I've been a regular customer here and often bought their house-made meat crepes. This time I bought 10, and when I got home, they smelled like spoiled meat. I called the store and was told to return them. When I came back, instead of addressing the issue, the employee tried to place the blame on me for not bringing the receipt, shifting the focus away from the fact that spoiled food had been sold. I then received a silent cash refund placed on the counter -- no apology, no explanation, and no acknowledgment of the problem. Selling food that smells spoiled is unacceptable. Slavic Shop sells a variety of European imported items. They sell grocery items like baked goods, candy, meats, cheese, snacks, seasonings, pickled goods, cooking oil, and beverages. There's a small parking lot right outside and plenty of street parking nearby. The line to pay moves slowly, but nobody complains about it. read more

My go to are the blitzes, both the meat and the cheese are so delicious! I heat one of each up and...heaven! The meat is flavored to perfection, not salty, just tasty! The cheese is only cheese and I love this. It's popular too add golden raisins, but since I don't care for those, I always appreciate the plain ones, just like when I was a girl. I also purchase some of their frozen goods, sauce mixes, and jams. They have a lot of fun candy too, but I haven't gone that route yet. I love the chicken cutlet too, it was sooooo delicious and a big portion, so I froze some and it was still perfect when thawed and reheated. But the piroshki is why I gave one less star. It's a favorite treat of mine and I really disliked their beef piroshki. The meat was the same as what's in the blintz but the bread wasn't right to me, not sure what it was. Staff is always friendly and they place was clean. There's plenty of parking. read more

If you want Slavic items in the Bay Area, I think this is your only option. I feel like I should've been born Polish instead of Louisianan, so I like kvass, European sausage, and European sweets, among other Polish delights. The prices are relatively reasonable considering everything is imported. They also have a deli counter. Plus, I believe it's run by Ukranians, so you should support that, especially since - according to a sign on their door - part of the profits go to Ukraine aid. read more

Wasn't impressed with their service. Also the beet salad was spoiled and we came in the afternoon to return it. They were offering a store credit but after not such a great experience we asked for a full refund. Won't be coming back. read more

And today Tatyana was helping me with a nice smile, asking me politely if I eligible for their Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday Senior discount, showing me my favorite wine and offering some meats. I went in to buy some holiday items and some meats and cheeses. A woman came from the back yelling and not sure why but she took my cart. I said "why are you taking my cart?" She brought it back. She ended up checking me out but was very rude. Either way with the lack of courtesy of the $90 and some change spent there will never ever go back to Slavik. Kalinka remains my go to. read more

By far the worst European store in the Bay. Every time I go in there is a bleach and sausage smell that's absolutely disgusting and deters you from buying. In my last trip I went especially for some salt brined pickles, grabbed them as fast as possible and went to checkout. Pretty rude lady telling me to buy more if I want to pay by card, she said the limit is $10 and showed me some chocolates. Rude. I grabbed a darn chocolate paid for my stuff and left. Later in the evening I tried that chocolate and it was the most terrible thing I've tasted, it was so bad I spit it out immediately and straight into the garbage it went. Makes me wonder how old it was. Anyway I don't recommend this sport and needless to say I won't be coming back. read more

This is a really nice and small Slavic shop with lots of goods! The staff is very friendly and they are taking covid precautions very seriously: only 5 people allowed inside at a time, and they have someone at the entrance to give you hand sanitizer. Their shelves are stocked with jams, pickled veggies, bread, sweets, spices, alcohol, as well as fresh cheese, yogurt, cured meats and frozen perogies. A friend of mine who lives in Poland told me to get Prince Polo chocolate bars and boxes of Ptasie Mlecsko marshmallow filled chocolates. Mmmmmm he was right those are sooo good!!!! His favorite is the dark chocolate ( gold package)but the milk chocolate ( Blue package ) and the hazelnut milk chocolate ( green package) are equally delicious:)) I am excited to try out the chicken perogies too. I was yelled at by their staff twice today during my visit. First by not moving fast enough from their way (i was trying to get something from the refrigerator section and the lady was physically pushing me away so she can unload more food) second, for placing my items on the counter (obviously there are strict rules about how and who is allowed to do it, but I was not aware of them). Definitely deserved to be scolded like a child. At least they didn't spank me. I give them an extra star for keeping up with soviet era traditions. Tried to call the store to discuss it, but nobody picks up and no voicemail option, nice try. Anyway, go if you're homesick and need a booster of rudeness. I was hesitant about what the selection would be like but it is quite nice inside. Lots of varieties of things, pastries, candies, plenty of canned goods, sausages, and other Polish/Ukrainian/Russian things. Especially a unique alcohol selection. I've been there twice and both times I have had a good customer service experience. They don't mind helping translating things or answering any questions for people that may not be as knowledgeable. And yes, there is a $10 card limit, so bring cash or purchase lots of yummy things! read more

It's a quaint little market in my backyard that I always just overlooked, but I wanted to try something new, I was a bit nervous ordering there as I felt pretty out of place nor did I know if I was pronouncing the items right. I ended up getting the meat blintz, cheese blintz, and mushroom piroshki. I ordered them a few hours away from closing time so they were cold, brought them home reheated it and boy was I delighted. The dough was nice and fluffy with just a right amount of savory notes in the minced meat. Definitely will come back again to try some of their other items! read more

I don't know why I haven't gone to this store before. Everybody is EXTREMELY nice here. This was my first time ever going to a European grocery store, therefore, it was a bit intimidating walking in. There are definitely safety measures to be prepared to walk outside in a line while you wait your turn. There is limit capacity since the grocery store is a bit small but lines move very quickly. Also, you will directed by staff to come in once another customer leaves. However, the only reason why I came here to purchase their Russian imported Caviar. There are a lot of different selections you can purchase here. I would definitely recommend coming here! read more

Accidental finds are great. Adam and I had been talking about going to SF to a store on Geary that carries his favorite food. Pierogi. A couple of days ago while on the way out from the farmers market Old McDonalds I saw this big sign across the street. It simply read Slavic Shop European Market. We decided to go for it and checked out this place. It is loaded with all flavors of pierogi. From Chicago. It's the city with the biggest Polish population. So yeah this will do! They also carry sausages that I personally crave for. Candies from Poland and Russia were in abundance. Anything European such as some beauty products are there too. Wanna imbibe? Yup they have a whole cold refrigerator of that on the right as you walk in. Best damn bread and cheese! No fresh fruit or vegetables. This is not the place for that. This is a place for memories from the old motherland. All packaged and ready for you to take home to start reliving the good 'ol days... At check out we were given a box of chocolates as a gift. What for? We didn't ask but just gracefully thanked the lady at the counter. She was authentic. As in from Europe. So if you shop here you will hear a smattering of Polish or Russian or a full blown conversation. It's awesome! read more

Stopped in here today with my BF's dad, as this is his go-to Russian store- the store carries a great variety of eastern european products and foods, and has good prices and selection for the things they miss from home. Grabbed a good selection of eggplant spread, farmers cheese, various pierogies, and sausages before we went up to the counter, where the real gems are- prepared foods! They have olivye by the pound, along with herring dishes, stuffed pastries and a few other salad-type dishes. Tried the mushroom stuffed pizrogi and it was fabulous- almost didn't let the BF get a bite! Also had varieties with cabbage and some sort of meat, but mushroom is usually my favorite so I'll stick to that. On future visits I'll have to try their blintzes and desserts- for this visit we just stuck to the basics. Service was friendly and the lady at the register seemed to speak a variety of languages; store itself was clean, organized, and well-lit. Parking was available right in front of the store, even though it's on the end of a rather busy-looking strip mall. read more

Very lovely staff working here. I was looking for a specific vodka and they didn't have it so I was trying to decide which one (and really struggling). The owner (maybe?) had come and helped me. He knew a lot about the brand I normally bought and explained why they didn't like to carry it, and then made a good recommendation. He was super nice. The cashiers as well. They were very friendly and helpful and just sweet. They have a ton of Russian stuff, which is mainly what I was looking for (pelmeni, they have several different frozen kinds). But I would say the shop carries about 20-30% Polish, and the rest Ukrainian, Russian and a tiny amount of other CIS. So it was exactly what I was looking for. There's also a small deli counter.
