(See Laura H. review 12/8) Skinny Wimp moved us in late November (last minute) and did such an incredible job, we hired them again to move my mother yesterday. What could have gone sideways didn't, and they were just as fast, efficient, and courteous as the first time. Incredible experience. We needed immediate help with a recent move, and James and his team were concise and clear with everything from the quote through showing up and getting the job done. James was honest and upfront about pricing, and there wasn't any sticker shock. They took excellent care of our "stuff" and moved quickly. James, it's unfortunate your reading comprehension is poor but let me explain it to you. The valuation is 60 cents per pound and my claim was for 508 lbs x 60 cents = $304. To replace the table is $2k-3k and I did not ask for a free move, just the claim amount of $304 for the table. I'll also note we tipped your movers (after the breakage) $200 cash, 3 bottles of champagne, a PlayStation4; AND provided lunch, iced coffees, bottled waters, AND set up 2 canopies to keep them out of the rain and sun. We're not the cheap ones here... And yes, will include photos of the damage IN BOTH HOUSES. We did not claim for that because we're actually reasonable people with reasonable expectations. Your own workers said you NEVER pay claims so it's clear you have no intention to take any responsibility for any damage SW does. I'll be submitting a claim to the BBB to go along with the one you had earlier this year. NOTICE A PATTERN HERE. Your contract DOES NOT STATE stone items are not covered, in fact there's a section titled "Stone Items". And again, we were not told, nor was it in the contract to have a crate beforehand--or we would have secured one. And yes, I signed the SURPRISE waiver AFTER my items were already loaded. Your 1-3 points make no sense in this situation. And notice all the profiles of the good reviews... no other reviews, photos, or comments. Likely fake to dupe others into your services. read more

5-star rating for this family owned moving company. I've moved several times over the years and this was by far the most cost reasonable, conscientious,  communicative moving company I've ever used. We moved from the Austin area to the Houston area . We bought/ packed our own boxes and the company provided/included 8 wardrobe boxes . James , the owner, came with 2 helpers who loaded the truck while James did the packing and the wrapping of the furniture. Both helpers Isaiah and Zay were about as careful as anyone could be. The furniture was delivered and unloaded  the next day by the same helpers and with the driver Dustin. On time, carefully done was very appreciated by us. I would use them again in a heartbeat and highly recommended. read more

I don't know that my words will ever be enough to express exactly how grateful I am to those at Skinny Wimp Moving. The incredible experience started with Alexis during the quoting process, and never once faltered. My family and I moved from Houston to Oklahoma, which was no easy task. However, the incredible team at Skinny Wimp made the move so much less stressful!! Every single person we dealt with busted their butt and a decent sweat moving our belongings out of our third-floor apartment (no elevator!) in Houston's heat and humidity. They then made the trip to Stillwater, OK and unloaded everything in record time. The guys were careful to place the boxes and totes in the rooms listed, and made sure they not only put our large furniture together, but triple checked that we didn't need any further assistance before heading out. They even took the trash with them. Honestly, I don't know that what they charged was enough. I owe these guys so much more than a thank you. No only did I get my money's worth; they gained a loyal customer My family and I move fairly often for work, and I have to say I'd never use another moving company if I had the option. To say I am a little bummed that Skinny Wimp isn't located in other areas is a gross understatement. The consistency and dedication carried through from the inquiry to the wrap up is unmatched by any company I have ever dealt with. Skinny Wimp Moving - Movers Near Me

I would look at other moving services before using Skinny Wimp. I booked a move for 8/15/24 and the initial deposit charged on 8/5. When booking, I was told it would be a 9AM start time, which is perfectly fine. The day before, I was informed the three-men crew handling my move will be coming from out of town and won't be on site until 10AM. A little disappointing as one of the perks when seeking quotes roughly a month earlier, I requested an early start time, especially moving from a 3-story townhouse to a new residence roughly an hour away, and one of the reasons I chose this company. The loading and unloading process was fine. They took roughly a 30 minute break for lunch. The issue I had came within the last 90-120 minutes of unloading and set up. The two younger gentlemen remained in the house unwrapping, assembling, and placing the furniture items where they needed to go. They were instructed to leave the majority of the packaged boxes in the garage. During this time mentioned, the main gentleman/driver remained outside in the truck for the most part (not much folding up runners and towels as that is done as they go). He would occasionally pop back into the house to check on the other two gentlemen, bark some orders, and return to the truck. This happened three times during the 30 minutes it took to assemble the primary bed. Upon checkout, I noticed they actually didn't completely assemble the bed, they just slid the support beams underneath it. In addition, they left two TV's in boxes instead of setting them up and I had to remind them to finish setting up the armoire as it was missing its feet and shelving. When I pointed this out, they simply only set the TV's up and put the feet on the armoire. When I again pointed out the bed, the young man stated the other (young) guy is tired and is ready to go but he can come by another time free of charge to fix it correctly. There was no involvement from the main guy/driver as he remained in the truck. It was the other guy who just said "here's your invoice do you want to leave gratuity?" With the amount of work performed, I left $550 in gratuity, even though what was deserved was much less than that after this. After they left, I reached out to April, who I used to book the service, shared the information and pictures; I wound up setting up the rest of the bed myself and fixing the shelves. If they had been on time at the scheduled 9AM start time as initially booked, they would've been done an hour then their actual 6PM time. Had the main guy/driver been willing to help within the past 90-120 minutes, they also would've been done sooner. I simply feel the main guy didn't help in order to run up the time/cost. After I shared my concerns with April, she reached out to me the following day to apologize and to state she would forward my emailed concerns over to her manager, Alexis. I have reached out now two other times since then seeking a refund of the final two hours of work in which the clock was simply run up without any response. Due to the shady practice and lack of customer service on multiple fronts, I will not be using Skinny Wimp Moving again and will share my experience with others. read more

Yep, they moved us all right. The young guys packing up our house were very polite but in too much of a hurry. Several items broken as in shattered beyond repair. David was by far the most contentious and careful packer. I kept asking Alexis at their office for the claim form and didn't receive one until today. Now I know why. They only pay .60 cents per pound?? WTH does that even mean? They chipped a big place out of an antique pitcher, chipped the end off of a Mardi Gras mask and shattered my bronze 30" tall Sailor statue. So far..... Still haven't finished unpacking. My heart is sick about the statue and my great aunt's lemonade pitcher. On the bright side so many boxes are mislabeled that it is like Christmas you just don't know what's really in the box. When hiring these guys please wrap and pack any valuables and sentimental items yourself. Then you should do ok. Lesson learned again.... You get what you pay for. read more

Scheduled movers after getting quote here on Yelp. Quick to reply, easy to book. They emailed me a contract for e-signature right after confirming through Yelp messaging. They also offered me an earlier time of day which wouldn't work for me but was nice of them to ask. (BTW my email program sent the contract to the spam folder, so I didn't get to it right away, however they have a pretty generous quote validity window so no worries there.) Customer service-wise they were pleasant and pretty efficient, but when it came to packing and moving our furniture, there wasn't much that wasn't damaged, some of it so badly that we had to donate it to Goodwill. One piece, a dining room table, James admitted to packing poorly in the truck, and the result was that the table arrived severely damaged. Our bookcases were gouged and scratched, a lamp table with a huge chunk of wood chipped off, sofa and love seat filthy when they arrived. They are fast when they pack up but extremely careless. Even though we bought the insurance, it doesn't cover the cost of the damage they did, the repair cost, or replacement value. These folks came with mixed reviews. Like some on this site, they are very happy with the service. Others, though, had exactly the same experience we did--everything damaged, dirty, or destroyed. read more

I have used this company for two different moves. They have taken better care of my stuff than I would have. If I were moving it, take care of that they use in protecting each item is better than any other moving company that I have used before. Their movers are always friendly. They even spent time, figuring out how to do things better so that they had less time involved in the move. That was a win for me! Can't recommend them enough. read more

Afrer realizing an issue had arisen due to a moving error, Skinny Wimps is going to remedy the situation. They have scheduled a repacking of a storage unit. I will write a review following the scheduled job for Wednesday. I am glad that they were willing to come to an agreement with my storage facility. To follow up, we had to wait a day due to weather, but Eric is here to the rescue. It's nice to see a familiar face. I am glad that this is all being moved inside a climate controlled storage facility. It's a very hot day and we are able to enjoy cold drinks in the air conditioning. My wife and I have moved a ton since we got married 7 years ago. We moved from Manhattan to Queens, Queens to St. Louis, St. Louis to University City (still in MO), U City to Nashville and Nashville to Houston. Today we moved within the same city using Skinny Wimps and they were amazing. We have had some major horror stories with our moves but these guys were amazing, worked hard, put up with my kid who kept following after them all day and were efficient. If you are moving within Houston or from Houston to another states I am confident they will be better than anyone else you hire. Jason was amazing and so was his crew! *****Update****** We used these guys again this week to move from Katy to Richmond and once again they were amazing. The BEST movers! I've used Skinny Wimp Moving multiple times and my parents have used them as well. I've used them for local and long distance moves. I highly recommend this company. Jason and Tommy are the BEST! Quick, efficient, but careful with my stuff and made sure that everything was done before leaving. The areas were cleaned up from the wrapping and they assembled furniture. I appreciated the communication throughout the move- I received a call the day before, as well as when they were 15 min from arriving to load up and 30 min out to unload ( this particular move was intrastate) . Communication is great and had a great time chatting with the movers while they were working and they didn't skip a beat! The rolled out a carpet to prevent tracking too much dust and dirt from outside. Tons of moving blankets to prevent scratches. Well I want to start my review while the guys were here so I will. These guys came in and there's about 6 of them and they are extremely fit young men. Every single one of them was beyond polite and introduced themselves and their 1st name to us when they arrived. Everyone knows how stressful a move can be so this is a great way to start off an excellent experience. The owner and another superstar employee arrived yesterday to help out with packing and we only used them for a couple of hours. I could have used them some more but I was interested in saving a little bit more money. Jason the crew lead is good friends with the owner so he treats the business like it's his own which I love. I was really hoping this moving company would be as a review but it wasn't.... just not professional at all... I had to moved while it's raining and movers dragged my mattress to dirty floor which they walking around with no shoes covered.... They didn't lift my mattress they just dragged it down and look pictures. Off course nothing they can do because I signed weaver... which I sent pictures this moving company... They have really awful customer service.... Nothing we can do because you signed weaver not rapping by tapes your items... So That's why I wasn't complaining about my scar and scratches my dressers.... But who dragged mattress on the floor in rains ...... Brayton and D were a great team and showed up and got straight to work moving me from my 2nd floor apartment to a first floor unit in the same complex. They showed up and we discussed the move and they decided it would be a waste of time to load up the truck just to move me across the parking lot. They were a great time and while one staged the other ran the items across to the new apartment. No time was wasted and they got everything done within a 2 hour time frame even bringing some of the items I hadn't packed yet. The only reason I didn't give a 5 was because during the course of the move my bookshelf was broken which they were upfront and honest about and they had no way of knowing that although it was a simple bookshelf it was the last thing my mother bought me before she died so it was a priceless memento. These fine gentlemen moved my family of 7 from a 5 bedroom home to a 6 bedroom home. They arrived early and stayed late. Overall, the team did a fantastic job and moved everything from my custom Brazilian Hardwood Desk, 800lb Safe, multiple fragile items and China. They were courteous and professional even into the waning hours of the job. I didn't hear a single complaint from any one of those gentlemen and they truly got the job done right. No furniture was damaged and they even set up our beds for us as their last act of service so we could go to sleep in our new home as soon as they left (and we did). Hands down the easiest moving process yet. I've had over 20 addresses in my lifetime and a lot of self moves and moves where the movers broke, lost or stole items. We had none of these problems working with SWM. These guys moved quickly, efficiently and were very professional to deal with. I would definitely recommend them to anyone I know that is looking for assistance moving. The loading process was completed quickly and when unloading at the new place they were sure to put boxes in respective rooms and to stack them neatly which really helped getting set up. James, your response to my last review was most unsatisfactory. First, the only response I got to my call was, "We will get back with you." That is not an explaniation or a response. Travel time was not 0.25 hours. I drove right in front of the truck, 10 minutes tops. When I called to schedule the move, the estimate I was given was $220. I told your receptionist, during my 1st. call, that I had furniture that was damaged. I was not going to make an issue of it because I was so happy with my 1st. move. I am still not requesting reimbursement but am attaching pictures. I called because 1 of the men you sent work was very unacceptable and certainly not the excellent work I observed during my 1st. move. I thought you would like to be informed of this. Apparently not. Again, a "we will get back with you" and no return call is not a response. My 2nd. call was just a request for an explaination of the additional $75 charged to my credit card. No explaniation was ever forthcomming. You just do not seem to get the fact that my main complaint was not about the charges but about 1 of the 2 men you sent. The men arrived and within 30 minutes he was asking me if I had any bottled water. He then disappeared for awhile and returned with water. I sat and watched while he wasted 10 minutes trying to carry a number of items in 1 trip to the van. He seemed very pleased with himself when he carried them a short distance, not very far. I did not need to move to see him drop them. He eventually had to make 2 trips. I felt sorry for the other man. He did twice as much of the work. I am sorry that I had to publish all of this on yelp. I have moved many many times with numerous major van lines and I can't tell you how much I enjoyed working with this company. From the first phone call, to the in home estimate, to the quote, to move day and the close of the move. Everything James stated was exact if not better!
