I had the pleasure of noshing on some first rate wings from Slater's at this year's Reno Harley Davidson Street Vibrations event. Amazing wings and fries- the wings are medium sized, well cooked, and they have a huge variety of possible sauces. I usually go for a dry rub, and sure enough- they had one... they list it as medium heat- I'd say that's a bit generous, but the rub is huge on flavor without being too salty. The fries are not typical shoestring or steak fries, but a thin curly potato wedge. You can choose from several different seasonings- the lemon parmesan was my go-to- and the fries are top notch: crispy on the outside and soft and creamy on the inside. The service was super quick- the owner indicated they par-boil the wings ahead of time to get them most of the way there, so a quick dip in the oil, and they're hot, crispy, and ready to go. Wing prices hover between about $1.50 to $2 per wing, depending on your order size, which is pretty typical for a wing joint in the Reno area. The first time we had slater's ding a wing was during the last day of food truck Friday in 2019 and I remembered it was really good! Slaters was one of the food trucks selling food during the Legends Brew festival and we didn't hesitate to order from them! We ended up ordering 12 wings with a choice of 2 sauces or rubs. We ordered 6 Buffalo and 6 dry rub. We also ordered tots with Parmesan ranch seasoning. We received our order and the chicken was piping hot fresh! Both were really yummy, but my favorite is their Buffalo Sauce. The chicken was cooked perfectly and the chicken wings were meaty! Their tots were really tasty, nice crunch as well! For the past five years I've been sleeping under a rock when it comes to the best wings in Reno. Id heard mention of the fabled fabulous ding-a-wings, but Id never found myself in the right place or at the right time to enjoy them. After weeks of running into Slater himself at various local businesses, the universe finally arranged for me to meet these storied wings, and I'm so glad I did. Slater's was out at the Pleasant Valley Elementary Stampede this past weekend, and when I spotted them setting up, I made a point to get back in time to try them out. For me, when it comes to wings there's no question I'm going bone in, and no matter what, I'm asking for em a little extra crispy too. I like the skin to have a little crunch, locking in the juicy meat, and holding onto, but not absorbing the sauce. This creates a wing that is flavored by the sauce without compromising that perfectly fried food experience, and that's exactly what Slater's delivers. The sauce selection is daunting, and after trying four, I'm going to say they're all probably home runs. It's clear Slater has spent his time developing each of these recipes. Reading the descriptions will make your mouth water and each one exceeds the promises laid out on the menu, bite after bite. I tried the habanero Buffalo (because Buffalo alone never packs enough punch), Margarita (green cholula and a whole lot more), lemon pepper parm (handmade dry blend. Not that artificial crap other places serve.) and the maple bacon (literally French toast with bacon bits, and it works!). Slater is generous with the saucing, coating each wing and leaving you a little extra for dipping pleasure. After trying each alone, I started messing around blending some of them together. I loved the lemon pepper parm with the habanero Buffalo. The maple bacon and the habanero Buffalo went well together too. Thinking back on the menu, there are several I still need to try, and I bet there are some killer combos to be created, and I'm saving that experiment for the next time. To cap it all off, you can also order tots or sidewinder fries (both fried to perfection) and get them dusted in any of the dry seasonings they offer as wing options. I'm a sucker for a great dry rub wing, but after I ordered the fries with the dry rub, I was told to pick another sauce because id be able to experience the rub on them. Boy was he right and damn was that rub good! Spicy, peppery, slight sweetness, and oh so craveable. Package that up my man! You've got a hit! Slaters is a home run all around. read more

We saw that Slater's has been at the 395 Craft Beer and Spirits the past few Friday's and we wanted to check them out. This past Friday, we had the opportunity and arrived at 395 about 5:30pm. The place was packed both inside as well as their small patio in front. As we walked in, we saw food being delivered to many other tables. The truck was parked in the parking lot at the rear of the building and had menus along with a few tables and chairs. We looked over the menu and decided to order the Loaded Slater Tots and 6 wings with the dry rub seasoning. We were asked to wait outside for our food and told it would just be a few minutes. We found a vacant small stand-up table outside the 395 in the back but just in front Slater's. While we were waiting, a good friend of mine brought us each a drink. Our order did in fact arrive quickly and looked delicious! The wings were crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside -- very, very good!  The Slater's tots were just okay - I was expecting a lot more potato and less chicken but I can see others probably really enjoying them. We then ordered some Slater's Fries with Parmesan ranch seasoning. These were definitely a different shape for fries. These too were really yummy! We will definitely be back to either enjoy both Slater's and 395 or just to grab Slater's to take home! read more

honestly i've really tried to like this place. i've had it 3 separate times and each time i've hated it. as a buffalo native their buffalo sauce and flavoring is not very good and i'd rather have some at home grilled wings with franks than this. their garlic buffalo parm reeled me back in after a disappointing initial experience with a dry rub. that also pretty much sucked, the wings weren't anything the write home about and didn't have any special crunch or flavor. id honestly much rather have an air fried wing then this. the garlic buffalo had large slices of parm all over is and barely any garlic flavor. honestly the buffalo here is just ma embarrassment, it has this weird sweet flavor to it and doesn't have a lick of spice to offer. i've also had their tots twice and both times they lacked have any real flavor and appeal. it's extremely disappointing since i've heard so much. the service though is always super good, the people are nice and wings come out fast. it seems like a real local fan favorite but i just can't send to enjoy it read more

I thought I had tried all of the best chicken wings in Reno, until one fateful day when Slater's was miraculously parked outside of Pinon Bottle Co in Sparks. That was the day that changed my life forever. Slater himself was right there in the truck to greet me and welcome me to an incredible selection of different wing flavors on their menu. I ordered the honey BBQ, jalapeno margarita, and habanero buffalo wings. They were off the charts delicious, and the wings were some of the meatiest wings I have ever had! The meat fell right off the bone, and the sauces were perfect. The sauces were tangy, spicy, robust, flavorful, and there was enough of it to coat the wings 3 or 4 times over. I know Slater's goes to Food Truck Friday and Feed the Camel often, but I hope they will come to Pinon in Sparks again soon! read more

This is the best wings in Reno hands down! It's unfortunate that they don't have a spot yet but it's such an amazing treat when you are able to find them out! They are usually at The 395 in north valley on Fridays. We got a 24 wings and 2 orders of fries. We did the buffalo, maple bacon bourbon, lemon pepper garlic Parmesan and the dry rub. For the fries, we got the dry rub and ranch parm fries. Everything was fantastic!!! I would highly recommend Slaters if you can get them while they are out! Food Lunch - This is my second time visiting the "truck". First time was another beer event where I had the standard buffalo sauce on my wings. Today I ordered six wings again but took the heat up a notch. The buffalo style wings with his new sauce habanero buffalo. I have to say they did not bring the heat. They were on the same level as the standard sauce. The wings themselves are solid and consistent size, no wimpy tiny wings here. Service - Jay is always great to deal with. I asked for my wife about if his food was gluten free. The wings and most sauces are but they are cooked in the same small fryers as chicken tenders which are not. Technically he is gluten free but there is a possibility of cross contamination, but Jay made that clear. I would think it be easy to keep the tenders in one set of fryers to eliminate this issue. We had the pleasure of trying Slater's during an UYE at Lead Dog Brewing. We decided to try the dry rub and the buffalo along with a side of fries. The wait time for our order was roughly 15-20 minutes, which is fine. I mean we do not want undercooked chicken! The chicken was cooked perfectly, nice and crispy on the outside and hot and juicy on the inside. The dry rub was our favorite, the flavor was outstanding! The buffalo didn't stand out either way, they tasted like any other buffalo wings. The fries were interestingly shaped like twisted steak fries. These were a bit over cooked, which required the ranch dressing to moisten things up so we could eat. I would like to try other options on the menu, which were not available to us. read more

I have tried multiple flavors of the wings and they have all been delicious. There are usually a bunch of flavors and then options for fry seasonings and sometimes they have specials (the shrimp and fries are sooo good). Walking out the door for lunch and a new food truck was idling outside in the parking lot. Break a diet to try something new? Absolutely! The menu is simple and is wing and fry oriented. It features 5-6 sauces for the wings ranging in spiciness. There were a few different flavors of fries as well. Given I was dressed for work, wings tend to be a messy proposition. However in the handwritten special section they advertised three chicken tenders for $8. It also listed Mac & Cheese fries. If you're going to try a new place and break a diet at the same time, you might as well go big. The tenders were reasonably sizes for the price but were absolutely average in taste and texture. I went with the Honey Buffalo sauce. It was ok but it just didn't grab me. The fries were a different story. The fries were perfectly cooked except there was no Mac & Cheese to be found. Instead what appeared to be the cheese sauce POWDER from a Kraft box was sprinkled on them. This was a huge letdown for a $5 fry tray. They were ok but I'll never waste my money on their fries again. The good...The menu was straightforward. The staff was friendly. The food was cooked fast. Then again I think the tenders were precooked. The bad...If you advertise Mac & Cheese fries at $5, it better have macaroni and cheese. These were cheese flavored seasoned fries which makes me skeptical of their other fry offerings. Since the food was not horrible and the prices for their entrees are reasonable, this makes it fall into an average category. What a pleasant surprise to find out that Slater's Ding-a-Wing was one of the vendors at Night In The Country 2019. As expected they brought their "A"game. We had a pound of the buffalo wings with a side of the Buffalo Habanero sauce, they were awesome. Their french fries as they call them are more like a extremely large curly fry, very good. The only shortcoming was that they were so busy they ran out of ranch dressing but it was also the last night that we got to them. I found Slater's at a recent Feed the Camel event. While I chose a different truck for dinner that night, I grabbed six spicy dry rubbed wings to-go for my lunch the next day ($8.50). After heating them up in the microwave a day later, my first thought was "best wings ever". I may not be a wing expert, but I've had my fair share and the spicy dry rub is perfection in my opinion. Six wings were actually a combo of wings and drummies with two small celery sticks and a side of ranch. If you see this truck, be sure to get the wings, even if you eat them the next day. read more

Went on my delivery route, and saw this food truck parked at a business place. I decided to try it, but then told they were setting up and it's going to be at least another 30min, so I said okay I'll go do my delivery and I'll be back. Once done with my delivery, I decided to head back and try it. Coming up to the business where they were parked at, but they were gone!. First of all I don't like to be lied to and I guess they didn't want my business. The price we're to high for a food truck that serve chicken wings.
