Monday afternoon lunch, party of 3. Here is what we liked: * Cool vibe just feels and looks fun. * Sat on the patio, took maybe 3 minutes to be seated. It is a small place. We were greeted immediately upon entering. Everyone was nice. *Patio is cool with the large tree growing in the middle of it. * All 3 of us got a variation of the jerked chicken. * Jerked chicken tostadas were just flavorful and delicious. *Calypso nachos with the jerked chicken, the pineapple paired well and just good nachos. *Pac-rim salad with jerked chicken, big serving and a nice crunch with the cabbage Cole slaw paired with a peanut vinaigrette and the jerked chicken. Delicious. * Our serve was attentive but not over burdening. Checked in, was super pleasant, just darn right nice. *Chocolate bread pudding was recommend and it was moist and warm with a good scoop of vanilla ice cream. The caramel drizzle was the highlight for me. What could of been better: *A me thing for nachos, when piled high the bottom gets soggy before you can enjoy them. What a great place. The food is always delicious and service is always great. Inside is nice but it is a small place. If it is warm out, sit on their outdoor patio under the tree. I actually ended up going there twice this week- once for lunch and once for dinner. For lunch I had their Bombay chicken salad where the chicken is curried and on top of a cabbage slaw with a bright citrus vinaigrette. 3 small pieces of flatbread accompanied the salad along with a Fruit chutney that tasted like apple pie. I ordered an additional side of flatbread which came warm and was quite good with the chutney. The curry chicken is outstanding so I was tempted to have it for dinner later that week but decided to try their Bahamian curry which was excellent- a bowl of rice with curried chicken, sweet potato and kale. My husband had the special which was Mahi mahi Marsala and he raved about it. If that is on the menu next time I will definitely get it. The restaurant knows how to spice their food so definitely check it out. They do not take reservations but turnover seems to be pretty quick particularly at lunch. read more

Was looking for the "absolutely" instead of just "yes" for recommend! First time this week. Everyone's food looked AMAZING! The colors and spices jump off the plate. We stumbled on this little gem of a restaurant looking to escape the Memorial Day crowds on Saint Simons Island. Our party was thoroughly impressed and surprised by the quality of the food. We started off with the mezze plate, which was almost a meal in itself. The hummus was exceptional. One of us had the Bombay Chicken Salad and I had the dinner special of tuna, both of which were delicious. But the winner of the night was the sesame crusted catfish. 5 Stars for a cute little "shanty" with a charming outdoor dining area (featuring a 100+ year old tree!) and lovely service. We opted to sit outside because the atmosphere is too good to pass up. Check out the photos! Our server, Brianna, was an absolute delight and helped guide us to sharing the Calypso salad and Sesame Crusted catfish. Both dishes were fantastic, but what really stood out is that they served us the catfish on two dishes and split it for us. I'm sure we got more rice and sauce because of this, but it was just so considerate since they knew we were going to share! It's the little things... Been wanting to try Indigo Coastal Shanty since it was featured on Triple D. They have an interesting menu with some eclectic items. They had a special menu going for Brunswick Spice restaurant week which featured the Mezze appetizer, the Sesame crusted catfish with rice for the entree, and chocolate bread pudding for dessert at $33.95. My wife decided to try that, and I ordered the Chile Relleno with black beans and Isla slaw, and an appetizer of plantains. The plantains were crispy, cut lengthwise in slices and with a side of guacamole. The catfish was a nice portion and was tasty. The slaw was also pretty good. I liked the Chili Relleno which had a rich tomato base Ranchero sauce with cheese and stuffed with a tasty pork. It' wasn't a huge portion, but just about right. The chocolate bread pudding was piping hot when it came out and just enough to sample. It was good I would probably try Indigo again to try other items on the menu. I would rate it a 4.2 out of five and worth giving it a try. read more

The moment we walked into this place, we felt welcomed. The staff greeted us, asked us how we were doing, and they sounded like they really wanted to know. Service was impeccable and fast. The food was delicious. We had the pimento burger, fries, GA peach pound cake, and strawberry, kiwi, sangria. This is the best food i had while on my trip to Saint Simon's! It came highly recommended and lives up to the high praise. We came at 2pm on a Thursday and it was packed. I was pretty surprised. An absolute gem. If you are not eating here you are missing out BIG TIME. Don't underestimate this small, bohemian shack. Its colorful, laid back vibe serves next level southern food that will knock your socks off. This was the best catfish I have ever had. So fresh - as if they just pulled it out of the water. It had a perfectly crispy batter and a moist and even slightly sweet center. And it was served on a bed of Asian style slaw that complemented the fish exceptionally with a perfectly cooked serving of rice. Amazing! The fried green tomato appetizer will blow you away as well. Crunchy, juicy, with an incredibly rich marinara on one side, and creamy cheesey grits on the other. So good! The fried okra is also highly recommended. Taking a short vacation, I sought out local fare without the commercial persona. Perusing through Yelp, the first option on the list was this curious place called Indigo Coastal Shanty. It had a raw, hip artsy vibe from the photos and i knew I would potentially experience a unique and non conforming eclectic menu to appease my inner jive. I was not disappointed, as the menu provided several unique offerings that I was sure would tantalize my tastebuds. I selected the jerk Mahi magical sandwich with black beans and rice on the side. It was delicious, albeit dripping with sauce after i picked it up. No matter, I enjoyed every bite. I sat outside next to the wonderfully large tree that had a beautiful presence, and a fly was making attempts at making landing strip anywhere near my dining experience. It made the ambience more stimulating. All in all, I throughly enjoyed the stay and look forward to my next adventure there. read more

My daughter and her family moved to Brunswick at the beginning of the year, and this was one of the restaurants she really wanted to try. We ended up sitting outside on the patio, which during the summertime can be quite warm. However, we did find a little shade near the back of the patio. Overall, the service was good, but the food was great. We ended up ordering a number of items and shared them so that we could sample more of their menu. We shared the Calypso nachos. They offered a unique blend of flavors, including melting Mexican cheeses, black beans, corn, jerk chicken, pineapple salsa, and guacamole. My daughter tried the Bahamian chicken curry dish as her entrée. It tasted fresh and flavorful with sweet potato & kale in a coconut milk curry broth over fragrant jasmine rice. I ordered the pimento cheeseburger as my entrée. It's a juicy 8 oz. burger with grilled onions & their chunky melting pimiento. It was cooked a perfect medium, rare, and it was one of the best burgers I've had in quite a long time. I've now visited five times, and this tops my list for casual dining in the Brunswick/SSI area. I was trying something different every time I visited... until I had the pimento cheeseburger. I love a good burger, and while I generally prefer a traditional burger with American cheese, the pimento they put on this burger is to die for. Creamy, cheesy, delightfully salty, on a fantastic bun, cooked to perfection (med. rare is the way to go). This is the best burger I've ever had. As always, the service is great. And a shout out to the mezze for a starter. Love that hummus and feta. If you're anywhere near Brunswick, the Shanty should absolutely be on your radar for great eats in an unpretentious setting for a reasonable price. read more

Super delicious food and dog friendly. They have a nice patio and they even give a "dog meal" which is complimentary and it has rice and grilled chicken. First, this place gets 4 1/2 stars as this place has a little bit of a Keysish vibe to it with excellent food! We were greeted by a friendly hostess who was able to seat us right away. There are approximately 10 tables inside and about another dozen out in a tree covered patio area which would be a cool spot to eat & hang when the weather is a bit warmer. We started with the plantains w/guac and our server gave us their hot sauce which had a little sting but excellent flavor. The plantains & guac were fresh and a great way to start our lunch. I had the Fisherman's Bowl which was awesome! It was tomato based with fennel & feta cheese throughout as well as ample amount fish & shrimp. It's similar to a Cioppino style fish soup but thicker. Highly recommend as did Guy Fieri. My wife had the Pac-Rim Noodle bowl with Mahi-Mahi (6 oz.) which was served nicely and per my wife was a perfectly cooked piece of blackened Mahi-mahi and the greens etc were fresh and delicious! Guess I'm in the minority, but I was underwhelmed by my dish. The "crust" on the famous sesame crusted catfish was so hard it cut the roof of my mouth and the whole dish was under-seasoned to my palate. I subbed sweet potato fries for the rice and glad I did because they were my favorite part of the meal. While for me the food was only 3 stars I'm giving 4 because I loved the ambience and location of this cute restaurant and the service was off-the-charts excellent, something that is indeed rare to come by these days. This place could easily live anywhere in the Caribbean and not seem out of place at all. We stopped in Brunswick for 1 night on a road trip and found this gem on yelp. Relaxing on the patio with our dog was giving us pure vacation vibes. We got the Catfish sesame bowl for $20, it was absolutely amazing, and we had no problem splitting it between the two of us (they even brought it out separated already). BEST PART, they're dog friendly and love them, the chef noticed our doggo and brought out some boiled chicken and rice for him on the house. A hidden gem of Brunswick. This is off the beaten path and well known to the locals. The chile relleno was flavorful and perfectly cooked with just the right amount of spice. The beans and slaw were perfect to tone down the heat. Normally curries can be gritty but this one was silky smooth with a great depth of flavor. I wanted to lick the plate. The peach pound cake was warm and toasty with just the right amount of bourbon sauce. I highly recommend and look forward to our next visit. read more

By far the best meal found in Brunswick GA. Our party enjoyed every bite of the warm artichoke dip app. We followed that up with meatloaf, the Charleston and a special. My special plate was shrimp curry sautéed with veggies and served around rice. This dish was excellent in presentation and flavor. All dishes were enjoyed by everyone in our party. Also the warm shanty sundae capped off a great meal. Service from Kaia was excellent. Atmosphere here is casual with an outdoor patio. We will visit again. read more
