What a workout! Had an amazing time here for my friends bday. The teacher was welcoming, went at a good pace, the music was great and those ropes are hella strong. LOL. The studio was also clean and well sanitized.

Intrigued and anxious to visit Sky Barre Beltline location after participating in a sampler class at sister institution Polelateaz. Aaliyah aka Sky Gazelle led the sampler and was interested in taking classes at the new location. After attending last Saturday's Open House, which had another fave Slutty Vegan on site, I signed up for a few classes. Sky Foundation & Sky Kandy with Erin. She was extremely attentive and made sure we were performing properly. She also offered modifications for beginners and those with any restrictions. Enrolled in Water & Earth, Sky Foundation and Sky Kandy with Aaliyah - yes, apparently I have a high tolerance for pain. Lol. Seriously, classes were intense but definitely manageable. The Water & Earth class included the rower. Normally not my fave apparatus, but Aaliyah made it competitive as far as challenging ourselves and also had some partnering exercises that were fun. Aaliyah is highly engaged and made sure form was not compromised, but with a caring demeanor. Very grateful for the opportunity to learn more about aerial classes, since I had committed to revamping my dormant workout schedule. A reaffirmation of setting intentions, and not to be confused with "resolutions". Truly enjoyed the offerings and look forward to adding these exercises to my fitness regiment.

The rude lady talking about promotions. While we had "free time"

Was my first time trying this my friend invited me she been here multiple times before I was visiting out of town and soon as I walked in I was 10 mins Late and this old lady was just so rude started talking loud and talking over the other women behind the desk both talking to me at once .... And I had just walked in... at the end the same old lady when we had like 13 mins left to take pictures or videos she gets in front of the camera at 6:47 talking about promotions like lady don't do that wait until everything is done to promote stuff and then she made us clean up early like it was just a bad experience.. it was a beginners class so people go here to have fun and take funny/cute pictures videos and she didn't let us do that .....

I can't say enough good things about Sky Gym. The entire staff there is super welcoming, nice,…read moreaccommodating, friendly, talented, and passionate. It's a great, clean facility with really high ceilings, and SHOWERS! Plus, they have *lots* of open practice opportunities, which is really nice. If you go and it's difficult or challenging, it's supposed to be! It's a full-body strength workout (that can even get into cardio territory sometimes if you're on the apparatus long enough). I couldn't do *anything* in my first few classes, but after maybe a couple of months, I could do enough to do a very small "performance." Just keep at it. You'll be surprised how quickly you build strength if you commit to at least once a week. Most important, though: have fun. The instructors will do their best to make sure that's happening!

What I like is their mind body app that makes viewing and booking effortless. Membership prices are very affordable and great combinations of types of aerial excercise equipments (eg sling) The downside for me is that the first instructor courses were disorganized and not many get to try everything. felt rushed to briefly do every single one. I come in for my 3rd class and still disorganized despite having only 3 students. All in which have different levels. Level 1 sling class even then is too advanced for me. The instructor just dove right in but i think he forgets that when it comes to students like myself, I have never ever activated or used any muscle movement similar to what they are doing. He said to me you're just overthinking it. Yet the movement isn't understood by me. Even watching, I can't connect my many different movements "just" to do a simple flip into the sling and then have the fabric lay on my pelvis bones, balance and flip legs over. I'm sure this isn't the only way to teach...and I'm gonna look for a place that offers more structured and fluid sessions. Maybe start off with workout routines on The sling then just a "just move your body into any shape" or "just tuck your knees in and JUST bend your arms" then "voila". I won't be paying a drop in cost or even a membership just to hang or have such chaotic class. One minute this and that yet no real idea what those moves are even called. I left 20 minutes early as most moves were really too advanced for me. All I can do I stand in the sling. I'll be buying my own sling and watching videos online it's no different because all sky gym offers is this "watch" and "learn". You grab your own support pad.. They might help "lift you" into position but doesn't help understand how to do It yourself.. Also they do not really look at me when teaching but everyone else. Not really included till I speak up. Maybe it's just my instructor. They should look and make eye contact to EVERY STUDENT. not just one.

I'm sure the fitness-conscious have been aware of the non-traditional work-out industry for a while…read morenow--the aim is to get people into an activity rather than simple weightlifting or working on machines. Yoga, tai chi, rock climbing--all of these activities involve a certain body awareness and require a basic level of core strength and fitness, and they're usually fun enough so you're never really thinking about sets and reps and muscle groups. Last night, I encountered one the toughest but most-enjoyable workouts when I went to the Circus Arts Institute. Located in a loft complex near Dekalb Ave, I joined a number of students (I was one amongst four beginner students, in particular) for a 90-minute session consisting of a pretty strenuous warm-up and cool-down as well as activities including tightrope walking, rope climbing, and trapeze. I would find myself both wired and tired after the session, the excitement and fun of what we did clashing with the unexpected amount of exertion required. Everyone here is all smiles and encouraging, eager to see you succeed in anything that you might try.

I'd been thinking about taking aerial lessons for three or four years, maybe longer - since before…read moreI got into burlesque. So, yeah, the circus classes aren't necessarily related to my tassel and glitter endeavors. (Maybe it was sparked by Yvette calling me Cirque de Sadie and suggesting it should be my stage name.) Whatever. Every few months, we'd be at an event and there'd be girls up on a trapeze or in the, um, circle-thing. "Freakin' amazing!" I would say to myself. "I can totally do that." I looked into it, and bookmarked the Circus Arts Institute web site. Then another year passed, until a few of us were talking about pole dance classes. I'd like to give that a try, too, but first I had to put up and give the trapeze a go. I enrolled in May for a 12-week session. Carrie Heller, who runs - and lives in - the Institute, is really fascinating. She encourages everyone to do cardio outside of class; she talks about diet and nutrition; she has a degree in physiology, I think, as well. In the first class, I climbed the Spanish Web (the rope), got up on the trapeze, and attempted walking the tight wire and juggling. Not so good with the juggling. Next class, I tried rings and loved it... got totally hooked. For my birthday this year, Bryant got our friends to contribute to a gift certificate for a second session. Some of them came to the last night of the first session, which was a sort of show-off day. I did a rings routine; nothing too hard, but it certainly demonstrated what I had learned over the first couple of months. Now, my second session is halfway complete. I'm going to have to re-allocate some funding to continue with it. Circus/aerial training is the crack - highly recommended crack.

It began at 7pm and the class was 1 hour long. The building is a bit hidden from the main road but is off of Peachtree Industrial Blvd in Suwanee. Maggie was absolutely phenomenal. I had to speak to her on the phone because I had some trouble signing up for the class and she helped me so much and was so patient. She greeted us when we came in and made me feel so comfortable. The class had 4 people. There were 2 silks with mats set up in the center of the room. (Maggie mentioned that she recently ordered 2 more mats so she can have 2 more silks set up). The room was pretty big but because there were 4 of us, it was intimate and not as intimidating. Because it's a beginners class, there needs to be a lot of help from Maggie to show and spot, so I can imagine- the smaller the class the better ! We started off warming up with various stretches. I loved how quickly she moved from one stretch to another. It was a really good warm up. Haha. I broke a sweat from that alone. Then, we paired up on the mat and Maggie showed us one move/pose and we'd try. We were able to try a lot of different poses. Overall, it was a GREAT workout from head to toe. The arms, core, glutes, legs. I usually don't get sore until 2 days after working out but I'm already feeling it as I walked out of the class. Very good experience and workout!
