied customer beautifully. The waiting room is nice and clean, and you aren't overwhelmed by smelly products like a lot of other spa places. Before you go into the back to receive your facial, you are asked to change into a comfy spa robe. I was led into a dark room with pan flute spa music, and she sat me down in this huge chair that leans all the way back with your feet up, and it takes all of the pressure off your back, that was cool. The girl did an evaluation of my skin, and the current products I used, and actually gave me some recommendations that could be found at a drugstore along with her own spa product pitch. Then she preceded to facial me. Along with the facial, you get an upper body massage and scalp massage. Warning: If you might have someplace to go after your facial, DO NOT get a scalp massage. Your hair will look crazy and greasy from the oil on the esthetician's hands. Overall, the facial was great, the service was great, but the one problem was a major problem, and enough to knock off 2 stars. When I go to have a spa treatment, I want to be relaxed, with no distractions. You are given a facial in a big communal room with lots of other folks, and my particular chair was right by the door, so the door was constantly opening every 5 mins. At one point it was an employee going to throw away her yogurt cup. WTF? The door opening was totally messing up my chi. I suppose the communal room is to help keep the facials more affordable, but I would rather pay $20 more in order to have my private undisturbed room so I can get my relax on. read more

I have no idea what the complaints are about from other Yelpers. It wasn't crowded on a Friday at lunchtime, so I can't imagine that's its difficult to get an appointment. The facial was in a common area but the lighting is kept low, everyone is very quiet and I was completely relaxed. Plus, the partitions are quite extensive I do think the facility is making a mistake however, pricing the regular deals so high unless you "join" There is simply too much competition in Austin so I'll do what others are doing... In part due to frugality, I never indulge in paying for spa services in the U.S. for myself, even though there's muscle tension in the neck and shoulders. However, thanks to Groupon 15% off Local Deals, it was $24 for $60, and they had a Deep Tissue Special for Newcomers $59. That said, with the typical $10 to $15 service tip, it was roughly $35. Calling in, the closest appointment was 1:45pm the following Tuesday. I arrived 5-minutes early, filled out a form and waited until 1:53 because the massage room wasn't ready. The premises were tidy and clean, good staff, the nature sounds of water is relaxing, and the lighting is dim. I have to say, I wish they developed a less business-oriented sitting room and more of a spa-space-energy. Mindy was delightful and I thoroughly enjoyed her technique and her company. She is just so cheery. I loved her neck massage. The rest of the body was just "eh". I suggested twice to put more pressure, and she did push harder, but she focused much more on relaxation and shaking the body loose than rubbing out the tough knots. (I gave a generous tip anyway, because she was basically a really good person.) Perhaps as a personal preference, I like to be sore after a good massage. In China, Hungary, India and Mexico, I think masseuses put more heart and soul into it, and either you fall asleep or you are just helplessly luxuriating in understanding hands that seem to speak to your muscles in an interconnected form of nonverbal communication. I had a facial but unfortunately I can't remember the name of the kind lady that did it. My facial was 60 minutes and was so relaxing I almost fell asleep. In between serums/hot towels/masks she also massaged my neck, arms, and shoulders. The extractions hurt a little bit but nothing too bad. Afterwards my skin felt really clean and refreshed! I visited Skin Zen Spa for the 1st time with an online voucher I had purchased. I indulge in massages only when I can use a web deal, even if it requires a lengthy drive from my home. The 40 minute drive to this business was worth every mile. Amy, the receptionist, was very busy with waiting clients, phone calls, delivering glasses of champagne for Valentines Day customers yet she had the perfect mix of personalism and professionalism and never let customers see her stress. My background of evaluating and training customer service employees compels me to write this glowing review when it is well deserved. I do not purchase online coupons without checking a businesses reputations 1st and Skin Zen Spa's review was a mixed bag. I found that if I booked with the masseuse, Anita, I had a pretty fair shot. After my visit I can see why she is recommended. I have found THEE best masseuse I have encountered. Not only did she apply just the perfect amount of pressure for me, but she she had quite a few techniques that I had not experienced before that I enjoyed. She is one of those rare technicians that seems to truly get into what she is doing and pays attention to anatomy, muscle and tendon structure while she is into the massage. I've had many massages where the masseuse seems to be just going through the motions but Anita is a rare find and doesn't skip a beat. I will return to Skin Zen Spa. I hope they have online vouchers again soon. If not, I will participate in their monthly membership program. I do suggest to anyone who has a coupon to book your appointments right away when you purchase the coupon due to the tight scheduling weeks before a coupon expires. I now have a system that works for me where I check reviews 1st, purchase massage and then schedule appointment right away so I don't lose out anymore when a voucher expires. read more

I purchased a Living Social or Groupon or one of those discount coupons. It was for a 70 minute massage. The place is very nice, front staff was ok but not overly nice/attentive. The back "quiet area" was nice and peaceful. It would have been a very good experience had I received my full massage. I paid for a 70 minute massage and was on the table a whole 40 minutes tops. The massage was very good but I was extremely dissapointed when it was cut short. If I had paid full price for my massage, I would have complained at the time but since I didn't, I felt bad complaining. But I will not return here because of my short massage. I'd rather go somewhere and receive my full 70 minutes. read more
