I was diagnosed with keratoconus March 2013, after a routine check-up with an Optometrist at a local shopping store. Nothing was explained to me until January 2014 when my vision became distorted with corrective lenses. I went back to this Optometrist, only to find out the disease had progressed significantly. Without much knowledge of the potentially-blinding eye disease, I was devastated. The Optometrist did not provide much information, only explaining that the only treatment available is a corneal transplant. Until then, I can be fitted for R.G.P. contact lenses. Immediately after I got home, I began my research about keratoconus; available treatments, causes, and Ophthalmologist with experience in treating this disease. I came across Slade & Baker Vision Center's website while doing research about keratoconus. I read the information on the website about the CXL cross linking treatment. This caught my attention quickly, as I feared a corneal transplant. After comparing Slade & Baker to another institution in Texas, I decided to call Slade & Baker to schedule a consultation. From the very first interaction with the staff, I felt comfortable with my decision. The staff were very nice, helpful, and informative. Finally, came the day of my consultation, I had tons of questions for the doctor about my diagnosis. I was greeted as soon as I entered the door, I was a bit nervous but excited that I would finally have answers. I was taken to the back where they performed a series of test on three different machines, I was even given an eye exam. I was truly impressed, as this was only a consultation. After the tests, I was taken to a room where Dr. Baker and an assistant began the consultation and evaluating my eyes more. Dr. Baker along with the assistant answered all my questions, never gave me false hope, but gave me hope, nonetheless. Considering all the information I received during my consultation, I went home to discuss the disease with my family and explain the treatments available. I made my decision after much thought, I chose Slade & Baker to perform my CXL procedure. March 18, 2014, was the day of the procedure! I decided to have the treatment done on both eyes. A nervous wreck, I was thankful for the very nice and helpful front-desk assistant, Kate, who explained to me what was going to take place that day. Not long after sitting down in the waiting room, I taken to the O.R. where Sandra began to get me ready for my procedure. I felt very comfortable with Sandra, she explained everything that was being done during the procedure. The procedure took three hours, but it seemed shorter because Sandra was there the whole time. Not only do they explain to you what is going on, but they comfort you with conversation, it really makes the time go by fast. After the procedure, my eyes were examined once again. I was given medication for the eyes. They explained to me everything to expect post-op. I would highly recommend Slade & Baker to anyone diagnosed with keratoconus. I have worn glasses since the age of four and contacts since age seven and never in my 31 years did I believe there was a procedure that would change my life completely. I had a very high prescription -10 in each eye give or take a bit (honestly even though it has been less than a year I have already forgotten how bad it was) and I had an astigmatism in each eye as well. When LASIK became available I was hoping I'd be a candidate but after visiting several doctors my fate was sealed, I was not a candidate and I would suffer with contacts and glasses for the rest of my life. (Enter Dr. Slade and Dr. Baker) In April of 2011 I was suffering from constant dry / tired eyes in the evenings and was feeling completely miserable, randomly I googled something along the lines of 'newest eye procedures' and stumbled across Dr. Slade and Dr. Baker's website. I couldn't believe what I was reading ...successful IMPLANTABLE CONTACTS LENS(ICL)and Dr. Slade (who was in Houston where I was) was at the forefront of this procedure! I am still not sure what prompted me to make the initial appointment as I am scared to death of surgery but from day one I always had a good feeling and that feeling certainly only got stronger after visiting their office and meeting Dr. Baker and his wonderful staff. It still amazes me that such a nice group of people all found themselves working under one roof, it was a huge factor in my decision making process as they always made me feel completely comfortable with each appointment. At my first appointment I had tests done on the most state of the art equipment you have ever seen and was told I was in fact a candidate for ICL surgery and due to my astigmatism would need to have 'touch up' LASIK to correct the remaining issues. The ICL's solved my nearsightness but couldn't correct the astigmatism. This all seemed very daunting at first, two separate surgeries for the implants and then three months later 'touch up' LASIK. After thinking about it for a few days and reading everything I could about Dr. Slade and the procedures I knew I was at the absolute best place for the surgery and decided to go forward. I had my right eye ICL on May 4th and it could not have been any easier, sure before the valium kicked in I was a bit nervous but once Dr. Slade was at my side and wheeled me back I knew I was in good hands, honestly, at that point I wasn't afraid anymore! I had my left eye done two weeks later and three months after in September I had my 'touch up' LASIK . It is now December and I have almost completely forgotten what it was like to have worn glasses and contacts. I often tell my husband that I feel like I am forgetting to do something at night and he always reminds me that I think I should be taking my contacts out but hooray, I don't have them anymore. My vision is 20/20 and I have no issues with halos or glares (read about these from other websites) and accredit this all to Dr. Slade and his steady hand. I am a new resident of Houston and a new patient of Dr. Walton's. He performed cataract surgery, and the day following the procedure my examination revealed I have 20/20 vision! I had previously undergone the same surgery in one eye in another city, and because of the negative outcome I had postponed the other eye procedure far too long. Consequently, I spent the past twenty months struggling with poor eyesight and impairment of joys of daily living. Even though I had been told the anticipated outcome, I was simply not prepared for the amazing difference in my eyesight. A new world, literally, has been opened. I now have clarity of vision, but more importantly, I see colors more vibrantly than I have in years! From first clinic visit to post surgical examination, I was treated with dignity and respect. Every step was thoroughly explained, and I was allowed ample opportunity to ask as many questions as I needed. I would like to recognize individuals specifically. The anesthesiologist spent extra time with me working through my concerns with narcotics because of drug allergy. She listened, adjusted the dosages planned and even added an anti-nausea medication as insurance. The male CRNA was very kind and attentive. The nurse who started the IV was kind and attentive, and even though I am a "difficult, stick," she placed the IV efficiently and painlessly. Dr. Walton, whom I had not met prior to day of surgery, introduced himself and spent ample time with me prior to the procedure explaining step by step everything that was to happen, and he, too, provided time for thoroughly answering every question I asked. His reassurance took his valuable time, but he still gave that time without indicating he had a schedule to keep....which he did. The day following surgery when I saw him, he was respectful, kind and attentive, and announced that my vision is now 20/20. My surgery was on the 21st and I couldn't be happier! Wearing glasses/contacts for about 17 years, it feels great to finally be free of them. I have been extremely near-sighted all of my life; my measurements were approximately -18 in my left eye and -19 in my right eye. As I got older I developed cataracts and needed corrective surgery. After surgery on my left eye in my home state, I experienced extremely poor results. I saw multiple images and had very poor vision. At this point I was desperate for help and contacted my sister-in law, a pharmaceutical salesperson and she directed me to Slade and Baker Vision Center. This is where I met Dr. Bennett Walton. Just finished (12/6/16) receiving my second intraocular lens for replacement of my right eye cataract. I am so excited about the new vision I have - its priceless. Its bright with perfect vision both distant and close (premium Trulign Toric Lens). Never had this vision with glasses, contacts or lasik (30 yrs ago). The next day check-up by Dr. Baker resulted is a happy dance by Dr. Baker with my excellent results. He said "that's what we are here for" - wow excellent vision. He said I had the vision of a 30 year old fighter pilot. Last time I could see this good was when I was 10yrs old, now 72 yrs. I agree with all the other patients who gave 5 stars! Honestly, I was not sure what lens to choose before my cataract surgery, the Symfony (multifocal) or the single vision lens. But the thought of having one of the best surgeons in the U.S., Dr. Slade, to do my cataract surgery, plus taking advantage of the newer technology - multifocal lens let me go ahead to have both eyes done in two consecutive weeks. After the first eye, my confidence was up 100%. I have seen my friend's eye bruised up down to the cheek, and red inside, after his cataract surgery with another doctor. But I looked as if nothing was done to the surgical eyes, no pain, no swelling! I thank Dr. Slade's perfect surgeries, as I was saying to him for the first eye "doctor, you are going to change my life!", and the second eye "you would be finishing up the good work!" My vision is very clear now, even with my new surgical eye still dilated, I can see and type perfectly in front of the computer! No more glasses, yay!! I had cataract surgery some six months ago. It was spectacularly successful, as expected for Laser Cataract surgery. I cannot overstate my happiness with the professional demeanor of all the people with which I dealt before, during and after the surgery. Dr. Walton performed the surgery, and it was, as claimed both painless and effective. His bedside manor is beyond reproach. He even called me the evening of the surgery to check on how I was feeling, and if I was comfortable (not having any pain). Again, all of the staff were professional and courteous from the first visit to the last. (only last because I will go back to Dr Oevermann, the doctor I have been seeing for years, and will continue to see for my retinal health, as I am Diabetic. I consider myself very fortunate to have selected Dr. Baker and Dr. Slade back in 2000 for initial LASIK surgery, which provided me with clear vision, without fail, for many years. I went back to Slade and Baker in April 2016 for a touchup on right eye, and once again, I am extremely pleased with the results and could not be happier. No glasses needed for distance, and do not have to use reading glasses either...that was due to Dr. Baker's recommendation to only touch up right eye, and his recommendation was perfect. Dr. Slade's surgical skill, of course, should not be overlooked either, no complications from touch up, and right eye is providing crystal clear vision and no discomfort about a month afterwards. In addition, the staff is professional, courteous, and efficient, which definitely makes the visits to the office easy! I will be back for follow up visits as the years go by. read more

I had my LASIK with Dr. Slade 2 years ago. I came into the office for my 2 year check up and my vision is still 20/15. I never thought of writing a review until now, mainly because I didn't find the time but also because I had a weird doubt that maybe my vision wouldn't stay so amazingly clear as it was after the procedure. Well, it is and I am so incredibly grateful. Every time I go on a trip and do not have to worry about packing my contacts, case and solution I think of Dr. Slade! I had lasik with Dr. Slade 1 year and 2 months ago. I realized when i woke up from my 4 hour nap after the surgery I could see things i don't remember seeing before my lasik surgery.
