The Branford salon was in a great location. The eclectic and nostalgic decor was very cool. I went to see the owner, Jason because I'm tryjng to embrace my grey hair and wanted a new look. As an out of towner concerned about my hair for my stepdaughter's upcoming wedding, my daughter was familiar with Skull & Combs in Norwalk, Ct in the SoNo Mall. I took a chance a few days before my appointment and was lucky to speak with Clover on the phone. She is a Wella colorist/stylist with 18 years experience and when l expressed my concerns and desires she luckily had time to accommodate me. The day of my appointment she analyzed my hair and addressed my concerns and she delivered! She did a Wella color and Wella smoothing system that worked out very well! She was more than happy to tweak or address any of my concerns! The vibe of the salon was cool, laid back with fun people including Kelsey one of the stylists, Adam who cut my husband's hair and the receptionist/salon assistant who ended up blow drying my hair. Highly recommend the salon, my other daughter may try them and if l am in the area and need a salon service l would definitely come back! read more

Want to give 1 star, but reserve that for places that are rude, talentless & overpriced...this place definitely overpriced & talentless, not truly rude though. I called & asked if they had a stylist that could do a wolf cut on my 11 yr old, I was assured that "Clover" was a master at it but it'd be $90 eventhough my daughter was still a kid. I believed them & desperately agreed to pay such a high price, wanting my daughter to get the modern, edgy cut she desired. We arrived & received very little greeting, being told to wait on a couch in the center of the salon. We waited & waited as Clover chatted up the man she was cutting. Finally we were seen by her (20mins later)....she looked at our 3 photos & we discussed briefly the "cowlick" etc. We expressed my daughter's hatred for "bob" styles & thought Clover understood. She chopped away at my girl, whilst complaining about ex-husband issues and her bulldog (who was beside her the whole while!). By the time she finished, it was the worst mess I'd ever seen my daughter's hair EVER! It looked like a "bob" cut by someone on Crack AND she did the bangs so horribly, my beautiful girl looked bald in the front middle where the "cowlick" was! I didn't want to stress my daughter further, so I kindly paid the $90 plus 10% tip and we left....dashing for the ladies room in Nordstrom next door to try to fix it! I went in hoping to find kindred spirits who got alternative looks & left feeling robbed & regretful. Never go there if you are a female. One more thing, it resembled a barber shop so MAYBE they know how to do men, but if you have long hair, avoid Clover like the plague! read more
