This is a great high end nursery. The staff are knowledgeable. They have cute gifts. I like a discount section of plants that are often perfectly fine. I also like their cafe. It's a fun place to stroll around. read more

I went to Sky today to take advantage of the buy three- get one free for soil amenders. I thought my Rav 4 would easily be able to hold the 12 bags of 3 cu yds of material. Gabe, who was loading my car, was very patient with me as I had to move a child's carseat to the passenger front area. The 12 bags just barely fit inside, and I appreciated Gabe's positive attitude and clever solutions to my space problem. read more

Bought some Momotaro tomato plants last spring and they weren't as advertised. Tasteless and mushy. A big waste of time to grow. So I called Sky and was connected with the plant buyer who was totally uninterested in my story. She made no effort to offer a refund. Their customer service was a big disappointment. I'll try Swanson's nursery next year. read more

This nursery is gorgeous. The outside decoration is pretty nice where you walk to the front of the store and see giant light decorations that are strung from the ceiling. When you walk into the store, people are really helpful. We were looking to purchase a maple tree and asked where it was. The front cashier person paged a guy to ask if they had any in stock. The one critique I had was that the guy that she paged just verbally described to us the general location of the maple tree. It might have been nice if he walked us over since the store is pretty gigantic and it was dark outside in the outdoor patio area. I know he is busy but for first time shoppers, it can be a bit confusing. Anyways, we found the maple trees on our own but we still had more questions. Unfortunately, the guy who is suppose to be manning the outside station was gone (apparently the same guy who had helped us before). We went inside to ask if someone could help us. They referred us to the same guy to help us. I wish he had stuck around initially so then there would be less back and forth. Anyways, the second time he came over, he was really helpful. He shared with us a plethora of information about maple trees. In fact, he was really honest about the growth process of the tree and told us that it probably couldn't grow in more arid environments. I really appreciated his honesty and taking the time to share his knowledge. He could have easily gave us bad information just for the purpose of selling more tree but he didn't. This honesty/directness is very rare when it comes to most retail stores. The store is wonderful set up where things aren't too costly. I thought all the items were pretty fairly priced. The best part of it all was that they offered free cookies and hot apple cider. That was a really nice touch for the customers standing outside in the cold. All in all, it was a lovely store. I'd definitely come back to buy more flowers/trees. read more

Me - "Excuse me can you tell me where the evergreen Huckleberry plants are?" Staff - "Yes They are in the Northwest Native Plants section in the east part of the yard" ( Points in general direction, no one else around on a quiet Tuesday afternoon ) I walk over to the section but they aren't there. I find someone else. Me - "Excuse me can you tell me where the evergreen Huckleberry plants are?" Staff - "I don't know. I really don't work in this area" Me - "Is there someone that knows?" Staff- (Gets on radio) Voice on radio - "We don't have any in stock maybe in a day or two" The staff was very nice but not very helpful. Sky is MUCH bigger now but It would be nice to feel like the staff wants to help you out rather then point ( or walk you over to) areas where plants don't exist, especially when there isn't anyone else around. These interaction really turned me off of Sky. They have a great selection and comparable prices but the service is a bit lackluster. Maybe that is why they don't charge as much as Swansons. read more

This is by far my favorite nursery. Even after moving up to Everett, I'll make the drive to pick up veggie starts, soil, and compost for my raised beds. The staff is helpful and plentiful on weekends. Over my visits, I've dominated several staff members' time as they helped me decide on soil and plants and pest deterrents for my new garden--they've been nothing but gracious and always happy to help (not to mention knowledgeable!). The lines aren't usually that long because someone is always ready to open a new register if needed. The shopping area is spacious and relaxing. I loved Sky Nursery before the expansion and, while it seemed too big at first, the new store is awesome. The selection is great and they seem to have an emphasis on organic/natural products. I can (and do) spend hours here trolling around looking at...everything. The coffee stand adds to the "stay all day" atmosphere. Tip: Every month they post a new $5 off of $25 coupon on their website--bonus! read more

I'm not a very avid gardener, so I can't make many distinctions between garden stores. I mean, I know that Swanson's is retardedly expensive, and the one in Magnolia doesn't have a great selection, but I do know customer service, and Sky's has effing GREAT customer service. I went into the houseplants section and looked around helplessly for a couple of seconds before I was approached by a very sweet saleslady who, when I told her "I need something unkillable," just giggled and steered me towards a couple of super cute plants that were reasonably priced and have since proved tough as nails. read more

Wow. This place is amaaaaaah-zing. They have just about everything! Came to look at the water feature items for some ideas. While pretty pricey, I couldn't get past the overall appearance and size of Sky. I was mezmorized. They even have weekend workshops for kids, which I thought was so cute. Eventhough I didn't buy anything, when I'm ready to tackle the back yard I will venture back and probably spend hours getting lost around this place! And hopefully the staff knows a thing or 2 cuz I sure the heck don't =D read more

Always on the lookout for new plants and flowers and, yes, even trees, for our yard, we found our way to Sky Nursery one recent weekend day. When we lived in North Seattle, we went here quite often. But, we lived in an apartment then, so it was mostly just window-shopping. Now. we have a home with a yard and everything. But, it is in the south end of town. We don't make it to Sky too often, but are always happy when we do. They have expanded so much in the past few years, they now have so much more to explore and enjoy. (It did not hurt that we were there on a beautiful, sunny, spring day.) The staff here are helpful and knowledgeable. The selection is amazing. The prices are in-line with what you'd pay at other nurseries offering plants (and flowers and trees) of similar quality. My husband commented that we need to come here more often. He'll not have to twist my arm too much on this one. (And, really, it is a pretty straight shot off I-5, so even if coming from another end of town, it is easy to reach.) Looking forward to a return visit soon.. read more

I love this store. They had everything I was looking for and some things I didn't know I was looking for. The guys who work in Roadside Pick Up were great and very helpful - the cashiers not so much. That's why I only gave 4 stars. read more

This place is amazing. I got my Christmas tree there and that's when I first noted how cute it was. So when my friend asked me if I knew where to get plants there I knew where I wanted to go. We went into the home garden area we were initially overwhelmed but Kate took care of us. She knew all the plants, which ones were poisonous to cats, and made sure to ask us what kind of lighting the area we were going to be putting plants had so that they wouldn't die on us. read more

Pricey, but quality. We love going to sky if for no other reason than to look around and get inspired. They often have plants that are not available anywhere else. Also, they have a really good bulk service for compost and other garden/landscape materials. Great if you have a truck or something like that. Compost is super cheap! read more

This place is big. It's got all kinds of plants. It's beautiful. People here are knowledgeable. I remember having visited first when I was just a beginner gardner. And I remember visiting when I got better. I enjoyed visiting at both levels. The best thing is that this place sells compost by the truck load relatively inexpensively... I think they also delived and dump on your street/driveway for a little more. Yum! Delicious compost! Ok, not for me, but for my plants! read more

The sound of trickling fountains and the cool shade in the back will have you wandering amongst the pots of plants for hours. I think that's the idea. The management makes sure you're zoned out and before you're aware of it, the plants are stacking up in your basket and you're heading to the checkout counter. At least that's what happens to me whenever I step foot in this place. read more

Sky Nursery - smell the flowers - Nurseries & Gardening Near Me - Shoreline, Washington

I agree with all the reviews that I've read - Sky is the mecca of all Seattle gardening stores. I've shopped Home Depot and Lowes, and they are ok, but if you want knowledgeable staff, healthy and hearty plants and vegetation, you'll find it here. The new greenhouse is open, too. My husband and I went yesterday - braving a Saturday mid-morning. Parking is still a mess, but our parking karma was in good shape. We had a variety of container plants that bit the dust over the winter, and we were in search of good candidates to replace them (mostly grasses and sedges), and some advice as to what we did right (we had some survivors) and what we did wrong, so we wouldn't do it again. Charlie, out by the gazebo, spent a great deal of time with us, explaining what two Seattle natives should have known... but we didn't. We knew that container plants needed more water, yes, but what we didn't know was that they still need water in the winter before the freeze. We also learned a few other very helpful pieces of advice, and feel confident that we'll manage those container plants and their friends in the ground much better this time around. I give them 4.5 stars - if they could fix the parking situation, it would be five thumbs up (yes, sometimes I'm all thumbs... ;-). Prices - very good, especially for the quality. Difficult to use the price range tool in the review - some things are moderately priced, and some very pricey - but again, based on comparison value with other nurseries, I'm giving them 2 $$, not three. read more

I love shopping at Sky but recently witnessed one of their employees berating someone doing their job at a store I frequent. He was wearing his Sky outfit and called the woman doing her job some horrendous names. read more

I am obsessed with Sky. Everyone here is super nice and knowledgeable. Their products are excellent quality. Every time I come in for a quick stop I leave with so much more than I had anticipated. I am always very happy with my purchases. If I buy too much soil, they will always take it back as long as it is in good condition. They have a lenient return policy and I love it. The perfect way to spend a Saturday. read more

My girlfriends and I went to sky nursery for the first time and we're very disappointed in the rude service, poor management in trying to help us find a pot, plus very high prices. We would recommend Pottery Land for a bigger selection. read more

This is an amazing nursery. I bought a bunch of plants from Sky for my new garden when we moved 2 years ago and the plants are flourishing. I even had a big crop of blueberries my first summer. We bought several specimen Japanese Maples that are doing way better than trees I bought at other local nurseries. Everything I have purchased here has thrived. They have a great selection of varieties and sizes and the prices are on par with any nursery in the area. For those who say they are pricey...perhaps they are comparing to a garden center at Home Depot or Fred Meyer. Well yes, you will pay more than those places but the quality and variety far surpass anything you can get somewhere like that. The staff is very helpful and encouraging. My favorite part of their store is a little table called the "Collector's Corner". You can finally find those plants that have been on your wish list for years. read more

This is specifically directed to their bulk loader Josh. We didn't realize they shut loading down at 6pm and showed up at 605pm after he had parked the loader and was wrapping up. He walked over and said to give him a minute and he'd be back - he went back and got the loader, loader 2 yards into our truck and sent us on our way. He was extremely friendly and had an awesome attitude the whole time, to say nothing of being a surgeon with the loader and bucket. Very impressed and will be back simply based on our interaction with him. Solid guy - thanks Josh!! read more

I haven't been to Sky in a year or so and was very surprised by their big additions. The Greenhouse to the north is spacious and easy to navigate with wide rows. At first glance, I was excited to see lots of fall plants, but upon further exploration I was disappointed. Plants were expensive and the staff was unsure about some of fairly simple questions ("is ornamental kale edible?) I enjoyed perusing the older areas: lots of healthy plants and bulbs. And the staff was friendly and helpful. read more

The staff is amazingly helpful. They really want to make you sure they sell you the plant you are looking for. You can drive into the nursery and they will help our the plant in the car. The only downside and loss of star was for no infant changing table in the bathroom. read more

Came to Seattle in '77 and Sky Nursery was my place to purchase items for the house. It went through a downturn and bankruptcy about a decade ago. Since then it has expanded and is better than ever. Good work Sky Nursery!!!!! read more

I dont know why I wrote this review. Anyone that does any gardening at all has to know abourt Sky Nursery. It is a very lovely place full of wonderful specimens of almost any plant relevant to the Northwest and even some that are not. Sky is in trurth the place to go unless you go to woodinville or some other gardening cottage area like that. The one thing with Sky that must be noted is the old saying that you get what you pay for, so the price point of the plants is usually much higher that the average. One must keep in mind the the specimens are usually more rubust and of a better quality than what is likely a factory production. read more

I have had a fewf bad experiences with the manager at sky nursery. He has been there for many years. I believe his name is Joe. He was very rude, arrogant and condecending to me and a friend of mine on three separate occations. I used to spend a lot of money at sky. I will take my business elsewhere in the future. He does not put the customer first. I also had an experience where I had a question about a plant. It was a slow day, about 5-6 employees were standing around talking with one another . I was trying to be pacient...trying to catch a look and get someone to offer help..I finally said " Oh, excuse me but I have a question". They all looked at me like I was bothering them. There are some kind and helpful employees...others are rude and not helpful at all. read more

I visited a few months ago. Overpriced items and very poor snooty service. I wonder if attitude has changed now that times are tough. You reap what you sow (sorry for the pun). I gave a one star because the place looks a nice to bring your mom or out of town visitors. But I'll just go to Flower World. read more

Very helpful staff. I love the selection. I was looking for some transplant pots and they just gave them to me. Made me want to spend money!

This one star review is based on a single interaction with Joe, the owner. I signed up for Yelp just to post this review. I bought my first plant at Sky Nursery in 2001. I've been a loyal, repeat customer. I've been there about a dozen times over the last 2 years, with at least that many plants from Sky still in my home as I type this review. I've purchased and given pots and plants from Sky as gifts. I always buy a new pot and plant at the same time. About 2 weeks ago, I purchased a small fern, a small ivy, and a new pot for each new plant (~$25 out the door). It quickly became apparent that these two plants wouldn't make it. Sadly, I took both in hoping they'd do the right thing. I was patient and polite, as were the employees who helped me. I then met the owner, Joe. At the front counter, Joe stated he would give me a credit for just the plants. That's probably less than their coffee stand charges for a latte. The new pots I purchased with the plants are, as Joe explained in retail terminology, considered a "hard good" and can't be resold since they've been used. These were purchased together and I have no use for the pots without the plants. I politely told Joe that fact. Joe's customer retention strategy was to maintain his position. I declined the token credit and told him I would take my business elsewhere. Joe's nonchalant response was "That's fine." In Joe's world of retail, I'm considered an acceptable loss. I'm moving to a new house in less than a month. I'll have a decent yard and enough natural light indoors to support a slew of new plants. None of them will be purchased at Sky. To the employees at Sky: Thank you for your friendly customer service over the last fifteen years, but Joe's focus on today's tiny profit means I won't be back for tomorrow's tidy. That's fine. read more

I love Sky Nursery. They have a great selection of plants, the best in the city in my opinion. The employees there are always friendly, helpful, and knowledgeable. I've been shopping here for 10 years and rarely go elsewhere for my gardening needs. The place is huge, so you never feel claustrophobic. You used to be able to print $5 off coupons from the website, but I think that's gone now. They also have great fact sheets and classes, so you can educate yourself about plants and gardening. The only reason I gave it 4 starts instead of 5 stars is because I recently bought a lemon-eucalyptus plant from there, and when I planted it, it died. I followed all the directions and even looked up tips online, but it just died right away. Clearly it was not me, it was the plant. read more

Compare prices before you buy anything expensive here. I bought a small fountain at Sky and a month later saw the same fountain at another local nursery for $150 less. That in conjunction with some sad plant purchases and the small natives section has me going elsewhere. read more

review from Marilynn W. Sky is a beautiful Nursery that has lovely cared for plants and trees and an inspired assortment of garden related items. I have shopped there for many years and love the knowledgable available service and information. They always go the extra mile but this time it was off the charts. The fountain I purchased last summer had a problem----they said" Oh it is too heavy to lug in here we will come to you" That they did twice----Gretchen arrived with tools and a smile on the coldest morning of the year to kneel on concrete and repair the fountain. Now that is good service. read more

It's that time of year when I start to think that THIS year will be different and I WILL be able to grow plants indoors without having pots of brown, dead, crackly things all over the house by the end of summer. So I went to Sky and nothing there, including the staff, changed my mind. Wow, there's a lot of green in this place. Plants I couldn't possibly grow without a yard and a green thumb but that tempted me anyway. The staff is helpful and knowledgeable and you can browse for hours. I like that they have an entire section of low light plants. I ended up with herbs for the windowsill and a peace lilly, but since I've been assured that there really are some fruits and veggies that can be container grown, I'm sorely tempted to go back for a Meyer lemon tree and a hanging strawberry basket. Hey, this year WILL be different. Right. read more
