She did a quick consultation and then the facial began. I've had lots of facials from when I used to work in spas and this facial was in my top 3! The attention th detail for the extractions was great! My skin actually felt clean. Evelyn suggested a different facial from the one I originally booked and said it would be a better option for my skin. She's the expert so I agreed. We also added on the red light therapy. My skin had no problems with the facial, in fact, my skin felt so hydrated and it was so glowy afterwards! Evelyn's face massage technique was very relaxing, especially around the eye area. Unfortunately the facial had to end, but I already knew I would return. One thing I really appreciated was after the facial, there was no membership pitching or product pushing. It's annoying and really uncomfortable to be bombarded with a pitch after a relaxing service. They do have a membership which I am considering doing, but the only thing holding me back is lack of availability on Saturdays for massages. At my follow up, I told Dr. Rullan that I was really happy with my results and did not need any additional injections. We briefly discussed possibly doing a peel or laser in the future, and I told them I needed to look at my schedule and would get back to them. When I went to check out, I was surprised when I was told the visit would be $130. I explained that I had not been told there would be a charge for the three week follow up and that, had I known, I would not have scheduled the appointment because I was already happy with my results. This was especially confusing because my initial consultation had been complimentary and I had paid $130 for the injections themselves. Dr. Rullan kindly came over and waived the fee, and I apologized for the misunderstanding. Unfortunately, what happened afterward left me feeling incredibly humiliated. Mary, the office manager, told me, "You don't go out to eat without paying, do you?" She told me that the doctor's time is valuable, that a consultation or even asking a question about a procedure is a $130 fee, and that I was no longer welcome back. I completely understand that a physician's time is valuable, and I have no problem paying fees that are communicated to me beforehand. My issue was never about expecting a doctor's time for free. I simply was not aware that the follow up I had been instructed to schedule would cost another $130. I had actually been very happy with Dr. Rullan and was considering returning for a peel or laser treatment, which makes the way this interaction ended even more disappointing. I wish the fee had been clearly communicated when the follow up was scheduled and, more importantly, that the misunderstanding had been handled with kindness and professionalism rather than making me feel embarrassed and unwelcome.
