I ordered delivery so I cannot attest to the ambiance. I was craving a fish fry...a proper New England fish fry and not fish with bones in it or whiting or whatever it is the natives eat. Skrimp Shack has fried haddock. It's not in a bun and doesn't come with macaroni salad but it will do. The fries were really good. Those were fish fry joint kinda fries. Haddock was good too. The shrimp were quite good as well--they tasted fresh and not frozen. I'm happy. The only stinker is the packets of cocktail and tartar....they can't make that in house??? Oh well. read more

Decided to take our day date to Shrimp Shack today and boy did they come through!! I had the shack pack with spicy catfish + shrimp and my fiancé had their catfish sandwich. When we first came in it was empty so we knew we beat the lunch crowd. We took our time ordering with the young lady running the register(sorry I didn't catch your name. She recommended the shack pack to me and I couldn't resist!! My stomach was ready for some good food. Keep in mind this was all under $35 At the end we were packing up ready to leave and I believe the owner came up to us and asked us how we enjoyed ourselves. Normally this place is pretty good. Service was so so. They just aren't that friendly. My friend that i was with had a question and the cashier didn't know, so she asked the cook, he didn't know, so he attempted to ask the manager and he was so rude to his employee because he was on the phone. In my opinion, he did the right thing by trying to get the managers attention but for the manager to get so snappy with him in front of us, the customers, that was not okay. It was actually extremely rude. There wasn't a what can i fix for you or answer for you or even a thank you for your patience. It was a "what's the problem?!" FROM THE MANAGER!!! Overall, this place is bomb. I ordered the shrimp/catfish dinner and the shrimp were amazing. I could have just ordered shrimp and been complete satisfied. The "catfish" was not what I'm used to. It was okay but it tasted like whitening fish...I'm not sure if it was a order error or if they actually use whitening fish as catfish (some restaurants do). I didn't care for the fries so I would order shrimp and maybe hush puppies next time. We also tried the crab cake. The crab cake was amazing BUT it was about 8 bucks for just one. I thought that it was a bit pricey considering the size of the crab cake. I wouldn't order it again but again, it was really good. My boyfriend ordered two shrimp (grilled/mild) tacos and he scarfed them down as if it was his last meal so I'll assume that they were really food. I'm excited about this place. I had a craving for some seafood and they took care of that. They're in a decent location. Parking can be challenging during peak hours. The interior is nice and clean. I appreciate that the place isn't obnoxiously decorated in beach decor. There is some, but is sparingly and done right. The food looks as good as it tastes. I love they have pictures of their sandwiches up on the wall so you can see what they offer and what to expect. Nice accountability! As for the food, I ordered the Mahi Sandwich and it was huge! My wife got the Shrimp Po Boy, any my son had a chicken sandwich. Everything was delicious and plentiful! The only negative was the table was sticky which was a focal point for my wife. This place has been recommended to us by everyone . I got the fish sandwich minus the bun and wow the amount t of fish I got . For the price it's definitely a great value . My son and husband went with the shrimp baskets. They were completed reeled in . Both enjoyed their baskets . I did think the size of my sandwich combo was great I felt the fried fish lacked some flavor . Perhaps they need to use a little more seasoning in the batter . While the food was very good, the women in this establishment are beyond rude. I've never seen such horrible customer service in my life. The minute we walked in the door we were greeted with glares, eye rolls, and when my husband very politely asked if they had any ketchup, one of the ladies replied "I guess". A kind gentleman behind the counter was nice and got my husband some ketchup. He also was the only one to greet us warmly with a "how're y'all doing?" as we entered the door. Awesome place!!! Have been twice already and both times I got great food and great customer service. I have already been to the Newport News location on the regular so now that I have one close it's awesome. I got the fish and shrimp basket(whiting). Fish was moist ant fried to perfection, shrimp was nice and juicy too. The poboy sauce is to DIE FOR!! I would put that on everything if I could. This is our favorite place for a delicious fish meal in Colonial Heights. Great food, service, and friendly atmosphere. A lot of food for the money. We get the fish grilled, and sometimes fried. Went in with my family and ordered food and was told 10-15 minutes. We came in right before lunch rush. The lunch rush came in while we were waiting. We noticed that everyone was getting their food. We calmly waited for 30 minutes. Sister went up to asked where our order was. And low and behold our food was sitting in Carry out for door dash, we were given back our refund in cash, customer service wise the staff knew we were sitting there and never once asked what we were waiting for. Oh my Goodness, I am at the Skrimp Shack, Colonial Heights for the second time today. 20 minutes going, 20 minute wait, 20 minutes home only to travel back with my 2 fish sandwiches that tasted of burnt oil. Brandon the "manager" , worse ever, said where's the rest of the sandwich?! Of course some was missing. I ate until I could no longer tolerate the taste, leaving an entire half plus fish on the side. Good seafood, meh service. I went to the new CH location for lunch and felt that the food was good. I had a shrimp Po Boy with spicy sauce (which was excellent) and my wife had shrimp tacos, which she enjoyed. My hang up was the long wait for our meals to come. I should qualify the fact that they recently opened and as with any new restaurant, there's going to be bigger crowds and some kinks to work out. I figure there's a full star difference once they get into their groove. If not for the horribly long wait (30 minutes) for our lunch - I would have probably given 4 stars. I also felt lunch was pricier ($28) than I would expected. Seemed more like an inexpensive sit down dinner price. Having said all of that - I can see coming back here for a meal. You get a lot of food . The food is usually very good. People working there are nice and it's usually clean.

They gave us plenty of food and it was quite good! My daughter used to work in a seafood restaurant and she said the fish was excellent.

I ordered the shrimp PoBoy with stuffed crabmeat and scallops. Both taste great and well worth the money.
