This place is peak local coffee shop vibez. They make it so welcoming you could pretty much come in the morning for coffee and croissant and stay all day till evening when they have live jazz on the rooftop in the weekends and wine bar. They make all their food in house including handmade croissants and special every night. The burgers are made with Brandt beef and I've heard are amazing! read more

I needed a caffeine boost so I decided to go to Baba Coffee. It was my first time there...sure glad I came across this cute spot. Anything that says "Good Vibes", I'm down. Baba is mostly outdoors and the inside is nicely decorated with fresh flowers scattered around. I ordered the Praline Goddess Latte and not too long afterwards it was ready...timely service I must say. I was hoping for my latte to be on the sweet side by requesting a triple pump but it was not what I thought. I found out their coffee beans are sourced from local small farmers and roasted weekly - How awesome is that! This cutesy love nest left an impression on me. NIce new discovery when I was in Carlsbad recently for the farmers market. I like the variety of spaces in one place, a nice seating area outside, the usual inside and the top area (no laptops allowed, more a chill and/or performance space) and another terrace with views and all very pretty and calm vibe. I went to the above floor to not see laptops so I could draw and drink and there was a woman conducting her business on her laptop and calls. Even though it was specified no laptops. I didn't like that part but since was only she and I it was ok. I would have not stayed or complained if it was a full camping area of laptopers. I am glad that they use that space for mini concerts and gatherings. I really like this coffee shop and the art in the walls and the funny nido d'amore name for the second floor (love nest in Italian). I was very happy with my coffee and my time there. read more

Went for a quick coffee pick-me up after grabbing some pastries nearby on a Saturday afternoon. So parking can be scarce. The coffee shop was quiet: indie/acoustic music in the background that matched the mellow, chill vibe; no loud baristas or equipment. Ahh Baba! When I lived in Carlsbad, I walked by this place a million times and thought is was a boba tea spot because the font of the sign. In reality, it's this cute little coffee bistro/wine cafe. The owner is always there hanging out, guy is a legend and is so passionate about coffee, wine and his food. All the ingredients they use are gold. Went here for breakfast and tried the avocado toast with egg. It was okay; nothing special, but decent for a basic take on avocado toast. You can choose between scrambled or poached eggs, which is a nice option. The bread was good. I ordered a side of heirloom tomatoes which was tasty. I like how they seasoned it. I would have enjoyed the avocado toast itself if it had some balsamic glaze and the avocado a bit mashed with some zesty flavor and acidity, but I appreciated how fresh tasting everything was. My husband ordered the Granola Bowl and really enjoyed it; he literally devoured every bite. I'd like to come back and try their vegan, vegetarian, and meat empanadas. For drinks, my husband had a black coffee, and I went with the Iced Lemon Ginger Honey. Both were great. The service was excellent, and the ambiance was warm and inviting. I ordered a blended Vanilla Coffee and my friend ordered an iced black coffee, both were great in their own respective flavors. We headed upstairs and it was clean and refreshing with a great view. Love, love, love this place the Mimosa are delicious, they actually squeeze fresh OJ for it. Makes it even better . My go to was avocado toast with a poached egg and bacon . I've been to Baba Coffee a few times and have always found it to be a relaxing place for a coffee. The coffee is very good. The staff is very friendly. The ambiance is very chilled --- which is exactly what I'm looking for in a cafe. It's very centrally located in Carlsbad so it's a nice jumping off point and stopping to chill point. Chill place for morning coffee. Arrived at 10:00AM on a Saturday and the place only had a couple of guests. By 11:00AM the place was at capacity. There is indoor seating as well as some outdoor seating to the side, so it is mostly shaded. Also, an outdoor bar in the front that overlooks the sidewalk. Finally and upstairs indoor/outdoor lounge. A very nice touch is the blankets draped over the chairs for chilly mornings and to provide padding. Dog friendly! The decaf latte I had was quite good. Didn't have any food so cannot comment. The turkey avocado sandwich is simple but don't knock it, it is quite exceptional. We went back a second time for it. The matcha was quite nice. We tried a traditional macchiato on ice & really enjoyed every sip. The music selection was great, nice open cozy concept. The staff were all friendly. Baba coffee is a funny name because Baba is what I call my dad. I was excited to take him here because of the name. The interior is well ventilated, and there's a good amount to seating (but not a proportionate amount of outlets so charge your laptop in advance just in case), there's also an upstairs room but I was lowkey too shy to show up. The drink itself was something with coconut, macadamia nut milk, and praline ? I think I asked the lady what she thought was good and she chose this. The service was okay like they were nice but it was really giving LA coffee shop (which I think after living in LA for a couple years is overrated and it's not hard to just be outwardly friendly and comforting) idk. The drink was good, but a wee bit overpriced for the quality. My dads coffee was also good, and I would say that their coffee is better than their lattes. I just don't get this place anymore. What used to be a favorite started disintegrating in my opinion a few years ago, so we stopped coming in. We were spending way too much $$$ to have mediocre coffee, decent breakfast food but at a high premium, served by young, attractive baristas with bad attitudes. Last weekend, having been a couple years since we'd visited my husband and I both had a pining for an old favorite menu item, the breakfast croissant with heirloom tomato added. We placed our order online and swung in to pickup. Again, the gal at the register was less than friendly but whatever, we took our food to go. Upon arrival at home we were so disappointed to discover the croissants we once loved, which were huge and flaky with a sprinkle of sugar sweetness, were replaced at some point with smaller spongy croissants that looked like the ones you buy at Costco. The eggs were overcooked and a bit gray in the middle. The whole experience for $11 a piece was a total miss. This latest visit reinforced the reason I haven't been back in a couple years and likely won't be again in the near future. Fortunately for Baba they still seem to be doing good business, so while I wish them success I do hope they invest in friendlier baristas and bring back the old croissants! read more

Local here- I have been consistently going to this cafe for over a year, fantastic service and food. I recommend the lavender matcha latte (Savanna and Alec always hook it up!) and the brie platter when at the love nest upstairs (newly opened, Grace always comes to check that we are satisfied with our food). I have studied for so many midterms and had meet-ups with classmates, and staff is so sweet. Great study vibes downstairs for studying, and when you finish your work, they have live music at the Love Nest which is an amazing vibe with some good vino (the Pinot Grigio is always good). Thank you Baba! Also, I was there today studying when @ desert gal A. walked over from Nick's across the street, where she claimed she was unable to eat a good meal because the music at Baba was too loud, then had a meltdown/ screamed at the staff at Baba. Total Karen, and it disappoints me that she would then write a negative review. I would not take her opinion into consideration about this place, as she was not a patron, and in fact brought terrible vibes. my sister and i came here on a whim and the service was awful. the girl taking our order looked pissed. people around us were upset that it was taking 30+ minutes for their food to come out. and we're talking like sandwiches and breakfast burritos... why would it ever take that long. and there was not a long line of customers either. we waited over 30 minutes for our food and drink. my açaí bowl and my sisters food was brought out to us, but not my sisters drink. i told the waitress we still are waiting on a coffee. the waitress rolled her eyes and told us to go to the counter to pick it up. so i walk inside and find my sisters watered down iced coffee sitting on the counter. if you offer table service why wouldn't you also bring out the drinks? especially if yk people are sitting outside and cannot hear you if you call their name? just rude. and our food was bland and just not good. for how expensive this place is, don't bother. there are so many places in the village with better service and better food. read more
