Stopped by Sky Shed during our Montana vacation and it ended up being one of our favorite spots in downtown Bozeman. The rooftop views alone are worth the visit -- mountains in every direction and such a great atmosphere, especially around sunset. There's also a free two-hour parking area directly across the street which made it super easy. We shared the bison burger and the peach bourbon wings, and both were excellent. The wings especially had the perfect mix of sweet and spicy. Drinks were also great. What really made the experience stand out though was the service. Our server was a 10th-generation Montanan (wish I remembered her name!) and she was incredibly friendly, welcoming, and attentive the entire time. Our room in the Kimpton Armory hotel was on the 8th floor and Sky Shed happens to be on the 9th, so it was pretty easy for us to pop in for a night cap after being out in the cold for most of the day. I usually don't haunt hotel bars but I had a F&B credit and I read really good reviews about this place, so we decided to come in and check it out. We sat at the bar and that was a great idea. The bartender was friendly and made us laugh a lot. She was also very good at her job and made us some excellent cocktails. We ordered from the cocktail menu, but she was ready to make whatever you wanted, except for a Captain and Mountain Dew because unfortunately they don't have Mountain Dew at the hotel. And don't worry, it wasn't me ordering that. Not that I'd shame anyone for their cocktail choices but the gentleman and lady next to us had some interesting combinations they wanted to order. We also ordered the carrot cake pops. Man those were good too. We contemplated coming in the next day for some more. We liked them that much. The ambiance of this rooftop bar is also fantastic. It's large and decorated really well but the piece de resistance was the outside and the views of Downtown Bozeman. The cozy fire pits and comfy seating were very appealing. I only wish we didn't stroll in from our hotel room and wore more clothes so we could have sat out there the whole time. Oh well, there's always next time. read more

This place has incredible views and I'm always happy to pay a little extra for a great view! The service was a underwhelming- when we arrived, we waited by the empty host stand for several minutes before giving up and trying to grab a seat at the bar. A server cut us off to tell us we had to wait for a hostess and she finally showed up. We were seated and our table server was absolutely delightful. However I felt awful for the table next to us (guests of the hotel) who had to wait over 20 minutes for someone to clean their table and take their drink order. Half of them gave up because it was taking so long. Dessert was nothing special. But if you're just looking for a great view for a drink, this place is worth checking out for sunset. read more

We were staying at the Kimpton Armory and decided to pop upstairs to the rooftop bar which has nice indoor-outdoor dining area. The outdoor couches/tables were taken so we snagged the corner table and enjoyed beautiful sunset views. The menu is comfort food and we ordered the grilled cheese & tomato Basil soup as well as the pork belly sliders. Both were tasty. My only feedback is that while the hostess did seat us, it was at least 15 - 20 minutes for anyone to acknowledge us despite being one of a few table occupied in the restaurant and several servers standing around talking. I made a reservation, arrived a little early and was sat immediately. Unfortunately, I waited about 12-15 minutes before a waitress came to get my drink order. I ordered a "I'll Be Your Huckleberry"- it was okay, nothing spectacular for a cocktail. I moved to a better table in the corner by the windows just in time to watch the sun set- gorgeous. We sat at the bar and had some elk meatballs and trout dip which were amazing. So while the food and drinks were very good the service was almost offensive. The 4 or 5 waitstaff that we saw were constantly talking about the other guests in the restaurant. I get that other guests we're sitting at the fire pit (which apparently costs &500 to just sit there!) without a reservation but I don't need to hear about during my entire visit. Ironically the bartender who was good told us where we shouldn't go in Bozeman. Overall the views were incredible if you were lucky enough to snag one of the outside tables at sunset. Views for days!!! I'm always on the hunt for rootop bars, and Sky Shed fit the bill! It's located on the 9th floor of the Kimpton hotel. There is ample street parking around and a garage nearby. It's spring in Montana, so as far as weather, anything goes! It's sunny, it's cloudy, it's raining, it's snowing... But on this particular visit, it did all but snow (thankfully). I was able to sit outside and enjoy the views for a bit, before it started to get windy. Service can use some help, but I was ok with that, since my focus was on the views. I had a couple of glasses of their Rose and ordered their loco moco for dinner. It was not a typical Hawaiian loco moco, which is understandable, but it was pretty good. It had a Hawaiian beef patty, mushroom gravy, sunny side up egg , and furikake on top of a veggie fried rice. Tons of flavor and tons of texture from the fried rice. Since I wasn't super hungry, I didn't order any more items. I am curious enough about some other things on their menu to wander back in again. This is a great spot to catch the game (plenty of TV's) over a round of fancy cocktails, and enjoy the view at downtown Bozeman. My daughter and I were invited here last minute and decided why not? Drinks were fine, the food left a lot to be desired. $26 for a steak Caesar salad, I expected much more than half of an over cooked steak that was 35% gristle. I had the burger which again was okay but for the price, no. Patty was a bit dry and the bun fell apart. Total without tip was $62 for one drink, one soda, one salad, and a burger. Wonderful dinner experience. I had a craving for Asian food tonight and the Asian menu options here are fantastic! I had the shrimp Panang curry and my husband had the general tsp's pork ribs. Both excellent flavor profile and hit the spot. I especially liked how the chef roasted the vegetables in the Panang prior. Dorothy definitely didn't think she was in Bozeman anymore. It's been A little over two years since I've been to Bozeman and all I can say is wowza! Overall there is so much growth and there are many new developments and establishments but the Sky Shed really takes things to a higher level...literally the "sky" - rooftop! I'm not gonna lie I was very jealous of the people that were soaking in the hot pool outside but at least I was busy enjoying my french fries that were spectacular and my chocolate wonton which was divine and the dips for both of those dishes were absolutely perfect. Let me start by saying I have loved Sky Shed since The Armory opened and visit on a fairly frequent basis. Hubby and I decided to drop in on a week night before dinner reservations at another downtown spot. It was fairly early around 5:30.. bar wasn't very busy. We decided to sit by the indoor fireplace which was comfy and cozy for the two of us The wait staff is amazing- attentive and not overbearing. We enjoyed our first cocktail and decided to wait a smidge before ordering a second as I believe most people do at Sky Shed since it's such a fantastic venue due to views and the comfy cozy fireplace. The Manager came by, asked if we wanted another cocktail... we responded 'not right now'... imagine my total shock and surprise that within less than five minutes, the wait staff brought us the bill! As a local, and Downtown Bozeman Business Owner that continually touts all the benefits of businesses including dining and having drinks downtown, I was beyond appalled and disappointed in the feeling of being pushed out of Sky Shed. Yup.. that's how it felt- we were being pushed out. I'm so disappointed in the management of Sky Shed- what if I was a hotel guest, a visitor to Bozeman and not a local that knew service had been and should be better?? Therefore, a poor review equals poor management NOT poor wait staff. I know Sky Shed is better than the experience we had; I certainly hope the manager changes her attitude of pushing out paying guests because they decide to wait a bit before ordering another round or food. read more

We had reservations for 4:45 on a Saturday. We arrived a few minutes early and were seated right away. It took almost 20 minutes before a server said anything to us, and we had to snag her from a nearby table. She said she'd be right with us. Seven minutes later we got water and menus. So about 25 minutes in. From there the service was efficient in terms of timing - but nobody ever came back to ask how our food was. We both had hamburgers, which were cooked to death and dry. Tater tots were good, however. We had to flag down our server to get our bill, and then she lost and did not return my credit card. Great view but it was packed and noisy during our visit. What an amazing view! We ordered a few drinks and the fries as an app. The fries had a nice Asian twist and were delicious! Wine was good too. I wish they had a cab option for less than $17. That's a little steep. I would recommend more wine options at different price points. The bar is located in what seems to be the highest spot in Bozeman. This is the best restaurant space in Bozeman. Gorgeous views in all directions. The food and drinks are of average quality, like a nice restaurant at an airport.
