We love skips. Almost weekly we get their garlic chicken and different sausages. Great service too!!

Went in today to pick up a few things while in the village and won't be back. The man that helped us came from cashing people out, to getting our meat and never washed his hands or put gloves on!!!! He went from grabbing pork to grabbing chicken without washing his hands! I am grossed out I don't even want to eat the meat after watching that. Do better skips read more

I found this gem hidden in the Fairport Village Landing on a whim during lunch a few months ago. I'm so happy there's a great deli near my job. One thing Rochester lacks is great deli's. They have a variety of meats, sides, and salads on display and available to purchase by weight and size. All look fresh and delicious in the display cases. They also have a huge selection of cheeses, Boar's Head meats, hot sauces, breads, and other packaged goods that seemed to be mostly sourced locally. I've ordered a small size of seafood salad both times I've been here - it's a little more than 1/2lb at $11.99/lb - a good amount and price point for lunch. I plan to return many times to try other things. It's very tasty and made of imitation crab meat, shrimps, little scallops, celery and mayo. I can't give this place a five star rating yet because I wasn't able to order what I wanted this visit. I intended to get a sub but saw a sign posted on the display windows that subs weren't available because they were too busy and didn't have enough help - so I ordered the seafood salad again. When I went to check out, I saw the man in front of me had just received a sub, and when I was walking out, a heard a woman in line say to the attendants "you're not selling subs today?"... so I paused to hear their reply. No one said anything so the woman asked again. I walked out as they started taking her and her friend's sub orders. :/ read more

It's hard to find a good butcher shop these days because everyone just uses their local grocery store. Well, I prefer to support a local independent butcher shop, and today, I found an absolute gem. I've been following Skip's Butcher Shop in Fairport, NY for a while now on Instagram, I've had plenty of time lately as I'm recovering from shoulder surgery. Anyway, I stopped by this afternoon to finally check this place out. This Butcher Shop is fantastic, I can't wait to go back. Their selections of meats and cooking related items was very impressive, along with their competitive pricing and quality. But the thing that stands out for me, is their service. Everyone there was friendly and polite and really willing to help. You can tell the difference between employees that just have a job, and the people that genuinely want to help customers. Skip's offers lots of different homemade sausages, that's important to me. Their cuts of meat were impressive, everything was slightly larger/thicker and of obvious higher quality than virtually every other shop I've been to. The store is immaculate, every item is organized and clearly labeled making it easy to navigate through so you can find just the right item you want. The other thing that caught my eye is that they also offer enough selection of things like onions, potatoes, breads, buns and rolls that you don't have to make another trip to the grocery store, just to make a meal, everything is very well thought out. I'm including plenty of pictures so you can see for yourself, but the only way to find out, is to visit them yourself and I hope I've inspired you to pay them a visit. This place is amazing. Everything is fairly priced and there is a wide variety of meats and they even offer sides like potato salads and other cold salads. You can tell everything is real and authentic. Great to have little shops like these around. They make it so easy and convenient with the pull tabs to number the customers. Organized and they have you in and out with the amount of workers they have. read more

I can't believe Skip's only has 3 stars on here! I've been an avid Skip's customer ever since I lived in Fairport a couple years ago and decided I couldn't stand the low-quality chicken at my grocery store. I live downtown now but I will still make the drive because no place has ever measured up. Skip's is clean, reasonably priced, has GREAT customer service, an awesome selection of house-made specials (like pulled pork and a gazillion varieties of sausage), and a bunch of local products for sale, too! So not only do you get to stock up on beef, chicken, etc., you can grab a jar of salsa or a bottle of seasoning and maybe even a fresh sub or container of potato salad and take your lunch/dinner plans to the next level. Every time I walk in I find so many extra goodies I want to buy and I feel good knowing I'm supporting local business. Definitely stop in when you get the chance! read more

I went to this market this morning (Saturday 02/24/18) looking for stuffed pork chops. The woman who waited on me said "we don't have stuffed pork chops. We've never had stuffed pork chops." She spoke in a tone that made me feel foolish for asking her such a stupid question. Then another woman behind the counter said "we have stuffed pork chops but they have to be ordered ahead of time. We can have them for you by Tuesday." Then a man behind the counter said he could cut a pocket in a couple of thick pork chops that I could fill with my own stuffing. All in all, not a very pleasant experience, especially from the blonde woman who treated me like I was an idiot. I won't be going back. read more

To say I'm disappointed with the disregard for fair customer relations is not only accurate, but it's also well warranted. You see, my wife and I received a $50 gift certificate for Christmas to Skip's numerous years ago and we thought the certificate had accidentally gotten thrown out with the wrapping paper. We recently found it tucked inside a cook book that we had also gotten at the time, and attempted to redeem it earlier today, yet, to no avail. We were told that it wasn't from the Fairport location. That they don't use that color certificate and they didn't recognize the signature. I was befuddled, as it clearly stated that it could be used at all their locations, albeit, and regardless of the owner's sudden amnesia, it was purchased and issued at the Fairport Location by my brother and sister-in-law who were then residents of Fairport at that time. There was no offer of a reduced face value of the certificate or anything. Simply, taking the $50 in revenue and rendering no service or products in return. We've shopped at the location many times over the years and unfortunately, after the treatment we received today, we won't be back. Greed and dishonesty are not good business models. read more

I had to weigh in since; Amazing selection, Always fresh. Always tons of super helpful service. Prices are good when you weigh in the quality and service and sale prices move that up to great. We get tons of compliments when hosting by using their chicken and especially the custom sausages. Never change Skips. read more

I visited this store at noon on Tuesday, after seeing their website indicating that they had pork spareribs on sale. They had exactly two racks in the case, and both were white with frost. There were no other spareribs, fresh or frozen, to be had. Two women in line ahead of me asked for baby back ribs, and were told that there were none, but the truck might be there by 3-ish with a fresh delivery. All in all, the meat case looked about half-stocked. I won't return. Skips on Goodman Ave and Ridge Road have always done a great job for me. I tried the Fairport store on a friend's recommendation. I have no idea why he likes it. read more

I don't buy everything at Skip's (30 minutes away and Wegman's is also excellent), but everything I have ever bought at Skip's is as good as I've ever had. When I want something special, whether it's a large rib-eye roast, thick-cut rib-eye steaks, large top sirloin roast (for Beef Bourguignon and chili done the right way), I go to Skip's. I get just what I want, their customer service is excellent (I usually call ahead and order what I want), prices are reasonable...but the QUALITY of the meat is why I really keep coming back. They don't carry prime, but I prep my meats with salt and leave them uncovered in the refrigerator for a day or two, never wrapped up and covered with blood, and they are just as good as prime when I am ready to cook them. I feel Skip's is the kind of market that we are in danger of losing, so I support them as often as I'm able to. read more

I went in to purchase chicken drumettes (1/26/2019) and the guy serving me started to pick them out of the chicken parts but soon got tired of that and just started grabbing hand full of parts which included the wings. The problem with that was that he was using his bare hands for which I think is particularly bad when handling poultry. He then proceeded to check me out handling money and then returned to take care of other customers. I did not see him wash his hands and I found this ironic since they have a web page stating how they are concerned about food safety. I am angry with myself for not speaking up at the time and will probably just throw the chicken away despite the fact that I will also be more angry with myself for wasting money. I definitely will not be returning to that store. read more

Prices aren't anything great Salad was edible I'm a pinch but def not homemade like they say Burgers were frozen.. after asking if they were fresh in the case and was assured they were... ( I guess frozen fresh)Get home and take them out and they are frozen:-( Steak was kinda expensive and not as tasty or tender as wegmans .. $14.99 a lb for my strip and I get them out of wegmans fresh meat case for 8.99 a lb when buying 4 at a time ! Great prices, very clean, and superb customer service. I've been patronizing Skips for 7 years and think it's a great place. I like the lamb lollipops, marinated chicken, any of the sausages, boneless pork chops, beef tenderloin, Angus burgers, flank steak, strip steak, meatball mix, their prepared meatballs, the Boar's Head deli meats, the broccoli salad, and the fresh deli rolls. The pricing is great. We do a big family vacation in OBX and always pre order from Skips and they freeze everything and pack it so we can take it on our trip. read more

Skips is the bees knees man!!! One of the few places with boars head! I don't care what anyone says..ive tried them all and NOTHING beats boars head. The staff is always friendly, offer samples sometimes. My kid loves to put a dollar in the beer fund mug so they ring the bell and yell yee haw! Home made sausages are slamin! I just stopped at Skip's meat market this weekend and thought I'd try out their medium hot Italian sausages. I believe they called him 3XXX. They are delicious. The staff in the shop are just lovely and friendly. I signed up on their email list as they said they were going to be getting elk in and I thought it would be fun to try an elk steak. Skip's has a very nice selection of meats and assorted side preparations plus, they are very cost-effective. I feel quite sure that I'll be going back. read more

We recently discovered Skips and it is the only place we now shop for meat. Sure it requires and extra stop to complete your grocery list but it is worth your time. The meat has so much more flavor than the big grocery stores. We buy in bulk and freeze the extra. It always defrosts nicely. The chicken is never rubbery or tough and the grind on the ground beef gives it a texture that makes it ideal for spaghetti sauce, burgers or tacos. Plus I like supporting a local business. Try it once, what have you got to loose, and you'll become a fan. A word about supporting local businesses. Get to know the people who work at them. Introduce yourself and ask them how they are. Take a few minutes out of your day and you'll be rewarded every time. Tell them what you are looking for and let them guide you with their expertise. If you want a transactional experience shop the chains. If you want to have a better experience get your face out of your phone and show some respect for retail workers. read more

I had to add a review after seeing the only other one to date. I love skips. The prices are great especially compared to the supermarket an quality of meat is great as well - try the chicken sausage! Their package deals are awesome. Service is fast and friendly and its a fun atmosphere.I only wish I lived closer and they would open on Sundays. read more

Purchased chicken breast for the past two weeks now and they cut like rubber and taste last like Perdue or any other large factory meat. Shared this with a young female employee after the first time it happen and she got all bitchy at me. I so wanted this place to be higher quality than Wegman's, because, well, I can't stand Wegman's, ironically because it's always so crowded. The truth of the matter, sadly, is that Wegman's meat is just as good or better, cheaper, and more varied, with the exception of sausage, which Skip's has many more varieties of. That said, it's not sausage for throwing on the Weber and walking away; it's just too hot and their sausages, maybe because of the way they are made, easily dry out on the outdoor grill. If you want to do them on the grill, you have to babysit them, even on low setting. However, if you cook them indoors, they are delicious. I had the Mexican Chorizo sausage and it was superb, and that's coming from a sausage connoisseur. One exception to their exceptional sausages is the breakfast sausage, which was just way too salty, even for sausage. In addition, it wasn't really that tasty. I tried their boneless/skinless chicken breast, which, at 3.99 a pound, is more than twice Wegman's price, but it was not twice as good, maybe just a little fresher (possibly because I was so hoping it would be better somehow) but not worth the difference in price. In fairness, if you can catch it on special at 2.79, that's probably not a bad deal. Sadly I saw it at one visit at that price, but by the time I returned, the sale had ended. They have a limited selection of Amazing Grains Bread. Great bakery, wonderful bread, but open, like Skip's, mostly when us good folk are trying to work and earn the money to afford to satisfy our foodie cravings. Skip's gives the chance to grab some of these baked goodies when it's not possible to get to the bakery. The service here was very friendly, but when it's busy, they get pressured and if, like me, you're not sure what you want from their vast sausage collection, their tolerance for your ambivalence is minimal. If you want to browse, don't come when you have to take a number. The owner was nice, there was a variety of non-meat items to grab, the prices were nothing to write home about. I love to support local small businesses whenever I can, because I don't want the Wegman's/Tops monolith to completely squeeze out variety, but that only goes so far. If I get tasty chicken from Wegman's for 1.89 a pound and yours in 90 cents a pound more, I guess my commitment to small business only stretches to about a dollar pound for boneless/skinless. That's my bad, not Skip's. I'll drop in occasionally if I am in the area, but Danny still gets most of my meat money. read more

Well it used to be very good, however last Christmas I purchased a prime rib roast. It was mostly fat so a lot went to waste. They have a good variety of sausages such as chicken and artichoke. read more

My wife and I have been buying most, if not all, of our meats at Skip's for the past 3 or more years. For the past two years, we have purchased a 15 pound boneless (and pre-seasoned) prime rib for Christmas dinner - SUPERB! And the individually bacon wrapped pork tenderloins have been the hit of many a gathering at our home. We will continue to shop at Skip's, for their meats are exceptional. read more
