Came here after hitting the beach and so glad I found it! Chill vibe and awesome staff... they gave us a good discount after there was a SNAFU with the yelp check in offer. When I go to a new coffee place I like to try something along the lines of a flat white if it's on the menu. No flat white, but they had a cortado and it was super strong and well balanced. Not too acidic, not too bitter, and obviously no need for sugar. My wife got the special latte; the Coffee blossom honey latte is subtle but delicious; you can tell it's made with real honey Best part about this place is that it shares a space with a wine joint so there's something for you no matter what time of day you're there! Tall blonde this morning did not know what she was doing. We asked for an iced coffee and she responded by asking "did you mean a latte? Americano?" No...a coffee lol. We then ordered two iced mochas and she made both of them hot. We finally got the two iced mochas and they tasted terrible. They were very chalky as if they were using powdered chocolate that did not dissolve all the way. They didn't even taste the same even though they were the same drink. Cute little coffee shop next to a Starbucks and on a shared space as a winery. I tried the vanilla bean latte with oat milk. I appreciate that they only charge 25 cents for non dairy options since many places charge up to $1 for a non dairy option. I was pleasantly impressed by the taste and you can tell they use real vanilla bean in the recipe. We were in a rush but I definitely want to come back and enjoy a glass of wine next time. read more

We quite literally stumbled upon this place by accident en route to Starbucks, because they are physically right next to each other. Friends, do yourselves a favor and come here instead! The coffee is sooo good. Super fresh, strong, and local. There aren't as many menu options as Starbucks, but you can of course customize your drink, and everything they do offer here, they make extremely well. They even offer oat milk! Sleeping Tiger shares a space with Witch Creek Winery, and is fabulous in every aspect. The physical space is absolutely adorable. There's an outdoor "Garden Gift Shop" that is incredibly well curated. There are all sorts of trinkets, furniture, and succulents available to purchase, and everything is arranged in such an inventive way. There's a good sized patio, but most of the seats aren't covered. There is, however, a covered outdoor private area for large groups or events. I can't believe people go to Starbucks next door with this place so close. They have a variety of organic and fair trade coffee, housemate syrups, chemex, nitro cold brew and much more. It's even about the same price as Starbucks so there is little reason to go to a generic chain with burnt over roasted beans. I love the back patio with the chandelier outside! It's quirky, comfy and totally belongs in Carlsbad Village. It's also less than two blocks from the beach so you absolutely cannot go wrong getting a coffee or tea as you wander aimlessly (or with purpose) in this charming downtown. You do have to wait a bit longer for your drink, coffee is slow poured over the grounds but the wait is absolutely worth it. Pretty impressive having a hole in the wall coffee place literally steps from another Starbucks. I'm guessing Tiger was here first and Starbucks is just trying to muscle in. Gorgeous gorgeous gorgeous! I wish I could upload a video because I posted this coffee house in all my social media platforms. Friends joked about me getting an advertisement contract. First of all their coffee is delicious. I've been here several times and had their lattes twice and coffee once. They pull 2 or 4 shots- no extra cost! Their espresso is so delicate in taste! Both 2 and 4 shot lattes are pretty tasty. I am an avid coffee drinker so I usually take 4 shots. Their regular coffee is pretty good too! No creamer needed. Second, the AMBIANCE IS EXQUISITE. You have a rustic interior and an elegant exterior. The patio is so cute! There is plenty of places to sit inside and outside. The inside is adjacent to a winery which apparently has been here for 27 years. The coffee shop has been here for about 5. Finally they also have open mic on Thursdays and live music on the weekend! I'm definitely checking this out. Unfortunately I don't leave in this area again, but I will always stop by when I'm in town visiting my parents. I came to Carlsbad for a buddies bachelor party and found myself needing some life for the drive home on Sunday Morning. Sleeping Tiger came up on my Yelp app, and boom, I was home. This location is unique, along with roasting coffee on the premises, they also have a wine bar where they host various wine and coffee tasting events. Fallon, one of the workers or co-owners? Hooked me up with a Nitro Cold Brew and a bacon cheese croissant, the Crosiamt was crazy good and comes from a local bakery. Each layer of bread had hints if butter and flaked with each bite, along with the cheese and bacon this was just what the doctor ordered. I paired this tasty breakfast sandwich with a nitro cold brew coffee; that was very fresh. No bitterness, very smooth and needed no almond milk to lighten this coffee up. After leaving, I was looking on their Instagram and was bummed to find out that there's a great Tiger mural somewhere on the building that I totally missed! Great location in Carlsbad with an even better mural of tigers, an umbrella and dripping paint captured my attention to try this place. Modern Times is successful with coffee and beer, so why wouldn't coffee and wine work? They're making their own house crafted syrups that vary from vanilla bean, hazelnut, mocha and more. I was disappointed by the service. I think it was Saturday, March 13th. The two women at the front desk saw me waiting a long time for my pour-over, and didn't call me over. I came over twice to check. By the third time, the young woman acknowledged she had forgotten about my coffee. The older lady just seemed annoyed. It just didn't feel right. I wanted to support a local business, not a chain. I am so glad I did! I'm a purist and so I was looking for a good cup of coffee, robust and flavorful. I usually order an Americano with little water, or rarely a latte, Nothing besides milk or cream added to my coffee. I want to taste the coffee! (BTW I was pleasantly surprised to see they use organic milk!!). One thing I have discovered when going to a new place is to always ask how many shots are in a particular size of drink. Do you realize that some places put the same number of shots in an Americano, whether it is a small or medium!? Wow, we get to pay more money for more water and a bigger cup. But not at this cute place! I ordered a small latte and because I expressed concern over whether or not the milk would dilute the flavor of the coffee, the Barista generously offered to add more shots for no charge! Now please, don't show this review and expect free extra shots! She was kind but I would not expect this to be repeated. I don't want to get anyone in trouble with the boss. What it does show is her kind consideration to ensure my first coffee experience with them was great. How was the coffee? Excellent! Robust and flavorful, as I hoped. Went in on this Saturday morning, maybe 3 other customers of which were already sitting. My girlfriend and I ordered 2 vanilla iced lattes, tasted horrible, asked for more vanilla and what seemed to be unhappily, gave us more vanilla. But then we saw the large portion of coffee grinds sitting at the bottom of each drink and ended up just throwing them away and going to Starbucks around the corner. I'm assuming from different reviews and of course being early in the morning these are two different barista's than usual. read more

Just happened to be walking by this morning and stopped in for the first time. This place is really cool and a chill spot to drink coffee or wine and maybe grab some antique stuff. I was able to snag some nice coffee cups and saucers as a gift for a family member. Really happy i stopped by here today. They have a nice patio to the side if you want to sit outside and have great music playing too. Bags of coffee ready to go or even grounded for you if needed. The space is located in the Witch Creek Winery tasting room, which also offers a well priced selection of antiques as well. It's a fun, eclectic space, with a bit of something for everyone. Love coming here, the atmosphere is so relaxing and I love the small outdoor patio filled with little Knick knacks. I enjoy my morning walks here with my boyfriend for a coffee and an iced chai. Probably my favorite place to get an iced chai in Carlsbad. The pricing is definitely on point. My parents both ordered an americano with hot milk - my dad wanted whole milk while my mum wanted half fat. The barrister offered to make a custom milk for my mum's coffee to make it just right. All the beans are freshly ground to order and they also roast beans there. There's a lovely outdoor seating area in a courtyard which is semi shaded from the sun. The plus side of coming here doing the day is that there is a chill atmosphere in here to work, study, or converse. But the big negative is that their espresso based drinks are sub-par. The latte and cappuccino drinks need more "umph" and more of a smooth taste. Every time I come here, I am disappointed by the coffee quality. Unfortunately the nearest independent coffee places lack the same qualities and I do not go to the nearby Starbucks . . . So Tiger coffee is sometimes the last resort. How I didn't know about this place until a couple of weeks ago is beyond me. I live in South Oceanside where we have plenty of independent coffee houses, but I wanted to try something different so my husband found Sleeping Tiger Coffees on Yelp. I knew Witch Creek Winery was there, but STC is the lovely hidden gem inside! Paired with the now-infamous rainbow tigers mural on the north side of the building, the decor and theme inside is tasteful and inviting as it shares the same space as Witch Creek Winery. Whilst the winery is not in operation during morning hours, the wine barrels, twinkly lights and natural palette serve as a relaxing ambiance for a morning coffee. There is seating on an outside patio where you can enjoy the sunshine and watch passerby's on the street. The staff is always friendly and helpful - make sure you get a stamp card for a free coffee after so many purchases. It adds up quickly! They offer standard coffee drinks, all handcrafted with care. There are dairy and non-dairy options (almond, soy and coconut). Their espresso is not bitter or offensive, but rather smooth and full-bodied. I am rather partial to soy lattes, and since ordering one on my first visit I haven't tried anything else since, but my husband has tried a few different things - their cold brew and a latte, both of which were very good. At first glance of there being a small coffee shop at this location I feared a little for its survival directly next to a high-volume Starbucks in the Village, but after my first drink at STC I was sold and can't imagine why anyone would ever go next door. Sleeping Tiger Coffees is definitely a must-visit for coffee when in Carlsbad! read more
