We dined at Slack's Oyster House & Grill for the first time last night. We were joined by special friends. Our server Cheryl welcomed us warmly and provided meticulous service, always checking in at the exactly correct moment. Peter, the host, added to the experience, checking in and making sure we had everything we wanted. Even the director food/beverage for the casino, Matt, said hello. If you want to be treated like family, Slack's will do that and more. Our dinners included the Chicken Marsala, the prime rib, and the haddock. Portions were generous and prepared correctly. We enjoyed appetizers as well including fresh oysters, hummus platter, onion soup and the bruschetta.. Bar drinks and wine selection were good. We stopped into Slack's Oyster House on Super Bowl Sunday for a quick appetizer and a glass of wine, and WOW -- what a great find! I had no idea they do buck-a-shuck oysters on Sundays during football season. If I'd known earlier, I definitely would've been here all season long! We grabbed a dozen and they were fresh, cold, and delicious. Our server, Karen, was absolutely outstanding from start to finish. She convinced me to try the beef vegetable soup, and I'm so glad she did. She mentioned that the beef comes from the ends of their filet mignon -- and honestly, it was the best beef vegetable soup I've ever had. Rich, flavorful, and she even split it into two cups since we were sharing. Such a thoughtful touch! Before we left, my boyfriend wanted to gamble a bit, so I planned to take another glass of wine onto the casino floor. I told Karen I wanted to try something different, and she surprised me with a mini wine tasting of three options. I ended up choosing a wine I never would've tried on my own -- and loved it. Anne was EXCEPTIONAL!! My family and I decided to enjoy Easter at the casino. After losing terribly we worked up an appetite so we decided to try Slack's.. I am glad we did!! Anne treated us like royalty. She was so professional and truly made our night end on a high note. She kept our drinks filled, and more importantly our bread basket. The filet was worth the price & cooked to perfection & the portions were huge! It might be a little pricier than the sports bar but it is totally worth it. Six stars for Slack's! This is one of my fav places. Simply put, it has GREAT food and the prices are beyond reasonable -like WAY cheaper than any other high-end casino restaurant. I'd like to emphasize that the food is WAY better too than most any other high-end casino joint. Let's get into some deets: It's nice inside and I opt to sit by the window so I can peep out the casino action as I munch out. First off, the apps are mental. The Fried Calamari is VERY copious and yummy AF. I also had some sort of roll-up app thing (Grilled Zookeeny Roll-ups) that was outta sight and dynamite. Service is friendly and "on-point" as well. The steak is PRIME cut AND comes WITH sides! When do you ever see that these days? You do at Slack's. Some places now try to pass off Angus beef as being superlative. Angus beef is ghetto, bro. Prime cut is where it's at -not Angus. The sides at Slack's are big and high-quality. The plating has been absolutely wonderful and highly Festivus. The food has always been freshly cooked and excellently prepared. Drinks are great and dessert is great. Actually, everything is great! Bonus deets: They have a cocktail called "The Elvis" which has Screwball Peanut Butter Whiskey and Banana Liqueur and Chocolate Liquor and a hand-torch bacon strip for 12 bucks. Slack's has a comfortable atmosphere but they need to take "Oyster House" out of their name. I ordered six oysters and the meat was no bigger than a penny, the shells maybe the size of a half dollar. I sent a picture to my friend who eats oysters all of the time and he thought they might have been illegal. I'm not saying that they were, but I have NEVER EVER seen such tiny oysters in my life. I have gotten raw (not undercooked but raw) steak on two occasions. We were in the area and against my better judgement I ordered seafood. Scallops were raw. Like very raw. Five Stars all the way! Last night's dinner was probably one of the best meals my husband and I have both had at a restaurant in months! Our greeting was very warm and welcoming, our waiter Jay was extremely friendly, attentive and knowledgeable on the best wine and dinner selections, the food was served nice and hot and it tasted delicious!!! We both started with New England Clam Chowder which was a white thin broth chowder filled with lots of stock and it was very flavorful with a touch of bacon. I selected the Broiled Scallop Parmesan which was absolutely fabulous! The sea scallops were broiled in a Parmesan cream sauce topped with crumbs served with Asparagus and two other sides. I chose the Whipped Potatoes and Corn & Asparagus Risotto. The Risotto was delicious! My husband had the Big Eye Colorado Lamb Rack and he absolutely loved it! His was served with White Beans, Sugar Snap Peas, Smoked Tomato, Arugula & Feta. We were looking forward to trying it out. The drinks took forever. I didn't dare order a second drink as my drink came out at almost the same time as our dinner. The steaks were excellent along with the loaded baked potato. I don't mind waiting a little bit but drinks should not take 15mib. Had to ask for water twice. Truly five star service! From the greeting of the maitre d to the waiter, Jay's, recommendation on the menu and the wine list, it was all spot on. The wine was amazing and the food was exceptional! We started with the clam chowder, which had the perfect flavor and a hint of smoke from the bacon. I had the rack of lamb, which was cooked perfectly. Super tender and full of flavor! The smoked tomato was an added surprise that I enjoyed immensely, and the beans were great as well. My wife had the broiled scallops and she was very pleased with her dish also. The Meomi (Pinot Noir) that Jay recommended was amazing and paired well with my lamb. I simply cannot rave enough about my experience tonight! Not a good look! I've been here a couple time and the food was good. I mean really good. But today there is hardly anyone in here and it just about 6pm and to my surprise my dinner special order goes in and comes out quick. So I'm thinking yum mix and hot. is my sword fish cold ok luke warm. It fish people wth is wrong. I'm kind pissed. So she takes it back and comes back in 3 minutes it still not hot. Maybe it is not supposed to be hot. I don't get it. The bread was hot the potatoes where hot the veggies ok I don't know I sent it back. This is a seafood restaurant? Third times a charm? Visited this classy and stylish restaurant after (badly losing at) slots for the first time in two years. Had an awesome waitress, super friendly and funky, she actually remembered me from childhood (a really long time ago lol). She made great recommendations. Two of us had fish dishes (mine was the salmon with capers and parmesan risotto with brussel sprouts.). Brussel sprouts were exceptional, crunchy yet easy to chew. Sidenote: always hated brussel sprouts but this place does a great job! Split a grilled caesar salad to start (huge) and tried the lemon drop martini with sugar rim for the first time... extraordinary! Only caveat (restaurantvis super noisy since it's so close to the casino floor. Good for business though: if you can't talk to your comrades, just eat and drink more! read more

Started with a lobster bisque and that was enough..ended there too. It was as far from a bisque as possible. No cream, and texture and color of tomato vegetable soup..actually if you look at the 2 pictures posted of lobster bisque by others here, you can get a sense for it, although mine was more of a brown color and thin like soup..just google pictures of lobster bisque and see the difference in color and texture, due to cream and the puree method. Someone at Slack's should look into this..it's a shame they can't get that right..didn't bother with anything else, although was thinking of a filet, but heard the bartender tell another patron they were out of filet..pretty bad for a place only open Thu-Sun.. read more

Saturday night we celebrated my husband birthday with some friends and it was a horrible night. We love the clams and we were very disappointed because they were so small and had no taste. The prime rib also had no taste. They claimed that there's was no bread because of covid and I don't buy that because every other restaurant is serving the bread. The service was very slow and the prices outrageous. They couldn't even spare a cupcake for my husbands birthday. Reserved table for 3 for 7pm, seated and ordered drinks (3 waters and 1 soda) 7.20 finally received the drinks. ordered our app and main dishes, they were very good though slow to come out. finished up and waited 15 mins before we could get the check, which turned out to be someone else's. Finally got the right check. 2 other people at a nearby table had an issue and asked to see the manager, he came to them and as he walked away i heard him mumbling (he thought to himself) "why do I have to solve their problem". Found this restaurant on Yelp and decided to give it a try. So glad we were in the mood to do something random (aka go to a restaurant inside of a casino). Food was excellent. Very clean restaurant and the team was super kind and attentive. MaryLou was our waitress. She was very sweet and made our experience an enjoyable one. My husband and I had a beer each, oysters, Caesar salad and the lobster bisque. We also tried the wings. All of it was fresh and tasty. Would absolutely visit again. read more

It is difficult to write a glowing review when there were failures at such a high priced dining experience. But somehow I may do so, at least a semi-glowing review. I just noticed that this restaurant is indicating $$ here on Yelp and I feel that must be changed to be fair to potential consumers. I feel this is clearly a higher end facility that serves and charges for your meal A la carte so I personally would consider this establishment to be more in the range of $$$ to $$$$. Why am I writing a semi glowing review of a high end dining experience who experienced failures? Service failure recovery, that's why. Two issues that came up: I ordered the 8oz. center cut fillet priced at $30 A la carte and asked for it to be cooked medium rare. To which our server informs me that it is actually cooked and served bone-in for added flavor while grilling even though every other steak on their menu indicates bone in and this one doesn't. Fine, I don't mind dealing with a bone. When it arrives at the table the server asked me to cut into my steak to ensure it was cooked properly. It was well done. Now I'm not a huge fan of sending food back but our server insisted. I suspect that he could tell by the look that my steak was not cooked properly, prompting him to ask me to cut into it. Once the new steak was delivered it was amazing, with the blue cheese butter melting on top. The other failure that occurred was with my mothers meal. She did not share with me until leaving. She ordered the special, their take on a captains platter. I contained a half lobster but they did not crack or split the claw. So this issue was not given a chance to be rectified. Their recovery was good on my steak issue. The chef tended to the matter personally and delivered it to the table. The manager came over and apologized, offering complimentary dessert. Everyone who approached the table after the issue acknowledged it and apologized. So what was good (scratch that). So what was amazing about this restaurant? Try the Lobster Deviled Eggs, Crab Cakes, Lobster Risotto, the "Medium Rare Bone In Center Cut Fillet", the Blue Cheese Butter and the free oven roasted strawberries for dessert. Really the taste of the food was great, and once prepared correctly it was delicious. I would go back and I would recommend this place to others, I'm sure the kitchen will get it right. read more

Everything in a good restaurant comes down to management. From the slovenly maitre d' who sat scrolling thru his phone at a side table as patrons waited to be seated, to the chaos of a very lovely, professional server trying to juggle 10 tables with NO help, to a desert menu consisting of only 2 items. When we spoke to this manager, he seemed disinterested at best. While the food was good, paying $50 for an entree is not equivalent to eating at Friendly's, ffs. The limited appetizer menu ( literally 4 offerings) was bad enough, but then they were out of crab cakes...if youre6open 2 days a week and you pride yourself on your seafood, seems like you'd make sure they were available. The saving grace was a delightful, funny and professional server, Donna. This woman FLEW around that crowded dining room while the untucked, messy concierge sat on his phone, the bartender schmoozed with the 2 people at the bar, and the hapless manager wandered around with a useless grin. We literally would have ordered more to eat ( if it was available) and more to drink if perhaps the manager had stepped in to help with drink orders. Disappointed. I never ate at any of the restaurants inside Plainridge before so when I decided to come here with the my boyfriend it was a failure. The fact that we went on Valentine's Day is even more disappointing. To start off we ordered the Oyster Casino which was all bread crumb n a slice of bacon with no oysters whatsoever. For a 15 dollar app I would've expect more. For our main dish we both ordered the Surf & Turf. Our waitress was adamant that we shouldn't just get the usual side mashed potatoes and that we should try the many side dishes they offer. My boyfriend and I gave in and substituted our side dish. He got asparagus and I got the Parmesan risotto. We waited almost an hour until our food came out and lo and behold we still both end up with mashed potatoes. What is the whole point of making all these recommendations and than just to end up with what we originally wanted? Any who, the steak that came with our meal was hard as a rock. I couldn't even cut through even if I had the sharpest knife in the kitchen. Overall, I will never ever spend 140 at this restaurant ever again. Overpriced for some phony wannabe boujee food. We went to celebrate my daughters engagment! While large, the atmosphere inside was cozy. Nicely set table with comfortable chairs. The Maitre De was a informative and polite. So why do we give places 5 stars? I like to believe its for a combination of great food, great service, value for money and how well maintained the establishment is. So i give 5 stars to Slacks for all over the above reasons. The location is great also, right off the casino floor but the casino noise and madness was unobtrusive, we had a reservation but it looked like you could possibly get a table if you walked up and were prepared to wait a smidge. The host was a delightful chap who chatted to us whilst our table was being prepared and then sat us and gave us a brief insight to the menu. The restaurant itself i like a lot, there's plenty of room between tables and the chairs were incredibly comfy, the glasses, utensils and table were all spotlessly cleaned. Our server was Mary who was pleasant and was personable and took our drinks and app order not long after we sat down, as she disappeared the host ran over with a basket of warm rolls, i like the team work. We had the wedge salad that was excellent, nice and crisp and lots of blue cheese crumbles. For mains we went with seafood with me going off the menu a little with the halibut but served with what usually comes with the salmon, the lemon caper risotto, a very good call as both were cooked perfectly and were delicious. #2 went with the baked cod with fingerling potato and spinach, i tried some and was very impressed with both the quality and quantity of the dish, so both very good choices. The steaks looked good and we saw the cornish game hen being served which also looked very cook. Had no room for dessert and the check came expeditiously after we were finished, prices were incredibly reasonable, couple of glasses of wine, app and dinner all for under a $100 so all in all a very enjoyable evening. read more

Our initial place we wanted to go was Flutie's but it was closed; so we thought we would try Slack's Oyster House. We made a reservation; I am very sorry to say the food was not good. The chicken appetizer was dry like they microwaved them; the fish & chips had to much beer batter on the fish with minimal cod and the fries were very dry. I told the waitress I was allergic to carrots but my chicken appetizer came with carrots, I asked if they had celery instead...never got an answer. So it was my husband's birthday and we spent $107 for everything and they wanted us to buy the chocolate cake for him...no birthday song. Unfortunately we will never be going here again read more

Lousy experience. Drinks are ridiculously overpriced - $9 for a bottle of Sam Adams. $16 for a regular drink. Had some oysters - they had too many shell bits (poorly shucked) and nearly all of them had no liquid. Food was mediocre at best. Entrees were overpriced too. Unfortunately, this place is the only option for a sit down meal at Plainridge. It's best to spend less time in the casino and eat at a restaurant in the local area before or after you gamble. read more

Average at best. The cheese plate and brussel sprout side were quite good but other selections were OK. We were expecting more given the reviews. The oysters were small, all from the same location even though there are other places with better quality oysters. It was my husband's birthday and he had been looking forward to the halibut which was overcooked. My swordfish was nothing to write home about. The cheesecake was OK. The coffee was good however. Our waiter was very low energy. He didn't clear plates in a timely way. The appetizer plates were still on the table when he brought dessert. As an aside, a man I assume was a manager gushed and fawned all over couples at adjacent tables and ignored other diners. I'm assuming that they may have been high rollers at the casino. Our group of seven went to Slack's last night for dinner and while the food was good, the service was horrible. The restaurant was half full and we waited 30 minutes for our drinks. We asked to put in an order for the next round to try to stay ahead of the slow service and we were told that wouldn't be an issue next time - but of course, it was. One of our appetizers arrived well after our entrees. When we were done eating, our server told us to take our time leaving, but she left all of the dishes on the table. For the cost of the dinner, the service should have been significantly better. Big disappointment. read more
