Staying at this end of the beach was an adventure in local bars. After walking all the way down to…read morethe end of the silverstrand beach, we tackled the mounds of sand to reach the street and this hidden gem. We were there a bit early so we needed to wait 15 or so minutes for it to open per the time listed here on Yelp. We hung out on the sidewalk counting the seconds until noon, only to be disappointed as we walked by and saw a sign in the door that said 1pm. We continued on our way and went to another local bar only to return hours later via car because I had had my exercise for the day. We got lucky in finding a parking spot because this is a small area, so cross your fingers. We found 2 seats at the bar and marvelled at the selection of microbrews. For a Saturday afternoon, the place slowly filled up with locals as everyone watched the basketball finals on the tvs. Bartender was very welcoming as were the locals we chatted with. I'm not much of a beer drinker, but did find something to drink. My partner was in heaven sampling and trying new brews. Would love to return later in the evening to see how this place fills up and to enjoy more of the locals and what it would be like living in this hidden community. So shhhh! Don't tell anyone about this gem.

And then there's the setting--tucked beneath a historic relic, a basement bar built into the bones of old Americana. The building dates back to the early 1900s, echoing with a past that deserves to be honored, not phoned in. That's exactly why I expected more from the cocktails. A place with this much atmosphere shouldn't fall flat when it comes to what's in the glass. It's a mismatch--a beautiful stage, but a script that doesn't quite rise to meet it.

Also, know that they do not allow ANY outside drinks, even though there are no signs or warnings posted outside the building. My friend brought water in, and a bartender instantly came and took it from her hand. They told her that no drinks were allowed and they'd have to throw it away. My friend asked if she could put it in her car, and they said she wouldn't be allowed back in. I understand not allowing outside drinks, but there were no signs highlighting the rule, and threatening to ban someone for simply asking if she could put the drink away is too excessive. Pretty disappointing night and I'd suggest finding a different spot if you care about cleanliness and being treated respectfully.

They felt bad so they brought part of our order early, then said it would be another 6 minutes. It was more than 10. The server felt bad and halved out bill - but still. Then we saw the 3.5% added tax the Harbor District adds to the bill!!! WHAT?!?!? Needless to say, we won't be going back to Mrs. Olsen's and won't be eating at any restaurants in the Harbor District.
