Slack Review 01/30/2026 Becky and I dined at Slack Drinks and Dining in Joseph tonight. Slacks Ribeye Steak dinner was so good, we thought we should try their Friday Night Prime Rib Special. Seating was available at a 4 top. We both chose the Friday Night Special, 10oz cut MR, Salad, Grilled Yellow Corn and Garlic Toast Salads were cold and fresh, waitress was timely, serving the dinner after we finished our Salad Our 10oz Rib portions were generous, medium rare, Smoked to perfection. The Grilled Yellow Corn charred and sweet. Garlic Toast made a tasty backstop for the Corn. Wait staff was attentive, thank you. Good friends joined us after dinner for some laugh's. Waited all week for prime rib and it was terrible. Potato was hard as a rock, prime rib was tough and no flavor at all. Waited almost 30 minutes before anyone took my drink order. It was busy but not that bad, employees were standing around doing nothing. read more

We went for dinner. They didn't give us the option to sit in the dining room but said we could sit in the bar. We picked a seat and sat for probably 20 min. No one brought us a menu. We went up to the bar and couldn't get anyone's attention. The waitress passed us multiple times. No one took our order. We eventually just got up and left. Horrible service. First time here!! Here's what I thought! The entrance was a bit confusing, and service started off slow. We made reservations and the host didn't have a table ready for us. It took about 15 minutes to get a drink despite it being a quiet time. By 6:22 p.m., they were already out of ribeyes and salmon, and the twice-baked potatoes are no longer offered. The menus looked worn and outdated, both in person and online, and drinks were served in plastic cups. Once we ordered, things moved more smoothly -- our appetizer arrived in 15 minutes and entrees in about 45. Our server Jessie was very kind and friendly, which made the experience better. There were no TVs in the dining area but I loved the decorations and the clean table area. Overall, friendly service but room for improvement in food availability and presentation. read more

We were visiting, from out of town and thought we would try Slacks. We had prime rib and Ribeye, the food was amazing, the server was so kind, and very attentive and the atmosphere of the restaurant was perfect. We would definitely recommend. read more

We are here yesterday. Shrimp cocktail was good. So was the fish and chips. The hamburger was awful. It came out cold. The meat was thin and very greasy. Fried were cold too. That hamburger patty was definitely not home made awful awful awful. read more

The ambiance is fun. It's a cowboy place with western decorations, country music and the rodeo on the TV. The waitress was nice, professional and checked in with us several times. Outside seating was crowded and loud so we opted to sit inside. There was only one cook in the kitchen on Sunday afternoon so it took an HOUR to get our food. However, the food was super good!! It was worth the wait! We had the fried chicken sandwich, Ruben sandwich, brisket sandwich and prime steak sandwich. It was large portions and we didn't think we would finish, but we all finished everything! read more

Came here for dinner with a couple of friends and had mixed feelings. The ambience is amazing--warm lighting, stylish decor, and great music made it a perfect place to unwind. Unfortunately, the food didn't live up to the setting. Dishes looked better than they tasted--bland and underwhelming overall. Service was just okay--staff seemed distracted and not very attentive. Unbelievable. Genuinely the worst service I've ever seen at a restaurant. We waited over an hour and a half to get our food. They completely forgot about 1 of my party members food too. After waiting this long you would think the food is good right? Wrong. Food was less than average. My side of fries was extremely sad. Felt like my food sat under a lamp for about an hour of our wait. Staff checked in at our table maybe twice the entire time. Unreal. I'd skip this place if you want good food. First off don't bring out a stained and wrinkled to hell menu, first impressions are very important. Super over priced and slow service. Turn down the music in the dining area so you can have a conversation with the people you went out to eat with. Had the Filet steak. The meat was very tender and flavorful. The baked potato, cooked vegetables, and side salad were all good. Patty melt with sourdough was great. The Ribeye, although fatty, was excellent as well. The only improvement, we got medium cooked steaks vs the medium rare we ordered...still enjoyed the whole meal...which was all served by a nice, young lady who was also taking care of others in the packed restaurant. read more

Very loud music in the common area so we chose the bar. Music was quiet but waitresses were yelling and so were customers. Food was ok and over priced. Service was horrible. At the end its a required 15% tip. She didn't earn that and didn't care because she gets paid either way. read more

If I could give this place 10 stars I would! Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner every time I'm in town this is my first stop! The food is amazing, the staff is personable and the place is full of life! The drinks aren't just some boring "whiskey and coke" they have the most delicious craft cocktails (highly recommend the old fashioned) on the perfect cozy patio! While the food was good enough, the bill was a total scam. When presented with the total bill on the card reader, I knew something was terribly wrong. I asked for an itemized bill and the waitress said I could have it after I signed the bill. WHAT? Consequently, I added a very small tip knowing that I was being ripped off. Sure enough, I was charged $26 for the Ahi Salad that was listed as $18. In addition, the bean burger substitution was an extra $5 which wasn't disclosed. $24 for a bean burger with fries seems a bit much. I assume the waitress was in on this scam and hence her refusal to let me see an itemized bill. The other two restaurants I visited in Joseph were much cheaper, tastier, and honest. read more

Drove by this place on our way to the lake mid-morning and took note of how many cars......obviously a great breakfast place. Came back by for lunch and so glad we did! I had an amazing Fiesta Salad served in an edible bowl so fresh it crumbled - had to be made this morning. My wife had an entree steak salad so crisp, fresh and delicious. Went there for my birthday and you don't know if you should seat yourself or if someone will seat you. But regardless, the prices are very high for the amount of food you get. I ordered the Station burger that came with fries. The burger didn't even fit the bun it was so small and thin and they didn't even ask how I wanted it cooked. It came out hard and very well done and was extremely dry. The fries were skinny fries but were good along with the ranch dressing. The iced tea was decent too but I wound up being sick after eating there for the next 24 hours. The people in my party had the same issues with their food. read more

Just finished dinner here. Not too shabby. I had the hanger steak and my bride had the steak salad. My meal was good, just wished there was more vegetables on the plate. Wife salad was fine. True to their name, they're slacking. We sat outside, initially, and neither of the gals working even acknowledged us. A cook came outside and suggested different seats indoors. We moved seats and waited for a server and a menu. After literally 15 minutes of making occasion eye contact with the girls and still not being acknowledged or served or handed a menu, we simply got up and left. Let's start with the courtesy of the staff: Horrendous. We stood out in the rain waiting for 10 minutes waiting for them to seat us while 3 employees looked and made eye contact several times. The beer pour was 1/3 foam and she acted like she was being hassled by having to serve us. The entire ordering process was awkward because of the servers attitude. Also, as someone who enforces codes for a city, eating ice cream behind the bar is against safe food service. 25 minutes since we ordered our food... The ice cream place seems nice. The blonde waitress in there was moving. Hard worker. Ok. Things are changing. The blonde is now my waitress. She brought our food, was personable and funny. Great service from her. The food was good. The Farmer burger was delicious. The fried egg and bacon on it was cooked perfectly. Ok. Started as a 1-Star meal; ended as a 3-Star meal due to the excellent service from the blonde waitress and the great food quality. read more

I'm normally not one to give such a low rating. But our service was not good at all. We arrived at 5:05 and got water right away. We placed an appetizer and an entree right away. 5:40 rolls around and we still didn't have our appetizer. At about 5:50 we got the appetizer and the entree at the same time. Annoying but not the end of the world. We asked for more ranch for our appetizer and we got it right away. We didn't get a knife with our ribeye so we had to wait till we found a waitress to ask for one. We were checked on once after the food was delivered. We never could find our waitress to ask for a refill on water. We waited 25 minutes for our bill. No one ever came so I had to go to the bar and ask. It still took 7 more minutes for us to get our card back. One woman next to us sat there for 20 minutes with nothing before someone asked her if she had been helped. There were 6 girls working that night but 2 were on break so only 4 girls were running the whole place. Unfortunately we won't be stopping by again since our experience was painfully long. read more

I am not prone to exaggerate, and I am not now; this was the worst service I've ever had at a restaurant. My wife and I were there on taco Tuesday (6/18/24), and they were a little busy. We ordere me 5 soft-shell tacos and a plate of chips and salsa. We sat waiting for over an hour, just for the chips. We waited another hour, when we called it quits. They still hadn't delivered our tacos. They explained that the kitchen was busy. I worked restaurants back of the house for 25 years. I have never had a day where I was THAT delayed. My family and I stopped after noticing this restaurant on our way into our campground for the week. They have a cool western atmosphere that matches the town and good menu selection for both adults and kids. We hit this during the downtime of the day at around 2 in the afternoon. The server was very prompt and polite. The quality of the food was good. Not the best I've ever had but it met a high standard. We would definitely go back again next time we are in Joseph. read more

For our last dinner in Joseph, we decided to check out Slack. They have a nice little outdoor patio area that we opted for even though it was a little chilly. Menu is mostly pub food and they have a decent drink/cocktail menu. The service is as good (a little on the slow side), people were friendly, and prices were average for the area. With our food choices we had a hit and a miss. I had the fish sandwich with sweet potato fries. The sandwich was really tasty, fries were so-so. Hubby had the Ahi Tuna dinner and he was very disappointed with it. The Ahi was not cooked properly and the veggies were not fresh. It was a bit of a gamble to opt for an entree like this and it didn't work out. Lesson learned. We would definitely recommend this place though, just stick with the bar food. read more

We love the outdoor fire pits, the remodeling, and the decor/ambiance they create for every holiday. A must visit when we have guests and an overall great place to stop for a meal or a beverage. Location and outdoor seating was great as was the food but we waited over an hour for our lunch. Waitress didn't apologize for the wait or come back and ask if we wanted more drinks or refill water. Not sure what was happening. There was a waitress who was wearing a lot of purple today who wasn't our waitress but she was doing an OUTSTANDING job trying to make sure tables had what they needed.
