Took a couple of drop-in classes before committing to a series class. All the instructors are top notch! In particular, the pole instructor was ahhhmazing! We learned new moves and even had time to learn a choreographic dance that was super fun. I got to try the aerial silks, hammock and lyra. The Lyra was my favorite! I'm recently into aerial fitness so I found this place and had a intro to aerial session. The experience was nice, we had a group of 3 students in total and tried 3 kinds of aerial apparatus, hammock, silk and Lyra. So far I like the silk the best. The teacher Erica was great! She introduced the skills in details and volunteered to help us take posing photos. The only complaint was that three of us had to share two sets of apparatus, but everything else was pretty good. read more

Love, Love, Love Sky Candy! I had always wanted to try aerials and decided to give Sky Candy a try. I started with an intro "drop in" class to get an idea of what I was getting myself into and to make sure the old body could handle it. After my initial class I decided to sign up for the Intro to Trapeze series. It is hard to explain how so much hard work can be so much fun, but it really can be. I know I will never be a trapeze artist, but I have managed to try and learn something new, work muscles like never before, have fun and have a even more profound respect for those that practice or perform this craft. The facility is top notch, clean, accessible, safety conscious, with a wide array of apparatus. The instructors are knowledgeable, talented, fun, upbeat and amazing athletes and artists. I have wanted to try out Sky Candy after I knew it existed probably about a year or two ago. However, due to life and such, it really never worked out until this weekend. Sky Candy was offering $10 intro classes. Score! The class consisted of two instructors with about 10-12 newbies like myself. The two instructors would demo and explain each thing we were going to do. We started off with the trapeze which was my favorite. It was fairly low to the ground and a mat to fall on if needed. Second, we all tried out the Lyra. A Lyra is a hula hoop like structure held up vertically with a cord from the ceiling. Next, we tried out the Silks. The Silks are what you see a lot of Cirque du Soleil shows. I had always been fascinated with them after seeing many shows out in Vegas. The Silks are super strong and supportive. Last we tried the hammock which is where the silks are tied together and you can flip over where your body over the knot while on your back. I believe anyone who loves trying new things should try this class out. I do think if you have some arm strength and are a little flexible you will have a slight advantage over some. However, I saw people of all shapes, sizes, and physical in shape or out of shape take this class with no problem. They offer classes online and have two locations. The one on Calles is their main location. They have all different types of class options but if you are new they recommend you take an intro series. I plan to take an intro series in the future when my scheule matches. read more

I started beginner silks (5 series) class and as. first timer, I loved it! Coach Lauren is so friendly, bubbly and attentive. The studio is clean, everyone I interacted with was really nice. There was no feelings of judgement and the atmosphere is light and airy. Taking a class and being a beginner, trying something new - can be intimidating however the friendly -upbeat atmosphere really makes you forget about the nerves that come with trying something new. I had a great time at Sky Candy! I signed up for the Intro to Aerials class. It was just me, another student, and the instructor (Erica). It was my first time doing anything related to aerials so I was a bit nervous in the beginning. However, Erica did an amazing job at walking us through the steps of getting on each apparatus. She would demonstrate first, and then talk through the steps as you try out the move. The class was 1 hr and 15 min and we got to try the trapeze, silk, and the hoop. We tried at least 2-3 moves on each apparatus. We were even allowed to have our pictures taken so it made for some really cool shots! I had a really fun time and am glad I took this class. Definitely an experience and would recommend to any beginner who is not afraid to try something different! read more

Just to give you a little background about me, I'm currently on a weightloss journey and recently lost 83lbs. As part of my journey, I am trying new things especially things that are out of my comfort zone. This was definitely one of those things. I was super pumped and nervous at the same time. At the time that I attended the class, I was 5'2" and weighed 192lbs, so still being overweight I knew it would be a challenge for me. I did notice that I was the largest person in the class and at first felt like I wouldn't be able to achieve anything that the other people could do. Boy was I wrong! Even Marisa was so encouraging and supportive. I never once felt out of place or shamed of my body! I was practically able to do almost all of the task that were given! There was a real challenging one that I couldn't do at the time but will be back soon to crush that task! I've actually never seen the inside of Sky Candy except for photos online, but I have a lot of experience with their staff. My daughter takes private aerial silk and aerial rig lessons here. If she could go everyday, she would. I am looking forward to a post-Covid time when she can be in classes with more kids, but for now we're very happy with doing private lessons. The staff here is very knowledgeable, friendly, communicative and responsive. It is very clear what their COVID safety measures are, and I feel very safe with them. It took me a few visits to get fully comfortable doing something out of the norm, but this company really does want diversity. I love the facility itself. I enjoy coming to Sky Candy as fun way to get to get my work out on. The staff is very helpful, knowledgeable and friendly. It can be intimidating to go to a place like this as a beginner but I felt very comfortable and welcomed. I wish parking wasn't such a pain, buuut there's really nothing they can do to change that. Just plan on arriving early during certain times of the day so you are not late to class circling around and around fighting other cars for the next available spot. I went here with my girlfriends during my bachelorette party. As you walk into the space, there is an open area where experienced patrons can practice/ display their skills. Everyone in my group was in awe. It also scared the heck out of us. It was my impression that we would be in a room with multiple silk stations, and that we were expected to follow along with the instructor. Boy was I wrong. Our two instructors put us at ease. They set the tone as a care free, fun experience. For reference, I had a group of 8 girls. We started off with a couple of warm ups (inch worms, jumping jacks, etc). There were 2 stations to accommodate everyone in the group. They gave hands on instruction to guide us through our moves. We started off using the ring, then bar and then the silks. They give special attention to the bride, and allowed many photo opportunities. 100% recommend. Not only are the staff awesome, the experience is so much fun. My friend and I took an Intro to Aerials class with Lauren ($30 for 1 hour 15 minutes) and it was so much fun! You actually spend most of the class watching the instructor demonstrate and then waiting for your turn to get on the apparatus. The apparatuses we got to try were trapeze, silk, hammock, and lyra (we almost didn't have enough time to do the lyra because we started 5 minutes late, but decided to do that instead of stretching at the end). The moves look pretty impressive/hard but Lauren helped us all do everything successfully! During class there is time for you to snap a quick picture/video each time you get on an apparatus. I really appreciated the small class size (we had 5 people total, I think the max is 6 people?). I would definitely recommend wearing leggings and socks (especially if your feet get sweaty). The space was easy to find and there was plenty of parking. The facilities are really nice. read more

This place was really cool! We came for one of my daughter's friends birthday. The kids had a great experience learning from the instructors. The instructors were very caring and patient with the children. They all had glowing smiles on their faces. They all had safety briefings on each acrobat they tried. The facility itself is in some old warehouse area. There is a pub close by that make their own brew. Aerials was a very scary thing for me to think about, so I made myself try it. I'm so glad I did. It's super fun, super challenging, and a super workout! I've made so much progress on my strength and fitness in ways I didn't even know I could. I remember thinking I would never be able to do some of the things I saw people doing, and now I can with ease! The level classes are a little different that other studios I've been to. They have a very clear outline of what each level teaches and expectations of students before moving up. The sizes for the classes I take are usually 4-6 people, so a very manageable size. I've been taking classes here on and off for 4 years, and I love this place. The instructors are top notch and always give me very specific corrections. All the classes have a great warm up and focus on conditioning, so they always make me much stronger over the course of six weeks. They also have a knack for figuring out what part of the movement is giving me trouble and providing an exercise that targets whatever muscle is failing, giving me the tools I need to progress quickly. I love to care and attention you get in each class. They are small classes to make sure you get plenty of attention to your form, and I always feel incredibly safe with their equipment. Their studio is great, with really high ceilings, and they are currently planning a move to a much bigger and even nicer space so I can't wait to see how that looks! read more

I am crazy in love with aerials. As I spun around, bent backwards on a large metal cube during my second class at Sky Candy, I wondered aloud why anyone would choose to exercise in a normal gym. Unless maybe they're scared of heights. It's only fair to admit that, as the reigning duchess of Brass Ovaries (still waiting on my crown), I am not altogether new to this form of fitness. I've hung on a few hoops in my time. But I still have a long, long ways to go in flexibility and coordination, so this shouldn't discourage any aerial virgins from trying it out. So far, I've taken an Intro to Aerials class and a Mixed Aerials 1 class. Both my instructors (Winnie and Joanna) were incredibly patient and sweet. Joanna was downright goofy at times, which gave the class a certain gaiety that is unusual when you're doing things that can be, well, painful. So far, I've tried out their static trapeze, lyra, rope (ouch), and aerial cube. My entire body is sore, but I barely notice in my sheer joy to be upside down, spinning, or otherwise having fun (what?) while exercising. I also love that the classes are 90 minutes long, which gives six people plenty of time on the apparatuses. I do have a few suggestions for improvement, but I can't complain much because both experiences have been such a joy. Still, there are no mirrors in the studio, and this would be a huge help for perfecting my body alignment. There are generally about three classes going on at the same time, which can make it a bit difficult to hear in a place that already has super high ceilings, but I really love watching the pole dancers and other crazy awesome bendy people do their thing while I'm stretching. If you're curious about circus arts, go to Sky Candy right now and try it out. Just don't take my spot in the Mixed Silks class. read more

I took an aerial intro class at Sky Candy and was incredibly impressed on how well our instructor taught our group so much in an hour! They emphasize safety and proper techniques that prevent injury. We had a fun warm up getting our muscles prepped. We used the Hammock and Lyra to learn some basic moves that we were later able to put together. They also have silks, trapeze and pole. This is such a fun activity to do with friends! And they are conveniently located walking distance of some awesome places to grab brunch, happy hour or dinner afterwards. I've been taking trapeze lessons and conditioning classes at SkyCandy for 1.5 years. The front desk staff are the best - always friendly and helpful. Heidi remembered my name after one of my first visits and gives me a "Hello Kelly" every time I check in. I was new to Austin when I started here and this was such a nice touch. The lessons can be tough but the instructors start you slow and really help you build strength and confidence (I had neither). There is a big emphasis on safety, which I appreciate. Even in the upper levels, they really meet you where you are and make modifications where needed. I started at age 39 and really feared that I was too old to begin circus (I wasn't). This is a good facility with a lot of highly talented performers. That being said, not every performer is meant to teach. Most of the instructors were good, encouraging and patient. Unfortunately, the silks instructor who is also a founding member of the organization is not one of the favorable type of teachers I just described. I've been able to experience a lot of great classes here like lyra, trapeze, and pole, but the silks instructor has made me pursue another facility as is true with many people I know personally.
