I have been going to this place for 50+ years. It's always been a favorite for good burgers in a fun atmosphere. My absolute favorite item in their menu was the onion rings. They were obviously loved by others too. I remember I went one time and they told me someone bought all their onion rings for a wedding party...so fun. You could just tell they were handmade every day with a unique, flakey breading. They obviously went away from this probably to save time I am guessing. I've been driving by this place for a couple years. I had to do a double take the first time I saw it. I was like, "Is that a 50's style drive-in restaurant?" And then I was like, "Hell yeah, that's a 50's style drive-in restaurant!" I took the day off today to get some Christmas shopping done. Since it was 71 degrees and sunny instead of 31 degrees and raining, I decided to stop. After reviewing the menu and yelp, it became evident that I needed to order The '52 Combo, which includes a Sky-Hi burger, onion rings, and a milkshake. I asked the waiter which milkshake he recommended and he suggested the Rootbeer flavor. So that's what I went with. A few minutes later, my food was served piping hot. I let it cool off for a minute while I snapped some photos. I started with the milkshake, which was delicious. It was so smooth that the thin straw worked just fine. Then I went for a bite of the burger, which was unique and unlike any burger I've ever had, but in a great way. The pickles and sauce really made this burger delicious. The grilled bun was excellent. The onion rings were very hot and tasty. What an excellent lunch. This place can compete with Swenson's any day. read more

My family and I went here for our first time this past weekend while adventuring our way around Cuyahoga. We liked our visit here much better than our visits to Swenson's in the past. We will be going here instead when we have a burger craving while out that way! Better service, and the food quality was better, as well. Need a milkshake? You need to go here!!! Freshly made and tastes great! I had the peanut butter one and it's so good....better than any peanut butter milkshakes I've ever had. So creamy and I could taste both the peanut butter and vanilla ice cream. The person who came to the car was helpful and friendly. I have to say this is one of my favorite places to get fast food when I am in the area. I did make the mistake of ordering the Ultimate Burger this last trip. I say mistake, because it is freaking huge... I mean like 3/4 of a pound of meat alone. We are talking the entire days meal... well in my case it was my only meal of the day so I guess it works. The food is always good, the service is fast and very helpful. You pull up and someone will come out and take your order. If you are eating here they will bring a window tray. When you are ready to leave or if you need something else, just turn on your headlights and they will come running. Wow what a disappointment. Came in today and found out they were out of potato teasers. Fine - a let down, but fine. Ordered onion rings instead. The bun on my SkyHi was burned in multiple places which made the thing taste like charcoal. The patties were overcooked and tough. The onion rings were either old or overcooked, because they were rock hard and basically inedible. Skyway is a fairly long drive for me - I only go here a few times a year when I want drive in food that isn't the crud that Swensons has started churning out. This is the BEST burger in Akron! My family has been eating here since before I was born so naturally I followed and continued loving these juicy and sweet burger recipe! The burger with everything is my favorite! California drink, onion rings, and saurkraut balls are a must!! I love the old fashion drive up style of "Turn on lights for service"! We usually take it to go, however if you prefer to eat there, they offer you a window tray! The service is awesome and quick, I am absolutely Skyway fan atleast once a month and once in awhile It is nice to sit back in the car and enjoy a fresh steaming burger. I miss the location in medina, but I will go out of my way to visit the Akron location since it is a long established tradition in my family and once again, the best burger ever! The burgers are good, the crispy fried items are delicious (their onion rings and potato teasers are truly top notch!), and they have the best hotdog/coney dog in Akron. A quarter pound Nathan's Famous hotdog, griddled, put on a fresh, split top bun with Aunt Ruth's chili and American cheese! Yum! I've seen this place while driving on Market Street but never thought to stop by until my cousin all the way from Los Angeles read this in an article for places for really good burgers in America. Works like a typical drive-in turn on your lights if you want service! They have an extensive menu filled with different burgers, sides and milkshakes. They also have other entrees besides burgers but I got a burger since that is what they are known for. I decided on Aunt Ruth's Onion Ring burger because I was craving onion rings and a burger and was not sure about the size of the burger. I topped it off with a coffee milkshake. WHOA! Good thing I didn't order a side because the burger was massive! It was super filling for just being a normal hungry. The coffee milkshake was one of the best I've had. It actually tasted like coffee and more bitter than sweet. I see many people comparing this to Swenson's but as far as flavor Swenson's wins. However, the cost is similar to Swenson's considering the burger size. So I do think Skyways is a better value. I also found them to have faster service compared to Swenson's and this was during the lunch rush. Definitely worth the stop though and I can see why it made foodie news! read more

Such an amazing hometown burger. My mom grew up on this place so we decided to stop while visiting Akron. I had the Sky Hi Combo with French Fries and a Root Beer and my mother had the Sky Hi Combo with sauerkraut balls and fried mushroom. The Sauerkraut Balls were by far my favorite. Whenever you pull up to this place you just have to pick a parking spot and turn your lights on and that lets the attendants know you're ready to order and then once you order you turn your headlights off. We went today, during the corona virus craziness and they handled it extremely well. We've eaten here before, as my husband grew up in Fairlawn, so we knew the food was amazing. If you haven't tried Skyway because you've tried Swensons and you think they are similar, you're definitely missing out. Even though the concept is the same, the food is slightly different. Skyway's sides are waaaayyyyyy better!!! The burgers are fairly equal, Swensons being a little more sweeter, which I like, but I prefer Skyways sides over Swensons any day. I went to Skyway for the first time in about 7 years recently, and it was just as good as I remember it. The Aunt Ruth Burger is certainly as good or better than the famous Galley Boy from Swenson's. Both are top-notch burgers for fast food style restaurants. The potato teasers are nice and cheesy. They almost have the taste and texture of fried mac and cheese bites. The sauerkraut balls are fresh and crispy. I was satisfied with the service. My waiter was polite and hustled from car to car. I recommend giving this place a try. read more

Going back in time 60 years or so. This drive in has maintained its integrity. The burgers are really tasty with lots of options. I had a delicious strawberry milkshake. I tried some of hubby's fries. They were like home made. Yummy. The servers come right to your car window. Turn your lights on for service.
