We agreed on 3 guys at a total of $105 an hour and a total of $75 for transportation 4 weeks prior to them showing up at my place yesterday (Friday, June 6, 2025). They were supposed to pack yesterday and move me today. They worked a total of 3.5 hours and charged me additional $300 for boxes, tapes, and wrapping papers. Initially, they asked for $400 yesterday but we agreed at $300 since they had never ever quoted me on packing. So, I paid $442.50 for labor & transportation and paid $300 for packing materials totaling $742.50 via Zelle to Jose Segovia at 832-788-7302 yesterday per the attached receipt! I had specifically asked them to move me and unpack me when they show up tomorrow. They said sure - no problem. Today - Saturday (June 7, 2025) - the day of the move, they texted me and said to me that they would not unpack my boxes. I said I would really need their help as there are several boxes to unpack by myself. They said there was another move just booked after my move so they would not do it. I still said positively "let's try to do our best to unpack my boxes by moving faster and unpacking them faster without breaking anything since everything is ready to go". They said, "yes that is fine". And they have never showed up. I have sent them several text messages for the last 4 hours! They have never responded to my text messages. They have actually blocked my phone number as each time I called them; my call directly went to their voicemail. This is what they did to me today - the day of my move! I have had all freight elevators booked for today as there are no freight elevators available tomorrow (Sunday - June 8, 2025). Thus, I really needed to move out of my current apartment and move into my new apartment today. So, I have been calling around desperately to find movers to move me out today. It is almost 2pm now on Saturday and got only until 5pm to use the freight elevators booked for today. I have just found a moving company. They would charge me only $30 more for an hour for a total of 3 guys. So, they charged me $135 an hour for a total of 3 guys instead of SMART MOVING COMPANY which would charge me $105 an hour for a total of 3 guys. These 3 guys that are helping me last minute can be contacted at 832-563-8533. They did not take advantage of my desperate situation. So, I am so thankful to them! With respect to SMART MOVING COMPANY - I think they shall be shamed for what they have done to me! I think no one should ever do business with SMART MOVING COMPANY! These are the people who never show up, never honor their words, consistently let you down, and do not even bother calling you and letting you or returning your calls. They took four and a half hours to move our two bedroom house, and they didn't even finish! We were quoted 3 hours. One guy was always missing from the team, on the truck listening to music, eating food, folding blankets, organizing their equipment, playing on their phone, but not moving our furniture. We moved almost the same furniture 2 years ago with an hour drive (today was 20 mins) and it took less time than this. They called to say they could be there early at noon (scheduled for 1pm), and showed up at 12:30. Wait the extra half hour and eat your food on your time. Boxes were thrown around, flipped sideways and upside down (despite being marked "top" and "fragile"). Who knows how many broken items we will find in the next few days. We were charged extra for plastic wrapping, which they never mentioned in our multiple messages. They said they would bring plastic and blankets to wrap our furniture, but not that they charged extra for it. The head guy was limping as soon as he got to the job. The rest of the time, his hand hurt, his side hurt, he couldn't do his job. When they got to our new house, he took video of our house and neighborhood. When I texted their boss Marlon about this, his response was he never said the plastic was free. Book the slightly more expensive company. You'll come out ahead in the long run! I was going to give them 3 stars bc they did MOVE our furniture. Not well and not quickly, but they did move it. Confirmed move for 9 am - movers showed up at 8:20 and told them I wasn't ready and needed 10-15 mins But the semi truck they brought was a- way too big for the amount of items I needed moved and b- it was too big for my small street and took up neighbors yards and blocked their driveways (both sides of me). I told the driver to not block their driveways (neighbors). When I came back out to "start" the movers and truck were gone and they blocked my calls. REALLY- because your truck was too big and I wasn't ready 40 mins before my requested and confirmed time - you left me scrambling for a move. Unprofessional at every level. Lost a star because their communication needs improvement. They waited till the day before to tell me they couldn't move my things and that's only because I reached out to confirm. This company is absolutely HORRIBLE! I hired them for my move a month in advance and on the morning of my they canceled on me because THIS COMPANY DOES NOT CARRY OR PROVIDE MOVERS INSURANCE. They left me hanging with nothing. The driver showed up and when I asked them about the insurance they said they had to cancel. I read the reviews, so I high expectations but not unreasonable. I absolutely do recommend this moving company. The only thing they did right was show up. There were 3 men. One was the very polite, one was very quiet and followed the team member's instructions well. The third one referred to the truck as his and was in a hurry and unprofessional. He was very irritated at having to be there. My very expensive leather sectional was haphazardly wrapped in plastic and without blankets. They advertised helping pack and having all kinds of boxes.... Absolutely not true. They packed my 75 tv in plastic and then left the all of the hardware required to hang the tv back at the apartment. I asked the team leader if he had boxes for hanging clothes... he said put them in that(referring to trash bags) and we'll take them.... Then they left them back at the apartment. I placed things against the wall in the living room to be moved they picked what they wanted to move... left a lamp and artificial plants on the floor. I told them the things in the br closet... went back after they had left and discovered 4 boxes on the shelf. My new house has light tan carpet... I asked if they had shoes covers... the guy (Mohawk hairdo) said no as if it were an unreasonable request. The rude one was in such a hurry he left his dolly and when I was telling him.. he rolled his eyes like "now what". I hired movers because I don't have family or friends to help me... I've never been so disappointed. I tried to suck it up and finish the move in my car but but the time I gathered all the things they left... it was impossible . THANK GOD for 911 Houston Movers!!!! When our other moving company dropped us on a Friday with our move scheduled for Monday, Yelp came through and Smart Moving Company was responsive, competitively priced, and kept us updated throughout the entire process. They arrived within the 1 hour window we were given on Friday, the truck parked courteously for the apartment neighbors, and then we were a go! They hustle. They were careful with our stuff but without bogging down. There was a bit of language barrier with the two other crew members but that was overcome with pointing and grabbing the leader. What really impressed me is getting a fair, budget rate but really great service- case and point i was expecting them to unload our bed frame and mattress but they actually set it back up in the new apartment after asking where we wanted it.
