First time at the Skylight Theatre, and I have been missing out on a great theater option. We saw Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, and it felt like watching a national touring company. Having seen this show in Chicago with Donny Osmond and Janet Metz, I was not sure if this production would be disappointing in my mind. However, Laura Paruzynski as the Narrator and Mason Hanizeski as Joseph have so much to be proud of. The Narrator must be clear and concise in their singing, and Laura was perfect! What a powerhouse voice! Mason stepped into his role with confidence and gave a performance as Joseph that rivaled Donny Osmond in every way. But I must also applaud ALL the performers for their presentations, each one was really fun to watch and listen to. The young performers were mesmerizing, and their acting was so endearing. I could not decide on any one actor to watch as they were all incredibly well cast. The smaller stage felt large with the scenery filling every corner and the use of all areas on the stage. This is a top-notch show. The theater itself is a beautiful old building, and there is not a bad seat in the house. How wonderful to have a clear view from every seat, and the side seats in what can best be described as boxes seemed as wonderful as the next. The decor shows the history of this location, and it is worth the time to arrive early and look around fully. The bar is a bit expensive, but if it helps support this quality of theater, I'm good with that. Although this building is obviously older, the accessibility is good. There are steps into the main door, but the entryway just to the north has a ramp, which makes it a very simple entry. There is an elevator for access to all levels. The ladies' room on the main floor has a handicapped stall, and while it is on the smaller size, it is usable with a wheelchair if needed. The bar is on the second floor, but again, there is an elevator. Parking is either on the street, but I recommend using the parking garage around the corner, at 212 N. Milwaukee St. We paid $9 for the duration of the show, and it was covered in this winter weather. Easy access to I-94 is a plus. Being in The Third Ward also assures you can find a meal before or after a performance. Thank you to the production and theater for also collecting donations for Feed America.

Skylight is a cool old-fashioned theater to experience. "Frankenstein, the Musical" brought me to this fabulous theater in downtown Milwaukee and we really enjoyed it. I didn't know that this theater was here! The bar area is cool as well.

I recently attended and very much enjoyed the Skylight Music Theatre's production of Oliver! It's been years since I've seen a production of Oliver and I so enjoyed theirs. It's such a great musical to see during the holidays as the story itself is great but also the 19th century London set with flame lanterns transports me a bit. As I've mentioned previously, I don't think there's a bad seat in the house. The sound system is crystal clear as well. I've been here on a few occasions now and have enjoyed it each and every time. They're situated right on Broadway in the Third Ward with so many amazing eateries within walking distance. And, if you want to enjoy a boozy nightcap after the show, the Journeyman and their rooftop bar, The Outsider, is also a short walk away. Everyone I've interacted with who works here is so lovely. They offer a warm welcome and will happily show you to your seat. Still--5 stars and a wholehearted--get to it!

I don't think there's a bad seat in the house, in if you'd like to show, this is the place to go. Tonight I enjoyed thoroughly spring awakening

We attended Little a shop of Horrors on New Year's Eve. The show was outstanding. The subject matter a little heavy (murder, greed and domestic violence) but a brief curtain talk addressed domestic violence and shared about Sojourner, a leading nonprofit provider of domestic violence resources. They raised dollars for the cause. The Skylight is a beautiful theater. Our seat neighbors were slightly out of sorts, and even ride, but I thought the ushers handled them and their complaints demands beautifully. In winter, it would be helpful to have the coat check open. Maybe an usher could staff it. We happened to be sitting near people with big coats and they were hanging onto our laps and really crowding the rows. Maybe having a safe place to hang them would be helpful. At the end, though, we had a wonderful time. Great story, talented cast.

I've had "go to the Opera" on my bucket list for quite some time. My large family had a gift exchange for Christmas. Picture twenty five people and a pile of gifts stacked high on the floor. We draw numbers, choose an unmarked gift from the pile and steal gifts from others that we like more than ours. I had a nice gift, fuzzy socks, lotion, all very fancy pants. And then the second to last person to go stole my gift. Sigh. But, I now got to steal from anyone! I walked straight over to my cousin and politely but assertively asked her to hand over her voucher for two Skylight tickets to the Opera. Score! After all, it's on my bucket list. My bestie and I attended a showing of Ruddigore (The Witch's Curse), an opera. We had a lovely time. It was a nice venue and a very well done show. Entertaining for sure. I must admit my bias. I expected to be in an ornate theatre with balconies and very fancy dressed people watching a short round bellied Italian man singing in a language that I couldn't understand. Wow, I was so wrong! There is a story and acting, all in English. Nearly everything was sung rather than spoken. You're allowed to bring drinks into the theatre too. There is a small vendor inside the theatre with coffee, water and other items. Also, a small area of tables and chairs in the lobby area to relax before the show.

How am I the first to review the Skylight? This must be a glitch. First rate theater group the actual theater is the Cabot Theater and the Skylight Music Theater is the larger venue and artistic production company that puts on opera, musicals, and some other high culture entertainment. The facility is lovely, the small staff is polite and accommodating, the performance quality has ranged from quite good to exquisite. You simply must see some performances here, Skylight makes me happy to live in Milwaukee.

Just go if you're wanting a fun experience with puzzles and games and card games... and experience the life of a spy. I have been at different times of the week, but do find it most fun on the weekends when there are more people. It's more a fun experience than a dinner place. Food is ok, but not for the foodie. It's for the inner spy in you. Mission impossible Burger with potato chips Burger was nicely flavored, nothing crazy to rave about but still yummy. Furtive Fish fry Bit salty, and breading completely detached from the fish. But still a good crunch and the fish was very well seasoned. Broccolini salad good, nice complement to the fish fry SpyPA Told this was an IPA from Lakefront, but didn't really have the kick of an IPA. Would not get it again. So food, pretty safe. Most of our guests were from out of town and thoroughly enjoyed not only the selection but the quality. Excellent selection of breakfast items, fresh fruits and freshly cooked vegetables that were not soggy and gross. Good chicken, fish, prime rib and more. Of course a large selection of desserts too. Seniors are offered a discount which was a pleasant surprise. All in all a great experience!

Unfortunately, this second dinner was even worse than the first. The rice was undercooked, the short ribs were dry, and the scallops were gritty. I realize that, for some people, the Buy One, Get One promotion is a big draw. However, I suspect that the menu prices are inflated to offset the BOGO savings, so it doesn't end up being much of an actual benefit. My wish is that they would focus on improving the quality and consistency of the food and charge prices that appropriately cover their costs while still allowing them to make a profit. I don't think we'll be coming back anytime soon, which is sad because there is so much to like about the location and atmosphere.
